  1. I'd have to give it to the entire Defensive backfield.. They just took the "sure thing" number 1 qb in the country and exposed him perhaps worse than any number 1 prospect has ever been exposed in a single game as a fraud.. 4/20 70 yards and 2 picks? Are you kidding me? I'd have called you a mad man if you tolde me we'd do that to ol Jakey boy this morning.
  2. For me, it's simple. Freshman qb playing his first road game in a hostile enviroment. How can you not be nervous about that?
  3. Man, I'm so pumped for this game! This one sets the tone!
  4. I concur with those who concur that we nebraskan's have not concurred what it means to act like a "nebraskan".. I've lived here for 20 years after growing up in California and I've yet to figure it out.. I see nothing at all wrong with the sticker. It's funny. And if any Texas fans get offended by it then that says more bad-sad things about them than you.
  5. I guess I mean similar breakout in the sense that hard core college football fan types that understand what a great cornerback can mean to the outcome will recognize he's the best in the nation. Not Suh like where suddennly idiots like ESPN first take or Jim Rome are talking about him.
  6. in this game.. Much like Suh did vs. Mizzery last year. Going into that game scouts and prospect guru types knew all about Suh, but outside of Lincoln he wasn't talked about much. After? Well, you know the story. This is Prince's chance to open eyes around the country and make a similar statement that he's the best player in the country, like Suh did. I can't see UW staying away from him. They believe they have the best QB in the country and are not going to let any cornerback eliminate a big play target for him. This will be Prince's chance to shine! Go Huskers!
  7. I don't think they guy is hurting anything. Not sure we need to call him a stalker because he wants to get a few autographs.. I live in and grew up in Lincoln and see the guys and coaches all the time. I'm not an "autograph" kinda guy myself and have never approached anyone but see locals asking for photos and handshakes all the time. They are used to it and generally don't seem to mind.
  8. Genius was the first word I thought of when I watched the announcement. I wish I was in a position to go! I was just "party" shopping online last week taking the quizes and tests looking to see if any party was representing me.. Still looking. It's not easy being a moderate in the middle of two extremes fighting a war.
  9. it did fine vs. a solid BYU team on the road. Air force is good this year, and will likely keep close with oklahoma til halftime. unfortunately, stupid coaching decisions and poor play on special teams doomed us. our average starting field position was terrible, and theirs was really good. also, we return a ton of starters from last year, unlike you guys, so last year should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. and since home field advantage has little to do with personnel, your point is invalid. and if you keep bringing up stupid arguments, i will no longer feel obligated to respond. Swifty, you're barely literate. Don't think I'll be bothered in the least if you choose not to respond. However, if you do, perhaps leave the obvious double standards out of your arguement? If weak competition doesn't count for us, it doesn't count for you. If how we played last year doesn't count for us, it doesn't count for you either. It's simple, try and keep up.
  10. your missing the fact that i never said we were all that great. we have a good offense and an excuse for a defense. and we're a lot better at home. see: 5-2 last year. How do you know you have a good offense? It didn't look good vs. BYU and according to you, beating teams that are "sorry" means nothing.. So, how can you claim your offense is good? Oh yeah, and remember, you said last year means nothing.. So you're 5-2 record at home is not worth mentioning.
