  1. Gray matter began to ooze into the picture shortly before Pelini's midafternoon teleconference, when new Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson, during his own signing day news conference, revealed that Hoosiers assistant coach Corey Raymond was leaving to coach the secondary at Nebraska.

So what becomes of Marvin Sanders? His work with the Nebraska secondary has been exemplary. He coached arguably the best secondary in the nation this past season. However, two sources told me recently that Sanders may face disciplinary action by the school for a nonfootball issue. Asked if NU had taken any action against Sanders, athletic director Tom Osborne said at the time he didn't have any information.

    LINK

Sorry if already posted. I didn't see anything with a quick look.

Thanks for posting the link. Again, I thought Bo handled the presser just fine. He talked about the recruits and the recruiting process. When asked about coaching changes he said this is not the time or place but that he WOULD address that issue at a later time. I guess I don't know why everyone has their panties in a twist over this (no offense zoogies-just agree to disagree because I like what you write and encourage you to carry on! You've done great things on this board. Keep up the great work!) I think it was uncomfortable for the press because they came to the meeting with a different agenda-they had hot news from Kevin Wilson and by gosh they were going to get some answers. I can appreciate their wanting to know everything about that issue but Bo wasn't going to budge. However, they pushed him into a corner and he starting tripping up. I think maybe that's what's bothering everyone.

  2. I think Dirk's first question specifically mentioned Wilson, and Wilson's comments were again brought up in detail later in the presser. Bo's most sweeping statements about no staff changes also came later, but I suppose at that time you could say he was being consistent.

In any case, regardless of whether he knew the cat was let out of the bag by someone else or not, it's a good example of why it's better not to mislead. Just say nothing and the whole issue would not exist.

I had an opposite take. I don't understand why the media, who were told before the meeting that Bo wouldn't be addressing coaching changes, kept harping on him about coaching changes. Say what you will about the media 'doing their job' but he did tell them in advance, of the press conference agenda. Why do they insist on pressuring the guy to go against what he planned to say? Bo did TRY to not say anything but it's like a little kid who keeps whining about getting a toy after you've told him a dozen times NO, you sometimes break down and say OK already.

Bo was trying to make this about those boys but the media was fighting him almost the whole time. If anyone took away from making this a special time it was the media-not Bo. Why didn't they ask more questions about the recruits? It almost seemed like they cam only prepared to pepper Bo with questions about coaching changes. What about those kids? Good grief! I couldn't believe that they had come so ill prepared when they knew the agenda weeks in advance.

I really don't think this press conference is going to make or break our program. Bo has a ton on his plate right now and not giving the media the kind of press conference that they wanted is the least of his worries. Getting his team ready for the fall season is his first priority. Come fall this press conference will merely be a faded memory in the minds of many. Just my take :)

  3. I'd like to add one other thing, and that is this.

If Bo truly believes that it would be better served for all parties involved to address the issue at a later time––and such would probably be the case if you were looking at multiple staff changes––that's FINE. The problem is he says he's not going to answer the questions, then starts answering them anyway by contradicting reputable reports. I mean, for a strategic mind like his, where's his sense?

"Bo, what about what the Indiana coach is saying?"

"No comment. All staff issues will be addressed in the coming weeks."

    Boom. Done.

Just for a moment let's suppose he did just as you suggested. Would it have been done? Or would it start a whole new parade of conjectures/rumor/et al? Hmmmm.. Interesting to consider though. When I hear someone say, 'No Comment' I'm thinking He/She DOES know something, they're just not saying!

This is just me but I'm wondering if everything is not in stone yet? Maybe Bo doesn't know for sure if this person is going to take the job OR Bo is just pulling the media's chain. They've pulled his many a time-is it payback? Is he still dancing on thin ice from the Martinez fiasco from last season? Or maybe it's a power play on his part and HE is going to control this teleconference no matter what? For some control is a powerful tool??

  4. Does anyone know what the coaches ask the recruits or tell the recruits? (If this has already been discussed please direct me to past posts.)

