  1. Pelini will kick Hawkin's butt. If not on the field then off. In my gut, I have the very same feeling about Pellini as I did about Solich. Not good, not good at all. He has all the appearance of a "discount" coaching hire.
  2. The man is a genius. He was an excellent football coach, but that's the extent of it. He's 0-1 in terms of hiring head coaches. I hope this time he makes a better selection than he did last time. His last hire put us where we are today.
  3. I concur with your thoughts. I really did not think that Pellini was a serious possibility, but now it looks more likely. I'm not necessarily on board with the idea that Osborne will make a sound decision . . . after all, he is 0-1 when it comes to selecting head coaches. Pellini has never headed up a program before, and this is looking more and more like Solich revisted. Question: I heard this asked yesterday on 1620, and I thought it was a provocative question. If Scott Frost would have had the same resume as Turner Gill, would he have been more readily selected? This is a very uncomfortable thing, but is Gill going to be rejected based upon the color of his skin? They are crazy about him at Buffalo.
  4. Agreed. I'm thinking that there may be at least one more interview to go . . . but, more than likely, contract details are probably still being worked out. I'm thinking Gill; Pellini seems highly unlikely, given Osborne's personality (or, lack thereof).
  5. I'm bound to be right about one of these, and then I will be crowned Winner of the Internets! Careful. The last time I tried to be clever, I was sent to the BS forum.
  6. WTF?? By the way, since when did athletic directors hire offensive and defensive coordinators for the new head coach? That seems a bit amiss . . .
  7. As many of you know, I didn't want a coaching change. It wasn't that I was enamored of Callahan or anything, but I didn't want to see NU go through another wrenching 3-4 years of turmoil. That Colorado game just did it for me, though. It all just got too weird. I've never, ever seen anything like it. I'm still scratching my head and wondering. I even reached the point of wondering if certain players were intentionally undermining the program--the defense looked so bad, so nasty, I couldn't imagine how that could just be from poor coaching. And some of those players just didn't seem to be playing. All that doesn't matter, though--because if a coach lets a team get to that point, there is a problem with management. And the HC is the manager, and is ultimately responsible. I'm still not sure what happened, but thank God he's gone. I hope he does well elsewhere, but it sure didn't work out at NU.
  8. You know, Prince might have gotten himself into trouble with his juco and 5-star recruits . . . much like Callahan did. You have to think that the 4- and 5-year QB's at KSU aren't too impressed with Princes preordination of Freeman.
  9. The reports that I've read is that Osborne and Perlman interviewed Bo in Baton Rouge, then flew to Atlanta for the other interview(s). Otherwise they would have simply met Bo in Atlanta instead of picking him up like a carpool. I'm guessing the reason for that is to not take Bo away from his SEC championship preparations. So, Pellini boarded the plane for an interview, and then debarked before it left for Atlanta? Sorry, but the story wasn't clear on that. A speedy hire (of any good collegiate coach) would be great for the Huskers, though. Maybe we can get some of those recruits back on board.
  10. Yeah, everyone will want to fire Pellini, and I'll be the last "apologist" that holds out for keeping him. I can see it already. LOL
  11. I have to think that if Pellini accompanied Osborne on the flight to Atlanta, that Pellini is the new head coach. Does that sound right?
  12. Well, that's pretty interesting. MK . . . is he up to date on the state of modern college football though? Recruiting, offenses, administration has all changed a lot since he was in it . . . I have fond memories of him, though.
  13. Gotta agree there. I think that Gill is on the fast track in the coaching world . . . it didn't take very long for him to get a HC position, and I have to believe that he would never, ever take a step backword. Having said that, I hope that isn't an issue, because he might make a pretty darned decent HC at Nebraska. I'd give him the edge over Pellini because (1) he's already been a head coach at a program, (2) he has shown the ability to be a fine recruiter, and (3) he's a classy dude. Pellini hasn't proven any of those yet, although he might be fine as well. He's more of an unknown, though.
  14. You're right. I'd sure hate to be negative on this board! (Sarcasm intended)
  15. I think that Bo Ruud did everything in his power to undo the coaching staff. Since he was a legacy player, and since his family practically run the boosters, he could not be benched. He took advantage of it, and followed some bad advice. He never offered leadership, even as a captain. If you disagree, then explain it. I'm dead serious about this. I've watched him at games and on film all season. You watch it, and tell me what you think. It was wicked, man. He walked through half of the plays.
  16. This has been the most bizarre, inexplicable season imaginable. Somehow, I think that it all went far, far beyond simple coaching and football players. Something was going on.
  17. No, Tom Osborne is actually a liar. But a very kindly, grandfatherly liar . . . sort of like Ronald Reagan.
  18. As noted on one of the radio talk shows today, Bo has interviewed else where, and blown those interviews. It is possible that he could do that again. Either one is fine with me. Pellini as a head coach would make NU almost as classy as Missouri! LOL
  19. Those weren't predictions . . . they were plans.
  20. Pellini would certainly fix the defense. He's been known to hold opponents to under 55 points at times.
  21. Yes. He would do that. That's why he has blackballed the Husker team since Solich was fired, and that's why he's been working and waiting for the opportunity to get rid of Callahan. He is very, very close to the Ruud family, you know. The web is expansive. I can't wait for the book. It would not surprise me in the least. The ghost of Osborne haunts us still.
  22. punctuation, dude...punctuation. paragraph breaks--and paragraph breaks are good. To slow it down for you Bo Pellini has been contacted by an agent on the current coaching position that has just opened up. Turner Gill has been contacted by the media only about the job at nebraska after his last game saturday afternoon his reply was time will tell. Brian Kelly is in the running has not been contacted but as reported his contract would cost 2 million to buy out before Jan 1,2008 and only 1 million afterwards but he is negotiating with his current team and michigan is also looking at him. The two top candiates would have to be Turner Gill or Bo Pellni cause as reported earlier in the to get all the assistants on current staff and Callahan and Peterson its gonna cost over 10 million dollars to do so. I heard that Frank Solich has been offered the position.
  23. No some of us are just being realistic. No way to gauge who will be where UNTIL we have a HC hired. I think that there is a boatload of talent, no doubt about it. Now we just have to hope that the talent matches the new coach--if it doesn't, there will be more sh!t hitting the fan for three or four years. The excuse of Players matching the system is just that. It was used to buy time the lest 4 years. A Kid can either play or he can't. A Kid can Run, Block and Tackle or he can't. If he can't than it is the Coaching staffs job to teach him. If Nebraska has the speed to compete and the Coaches can get them to play hard, they will be in a Bowl game next year. I was referring to team attitude, not talent. If new players and jucos are brought in for "instant success" in a new system, the same thing will happen. Player sabotage.
