  1. This doesn't really change anything. Granted, like most everyone I never thought he'd come, but really, didn't we always expect he'd be a top ten pick? Is anyone really surprised the Royals grabbed him at five? And now that it's official, why does anyone think this means we have less chance of landing him when that's where he was expected to go the whole time?

Wouldn't we all have basically fallen off of our chairs if he had dropped to 12th or 15th?

Now is when the real work begins. And the real decision-making. I don't for a second believe that the Starling family has been lying to the press - and through them, to us - that they'd like to see Bubba go to college at Nebraska. I think that's a very real, very deep feeling from these people. The only question is, is Bubba ready to take on the role of a man, and to become a professional. That's a question only the family can answer. Bo can't do it, we can't do it, the Royals and Scott Boras can't do it.

Whatever he decides, I'll support him. But it'd be a heck of a lot more fun to support him in a red cap than a blue cap. ;)

I remember reading somewhere that Bubba didn't know if he was mature enough to play at the next level. I know that Erstad said that he was grateful for his time in college because it taught him how to deal with people. I'm hoping that Bubba comes to Nebraska. Money isn't everything. He could come here, grow up and still be able to play for the majors. I vote that he comes here.

  2. Saw the magazine today. NU comes in ranked 10th, as well as their pick to win the Legends division to lose to OSU. Wonder if recent events may change some of those thoughts.

Have to like the mag, because the best DL, LB and DB corps in the league our found just north of O St. Crick and David are first team AA. Dennard and Kyler Reed join them as first team all conference, and Rex, Camstache and Baker round out the NU contengent on the 2nd team.

Ahh.....summer time where the magazines kick in to do their part to kill the time and build the hype. Love it, makes up for my early hatred of my beloved Cubbis.

Interesting! I read this review on Rivals.com It will be interesting to see how this all pans out:

Will Ohio State Still Win the Big Ten Title? http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1228164

  3. This is the right place ladyhawke. This is actually very big news. As you said many Nebraska prep standouts have gone/are going to NWMS. Also they are a VERY good DII, a powerhouse if you will. This is tragic considering he just was promoted in December.

    From the NWMS website

    The Link

He also attended Nebraska Weslyan. WOWT had this report:

    http://www.wowt.com/sports/headlines/Northwest_Missouri_State_Football_Coach_Dead_At_49_123201973.html

"Bostwick earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan where he was a four-year letterwinner and was named all-conference and all-district on the gridiron. He was inducted into the university's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 and is the program's third-leading tackler.+

It's so sad. My husband and I are NWMSU alums and our daughter currently attends at Northwest. Once a Bearcat-Always a Bearcat.

Our prayers are with the family.

  4. I dont' know if this is the place to post this or not but I know many of our Nebraska kids go to Northwest Missouri State down in Maryville, Mo. Their head coach Scott Bostwick died late this morning in Maryville of an apparent heart attack. He took Coach Mel Tjeerdsma's place after Mel retired last year.

I wonder if Mel will come out of retirement until they can find someone to replace Bostwick. Very sad news.

  5. I have not looked at them and I don't know any of the sites and I probably wont try and find them because I am on summer break!!! But, what do OSU posters think of Bo's name being tossed around. I know that there are so V-bags over on some of the Husker "fan" sites (I use that term loosley because it is clear that some posters on HI or Huskersonline are not husker fans) that think Bo could never get another job anywhere but they already have Chris Pederson from BSU lined up as the next NU coach.

So, if you find any cool posts or links, share them here.

I looked at the 'Buckeye Planet' message board and Pelini wasn't mentioned as a serious contender. Here is a list that one of the posters on that board compiled but he said these were names that would probably be thrown out. I seriously can't see Bo leaving NU because I don't think he's done anything to warrant an invite to tOSU. They are going to look for a very high profile person to take this job. I'm thinking more of a Bob Stoops or an Urban Meyer type. Anyway, here's the list:

"I'm certain the following names will be "thrown out" in the coming weeks and months - with absolutely no correlation to the likelihood either that they'd consider the position nor that they'd be considered for it."

    Gary Patterson

    Chris Peterson

    Chip Kelly

    Urban Meyer

    Gus Malzahn

    Nick Saban

    Mark Dantonio

    Bo Pelini

    Mark Stoops

    Bob Stoops

    Mark Richt

    Gary Pinkel

    Tony Dungy

    Mel Tucker

  6. First of all, welcome to the board...

Second of all, I concur with the two previous distinguished gentlemen. I think our defense will be ready, and a little upset as to how thing ended up last year. I'm sure they're going to want to put that behind them, and get a little payback. I don't like Mr. Price's odds in the least.

As long as the offense play relatively mistake free football, this game should be won by a couple scores.

Ditto to what walksalone said plus we'll be playing at our house-again :)

Welcome to the board and we look forward to seeing you in the fall.

  7. I thought during Football season the Big Ten Network added like more channels to show other Big 10 games. So we won't be able to watch every cupcake game on the Big Ten Network?

DirecTV, Dish Network and some cable providers add BTN subchannels for all games on the BTN at the same time. So if you have DirecTV or Dish then you will see all games broadcasted on the BTN even with 3 to 4 games on the channel at the same time.

We have Cox and get the BTN channel.

  8. You're certainly right. Bubba himself has said he doesn't know if he's mature enough to be an adult just yet...don't forget about the numerous and practical intangible benefits of going to college for a few years and learning how to grow up and become an adult.

I think that's why he may come to Nebraska instead of going to the majors. He's so young and I think really close to his family. His Mom sure does want him to go to school but I've read his Dad is out of a job right now so Bubba might be feeling that he needs to help out financially. Tough decision.

