  1. Bo has never been Head Coach. Gill has been a head coach for two years!! I really doubt the integrity of the Gill is lazy rumor. It just doesn't fit his MO. One of the comments made on 1620 this afternoon was that the boys feel he's already, in Osborne's mind, been chosen. They said that they could see Turner coming on board as the Head Coach and Osborne being his mentor, like Devany was for Osborne. I am perfectly comfortable with that. I continue to hear the 'Gill isn't ready' but no one has yet said why. I think he's just as ready, if not more, than Bo Pelini. Bo's only ever coached the defense. He doesn't have any experience with the day to day overall running of a the entire football team...Gill has that experience. I think he'll be the one. We'll all find out in a couple of weeks. Go Big Red! TLS2
  2. (Moderator: If this post should've been placed on the Rumorville site, please feel free to move it-I wasn't sure as the information I shared here is factual.) I heard about this tidbit on Bo Pelini on 1620 'The Zone' this afternoon and looked the quote up. It was by Kirk Bohls a writer for the American Statesman Staff (Austin Texas newspaper) The article was about who would be the next head coach at A&M. This is what he said about Pelini: "LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini's emotional, but doesn't like recruiting and isn't very media-friendly. Let Nebraska make that mistake." http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp.../1106bohls.html THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M AFRAID OF and why I don't want Bo Pelini to be the next head coach for Nebraska. HIRE TURNER GILL! (According to the boys at 1620-they believe that Osborne has already decided and Turner is the guy....we shall see!)
  3. There has been alot of discussion lately as to why we are picking particular candidates for head coach at NU (i.e. Pelini over Gill, Gill over Pelini just to name a few) I am curious to know what kind of standards/criteria you would list as essential in picking a new head coach. What are the 'must haves'? Here are a few of my 'must haves' *Excellent Character (vs being a 'character') *Experience *Has knowledge of and embraces the Culture they're going in to (Knowledge is not enough! I believe the current staff had some knowledge of our history but never really embraced the Husker culture. I really feel that Callahan had no idea what he was getting himself into when he came here.) *Natural Motivator *Good Communication skills (KEY!!) *Good Strategist *Passion for the Game *Must wear Husker Red at all press conferences! (Just kidding! Although in my opinion, not wearing the school colors communicates to me that this person has not embraced the Husker Culture.)
  4. I hope he takes all the time he needs. The last thing we need is a hasty decision. We have to face the facts that we are already losing recruiting time (i.e. During the bye week who will recruit? I understand that the bye week is one of the most important recruiting times during the year. Since our staff is on the hot seat and don't know whether they will be back or not what can they say to the recruits?) However, I agree that we already have some great players already. There are also recruits coming in. Yes, we've lost a few but I don't really want recruits who are just coming here to play for a particular coach. I want to see kids come here who love the game of football and want to play regardless of who the coach is. I also don't care if they have 'stars' coming out of the ying yang. We've already seen that those recruits that have been 'labeled' don't always pan out. Give me a walk on with passion for the game who isn't carrying around a gigantic ego and I'll show you a player that can be molded to be a winner. We've seen that time and time again here at Nebraska. Take your time Tom. We are behind you!
  5. I really like Turner Gill and all he did for this program, but i just have a lot of doubts. You are right that the he is not ready talk is one the only thing that keeps popping up. But can you give me some good reasons of why he should be the head coach, besides of the tradition factor and what he did at Buffaloe. Dont get me wrong we need a lot of tradition restored, but we can trust that tradition alone will get us there. ***Thank you for giving some interesting insight. I appreciate it. I would rather have Pelini instead of Gill because I really do think Pelini is more prepared to be a head coach. Bo has been second in command on three teams (NU, OK, and LSU) LSU is in the middle of a title hunt right now, while Buffaloe isnt even really hunting for the MAC championship. I think is much easier to take a terrible team and make them decent and much harder to make a great team play great. ***I agree but Pelini has never had any Head Coaching experience. But perhaps a better question to ask would be, what DOES make a good head coach? What criteria can one base this decision on? Another thing that makes Pelini very atractive is the connections he has in coaching. Just think if he could get Mike Stoops as our DC, now that would be freaking sweet. His brother Karl Pelini is a good coach who would probably get a job. ****Mike Stoops is at University of Arizona right now. Here's what I recently read about him: "Rumors about Stoops losing his job started after Arizona lost to Stanford to fall to 2-6 on the season, but the Wildcats have won two in a row." So is he really that good? I don't know anything about Bo's brother. Pelini is the ultimate motivator which is what we need right now at NU, I think Gill is more like TO in that he is calm and collected and isnt going to get real excited. But right now i think we need somebody who will get some fire in these kids. ****I think if any reason keeps me off the Pelini Band wagon it's the issue of his passion. Passion for the game is one thing but the last thing we need is a coach who is unable to keep his emotions at check. We've been embarrassed enough without having to go through anymore embarrassment. Now, Bo has probably grown since he left Nebraska, I'll give him that. So this may be a moot point, but I have to tell you this issue is the one reason why I'm not on the Pelini bandwagon. Pelini also has the NFL card to play to recruits, but he is proven in college. I think that was one of Callahan's biggest recruiting tools and i think Pelini can use the fact that he has coached for the 49ers, New England and Green Bay. ***Gill also has an NFL card (In 2005, Gill was hired by the Green Bay Packers as Director of Player Development to help players become acclimated to playing professional football in Green Bay and to direct players to resources concerning community involvement, continuing education, financial management, and retirement planning.) so I'm sure he too has contacts in that area. Gill also is proven in college (After spending a season each at North Texas University and Southern Methodist University, Gill returned once again to Nebraska, where he coached quarterbacks from 1992-2003 and wide receivers in 2004.) The fact that he is an African American coach is also a draw for many recruits. My ultimate dream team would be Pelini as head coach, Mike Stoops as DC, somehow TO talks Turner Gill into being our OC (which i think would be a step up from the Buffaloe job), and a mix of Pelini's guys, husker guys and a few guys from the current staff as our assistants. Now would be sweet!!! ***I think we're both after the same thing. The ultimate package for Nebraska. May the best man win and I am confident that TO will make a wise decision. Thanks again for taking the time to talk about this issue. I appreciate it.
