  1. I sometimes wonder if he's got a disorder like Asperger's Syndrome. I don't really know that much about it to know how well the symptoms match. Just wondering if that's an explanation for how he appears.

As someone who works with individuals who have Asperger's Syndrome-No, Taylor doesn't have Asperger's Syndrome. Taylor is a kid. A diamond in the rough. How eloquent are most boys when they're 20 years old and are in the spotlight? He'll get better as he matures. I'm sure he will cringe when he watches this interview say, in 5 years. There will be people who will come along and help him become more polished. I'm more interested in the way he'll play football for us this year. I'm hoping that the rest of the quarterbacks vying for the job will light a bit of a fire beneath him! Could be interesting :)

P.S. If you're interested in what Asperger's Syndrome looks like take a look at Dr. Temple Grandin. Dr Grandin is a famous veterinarian who actually talks about her syndrome. She is a remarkable woman. (Genius! Truly! Many, MANY of the greatest minds of our time had Asperger's Syndrome.)

  2. Credit really goes to Eric & addict - Eric, for pushing the idea and making sure we got it done; addict, for putting together the sweet images. From there it was just making it display, one line of HTML.

    Looks nice, huh? :)

Gotta love the 'Team' effort! It's very 'Husker'. Well done Gentlemen! Keep up the great work.

P.S. I'm sorry for the poster who isn't able to access Huskerboard at work. I would invest in a Smart Phone then you can access it :)

  3. Yikes! I have a feeling this will be the most hyped game if the season! It will be devastating if they drop 1 or 2 of those 5 games, then come into Lincoln and steal a win. :bang

Since I really don't care about tOSU and their situation, what does the suspension all consist of? Sitting out just games or all football related activities until the 5 games is up?

OMG, don't say that. We don't want a re-occurence of the Texas v. Nebraska game of last year.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! We can do without the hype! Blah! Just let them quietly come into Lincoln and just play some good football. We don't need the ESPN Game Day truck and all that hoopla!!

Rimington Humbled and ‘Kind of Shocked’ with Big Ten Decision to Honor Him

Former Husker Lombardi and Outland Trophy winner Dave Rimington was honored this week when the Big Ten Conference announced his name would be part of a new set of trophies created to recognize the league's rich and storied history.

Rimington, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, and Ohio State's Orlando Pace were chosen to represent past legends and leaders on trophies that future generations of Big Ten athletes will compete to win. The Big Ten Offensive Line Player of the Year will be awarded the Rimington-Pace Trophy.

The awards are part of a lineup of 18 new trophies unveiled Monday in conjunction with the Big Ten's announcement of new football division names and a new logo for the 2011-12 academic year.

"I'm honored and I'm humbled to be the only guy from Nebraska on this list," Rimington said. "But I was kind of shocked by the whole thing because we've had so many great players at Nebraska ... guys like Johnny Rodgers and so many others. I never even thought I was the best athlete on my team. I guess that's one of the advantages of playing a position that nobody wants to play. I know they probably took some heat from people who might say this guy has never played a down in the Big Ten, so why is he on an award? I guess they're trying to figure a way to integrate Nebraska into the Big Ten, so I think it was a good gesture, and I am appreciative."

Only Back-to-Back Outland Winner in History

The only player ever to win the Outland Trophy in consecutive years (1981 and 1982), Rimington is one of the most decorated offensive linemen in college football history.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pound center was a two-time first-team All-American in 1981 and 1982 and is one of just 17 Huskers to have his jersey retired. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997, while his jersey was retired by Nebraska in 1982.

Tom Osborne, Rimington's head coach at Nebraska and now athletic director, said the honor was well-deserved. "We have a lot of great players the Big Ten could have selected, but I guess when you think of center, usually you think of Dave Rimington, and that's not just Nebraska, but nationally. Dave probably combined size, speed and strength about as well as anybody. He was one of the quickest guys off the ball we've ever seen here. He was amazing at center and did a great job for us every game. The Big Ten is obviously trying to be inclusive and have every team that they can be represented. So I think it's an interesting and probably appropriate that they could pick somebody like Dave out as someone who is symbolic or emblematic of Nebraska football."