If they only talk about the positions, what NU has to offer with regards to playing time, academics, UNL as a campus, etc. but don't discuss WHO will coach them then the staff wouldn't have to comment on specific coaches that will be coaching their sons.

    Just curious

  5. Atta boy Dirk I knew you'd screw this up

Why hate on a reporter for asking the question that everyone is wondering? Like it or not, Bo can't just decide which questions can and can't be asked of him. Any real reporter worth his salt wouldn't let the person getting interviewed get away with that. You can't make him answer the question, but he sure as hell can't keep you from asking the question. It's not like Dirk is disrespectful in the way he asks the question. I say good for Dirk for not cowering to Bo like everyone else.

But didn't you think it made those reporters who asked coaching questions look like jerks? Bo told everyone before hand that he was only responding to recruiting questions then a couple of reporters asked about coaching changes. What part of 'I'm not going to discuss coaching changes during this time' do you not get? That's how it came off to me.

I think that Bo IS going to make coaching changes. He said that there would be a time to discuss that topic but it wasn't now. He might not have fired any coaches or hired anyone right now but whose contract wasn't renewed or who left on their own accord?

I think Bo was much more relaxed doing the teleconference versus a live conference with people breathing down his neck.

    Just my take :)

  6. How come no one wants to address the 2000 lb elephant in the room. WHere is Dick C. from the World Herald when ya need him

If you're referring to the rumored coaching changes, Bo said last night he'd only discuss Signing day and the recruiting class.

That being said, I'm just waiting for someone to bring it up... Wonder what treatment that first brave guy will meet.

One guy tried and Bo said, 'I'm not discussing anything but recruits today. We will discuss your question at another time.' Bo also said that he has not hired any new coaches. It's funny how this one guy tried to get Bo to talk about what he doesn't want to talk about (coaches) by saying, 'Have any of the recruits been told about any coaching changes.' Bo saw right through that.

I like Bo's manner. He's answering the questions well, even when people try to trip him up.

  7. ENOUGH!!!

    but seriously...

enough. Bo's not coming onto the board between now and the "surprise". We have our theories, can't we just wait and see what happens?

NO!!!! I refuse to let this comedic thread of epic proportions die. The name calling and cat fighting of those trying to puff their chest out and provide their "inside info" and the others kicking them down a peg or two is just what I need on this frigid day.

All you young bucks keep on truckin. There is no way this thread dies. I will personally bump it to the topof the page every 15 minutes if necessary.

    EPIC

What if the surprise is that Bubba Starling finally made his decision and it's to play Husker Football? Now THAT would be a great surprise!

  8. The big suprise is Watson & Gilmore are going on double secret probation.

That means Watson will get pissed, take Flounder's car out on an all night bender, and trash it. Dean Wormer will tell Watson & Gilmore are going to be expelled, so they turn Flounders car into the "Deathmobile" and crash it into the Pelini's Bocci court...

This thread is better than a soap opera!! lol (By the way 'walksalone' I crack up every time I read your General Mattis quote-So true and TOO FUNNY!)

  9. Wow. Im gone for 4 days and supposedly theirs gonna be a big surprise on Wednesday. :bs: The unscheduled team meeting was prob for the fact the 3 husker players have had DUI's in the last 7 weeks. Bo or whoever probably called a meeting to refresh the players of what the expectations are for them while they are student athletes.

Nothing to see here, now back to basketball season.

That's what Kevin and Michael alluded to on 1620 the Zone this afternoon (DUI's) as I slid home from work. They said that if someone had been fired they would've already heard about it and they had heard nothin'.

  10. No to changing the song.

I agree-Sirius is part of the Husker identity. As soon as you hear it you can see the Huskers coming out of the tunnel in your minds eye whether you're in the stadium or not. I vote no to changing the song too.