  11. I will guarantee you that you do not have an advantage in the skill positions. We have crazy good cornerbacks and safeties, and a lights-out defensive line that goes two-deep as well as anyone in the nation. Where you might have an advantage is if you run the ball straight at us, or use short crossing routes around our linebackers. We've lost our top two linebackers due to injury and that's the weakest part of our defense. Of course, our backup linebackers are very, very good, so we'll see what happens there. Defense is my favorite side of the ball, and I'm very comfortable with our defense this year. We're certainly not unbeatable, but it'll take one hell of a game by an opponent to beat us. by skill positions, i meant QB, RB, and WR. in each, i think we have a slight advantage. in everything else, i think we will be overwhelmed As in, your QB is better than our QB? That I will agree with. While Martinez may have a great career ahead of him, we have a large body of work to look at for Locker, and he's impressive. At RB... I don't think you have an advantage. I'm not familiar with Polk other than what I've seen on film this week, but he does not appear to me to be better than Helu, and I have no idea who your backup is, but I know we go four-deep with pretty darned good skill. If Helu goes down we put in Burkhead, with no dropoff. If Burhead goes down we put in Robinson, with little dropoff. If Robinson goes down we put in Jones, with very little dropoff. We legitimately have four very good RBs. How our #1 compares to your #1 is what you're talking about, I presume, and that I cannot say. Helu is good, like 150-something yards against last year's VA Tech defense good. So who knows there. At WR I would venture your guys are better across the board. My guess is you want your WRs to be WRs, while our coaches seem to think our WRs must be WRs and offensive linemen - so much so that an inability to block has kept a few very good WRs on our bench at Nebraska. I think we have talent at WR, but we also have boneheadedness, and that boneheadedness has also cost us games. So this is also hard to say. The true test, though, isn't Locker vs Martinez or Polk vs Helu. It's your offensive skill players vs. our defense, and vice versa. That's where I think Nebraska has the advantage, because our defense is WAAAAAAAY better than our offense. And our offense is OK. first off, lol@guy who says NU's recievers are better. as for RB, you make an interesting argument. your certainly deeper than we are, but i watched a fair amount of nebraska football last year and was not impressed at all by roy helu. his line gets him his stats, not any elusiveness or YAC, like polk. comparing numbers though, i can see how you might think its close. but Our line does not help Polk out at all for the most part. he earns every yard he gets. and yes, your D is good. not yet willing to say it measures with the nation's elite, seeing as youve yet to have any competition, but they were certainly up there last year. Our offensive line was widely considered our largest weakness last year. So I'm not sure where you can say he benefited from them. We were injury riddled and flat out bad up front last year on offense.. And you're not ready to put our defense up with the nation's elite? We've not allowed a team to score 20 points in 10 straight games (second closest to us is 4 games) and we're not elite? Well, if the measuring stick is now, we can only call our defense elite if we do it this year, against the big dogs, the same can be said for just about every team, player and unit in the country so far. But until proven otherwise, our track record more than indicates our defense IS the nation's elite unit. hmm, i see i've struck a chord with nebraska fans. my opinion stands, even though i think helu will have a better game because our D-line SUCKS. just watching the two, i've not seen helu do anything amazing (though i didnt watch the missouri game). seeing polk, i see him breaking tackles and getting YAC every week. i know i'm biased, but i think a neutral observer would agree with me. and no, after wins over two of the most sorriest programs in the nation, your defense still needs to prove itself. of course they were good last year, but what i see is a group that last six starters, including suh, and a bunch of NU fans buying into preseason hype coming from the coaches. well you know what? our coaches said the same thing. yet we still suck on D. so no, until they go out and dominate teams that are any good, i will withhold judgement, positive or negative. Am I missing something or is your only win against one of the worst programs in the nation? Syracuse? Did they suddennly become not a joke anymore and nobody told me?

  13. I quit going over and reading other team's boards and blogs. By gameday I'd always end up hating them after reading their thoughts.. I made the mistake of reading the scout.com huskies site this morning and yep, sure enough, I hate huskie fans now
  14. Exactly. Much of our politics is dominated by strong personal feelings about the PERSON . . . and not so much about their beliefs. I know people from English classes years ago who would object to George W. Bush saying that we shouldn't let babies starve to death. My own father admits that he is angered just by the sight of Barack Obama. Neither reaction is rational. Unfortunately, rational thought looks more rare each and every day. Well said. It just hit me as I was listening to him talk that if I had a cell phone camera and recorded it, then picked out the soundbytes I wanted to and posted them on here under the heading "Obama supporter talks about what's wrong with America" there would be a ton of "pinko liberal, socialist, marxist," type comments.. Of course now that we know it was Osborne talking, it's just a great man being lead by a higher calling trying to teach accountability to our fellow man.. (And btw, there were kids in the room. Could you imagine what people would do with a video of Obama talking in front of kids about how greed is what's wrong with this country and how we need to care less about material goods? Glen Beck's head would explode.)