A three-time first-team All-Big Eight choice from 1980 to 1982, Rimington was named the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year in 1981, marking the only time in conference history that a lineman has earned the prestigious honor. During his career, the Omaha South grad helped the Huskers win back-to-back Big Eight titles in 1981 and 1982. Nebraska led the nation in rushing during his senior season.

A four-year letterman and three-year starter, Rimington was named team captain and capped his senior season by winning the 1982 Lombardi Award. Also, a two-time first-team academic All-American, Rimington was honored by the NCAA as a Top-Five Student-Athlete and was selected as a National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete in 1982. He was also a three-time first-team academic All-Big Eight choice from 1980 to 1982. In 1999, he was selected to the Walter Camp All-Century team.

First Husker Ever in CoSIDA Hall of Fame

More recently, Rimington became the first Nebraska student-athlete in history to be inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Rimington claimed that distinguished honor in 2004.

A first-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1983, Rimington played five seasons with the Bengals, and played two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring in 1989.

Rimington is the president of the Boomer Esiason Foundation and resides in New York. In 2000, the first Rimington Award sponsored by the Boomer Esiason Foundation to honor college football's center of the year was presented to Nebraska center Dominic Raiola, whose jersey No. 54 was retired in 2002. The annual award is presented in Lincoln. This year's Rimington Banquet will be held at the Rococo Theatre on Jan. 15, 2011.

    Excellent!

  5. i read on d2football.com today that this morning University of Nebraska-Omaha is moving to Division 1 and joining the Summit League. And in doing so they are going to drop the football team and wrestling program as well. This is very shocking because UNO is tradition rich in football and they are the back to back d2 wrestling national champs.

So sad. If you would like to 'read all about it' go to the 'Other Sports' section of the HuskerBoard. Very interesting reading!

  6. The 84 OB. We win that, and Miami possibly never would have had the dynasty they did during the 80's and early 90's. We may have won a few more during that time.

I also like the 96 CCG, fwiw.

Ditto (84 OB) That game was the most painful game I've ever watched in my Husker loving life! Blah!! I bawled my head off after that game!!! Also, 2009 loss against Texas. WE WAS ROBBED!!!

  7. Really? This much vitriol over UNO football and wrestling? Has anyone ever attended a game? Losing football does make sense when you read the article. Its expensive, and going D1 will add more cost than bloodgames pay. Title IX is more of the issue if you ask me, but since that outdated pos is not going away, its a matter of making due. I think the reason people get fired up is its football, and we all love football. But really. They play on the same day the Huskers do, and will never compete on the same level. And as it would take millions more funding for it, its sad, but I get it. As to wrestling, I could not care less, that is a sport I have never understood. Its successful, yet not exactly something John Q. Public goes out to attend.

Trev Alberts isnt getting fired. Hell, most people won't even know UNO football is gone. Hockey is the school's future. Expect a new hockey arena where the football stadium sits. All signs point to it team being a title contender with the coach they have, and an on campus facility should swing it back to a money maker.

And for the record, UNO will probably win a game in the NCAA tournament before NU does...

They are choosing hockey over football and wrestling. In the article I read it said that 'hockey will be UNO's 'crown jewel' sport. They're also adding soccer and golf (and soccer isn't expensive?) I can see their reasoning but if you have a national championship caliber anything wouldn't you keep it??

Lots of poopy hittin the fan!!