  9. I don't know many people who "look forward" to playing Missouri. Most of the people I chat with hate playing Missouri for one reason or another, mainly because whoever wins continues to remind the loser for a full year.

I won't go on a rant about Missouri because I respect fro and because I've already been there/done that more than once.

I'm sure there are good Iowa fans out there, but the unfortunate aspect of their fan base is that I only ever hear the bad things they have to say.

I will admit that the ones who write on the one Iowa Message Board I visited are the ones that I'm sure we all love to hate. Those folks were jerks of the first water. Can't wait til we play them so that we can begin our reign over them!

  10. On the MIzzou front, what happened with the Gabbert brothers, weren't they both looking to go to Nebraska? Are any of you wondering what could have been if you had a passer like Gabbert? Especially with last years Nebraska team? Or did you guys get a better QB recruit at the time?

Character before anything else, imo, and in Bo's as well. They didn't commit to Nebraska, they committed to Shawn Watson and Bill Callahan (in the case of the elder brother), and we aren't interested in kids that aren't interested in being here. Blaine Gabbert could have been incredible at Nebraska, redshirting his freshman year behind Keller and Ganz (what an idiot move by Pinkel to waste a year of his prize quarterback's eligibility), but we're glad we didn't have him, because we have other quarterbacks that are willing to do anything to play for our university.

I read in the paper tonight that Tyler Gabbert has left Missouri. Their Spring Game was just to much for him!

  11. Is Ladyhawke a Husker fan or a Hawkeye fan? I always assumed that she is a Hawkeye fan because of her username.

EEEEEEEEEEEEE! WRONG! But thank you for playing! I'm as Husker Red as you are. ;) 'ladyhawke' comes from the movie of the same name Ladyhawke. I went to college with kids from Iowa. We called them 'Hogeyes' instead of Hawkeyes. I thought it was cool that there were a few (and maybe those girls were the only ones-who knows!) folks from Iowa that are glad we're coming to the B1G.

  12. I think the success of his future is the deciding factor.

Sure, with his ability he could tear it up in the minors, but when it comes to taking the next step... is he going to be a pro football or pro baseball player or maybe some other career? That's what is so tough for him to decide right now. MLB would be the easy route for him right now (financially as well), But he is a well grounded kid and does not want to do just what's easy... He wants to succeed for years to come and wants to see and prove to everyone what he's really made of.

He could benefit from playing two sports, getting a degree, and possibly more money down the road. He should build his character by proving himself on another level. His family would understand, and would be very supportive of him in college I'm sure.

Although there are risks, the players that make it through will stand out. An education means something to some people. :bigredn:

I agree. You read so many sad stories of kids going right into the pros, making tons of money and then ending up on drugs et al and washed up before they're 25. I don't think that would happen with this young man but it could. Going to college does more than just give you a degree. It allows one to mature, to building intellect, athleticism and especially character.

  13. I was at a professional workshop last Friday and our speaker was from Michigan. She was commenting on things Michigan and Nebraska had in common. I called out, 'We're both in the B1G now! She wasn't a football person so that just went right over her head BUT! There were a group of women from Iowa behind me and they said, 'We're really glad you're in our conference now. It's going to be fun!'

I think that Iowa will be our new 'Missouri'. We'll beat them alot and they may beat us once in a great while but we'll always look forward to playing each other. I think Wisconsin will be our new 'Oklahoma' because of the 'Nebraska connection' (Barry Alverez-Wisconsin AD)

Anyway, not all Iowa fans are bad. Many of them are really looking forward to playing us and having us be part of the B1G.

  14. Good read. Kind of shuts up those critics of his. Hopefully if Steinkuhler will live up to the expectations, Crick could get a free hand into greatness. Remember it takes two to tango.

Steinkuhler had better start living up to those expectations or he's going to find himself watching from the sidelines. We have sick talent at DT, and we're solid four-deep. This is an embarrassment of riches, this is:

    1st String: Crick/Steinkuhler

    2nd String: Moore/Randle

    3rd String: Rome/Guy

    4th String: Peat/Williams

Rankings are speculation on my part, of course, but I'm confident that any of those top six guys could come in and perform admirably this year. Those are some heavy hitters, and Baby Stein had best play like he wants the job. If he does, look for Crick and EMart/Stache to wreak havoc all year.

Now I may not agree with your feelings towards the qb situation, but your depth at D-tackle is right-on. It kinda makes my heart pitter-patter a bit seeing those names on paper. We've got CRAZY depth on the d-line and I can't wait to see those boys in action. Seems like a "jump on or get the hell out of the way" kind of group.

Kinda reminiscent of Grant Wistrom and the boys eh?

  15. Two quickies: Knapplc i believe that AAU is invitation only so i don't know if you can apply or even appeal, but it sounds like you may have the inside track on this,

second, it is possible that the member of the Big Ten that didn't vote for Nebraska was Chicago, I say this b/c the Big Ten has long regarded its academic arm a separate conference, of which Chicago is a part of, and I could see nebraska including them in speaking in regards to the AAU as a member of the Big Ten. I would seriously doubt michigain being the guilty party as has been spoken of earlier and this is coming from a tOSU guy.

Trust me if you guys know any graduates from U of Chicago you can probably see this as a possibility... just saying :)

Do you mean Northwestern? (U of Chicago isn't in the B!G) but Northwestern is. Maybe they are the ones that voted against us-They're still mad because we beat the crap outta them in 2000 (66-17)lol

The University of Chicago is known as a charter member of the Big 10. Academically, I believe they're part of the Big 10 in some regard.

Got it. Thanks for the information (I was thinking strictly football)
