  1. I recall there being quite a bit of 'talk' prior to that Orange Bowl about who was better, who was stronger, who was healthier, who had the banged up leg, who had the popped lung, what if either were injured again during the game. Heck, even the announcers during the game mentioned something when Frazier came in to play as I recall... But you're probably right, not so much 'controversy' but more of 'who is better', 'who has a better chance of winning'... So, maybe not 'controversy' but more like we're having now.
  2. Do you really like pie? Or are you just saying that because you saw a pie? I ate a big red candle. "OK, now you're just being silly. You're just naming things you see in the room..."
  3. That's exactly what I've been suggesting and posters say I'm illogical or I need my head examined. Let's say Green starts this saturday throws 3 int's, we lose 5 fumbles and lose 9-7. What's the fricken difference. Give the kid a shot to start if he's terrible and we get blown out it would shut me and other fans up about it. DUUUUUUDES! Hold UP! We forget that we (the fans) may have a vested interest in the game and system, but in all REALITY, our wants / desires really ARE totally secondary to what the coaches / cadre (there, I used that word again) think... The coaches are doing what they are TRAINED to do and that is (despite everything we may believe): play the players that perform the best in practice, evaluate the players in practice and game time, analyze it, compare this all to the opposing team and hope for the best!!! Sometimes you pull a win and sometimes... well you know. I like Lee, I like Green, I think we should play 'em both and I think you'll see both of 'em play real soon-like. Oh yeah, and the other part of the equation is this: When all you're packing is a .22 and you're up against a .44; take a breath, suck it up, be conservative... pick your shots... go with the most effective strategy you can use with that little gun. GBR!
  4. serious question? has a football team ever hit triple digits? Don't know that. I remember getting into the 70's against KSU and I know we COULD have busted more TD's on Florida that year in the NC game...
  5. Yup. TOB has the right idea... and you do too. We ARE hurting as a fan-base. This has been a hurt-ful season, BUT, amidst all the whining, complaining and grousing, I think we're STILL BEHIND this team.
  6. Nostradamus...? Are YOU on these board...? Re-instating the option would be... AWWWWESOME!
  7. NICE reference Cy, but come on! We all know you had already left western Iowa by the time the Donner party came thru so that you could retire in Phoenix and live out your days contemplating under one of them new-fangled kerosene lanterns... Come on, let's hear it... you GOTTA say it and you know you want to: "Why, back in MY day... we didn't have any of them fancy-shmancy things called parity... We played football with the kids we HAD! Why, we used to strap dead freshmen players to our heads for protection! Oh and another thing..." Ain't it great being old and watching college football?
  8. Nebraska absolutely pounds Baylor. It is so bad, NU's offense is arrested, handcuffed, taken from the field in shackles and legally charged with several aggravated assaults for their on-field play... NU's defense lets down and plays poorly... NU: 147, Baylor: 3
  9. My Lord Cy, just how old ARE you? I didn't think anyone could live to BE that old!!! Devaney? Osborne? Was Bill Jennings on board when you were graduating college??? Do you still have your bugeaters game paraphernalia? Did you keep your frizzen pan covered while out hunting passenger pigeons as a youth??? I like your post tho... GO RED or go home!
