  1. Hey guys, Iowa fan here, and I'm curious about your impression of the B10 network (outside of the game programming) so far. I know when it first came out the studio stuff seemed like an afterthought and I didn't really take it seriously. It certainly wasn’t pulling me away from ESPN’s Gameday pre-game show, nor did I watch any of the post-game analysis or wrap-up.

However over the years I think they have really improved their studio and feature programming to the point where it’s a very viable product, even as a stand-alone product. Of course it could be that like an ugly girlfriend with a great personality it’s just sort of grown on me as time has gone by and I’ve learned to live with it by tuning out the ugly.

I’m curious on what you guys think of it. I’m assuming most of you didn’t get much exposure to it until recently and I’m wondering what those that tuned in to the finished product think.

I can’t wait to visit Lincoln on the 25th, I hope you guys fix what you need to fix and we’re playing for a spot in the title game. Suckeye fan out.

I LOVE BTN network. It's so nice not to have to pay to see our boys play. It was also so much fun watching our games from back in the 90's again. ESPN is ok but they repeat alot and some of their announcers don't like Nebraska (Fowler!) Give me BTN network any day.

  2. Not only this ^^^ but he's still a sophomore. People hate to hear that, but it's an unavoidable truth.

I would definitely have liked to see more growth from last year to this year, but we got baby steps instead of giant strides. It is what it is. There are still many mistakes, and they don't look like they're going away anytime soon.

The sad thing is that we don't have another option. Carnes is still too young to take the reins. Maybe next year? But if we put freshman Carnes in now, we can expect the same things we had with freshman Martinez last year. More pain, just from a different guy.

But could we put in Carnes for short periods of time? Maybe Martinez just gets overwhelmed. When that happens maybe put Carnes in so that Taylor can take a breather and get his wits about him. Would that work?

  3. Is how crazy this board gets. It is very entertaining.

I think we all need some perspective. Stay the course. The coaching staff will figure it out. The last thing NU wants to do is become a program that runs off a coach every 3-4 years.

Yeah, let's get behind our team! They need our support now more than ever, not kicked while they're down. While the game they lost was a big one, I'm sure that they feel worse about it than we can ever imagine.

Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne both have been shellacked like this in the past. Bo is going to be fine. Like someone else posted, he has to grow too. I look forward to seeing how we will evolve in the next 4 years. We have some really talented young men on our team but they're young. They'll learn.

On to the Ohio State game! GBR!!!

  4. Okay, ive sobered up. Sorry, i definitely over-reacted and apologize. I will always be a husker, but last nite was one of the worst games ive ever seen. At least with the cally years i knew what the problem was. Right now im not sure what it is. So frustrating!!

(Patting you on the back) We all felt that way CN. Think of what an ass I feel like after I wrote all over the board: WE WILL WIN! And I really thought we might pull it off as I watched the first quarter. We DID do some really good things in that first quarter but what is frustrating for me is why we didn't continue to do those things. Blah! I'm hoping that we'll get the opportunity to play Wiscy again.

  5. There iz not a single.thing good about the game

Really? Tell me how you felt the first quarter? We did some VERY good things in the first quarter. We had those Badgers a little rattled. I loved the 'back and forth' play. Martinez was spot on in the passing game, we had a very balanced approach. I don't know how you reacted to the first quarter but during that time I thought we could pull of the upset. I thought we could win. But we stopped doing those 'good things' and the game came unraveled for us.

So I must respectfully disagree with you. There were several good things about the game. :)

  6. Oh, absolutely. I'm not in any way advocating putting Bo on the hot seat. But the time to realize that changes have to be made - from Bo on down - is right now.

The strength of this program was always the longevity of the coaching staff. Bo needs to stay, but Bo also needs to grow.

Question: How DO coaches grow? Is it just by watching films, watching what other coaches do? Do they go to workshops like other professionals do? I'm just curious. I love Husker football but have no idea how coaches get better. Thanks :)

  7. That first quarter and a half, this young Husker team was taking it to a fringe title contender. Playing well on offense, decent on defense relative to what we've seen and expected.