  11. How do you think our boys did? I only got to watch the last few minutes of the game but loved that hit Nile Paul got! I also got to see Alex Henry kick a field goal then punt. I also saw another kicker from the North team kick a field goal and he missed it! I thought: "Sheesh! You have the most accurate field goal kicker in NCAA history on your team and you don't use him???' What's up with that!

Anyway, wondered how you all thought our kids did overall.

  12. How did you think our guys did? I didn't get to watch much of it but I did see that great hit Nile (Paul) got towards the end of the game, saw Alex kick a field goal and punt once then saw another person kick for the North and missed it. I thought, 'Sheesh! He's got the most accurate kicker in NCAA history on his team and he puts in someone else?'

Pierre Allen didn't have his finest game. He had two personal fouls called on him. Not good.

What did the rest of you think?

  13. I wish him luck, I assume that most never thought he'd end up in but what the heck it's nice to have him as a possablity and I think the coaches have proceeded as if he is a long shot.

I thought this quote was interesting: "I do know this," Diener said, "He doesn't like people telling him that he's not going to play football."

  14. There isn't much to this but

    a. I'd never met him before and I've wanted to for 20+ years

    b. I'm still really hyper so I have to post it :P

I live off campus and I was walking to school and this thin tall older man walked out of a store, but I only saw his back at first so my first thought was "He looks a lot like Tom Osborne." But you don't expect to see him walking around. At least, I don't. So I didn't really think it was him, and I was too scared to say anything in case it was just some random guy. But then I saw his reflection in a shop window and since his profile is easy to recognize I was certain :)

I probably wouldn't have said anything but there was no one within a block of us so it wasn't going to draw a bunch of attention, so I said "Hi, Tom" and he asked me how I was doing :D

Thanks for sharing your story. I met TO at a TeamMates event one time. I said, 'Hey Coach, I hear you like to fish sometimes.' He said that he did and then he and my husband started talking about fishing! It was great. (I don't think you need to worry about what to call him. :)

  15. 1620 dropped espn. as most of you know, schick n nick are now 8-11, then jim rome, then kevin and mike.

i myself like colin a little more than jim. i like rome, but colin i find more amusing.

the question is, who do you like/hate more and why? be honest and give details.

The reason I can't stand Colin Cowpoop is because he dissed the Huskers. He said something to the effect that he just couldn't STAND all those years that the those Huskers were so great and played that power option-it never did prepare those boys for the NFL. Yet, some of the greatest NFL players have been from Nebraska and learned under the author of the power option-TO. So, to not have to listen to his drivel ever again is a blessing. I just turned him off anyway so it really doesn't matter.

I'm sorry but once you crap on our boys I lose all respect. I don't really care about either espn or fox sports-the local shows are the best. Unsportsman Like Conduct is a hoot.

Anyone know the real reason why 1620 and ESPN parted ways? Was it about cost? Interesting.

  16. http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/highereducation/entries/2011/01/19/ut_espn_reach_20year_300_milli.html

The University of Texas has struck a 20-year, $300 million deal with ESPN for a new, 24-hour network that will broadcast Longhorn sports and some non-athletic content such as campus musical performances.

They'll get their share of the B12 moneys which will be anywhere from 15-20 million and now an estimated 12.5 million from Bevo TV. But what this really does is weaken the B12 TV deal next time it is negotiated. ESPN will already have the rights to Texas and besides OU there really isn't a TV draw left. This will totally screw the B12 and any chance they could have a B12 network. This is why they wouldn't sign their TV rights over to the B12. I look for them to go independent in the next 2-5 years now and screw the B12 even more.

I hope KU's talks with the Big East continue and they get to say "see ya" on their own terms.

No surprise here. I'm sure Dr. Tom saw this coming a mile away.

  17. Analysts must be running out of things to talk about. All this talk about how fairley is as good if not better than suh has to be a joke right?!? Has the college football world gone mad? This is as bad as comparing McCoy to suh...

We'll get to see how good this kid turns out to be next year in the NFL. Suh has already established himself in the NFL as a play maker (and in his rookie year no less!) on the field and a role model off the field.