  10. NU has had QB controversy in the past, Frazier / Berringer is one example that peeks thru the fog... I remember when Matt TURMAN-ATOR had to come in for some games. Was he spectacular? I thought so... Considering what tracks that kid had to fill, I think he was grand! Now, here' we got Zac Lee who knows the offense, but seems to lack some confidence when under pressure. We got an un-tested Green, who likely doesn't 'know' the offense but may have a TON of confidence. I think you divide these two cowboys and let 'em play... Play Green in the 1st quarter, Lee in the 2nd. Is it a gamble, sure... but good LORD who isn't willing to take a gamble at this point? The football Gods are not 'with us' right now. I watched that Iowa State game and I came away from it without ANY bruising on the chest, my couch cushions were virtually undisturbed... BUT, BUT, BUT I did smile and clap my hands every time these NU kids showed their heart. It happened throughout the game. They also showed another 'portion of their anatomy' with the drops and fumbles (oh God, I don't ever want to see those fumbles / drops again. I think I threw up on the 5th, 6th and 8th one, and I'm pretty sure I passed an entire tooth through my urinary tract on one of the fumbles...). ANYway, these last two losses have likely got these young men slinkin' around lower'n whale snot and it is UP TO US as the fans to help them get past this. Yes, the coaches and cadre (you like that: CADRE...?) are paid like royalty to do this, but you know what you've got when you have no FAN-BASE support? You got squat... I hated that Texas Tech game and I hated the Iowa State game, but we gotta stay more supportive. We shall hereinafter be referred to as: The BIG RED ATHLETIC SUPPORTERS! Well, OK, just fans... Go BIGGER Red!!!
  11. Wow HJ, THAT is an odd request... Hmmmm. I don't think I'd go that far... But why a midget? Could it be just someone under 5'2"...? Hey, you're right. Yes, we, as fans, are feeling pretty down and low about our season to this point, but maybe we should just accept the inevitable and get behind these kids, win or lose... I guarantee that they are TRYING to win. Making mistakes? Yes, obviously. Personally, I can see us losing every game here on out... but you KNOW AS FANS we'll hold the hope, yell and scream, swear, crush mufflers, beat our knees, throw heavy stuff and STILL proclaim our fan-dom! I think we have a mixture on offense that is not complimenting our talents, but exploiting our weaknesses. Sometimes, you just can't do NUTHIN' to improve that. Last year, we got better and better each game, this year... not so much. But, we have GOT to support these guys playing for us. You gotta be a fan, win or lose... I'm not saying you're giving up the ghost, and believe me, I feel your pain, but I think this worm COULD turn. Now, you stay away from that teste-slappin' midget fetish and you'll likely save yourself a BUCKET of pain... Go BIG Red!!!!
  12. That's good, I think he will be good for us... Plus, our sidelines NEED more groovy sideburns!
  13. Not all of us have forgotten the CH-CH-CHoke years we groveled thru for many seasons... I started paying attention to NU football in 1970 (I was 6 years old). Not too many games on TV, but listening to my Dad talk the game out. For the longest time, I thought our head coach's name was "that red-headed sonofa-!!!!!". Even back then tho, 95% when NU showed up to play... they PLAYED. Hard. They more often than not WON their contests thru consistent smash-mouth football. I miss the option so bad it kinda makes my heart ache again when I see that terror filled moment of the pitch! OH GOD, NOOOO...!!!! I LOVED those option teams. I remember us being a '4th quarter team', where our conditioning was better than the other guys'... Sure there was lots of misses, lots of FUMBLES (OMG, who remembers our FUMBLING years!!!????!!!!) but there were lots of wins and KNOCK 'EM DOWN football too... It's tough to watch after you've been 'spoilt' I reckon. But THAT's what being a fan is... Getting MAD, being ELATED, being WORRIED, all that... Now, someone go out, find us a Rathman, a Frazier, a Green, a Peter (hmmm, THAT sounded odd huh?), a Schlesinger, a Tagge, a Rodgers... I will say this tho, I kinda like these kids. I think they've got heart and guts, now if we can get some more FIRE out of them, it'll REALLY start to come around... again. GO BIG RED!!!
  14. Good responses... I suppose if he WAS NOT a true fan, then maybe he was just terrified of my hulking beast of a pickup from days gone by, rumbling past him with it's 'dated' GO BIG RED sticker in the back glass. It confused him. Caused him to panic (in fact now that I think about it, I DO think I may have seen a tiny little amber 'squirt' shoot out of him, initially, I thought it was some of his Bud Light dribble, but NOW... hmmmm....)... A non-husker fan COULD be easily confused, easily intimidated by other husker memorabilia approaching them quickly, with little warning like that... OK, starting to make sense now. Thanks guys! GO BIG RED!
