is that we are too reliant on big plays to score td's. We need solid drives that end in touchdowns and not field goals. this is why we lose to good opponents and will/have lose big games. Big plays should be a plus not the only way to score touchdowns.
I agree. We have so much talent in the RB positions, let's use them! If we are a 'running team' then let's run but not always have the qb run. He's going to end up getting hurt. I would much prefer to just move the ball up the field, burn up clock than to have a few big plays and stall the rest of the game.

The O-line seemed to be a major weakness. Question: Can our O-line person be fired during the season or do we have to suffer with this person's coaching for the entire season knowing it's not going to get better? Why was this person retained?
Or could it be that we simply don't have strong enough/athletic enough/tough enough players on the O-Line?
One of my major 'gripes' about yesterday's game was all the holding the other team did and the refs didn't call it. I didn't think the officiating was very good yesterday. Martinez was whacked a couple of times after he had scored and the refs turned a blind eye, yet when one of our boys, who couldn't stop their momentum, was called 15 yards for tackling out of bounds? Blah! I hate that kind of crap.

Loved the post game analysis 10x better then the 4 letter network.
It's nice because the BTN obviously only covers Big Ten games leaving them a lot of time to talk about each game.
No problems here (Omaha area) I have Cox advanced. However, I didn't like it when they came back to our game and we had missed some of it-not cool. Question: BTN2Go-I am a Verizon subscriber. Can I get that service on my Smart Phone?

Turners play was ridiculous
Seriously. He's a gamebreaker. He needs lots of touches.
I can't wait until teams load up the box and blitz Taylor (which is inevitable). Beck will hopefully have the sense (that our former OC did not) to dial up a screen pass to Green/Heard/Abdullah/Turner/Bell. Look out when any of those guys gets into open space.
Question: The commentator with Kevin on Saturday gave some really good suggestions for the offense. Do you think Coach Beck, et al ever listens to those suggestions? I think the commentator was a former quarterback? I thought some of his suggestions were spot on.
Thanks!

Agree they are young. They should get better. They need to get better.
While it was not pretty they still put 40 points on the board and some decent numbers. Granted it was all big plays....
Thought Kug and Kelly did a nice job calling the game. I like Kelly's insight. I think he nailed it when he talked about blocking on the 2nd level. Really like the BTN. Lots of coverage to all teams. Studio gives good coverage to all teams, not just top dogs and high pop states.
Fairly clean game from the offensive penalty wise. Cleanup the fumbles on the pitches and a few better passes will help too.
I remember hearing a poll on KFAB or 1620 the Zone and the question was: 'If Nebraska doesn't play as you expect, how will you react?' I have to admit I didn't have a good feeling about this game. We have a tendency to 'hype' our first game. There was so much talk of 'Oh, we're going to beat the crap outta this team, yeah-we're gonna hand them their a--. but I remember South Dakota State last year and IMHO we should never underestimate ANY team that comes to our house to play.
I thought we did ok. While we have a lot of things to work on, there were 40 points on the board. We only let the other team score 7 on us, our kicker was solid and there were great flashes of what is to come with some of these new players. My favorite was that Stafford kid! Man! He hit like NU players back in the day.
We will get better. For those who hated the game, what were your expectations? Truly, I would like to hear what people expected would happen? I know my husband said that he thought we would hand Chat. their backsides. I disagreed. Those boys were so psyched to play and sometimes that backfires on you (remember Texas last year?) The nerves will calm down, the O-line will learn to play together and up their tempo. I think it will be exciting to see them at the end of the season.
GO BIG RED!

AND LOVING IT!!! WHOOOO HOOOO!!!! (Throw Confetti!!!)

I'm running into the same problem! The issue I have is that I have cox cable and they don't carry BTN!!! Odds are you won't be able to catch the game here unless you have access to a computer.
Do you just have cox basic cable? We have cox advanced and we have like 3 or 4 BTN channels. If you upgrade you'll get to watch Huskers all season.
It's not an issue of upgrading tiers. Cox in Oklahoma does not have BTN. When I've called and sent an email requesting it they sound like they have absolutely no interest in adding it to their list around here.
I'm really sorry to hear that for you (Hey, don't mean to change the subject but since you like in OK do you really think OU will leave the Big 12 and if so have you heard as to what conference they would be leaning to?)
Back to the game day issue-switch to Direct TV! When cox starts losing viewers maybe they will think twice about adding BTN to their line up!

I don't like any of those options. Would love to have Mizzou and OU come to the B10. Tamu to the SEC, Okie St to the Pac 12.
others left behind to crash and burn
Me either. It would be a blast to have OU come to the B1G!

This has already been settled. See Kirk Herbstreit crying like a little girl on espn after fans vote the 95 and 71 NU teams as the two best ever and 95 taking the cake.
I remember that! It was SO funny!

Link to site (Orlando Paper) where you can vote for one of their picks for greatest college football team ever. Click the link and vote for 1971 Nebraska of course.
Sorry! It's gotta be the '95 team!! It has 47% of the votes so far!! GBR!

I think i brought fear into everyone on this board with this post.
Are you kidding? I'm still laughing!!