The game was there to be taken. The coaches were calling plays in order to get kill shots, or at least to set them up. But they have this insane confidence in Martinez's ability to throw the ball. The kid burned them. Can it be fixed? The second interception can, for sure. I know the read on that play and T-Mart didn't even attempt reading it. The others, who knows?

It's high time we start putting confidence in the O-Line and the backs. I believe they've earned it.

I agree-we did some very GOOD things last night. We had Wisconsin rattled. They saw that we came to play. Then...the nightmare began. We became pass happy and our defense went flat. Ok...so that's behind us. What can we do now? I, for one, would like to see Coach Beck become dedicated to the run. It is Martinez strength. It was funny-watching Wisconsin play last night reminded me of the great Nebraska teams of the 90's. I read somewhere this past week that Barry Alveraz (AD for Wisc.-former NU player in the '60's) said that when he was a coach for Wisc. he wanted to model his team after the Huskers. Well, he did! We were playing that way in the first quarter why in the world did we stop?? That is what I just don't understand.

  8. Question: Is become a better passer something that can be learned? If Martinez committed himself to learning how to correctly pass, could he improve?

Also, was the real reason we lost due to Martinez or did we lose because we simply could not stop the pass...couldn't contain Wilson?

  9. I fully expect to beat Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship.

Take away our 3 interceptions and pull our heads out of our asses on coverage. That is all it is going to take.

Pelinis will fix the coverage. I am sure about that.

Taylor... Well we will see what Tim Beck can do. I'm sure it'll be better than SW.

I agree. I'm sure all of us were cheering our heads off when we scored first! They can't take that away from us. We played well first quarter. Our biggest problems were these: We got away from our running game and our defense couldn't stop the pass. So, come back next week and see what we can do at home.

  10. Oh for crying out loud! Get a grip! It's one game! We are a young team. We have alot to learn. Sheesh! We weren't the only ones that got the crap beat out of them tonight. Florida got beat, A&M got beat, Ohio State got beat! I'll bet you weren't 'abdicating your fandom' when we made that first touchdown or the second touchdown. Fair weather fans make me so tired!

  11. He's on TV for the same reason as Dick Vitale. They're entertaining to a vast majority of people in what they do. They've lessened a LOT of Lee Corso's load, but Lee's still as sharp as he ever was. I know many don't believe he was EVER sharp... but I think he knows football and knows how to analyze as well as most on TV. Glad to have him pick us rather than pick against us.

I think Lee has done very well considering the stroke he had. I've worked with stroke patients to improve their speech and he has done well. I don't see him as a 'confused little old man' quite the contrary. I enjoy his insights and he's been right about us more times than not. I think Herbstreit (sp?) doesn't really care for us and Fowler can't stand us so thanks Lee-you're right-we WILL win.

  12. Great story!

Even when you're having the greatest game of your college career at Wyoming - 170 yards rushing on only 15 carries and touchdown runs of 45 and 16 yards - "You definitely have to collect and prepare yourself to keep going out there and sell out every play, and I definitely had a focal point that worked for me," Burkhead said, pointing to a red rubber bracelet that says simply:

    Team Jack - Pray

Very cool. Best wishes to little Jack and his family!

  13. Win or lose it'll be fun to check back here as the season wears on. Hope you guys have a good first year in the Big Ten (other than Saturday night obviously). And I hope that the B1G stays at 12 because you guys are a perfect fit, and adding Texas or some other far-flung "star" program would throw off the lunchpail, Midwestern vibe that Makes the Big Ten special.

Also, I'm relieved that you guys are visiting Madison at night rather than the other way around. I suspect that in spite of all the X's and O's, it's still a bunch of kids out there, and home field advantage is probably good for 7 points in this contest.

Welcome! We're all looking forward to playing the Badgers on Saturday night. We have such a connection with Wisconsin as your beloved AD-Barry A. was once a Husker. :) It will kind of be like playing your brother in the back yard! (Big back yard!) The way you treat our fans is the way we would treat you when it's your turn to come to Lincoln. So, thanks for the great post-visit us often and may the team in red and white win! ;) GO BIG RED!!