  15. Just my musings after an absolutely excruciating dept. head meeting... grrooooaaannn... Anyway, coupla weeks back when we were getting ready to decimate V-Tech, I had a 'chore' to do that afternoon and was moving my '54 Chevy pickup around the block in our small town. I was gonna park it out back and as I passed a neighbor's house I happened to see one of his guests drinkin' a beer in their garage with the garage door open... He was decked out in a HUSKERS sweatshirt and cap. So, what do I do? Well, of COURSE, I throw on the binders and holler out to him (remember my truck is OLD, but it ain't LOUD), "We gonna beat Tech tonight?" Seems like a reasonable question, right? That guy looked at me, like I had just asked if I could rape one of his dogs...! I thought, maybe he thought I said something crazy... So, I repeated it, and just got a head shake, still like I was crazy. Now, a crowd was approaching that door and so I pointed out the guy in the husker gear and said, "Husker guy! We gonna beat Virginia Tech..?" Nothing. So, I tossed the old truck into gear and off I went. It was disturbing to me. I've never EVER met another husker fan that wasn't ready to READILY yak about a game or the team. Now I'm wondering: Do you suppose he was an IMPOSTER???? A poser??? I've had to drink some to get beyond it... Just thought I'd share...
  16. I don't think this is gonna be a blow out... I think it's gonna be a "in the trenches" game... Iowa State is MUCH better than people think. They're well coached and have lots of schemes, no, I doubt our huskers are gonna waltz in, kick some butt, and waltz out...
  17. Good post NP, but how in the name of all that is holy are we ranked THAT high in those rankings...? Can that be right? My Lord, anybody that SAW that game knows that the offense laid a big stinky out on the field Saturday... Not that they can't use this as motivation and kick some butt from here on out, but, wow, those rankings seemed skewed... (skewered?) GO BIG RED!
  18. Come on Doc! 34 touchdowns! That's ridiculous...! 30... MAYBE, but 34??? I have really bad history for heart issues in my family paternally and maternally, my heart could handle 30 touchdowns, but really, going over THAT would likely just kill me...
  19. Some of you may recall my fervor'd (yeah, that CAN't be right...) ramblings about how cranked up I get watching NU play football. I beat my chest, jump up and hit my head on our cathedral ceilings (ok, they're just standard 10 foot ceilings, but if you're drunk and lying on the floor they kinda look cathedral height), jump from couch to love seat in single bounds, clapping so hard that it actually bruises and / or dislocates appendages, you know, the typical husker fan stuff, right? Well, last Saturday I spent that afternoon kind of supine... lolling about from TV to TV hoping the images might change, at times actually lying on the bed watching the debacle over my ample man-belly... Only one clapping 'fit' for our one touchdown. God, that SUCKED! WOW. Bad. The BESTEST news is tho, now I don't have to be QUITE so physical during the rest of our games... I mean, really, all's NU can do from this point forward is improve, right? Good Lord, with that offensive performance display they 'plopped' out there on the field on Saturday, it really CAN'T go anywhere but UP! Initially, I had predicted that NU would win that game 117 to 3. I was off a little... I am in NO way taking ANYTHING away from Texas Tech. They played pretty well, exposed our defense and really exploited our offense.. a lot... repeatedly... over and over... and then again... and once more...and yes, once again. Good God... Here's to hoping this was a learning experience for the coaching staff and the players... I will say this, anyone in our fan-base that thinks that we have ANY 'gimme' games left on this schedule could be SORELY disappointed at the end of the year. After watching as much big 12 team play as I possibly could this year: yeah, if you think Baylor and Iowa State are 'gimme's' for our team, you'd better OD on the koolaid during this week. For our team, we ain't got a weak knee'd sister LEFT on our schedule. Facts is facts... I hate it. GOD, I hate it... Now, ON to the Cyclones and hopefully some DOMINATION!!! GO BIG RED! My score prediction: NU: 177 Iowa St: 7
  20. Whoa. What happened to Griffin...? I missed something...
  21. The best thing I can think regarding Mr. Suh is that I am not a college football QB who is playing AGAINST him as he chases me down like a pit bull overloaded on horse steroids and methamphetamines! That kid's play is pretty tenacious! I wonder if he literally foams at the mouth during play...?