  6. ?Callahan has said that he will not resign and Osborne has said that he will not fire. So we are in a stalemate until the postseason." ***Right...I think I said that very thing in the original post. So why did you feel the need to repeat it here? Do you live in a cave or just a real poor listener? ***What's your point? It appears to me that perhaps you need to take time to re-read what was written originally because your little outburst here doesn't make any sense. Oh and by the way, I live in a split level entry and I'm an excellent listener. That comment didn't seem to make sense to me nor was it appreciated.
  7. I don't think we have to worry about that. I've read in a couple of resources that the current Assistant AD, Paul Meyer, is being groomed to take TO's place once he retires. Paul is perfect for the job. He was a former Nebraska coach and player as well as the key to much of the big donations that have come in to the university. When Pederson fired him, that was probably the 'straw that broke the camel's back' and most likely led to Pederson's demise.
  8. I second that. I've read, 'No Turner Gill' but never give a reason why he wouldn't be a head coach. All I hear is that same old lamo, 'He's not ready.' He's been a head coach for 2 years already...what would make him 'more ready'? I'm tired of that excuse. There really isn't a logical reason for not having Turner Gill as our next Head Coach.
  9. Oh Puhleeze! On what planet??? Craig Bohl was fired by Frank Solich when Bohl was a coach here before! Why in the world would we give him a Head Coaching job when he couldn't even do his job the first time!
  10. That their sources say that Turner Gill will probably be the next coach for NU. They said that a source close to the coaching search program....Interesting...I have a feeling that TO has been evaluating all along. They said that the story out of Lincoln is that the announcement will happen during the by week. I wonder who their source is because we all know that TO has said repeatedly that he will not evaluate Callahan until after the season. The end of the season is after the CU game or if we happen to beat KState and CU then go to a bowl...will it be after the bowl game???
  11. HE WHO WILL NOT BE NAMED! WHOOOHHAAAA! lol
  12. Saw this on KFAB online this morning: http://www.kfab.com/cc-common/mainheadline...article=2889307 Rose Ends Football Broadcasts Jim Rose announced Tuesday morning he would no longer be the play-by-play announcer for Nebraska Husker football games. Tuesday, November 6, 2007 During Newsradio 1110 KFAB's "Good Morning Show," Rose explained that he is stepping down as the "voice of the Huskers" immediately. Rose has called the games for six years. Rose said the job as the voice of the Huskers was rewarding, exciting and thrilling, but he had lost touch with important things in his life.
  13. Pavelka sucked something awful. I have no problem with Jim Rose, at least he can describe the action. On what planet?? Pavelka knew Nebraska football. With Rose you have no idea what is going on with the game. He calls it as if he's watching tv instead of actually watching the game!! But the thing I dislike the most about Rose's play calling is that you have no idea which team he is representing. Even when Nebraska was losing Pavelka stayed positive and excited. Once Nebraska gets behind Rose starts spouting the greatness of the other team. Then when Nebraska does score Rose calls it in a bored, monotone. I would like to see Pavelka come back along with Adrian Feala, Matt Davison and Kevin Kugler. Kevin's awfully busy these days though so I don't see him taking that job.
  14. If you have a membership to Rivals.com or Husker Sports Illustrated you can get on to their message board. There they have a thread entitled: "Callahan addresses his future on Monday's Big 12 Conference Call" So if anyone here subscribes to that site could you read that thread and let us know what's going on?
