  1. This is the whole issue...I don't really care if TO hires and offensive guy. However that bodes the question of the quality coach that will be hired as a DC. Look at the 2 of the prev 3 DC's at NU, Bohl and Coz. The offenses are pretty good but bad Defenses. I'd rather have a great Defensive HC and bring in a pretty good OC. You need to have a good D to win championship's. Your offense doesn't have to be near as good.
  2. Petrino is the only coach I would consider out of Gruden and Ferentz. Ferentz has slipped at Iowa the past few years. And Gruden is a pro coach first. Didn't we already do that experiment and it crashed and burned? No thanks. I agree for the most part, but Gruden is 10 times the coach that Callahan is. Do you remember the super bowl? Gruden left Callahan dumbfounded. All the same, I would like a college coach as our next HC, not a former pro coach. Absolutely. College guys know the game better at the college level than the pro's. Totally different animal.
  3. That doesn't explain the defensive lapses against Delaware St and North Texas. Both of those team's are pretty evenly matched in size w/Navy, yet Navy's D couldn't stop them. I know you like PG, and if Navy's opponent's were all as big as ND's and the outcomes were similar I'd say you have an argument. However because most of their opponent's match evenly to Navy's size you just debunked your own argument.
  4. Bingo! You are absolutely right. All folks have to do is visit some of the LSU boards to know that whether Miles leaves or not that Bo is headed for NU. I have a few friends who are huge LSU fans and they have said that they love Pelini for carrying on what Muschamp started. However they have also said that it's been made clear that BP will be going to NU as HC. Most of the LSU fans besides my friends have already started moving on life after BO, and are hoping they can get Muschamp back if not as DC as HC if Miles does decide to leave. I have two questions: 1. How do the people on LSU's message boards know who TO is going to hire? 2. Why do we want Bo, if they won't take him (he's already there!)? They just know, I'm guessing. Just like we know that Paul Johnson is the most awesome coach yet couldn't beat Ball State, Wake Forest, or Delaware and took 17 OTs to take down a powerhouse ND team. He gives up points. A lot of them. Eight teams have scored more than 30 points on his defense this year. Seven have scored more than 40. North Texas scored 62. Callahan and Cosgrove have done as well. He would get absolutely creamed in the Big XII. He belongs in the WAC, they don't believe in defense there. Navy is giving up over 40pts per game last I looked. Doesn't say much about his choice of DC's.

Why do we want Bo, if they won't take him (he's already there!)? 1) Just like we know Billy C is gone, they know he's coming to NU. 2) They do want him, however since they know he wants to be a HC it's better for them to move on then to bitch and complain that he's leaving. It's like anything in business. You want your employee's to excel and climb the ladder. Of course you don't want them to leave, but you don't want to hold them back either. Same thing here. LSU fans don't want him to leave but they fully understand that he wants to be a HC and wish him well in that endeavour if that's the path he chooses to take. No sense in dwelling on it. That only adds resentment which lead's to never finding any positive in the stuation.
  6. Come talk to me about Paul Johnson when he starts sniffing at the BCS at Navy. No doubt!

  8. Don't read them anymore if it's not funny. That is why this room is aptly called Rumorville. Rumor's have some humorous overtones. It's funny to see what folks come up with. You don't just make up nonsense and call it a rumor. If I started a post claiming that Big Bird was in line to be the HC, would you think it worthy of "Rumorville?" BIG BIRD IS GOING TO BE HEAD COACH???!!! HOLY CRAP! That's how they get started right? Gordon said that Big Bird was going to make Oscar his DC and Bert his OC, Ernie as QB coach.

You don't just make up nonsense and call it a rumor. If I started a post claiming that Big Bird was in line to be the HC, would you think it worthy of "Rumorville?" Yes...because it's just a rumor. A far fetched one...but a rumor nonetheless.