  22. You beat him. You take a softball bat, wrap it in foam insulation and duct tape and you chase Lee around the locker room and you wail on him. He can leave his helmet on, he can have some pads, but the beating is the key... Maybe 10 minutes worth. It's motivational...
  23. I love Husker football... Makes me want to run thru walls and act like I eat steroids and human spleens for a balanced diet... Lots of good points on this post, I think someone (god bless 'em) nailed it when they said that Zac Taylor said he hadn't 'clicked' until mid-season... I remember those seasons, that's accurate. Now, we had a more experienced group offensively back then to help him thru that ratcheting, spinning, missing, first part of his season which equated in bigger wins, so... I'm thinking maybe ol' Mr. Lee comes alive soon. You watch boys, I think these kids have a better belief and understanding of how these games can go... Jeez, I can remember alot of years that if the opponent managed to score FIRST on our Huskers, it was pretty much over... Now, there was a lot of reasons for that but phsychologically (good LORD, is THAT how that's spelled??? That's my best guess...) THESE husker players have an advantage over some of the teams of old in that, they NOW KNOW that it's possible to COME BACK and win as long as your defense has kept you in the game. They learned that from the VT game (arrrrgggghhhhh, where's my nitro...???) and they learned that in this last MU game. Good lessons... I think if Zac Lee goes ahead and grows some mutton chop sideburns (I know, I know, his ol' lady is gonna complain about them...) and keeps playing like he's the lead singer from Motorhead, he'll bring this stuff around. (And yes, that WAS a reference to heavy metal, and yes, I'm ALMOST too old to listen to that stuff nowadays... ALLLLLmost...) GO BIG RED!
  24. Maybe I'm a rabid fan, (good GOD - I KNOW I am), but I remember the early 70"s (now granted I was just a little kid then), the 80's the 90's and what I remember is the ARM FLEXING, banging helmets so hard with their team-mates they'd knock each other down, darn little FINESSE and ALL BRUTE offensive / defensive lines. That kind of FIRE is really what it takes... I'm starting to see it on this team. They may not be BRUTAL yet, but it won't be long and you'll start seeing guys with pieces of opposing teams jerseys in their TEETH, bloodied knuckles, crazy eyes... You know that look you get when you pound your chest after a touchdown and scream, "YEAH! GOD-D%^&M RIGHT it's a TOUCHDOWN! YEAH!" or, your defense knocks the pizz out of an opposing QB time after time (uhhhh, hi Mr. Manning..? May I assist you to the TURF!?!) and you jump up and scream "YEAH!" in a ROAR. THAT is how I remember NU football and it will likely kill me one day in a coronary over-load, but I STILL rip myself off the couch and jump in the air ready to rape GODZILLA whenever those boys slam someone down or bang and rip off an 8 yard run leaving people on their back. I must be rabid, 'cause NO-ONE understands how a fat man like me can still stalk around the living room floor breathing hard, fists clenched, stomping marks in my carpet for 90 minutes on gameday! Sometimes I wonder if them kids EVER KNOW how much heartfelt emotion they invoke in their fan-base... If they did, they'd likely fist fight thru every play... I think I'm starting to see it in this team... Here's to hoping! GO BIG RED!!!
  25. You are correct sir! I see this team kind of like last years team, each game they played they got a little better and little better... I think Mr. Lee has a WHALE of a passing day. But, you're correct, we in the fan-nation, are dying to see it alllllll come together. Like a band of hungry hyena's on the corpse of a cape buffalo, I wanna see some gnawin'... a little swipin'... some rippin'... some divin'... some tearin'... some tail yankin'... some haunch chewin'... I wanna see this team rip somebody a NEW ARSE! I think Saturday might be the day. Here's to Saturday. GO BIG RED!