  8. First off, let me premise by saying that I understand that rivalries don't need catchy names - Nebraska vs. Oklahoma survived for quite sometime without having an official title, whereas the OU vs. UT was dubbed the "Red River Rivalry." Having said that, I am a pretty dedicated Nebraska fan that lives in Iowa, therefore have many friends/family that are Hawkeye fans - thus, this new match-up excites me. Anyways, getting back on topic, I'd like to give the rivalry a title - not caring if it ever becomes "mainstream" or not, that's not the point. I am trying to think of something that's possibly funny and could incorporate some of the geographic similarities of the two states as well (but not necessary). I have heard of "Farmageddon," "The Corn-Hawk Rivalry," and "The CornBelt" among a few other names, but I just haven't heard "it" yet. If there are any creative minds on the board, and would be willing to share, I'd appreciate your input. It could be something off-the-wall as well...

    GBR!

    Bill

My husband votes for the 'Harvest Bowl' I kinda like that too but my vote still goes to Farmageddon.

  9. I actually think the Farmageddon nickname is going to catch and become a very, very widespread term used by fans and commentators/writers/etc. unofficially. It seems like it's been sticking so far.

I vote for Farmageddon. I wish I still had the picture that someone posted on here when we first heard we were going to the Big 10. It was a picture of a farmer in a field with a nuclear bomb in the background. Genius. If anyone still has that picture could you post it?

  10. Needs to get his facts straight. CU isn't going to the Big 10 as he mentioned!

We don't think we're the 'Harvard of the Midwest' we KNOW we're the Harvard of the Midwest. I'm surprised this guy still has a job. How immature!! Nothing like hearing an adult have a public tantrum. LOL

  11. Best = Shatel

    Worst = Dick

Dick really has pushed me away not only with his coverage of the coaching search but also his coverage of the Huskers basketball team. I used to follow him on Twitter to get updates but I got fed up with everything he said. Never gave anyone any credit for doing anything good.

Example - Huskers beat Texas in bball....not a single line/comment. Huskers lose to ANYONE he drops 15-20 different lines about how bad they are and how inconsistent. I get it, they were inconsistent and lost to bad teams, but come on...absolutely nothing to say about one of the greatest victories in recent Husker BBall history? He's just as bad as local Omaha news, never responds to anything positive, it doesn't get the attention. To me, he is definitely trying to become a polarizing figure for his own professional gain. Not saying he should never be critical - but give the damn players some credit sometimes instead of always berating and criticizing. Just makes you seem like a bitter, hateful Hawkeye fan.

    :boxosoap

    Nailed it. He's a joke.

    Isn't Dirk going to ESPN??

  12. Well we could see the tressel situation escalate greatly if the yahoo sports report is true. I'm hoping it doesn't escalate because if tressel runs into a situation where Ohio st gets punished for his actions Bo is going to be a top candidate to replace him.

The real problem here is that the NCAA needs to revamp their whole violation policy. I think Tressel will be fine.

  13. We have airtime, one way or the other. The stat i wanna see is how many appearances do various schools make on those ESPN classic broadcasts. I wonder if one could make the argument the reason many 'classic' Nebraska game WINS are not played, rather than the losses, is simply because in others eyes complete domination does not make a classic, or something like that...make any sense? Who besides us wants to see Florida wiped out by 40 over and over again? A couple schools? Maybe its more of a compliment that so many classic games with Nebraska losing are shown. Its not too hard to think. If Im some random NBA player from the 90's, I have pictures on my wall of me shooting on MJ. Not Penny Hardaway.

and as a response to the ladyhawke post(s): that is the very game that defines nebraska football for me, no matter that it was a loss. thats the game i'd show someone that had never seen nebraska football before, just because of the talk it would open up after it. i watch it every time i see it is on, and i sit on the edge of my seat every time at the end. thats one, among many, I thank ESPN for playing all the time. who cares its a loss...its nebraska never give up, never surrender, ill fight to the end attitude in full display. even the best gunslingers caught one eventually.

    Hey mmtodd,

That's an interesting way to look at it. Someone else brought up the point that it shows NU's tenacity in staying with the game until the very end. For me, it's just so painful to watch! I remember the day after that game everyone at the elementary school that I worked at were in mourning! Seriously! It's like someone died! I cried after that game! After that game, I said, 'I'm never going to get emotionally involved in a Nebraska football team again!' Yeah right! Famous last words! lol I was cheering them on the very next year.