  15. Actually Peter Luger's steak sauce is not meant for the steak. But for the fries and other sides. In fact, I do believe you can get asked to leave Luger's if you poured sauce on the steak.
  16. Who said I wasn't trying to turn it political? It was meant as a political post. Is that not ok with you?
  17. ^ Not that we are doing so anyways. All those are are alarmism-driven names driven by one political faction in a bid to inspire fear and hatred for the goals of another political faction, which in turn has countered with similar names like "neocons" (to less effect). I agree with jliehr that the real question is what is the role of the federal government, and this is a point often misunderstood amidst the attempts by every political faction to paint every other political faction as populated by completely heartless, stupid, alien people. That said...Politics and Religion seems a more appropriate final resting place for this thread, but I got no problems with starting it here. I appreciate the move, I knew I had stumbled on a political section on this board at some point but for the life of me couldn't find it in my probably more than a little buzzed state last night.. Back to T.O. His speech was a call to get more active in the community. To help out the schools. To donate money to charity etc.etc. That part didn't raise my eyebrows at all.. Good stuff.. But then he continued. And said 'the difference between America today and the way I was raised is, we now place character and a mans worth on the car he drives, the size of his house or the suits he can afford. That's what's going wrong. Character is about how you treat others around you, how you help those in need.' He even made mention of how this new way of worshiping the material things was more dangerous to us than AL-Qaeda. I was shocked. Could you imagine what would happen if Obama said our own greed is more dangerous than Al-Qaeda? Anyways, I'm not a big political guy really. But found this interesting.
  18. Better than endorsing Detroit steaks anyways.. I think a Detroit steak is 40% rat, 40% gangbanger and 20% Ford pension..
  19. (sorry mods, I can't find a place where this thread belongs. But feel free to move it.) Was at a dinner tonight, will spare you the details but T.O. was the speaker.. He touched on so many different issues from Tony Blair, Al Qaeda (sp?)to Lou Holtz to Scott Frost, but the one thing that stuck out to me was.. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was anti capitalaism- a communist-socialist- slash whatever you people call Democrats these days. The vast majority of his speech was about how he grew up believing a mans worth was valued in his character, not in his clothes, or the size of his house, or the car he drove. But how a man's life was valued in the way he treated the poor. The steps they took to share their wealth with the less fortunate etc.etc.. It was a great speech from a legend. I was honored to hear it. But it got me thinking. If anyone, lets say, the President, made this exact same speech, it would be all over the internet as proof he was trying to destroy America.. Just saying.
  20. You know I was thinking the same thing until I saw the bad pass to Mcneil and his reaction a few times. Not so sure if he is on the same page or not. Just was currious about the stare down that he gave T-Mart. Maybe I am looking to far into it I noticed that look too.. He seemed rather disgusted by the throw.. But I wonder how much of it may have had to do with a senior giving a freshmen who messed up a "get it together noob" attitude.
  21. Yeah, some of these comments are confusing.. I'm worried about the game, but it's because I fear us self destructing. Others seem to think the Huskies are just a better team. I don't get that.
  22. they get sloppy in the second half. it really does not concern me. if our biggest problem is that we get up by 30 points and then start to play sloppy, well so be it. also, BO gets his team up for the big games. in big games, we definitely overachieve. last year, in the va. tech, OU, and TU games it was like a different team was on the field. you could throw in the 'zona game as well, but we were up to our full potential by then, i would except to see our best ball in the last game. defense will be in lock-down mode, and the offense will maintain focus. Does this game count as a big game though? Seems to me this is one of those trap games where you underestimate your opponent and play sloppy, not "get up" for a big game. hello... it is on abc. but compared to our other non-con games, it seems like a pretty game. national stage, first away game, small spread with people picking UW. jake "heisman hype" locker. seems like a pretty big game. They are 10-28 the last 3+ years.. And I don't think a regionally televised game on ABC means "big game" like it used to when the ABC game was a nationally televised event.. We'll see. Last time they played a "better" pac-10 team they blew them out 33-0. I could see some overconfidence here. Hopefully not.

  24. I like alot of his work. This one seemed fairly self indulgent and more of a resume building fluff piece though. Reminded me alot of Simers out in L.A..