Since I wrote this request I found a 'Top Ten List' of why Nebraska Hates Texas. See how many of these you agree with:
10. Texas gets Steve Hatchell as new commissioner
9. Big 12 title game moves to Arlington
8. Refusal to rotate Big 12 Championship Game to Kansas City
7. Texas jumps on board for championship game
6. Texas getting bigger piece of pie
5. Texas hi-jacks the Big 12 for Pac-10
4. Moving Big 12 offices to Dallas from Kansas City
3. Texas stomps out partial qualifiers
2. UT’s obnoxious fans
1. 2009 Big 12 Championship Game controversy
Hi,
I had an interesting discussion at lunch today with a friend. She is from Oklahoma and we were discussing how OU is ranked #1 this year, etc. She said that she hopes that NU beats the crap out of Ohio State. I told her that I hope OU beats the crap out of Texas. She said, 'Why?' I said, 'Because I HATE Texas!' and she said, 'Why do you hate Texas?' AND SHE WAS SERIOUS!!!
I sat there dumbfounded for a minute and said, 'Well, first of all, they destroyed the Big 12.' She asked, 'How did they do that?'
I told her that they didn't agree with spreading the 'wealth' across all of the teams, but my mind just went blank.
Would someone please list the reasons that NU hates Texas. Please include the oppositions that Osborne had. If they are already listed somewhere else on this board, please direct me to those posts and I won't waste your time with this. It just blew me away that someone from OU-Big 12 former Big 8 didn't know why Nebraska would hate Texas!!
Thanks!

Admittedly Ripped from Facebook & Likely Many Other Places:
Twas the night before Husker football and all through the state, everyone was game-facing for the Husker tailgate. The beers were placed in the cooler with care, cus a great drinking atmosphere takes time to prepare. Fans were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of touchdowns danced in their heads. They went to bed early to heed the wise warning: you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!
With Husker football roughly one month away, what is your Husker wish?
Mine = Two victories over Wisconsin and Ohio State which sends a ripple of fear through the rest of the Big 10! Pass the Kool-Aid!
Mine-That we win all of our regular season games, win the B10 conference championship then go on to the BSC title game against Texas and beat the crap outta them!! (In reality, even if we do lose any games this year, I hope that our Huskers would be competitive!)

It looks like Eric Crouch has made the Omaha Nighthawks UFL football team. There were alot of negative comments following this story but I say, give the guy a chance. What do you all think? Does he have a chance?

Why in the world would ESPN do this?
Because Ohio State used FERPA to withhold a large volume of emails between Tressel and Ted Sarniak, Terrelle Pryor's "mentor," citing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Very loosely defined, FERPA was created to protect the privacy of student-athletes as it pertains to their private academic life. Vaguely, their athletic career is mostly an open book, but their academic career is mostly a closed book. FERPA helps keep that book closed.
The Buckeyes responded to the FOIA requests from The Dispatch (local Ohio paper) and ESPN, among others, but not fully. One of the main things they refused to provide, that was greatly desired by the press, were the emails between Tressel and Sarniak. Those emails contained, the press felt, key information into who knew what, about what, and when. When OSU denied that part of the FOIA request, this lawsuit was inevitable.
In order for OSU to successfully fight off this lawsuit they're going to have to show that the content of the emails was so full of private information about Terrelle Pryor (or any other student-athlete) that they could not be provided, even in a redacted form, without compromising his right to privacy. From what I'm hearing this is not going to be an easy thing for the Buckeyes to show, and the Ohio Supreme Court has, apparently, traditionally sided with openness in public records.
Thank you everyone for sharing your answers. Wow! How interesting. It will also be interesting to see how all of this plays out. Do you think it will hurt Pryor's NFL career? Thanks again!

Wearing red...eating wings...watching the Big 10 Network shows! Ahhhhhh! Feels like a GAME DAY!! GO B1G!!!!

I heard the boys talking about this article on 1620 the Zone the other day. Here's the link: http://sports.omaha.com/category/barfknecht/
When I first heard about it I thought, 'Yeah-right! Like that's ever going to happen. Ask the folks in Arkansas if they have a 'truce' with Texas. AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

What don't you like about the B1G logo, Hujan?
Well, I should say that "BIG" by itself would not be so horrendous if not for the baby blue color they chose. I strongly suspect that they chose that color specifically because it is not associated with any teams in the conference, and therefore avoids giving the impression that the conference belongs to any one team, which might've happened if they'd used, say, royal blue, red, yellow, green, black, etc.
But the real problem is when they stack "BIG" atop "TEN." It's like, "See how the 'G' resembles a zero? And the 'I' kinda looks like a '1'? Put 'em together and you've got '10' inside of 'Big,' as in 'Big Ten'! Isn't that clever! But just for good measure, we put 'TEN' beneath it."
I mean, I know it's hard to see, but take a look at this graphic which shows all the conference logos:
Tell me that the Big Ten's logo doesn't stand out like a sore thumb of candy-ass branding. It is a joke compared to the Pac-10, MAC, or even---dare I say it---the Big XII logo. It just looks totally lame to me, especially in baby blue.
I don't mind the logo so much but why did it have to be blue? Ewww! Why couldn't it have been black or even red.

Here is the link to the memorial that was held at Northwest Missouri State University for head football coach Scott Bostwick who died this past Sunday.
Our daughter currently goes to school there. Coach B always wore a red hat with his Bearcat green. I read on Facebook that all of the students are planning on wearing a red hat to the first home game of the season this fall as a tribute to Coach Bostwick. He will be missed.
Couple other things I noticed

This offense needs Taylor to be the biggest playmaker which is precisely why you will see something eerily similar to 2010. It's not there guys and it won't be.
Just curious-Why do you think it 'won't be'?