For me, I love the games where we beat the crap outta the other team. Sorry, I just miss that smashmouth football we used to play and love it when I get to see it once in awhile.

Anyway, my original question was that I wondered if the Big 10 Network would play any of those games. Thanks everyone who responded. (Didn't really mean to start a fight here-good discussion though. That's what's neat about this board-all of the differing opinions but in the end we all love Husker football!)

  14. Look you two, offseason just began, and we're already getting into message board scrapes.

Let me leave it at this: while ESPN Classic may show the occasional NU win, they sure do show a f*** ton of losses for one of the top five programs in college football history with the most wins.

Don't you think there's something wrong with that?

Thank You! Yes, I do! That's why I said that originally.

  15. If the D doesn't skip a beat, and we're knocking the a$$ off of people, and the offense doesn't go "full retard", then yeah, we'll be a load. Not sure if it's a top 10 kind of load, I'll let you know after breakfast

Hey! Pick another phase to describe the offense. Using the 'R' word offends greatly (I work with mentally challenged kiddos :) Thanks!

  16. Pretty simple stuff. Which game are you most interested in watching? Why?

I'll start. It's pretty obvious, but I'm most interested in seeing Ohio State. We figure to be competitive in the Big 10, but the Buckeyes have been the class of the conference several years in a row. Measuring ourselves against the best the Big 10 has to offer, on our home turf, seems awfully exciting to me. I can't wait to see Jim Tressel and those iconic helmets on the west sideline. It'll be a hell of a show, and I'll be there, you can bet your bottom dollar.

I was really torn on this poll. My initial response was Ohio St. I would just love to see what we can do against them. Frankly, I think we can beat them. But I voted for Iowa because it will be fun. It will be the first 'Farmageddon'!

  17. I would imagine that the Big Ten Network will try to show Nebraska in a very positive light so most of the old Husker games shown will be wins, but they may show some classics that we lost too. (1984 OB vs Miami and 1994 OB vs FSU come to mind) If they do it's not some vast Big Ten conspiracy against Nebraska. As of July 1 Nebraska will officially be part of the Big Ten Brand and from what I can see they protect the hell out of that brand.

I really hope they don't show that 84 Miami game. ESPNU has run that game into ground. I want to watch those games where we blew out the competition (95 season!) those games are so much fun to watch.

    Ladyhawke,

I wholeheartedly agree, that game is painful. Let me approach this from a different angle. If you were introducing an entire fan base to Husker Football wouldn't that game, the 94 OB vs. FSU and some of the OU losses help to better understand Husker football? I know we hate to see those games, but shouldn't we also be proud of those games that have helped NU be what they have become? I'd argue the 92 OB where we got throttled by Miami is one to discuss about Husker football lore because that was really the final straw for TO to change what he was doing and the type of player he was recruiting and combined with the 94 OB set us up for 3 NC's in 4 years. We didn't just stumble into the 94, 95 and 97 seasons that was a man that had tremendous success changing what he did to let his teams get better. The 84 OB cemented TO's legacy.

Ahh, who knows maybe that just makes sense to me. :rant

Thanks so much for that perspective. I've never considered the loses from that point of view. Thanks :) (It DOES make sense!!)

  19. I was thinking that now that we are part of the Big 10, will this network show any of the archived NU games? The only NU games ESPNU would usually show were the ones where we lost. It would be great to see all of the great ones, especially the championship season games. I know you can buy them on DVD but it would be cool for the rest of the Big 10 to see them.

Anyone have an info on the way the Big 10 Network will work?

  20. New Husker sports site I would throw out for all to see its from the athletic department.

Its got blogs and links from other sites on their. Looks like a one stop shop, other than huskerboard.

    This is Nebraska

Wow. Whenever I think I can't take 'no football until the spring game' and then none until the fall, I'll just go to this site and watch the football clip. Nice job.