  11. The main thing here is "staying competitive." I believe if NU stays competetive that whoever the next coach is will be here a long time. My definition of competitive is averaging no less than 8 wins a year and staying close in losses. Not getting blown out like we did earlier this year. Also consistently being ranked in the Top 15 (preferably the TOP 10. Baby steps here). If these things happen, NU's new coach will be here a long time and have a few National Title's. NU's situation is unique. We are probably the only school who hasn't had a revolving door so to speak w/HC's (w/the exception of PSU and FSU). Billy C's tenure will be almost 4 years in January. That's not bad. Solich was 6 year's, TO 25 year's and Devaney 11 year's. I do think whoever the hire is should have some sort of Nebraska ties. Whether that's as a former player, a coach, a person born and raised in Nebraska but has never had the opportunity to coach at NU but bleeds Nebraska Red. IMO there are really only 2 viable candidates: Turner Gill and Bo Pelini. Both of whom I believe would be excellent HC's at NU and both of whom I believe would stay for a long time. I know Bo used to coach in the pro's however, I think he love's college football and you always are in charge of your team. You don't have huge ego's to appease w/big $. When you tell a college kid to jump, they say how high. When you tell a pro to jump, they tell you where to stick it. That's why Saban came back, he was tired of trying to manage hig paid crybaby's.
  12. I have only heard of 1 booster who wants to keep Billy C because of his ability to recruit. The changes that are being asked Billy C will never comply with. His agent already made this clear in those negotiations of a buyout. So Billy C will not be around after the CU game.
  13. Don't read them anymore if it's not funny. That is why this room is aptly called Rumorville. Rumor's have some humorous overtones. It's funny to see what folks come up with.
  14. Yes he was quoted as saying he's prepared to offer between $1 mill and 2mill. Hopefully closer to $1 mill. However there is enough money to pay the next HC more than $2 mill if necessary.
  15. Bo is actually not #1 for LSU. I've been having many conversation's w/LSU fans and they said no matter whether Miles leaves or not that Bo is headed to Nebraska. Arkansas is actually trying to get Davis from UNC. Don't worry Bo will be coming to NU.
  16. The fact he walked of the field by himself on Saturday w/o his team speaks volumes for the amount of respect Billy C has for Husker Football. Can we all say 'None'.
  17. He's always had my vote for the Voice of the Husker's.
  18. Uuummm yeah....Buffalo won a whopping 10 games the previous 10 years b4 Gill got there. The fact he's won 6 in 2 year's...pretty damn amazing if you ask me. I'd say you just debunked your own argument.
  19. So are the "proven coaches" of the world they guys who can get hot and win a few games at Cincinnati or UConn in the Big Least or Wake Forest in the anemic football conference that is the ACC? The only guy who impresses me that is being thrown out as a "proven coach" is Paul Johnson, as anyone that can take the mediocre talent at Navy and get that many wins is a decent coach. So unless we woo a coach who's already at a big time school (unlikely, given the decline of Husker football and the difficulty recruiting kids to Nebraska), I would say that Gill, or even Pelini who I'm not a fan of, are both better choices than guys who caught lightning in a bottle at basketball schools. (Again, Paul Johnson excluded, as I'm very impressed with his work.) I have to agree of the proven coaches mentioned Paul Johnson has the best resume. You are right that other's at big name school's like Meyer,Saban,Carroll, B Stoops,Mac Brown, Richt,Tubberville, etc, will not come to Nebraska. So trying to land a big name coach is out of the question. Besides If you don't understand Nebraska History and Tradition which we fans rest our laurels on, then we'll end up getting another Billy C. We can ill afford that. However all this being said, I'm a big fan of both Pelini or Gill. Muschamp not far behind. I'd be willing to take a chance on anyone of those 3 as opposed to anyone else. The other aspect that I think Husker fans are missing is this: Nebraska Football is the biggest business in this state. There are no pro teams to separate loyalties. Which means all our blood, sweet, tears, and money goes into Husker football. Whether that's Fb tickets, books, Shirts, memorbilia, travelling to see the Husker's play, purchasing PPV, etc. Husker FBall is big business. With all this in mind the HC of Nebraska has to know it,love it,live it, and die by it. If not, such as in Billy C's case you end up failing. Nebraska is very unique in this way. That's why they say "There is no place like Nebraska.:
  20. That is because Pelini is the hottest commodity out there. The athletic dept knows that tradition start's w/the 'D' and it's in a bad state of disarray. Defense is the highest priority to fix. The Offense has been anemic at times but overall is ranked 18th in the country, and you don't need a stellar O to win the NC. You do however need a great 'D' to be in the elite again. Seeing the 'D' is the highest priority, you need to then hire a defensive minded HC.
  21. I'm going to go ahead and say that this rumor is bullsh#t. It appears that way, since I was told that there would be an announcement today. But the source was one that I trusted. Unfortunately Billy C will never agree to a buyout unless it's for significantly more than what he would get if he was fired. Since that won't happen, we have to put up w/him for 9 more days. Then we will have a new HC.
  22. Nope. Never did want Joe Glenn as NU's HC. Never will. I don't think he would be a good fit for NU.
  23. No way bro. check out the latest link on the LJS. TO will make his decision after the CU game. Not the bowl game. http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2007/1...ce572778562.txt
  24. I think the most important word in here is 'compete'. I don't care whether the new HC has prior experience or not. As long as we are always competing and consistently in or around the Top 10 team's in the country. Also needs to take responsibility for any issues that arise. Don't throw your players or other coaches under the bus.