  15. Like I'm enjoying and savoring this infected ingrown toenail that's been bothering me for almost a year. **This too shall pass...we all know it will. HOWEVER, in reading the other posts (i.e. BC & Coz walking right by TO) isn't there anything in their contracts that talk about insubordination? I mean if you or I were not doing our job and dissed the head honcho, we'd be out on our kiesters but quick! You're probably right and it's just Bugeater23 that's having an anticipation problem, but there's also the next recruiting class to think about. The recruits that were drawn to us only because of the Coaching staff should already be history. The sooner the replacement staff can be announced or at least narrowed down, the better some of those recruits can be persuaded back or at least better fitting players based on what offense we run in the future.. can be targeted. **Do we really want recruits who are ONLY going to play for Nebraska because of the coaching staff? I'd rather have a team of local boys who WANT to play for Nebraska because of what NU has to offer not only as a football program but as a university. Think back to our glory days. Those kids WANTED to play. Talk to most kids around here back in those days and they couldn't wait to get that white helmet with the red N on it. It's going to take some time. Again, we've only got a few weeks to wait then we can REALLY have a 'wine & cheese' party! Now back to your fancy wine and cheese party. ***Want a little cheese with that whine? lol (While I try to find a place open on Sundays that sells Ales I can inhale). ***And here's to the Big Red. As Arnold always tells us: WE'LL BE BAACK!
  16. I heard that too and I was just shaking my head!!! I wonder if coaches are like doctors....they all stick together? I think maybe the situation at Nebraska is too close to home for him as maybe this is what happened to him when he was fired at Notre Dame??
  17. ok, genuis. he is old school and has been out of football for many years. just hoping he knows how to cope in this dog eat dog environment that we live in now. not a totally unfounded concern, if you think about how it was back in Tom's day, when he was coaching, lots of things have changed, not just 911. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!??? The man was in Congress for crying out loud! If anyone would be able to cope in a 'dog eat dog' environment it would be him! Besides, he's been on the sidelines watching and waiting. He's NEVER really been out of football. He has continued to watch it and be involved with the coaches that are invovled in it today. He's not some bear that has been hybrinating all these year. If I had confidence in ANYONE to make the right decision for this program it would be in him. I suspect, knowing the kind of man he is, that he has an entire network of people gathering information for him which he gathers information himself, in order to make the best decision possible for this program. He built this NU city. He's not about to make any rash decisions that will tear it down. TLS2
  18. We've heard ALL of this ranting every time we lose. There's only 3 weeks until the CU game is over THEN we will have our decision. Like I said in another post, we don't need a rash decision-we had that when Solich was fired. We need a firm decision with a coaching staff waiting in the wings to be hired. I'm sure all of those decisions are being made as we speak. The best thing we can do right now is wait with some class. Otherwise we're going to be perceived (already are by many other teams in the nation) as a bunch of whiney spoiled cry babies. TLS2
  19. Cheese Louise!!! Keep your pants on!! What do we have before the CU game?? 3 weeks?? We've waited this long 3 more weeks isn't going to kills us! Sheesh! We sound like a bunch of whiny spoiled cry babies! TO has his reasons for waiting. I'm sure that he is doing alot of behind the scenes planning. These things take time. I would much rather have a well thought out decision than a hasty 'bandaid'. We already had that when Frank Solich was fired. The fact of the matter is this: BC & Co. are gone so whether TO fires them tomorrow or makes a decision in 3 weeks it doesn't matter. Any of us who have been around Nebraska football and Dr. Tom long enough, know that he will take care of things. My gosh, he's done so much already! We are on our way back to resuming a first rate program. If we're this impatient now what's it going to be like when we have to wait for weeks and weeks to find out who the new coaching staff will be? Anticipation is a wine that needs to be s-l-o-w-l-y sipped, not chugged like a mug of cheap beer! ENJOY THIS TIME!!!! SAVOR IT!! I can guarentee you it will be WELL worth the wait! GO BIG RED!! TLS2
  20. YEAH!!! BRNG BACK KENT! BRING BACK KENT!
  21. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Keller would've never been as mobile as Ganz was in this game. When Ganz ran it it in for a touchdown I thought to myself, 'Keller would never have done that. He would've been tackled where he stood.' Keller was a moderate quarterback...nothing more, nothing less. For his first time out I thought Joey Ganz did a nice job. It was his first game for crying out loud! Give him a break. I really thought we came out looking pretty good that first quarter. It was the defense that lost this game anyway, not the offense. I'm looking forward to what we will do against Kansas St. They got beat by Iowa St. today and Colorado is losing to Missouri so we shall see. IT AIN'T OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS!! GBR!!!! TLS2
  22. What a revoltin' development THIS is! How I long for NU basketball season to start!
  23. Too old...we need a young guy who will come in and make a difference. I vote Turner Gill. He's known, he's getting alot of attention from the media because of what he's done and is doing in Buffalo.
