Lets not get caught looking ahead. We've got a game to win this weekend.....

We have an offensive line coach?

Steve Petersen was a terrible AD.

Mike O'Reilly is really driving this program into the ditch.

What is the key to making millions while being little better than average? Do these principles apply to other careers or just head football coaching?

A Callahan vs USC 2006 type game plan should be used.
That would require a coach to understand what a 1st down is and how to get one.

Curious what peoples thoughts are on how bad this game against Penn State is going to get? I honestly think Barkley will set an NCAA record for rushing yards....lets just hope it doesn't happen in the 1st half. If they want to score a C note they probably could.

Frost would really appreciate it Riley if you didn't burn Gebbia's redshirt.
Agreed. This shouldnt even be in the realm of possibility. Run wildcat if you have to. Penn State is going to do bad awful things to us either way.

How have you managed to remain a head coach for 30 years in a profession you have no business being in? Is the CIA involved? If so, to what depths do you have knowledge of aliens?

I don't know if it would make Moos "look bad" considering how bad the team has performed since Moos officially took over. I am sure there would be questions about what Moos said when he was hired, but Moos could word it as "I didn't want the program to decline any further, and I didn't want to see the players be left in an unknown situation". But, at this point, I don't see the harm in keeping Riley around for another 12 days, and have him fired the
Saturday after Iowa.second the clock hits 00:00 of the Iowa game at mid-field in front of everyone.Fixed that for you.

Halftime of the Purdue game was not an option.

The Riley experiment buried us. It's going to take a minimum of 5 years to recover and in the back of my mind we may never recover from this one. Apathy has set in and we have lost everything we once stood for which took decades to build.

I learned that there is fight in some members of this team. Unfortunately the coaches do not put the players in the best position to win.
Honestly I was not mad about the loss because I know Riley is gone now.
I also learned that I am sure glad Eichorst was fired before this sex assault that occurred at his house. Boy would that have been embarrassing for the university.
Whoa what?

After the debacle against Ohio State, I cancelled my sports television package. I figured I would listen to the games on the internet or radio. Last week I listened to the Purdue game via Huskers.com. This week, I didn't even bother listening at all. I am done with Nebraska football this year. I have no ill will towards Riley personally, but this team is a dumpster fire for all the reasons cited above. I am beginning to think Mike Riley should be fired tonight or tomorrow. I seriously do not think we can wait until the end of the season. Nebraska is just plain awful in every aspect.
I haven't attended a home game since he was hired. I refuse to support this crap. Won't be attending until this is rectified.

I'm going to bet this is the week that Langs-O-callahan-de'beck decides to run between the tackles 50 times for 13 yards.

I respectfully disagree. It was so refreshing to have a calm influence on the sidelines. I’m sure the refs were glad not to have Bo in their faces all the time. Riley reached out to the fans and was indeed a healing influence on Husker Nation. He hasn’t panned out as a coach but I have appreciated his demeanor and I know I’m not alone in that assessment.
I think you are agreeing with me, you just don't know it
There were two camps:
1) Bo needs to Go
2) Bo should stay
There is now one camp:
1) MR is not a fit at Nebraska.
Whether you were in the "Bo needs to go" camp because of sideline behavior, off the field behavior or blowouts, you are now very likely in the MR is not a fit camp. If you were in the "Bo should stay camp" because he wins 9 games or whatever reason, you are now very likely in the "MR is not a fit" camp.
As for the bolded part, I don't really care what the refs like. They are there to monitor the game. We should not be making head coach decisions based on refs "feelings".

Rodgers is senile.

I want Scott to come home. Mike Riley thought he could make a change but didn't, except he did help heal up Husker Nation after Bo was fired. He reached out to the community and made Nebraska more acceptable by his sideline demenor.
However, he is not a good fit and never was. The sneaky way Eichorst hired him to,d us everything we needed to know. What AD hires a coach without counsel for the rest of the University?
Anyway, this was an interesting article that I hope doesn't come true. Come home Scott-You're our only hope.

The only way I see that he helped heal the fan base was by uniting them against him being hired. There were people who didn't want Bo gone, there were people who did. But everyone agrees MR should never have been coach here. So, in that respect yes he united the fan base. Unfortunately this probably needed to happen before we could move on.

This season is horrid and the Huskers seem destined for an 5-7 season. So fire the coach. There are certainly plenty of good reasons.
But maybe, we should think about this angle.
Brian Kelly took over for Charlie Weis in 2010 and recorded back-to-back 8-5 seasons before going on a somewhat magical ride to a 12-0 season. During that year, ND beat quite a few so-so teams just barely, but ended up in the title game, only to get run out of the building by Alabama. Kelly followed that with a 9-4 season and then went back to 8-5. He did get to 10 wins in 2015 but then went 4-8 last year.
Notre Dame chose to keep him and the Irish are in the midst of a one-loss season that could land them in the national title game.
We have a quarterback who seems to be getting better and better. We have a couple of quarterbacks that seem to be really good. Tristian seems to be more than good.
The 3-4 defense is struggling, but Coach Diaco and the squad have been working through growing pains. Maybe this unit could be pretty salty by next year.
I know I am probably crazy for saying this, and I have a hard time thinking that Riley will be there next year, but, what if we keep him and things work out?
Don't know myself. I am just throwing it out there.
Pretty simple explanation here as to why he doesn't get a 2nd chance compared to Kelly.
Head Coaching Record:
Brian Kelly 237-89-2 (.726)
Mike Riley 111 - 95 (.538)
MR has nothing in is 40+ years of head coaching experience that indicates he is going to get any better. Brian Kelly is significantly more accomplished and therefore gets the benefit of the doubt.

None of this is known at the time of the decision. If you can't grasp that fact, there is no reason to have this conversation.
Facts:
We went for it from the 20 and it was 4th and 6 and came away with zero points. Which forced us to get a stop anyway from the same field position as we would have if we kicked a FG. And we would have been down by 2 instead of 5. TO agrees, we talked already....

Didn’t they score the TD on the final drive or am I missing something?
We did, but I'm arguing we didn't need to put ourselves in a situation to HAVE to get a TD....from a team that has trouble scoring.
Hypothetical: How does Tanner Lee's skillset translate....

A pick six in the pro's is the same as a pick six in college. He has proven at two different schools he has turn over trouble. He will not last in the pro's, if he even gets drafted.