  14. Christian and Skip both pick Wisconsin. Christian picks them to win 28-21, Skip expects 38-21. Christian talks about the "Nebraskas", no idea who they are personally. I will totally take the underdog roll. I would much rather be expected to lose and shock everybody with a win. Both say that Martinez can't throw, Wisconsin is gonna bottle him up, he won't be able to run through the Defense, blah blah blah...

This is my scarlet blood pumping through my veins, but Wisconsin is gonna see Nebraska's best game, Nobody has seen it yet. We have been saving it until now. Time to introduce the Big 10 to smash mouth Husker Power!

Holtz and May are both picking Wisconsin. Holtz even thinks that Wisconsin may win the National Championship! Too funny.

  15. A hearty thumbs up and thank you to all of the many Husker fans we met and experienced while visiting Lincoln this past weekend. A blanket of warmth was evident throughout our visit. At first, it appeared almost a fake sense of welcome.....which soon changed to genuine feelings almost everyone shared. Whether walking around the downtown, eating meals, pre-game or the aftermath of the game itself...you are all to be commended for the welcome you gave to our visiting fans.

Your overall knowlege of college football and even knowing a lot of information about the Huskies was evident.

Thanks as well to those of you who took the time to respond to my request about ideas for places to go and eat while in Lincoln. I must say Misty's in downtown was a winner! Pricy at around $200 for 3 people, the 16 oz Prime Rib was the Bomb! Lazno's was, in all candor, a bad experience. After getting to the table and ordering, the appetizer, salad and food were all given to us all at once and from ordering to finishing dinner it could have not taken more then 1/2 hour. The food was marginal at best and the service was poor.

The Sea of Red was everywhere. The small smattering of Purple around town sure made for an eyesore! Purple and Red certainly are not a good looking mix!

Before revisiting the game, I want to apologize for the guy who calls himself "UDub". We (this is me speaking on behalf of all true Husky fans) certainly do not speak for this jerk who does NOT represent who we are as fans. He has ZERO CLASS and I am truely sorry for his negative commentary on your Board. He sounds like he is one very little man who somehow got a computer and has nothing else better to do.

A few brief and random things on the game:

    - The naked bootleg near the end by Martinez was a piece of work. One of the best I have ever seen

    - No matter what arguement anyone suggests, the 2 blown calls by the referees were horrible calls. Simply terrible calls. The calls DID

make a difference in our kids (and Coaches) heads. That said, a football game is +/- 130 total snaps so no huge complaints overall

    - The Nebraska Tailback Position (if they stay healthy) will be loaded for the next 4 years. They are outstanding talent

    - Our young QB (Price) might be a good one. Gutsy kid. IMO he should have been relieved by Nick Montana in the 2nd half. He

    was hurt pretty bad

    - Good thing the Big Ten is not pass happy. Your Secondary (will change for the better when Dennard gets back) is not a strength

    - Your O-Line continued to battle as the game went on. They wore our DL out. We did not substitute well and it showed

That's enough. I don't want to ramble any more. Thanks again for a awesome weekend. Many....and I mean many...other Washington Husky fans who flew in to watch the game have told me they had very similar feelings about the Hospitality they recieved while in Lincoln from

    the Husker Fans.

I am a Husker Fan from now on. Dare I say...."Hope to see you play the Huskies again this year in the Rose Bowl?" Stranger things have happened!

You're very welcome. Thanks for coming. We're always glad when people come to our state and have a good time. (Too bad about Lazlo's-Haven't been there for a long time but they used to have really good ribs?)

Your qb is a tough cookie. Hard not to like a kid like that. I hope he gets better soon. I hate seeing those kids get hurt. I don't care which side they're on.

    Have a great season!

  16. We lost all composure after beinng bent over by the refs. Were a young squad and will be ok. Props for having enough balls to pay off the zebras. Well done.

The ref's didn't fumble the ball on the 1 yard long. The refs also didn't call holding on your boys, which they did the whole game, and the refs also didn't call the two helmet to helmet head butt cheap shots your boys pulled so stop your whining.
