  1. I think Ganz... even tho he may very well be the next PRESIDENT OF THE UNTIED STATES, I predict he fullfills his QB duties at NU AND serves as our Commander in Chief. I'm just saying... GBR!
  2. Considering that this kid started as a freshman, played his guts out EVERY play of EVERY game... I think he was a pretty awesome football player. My lord, his freshman year was as good as most SENIORS have! GBR!!!
  3. Holy Mother of Moses! We actually got a skiff of white powdery snow over the weekend and my pheasant hunting 'spot' became a happy place for me again! Jumped 4 roosters outta one spot Sunday around noon and folded one up with a load of #6 shot from my .410 Wingmaster! Nice big rooster for a change. Out here in eastern Kolorado we got to our birds quick before the coyotes and owls do!!! How's the bird chasin' in your neck of the woods? GBR!
  4. Look at it this way... if Mr. Pelini is NOT able to be out recruiting or has not taken FULL HC status yet, doesn't that mean that T.O. would get to recruit? I mean, I don't think THAT's a bad thing... T.O. showing up and doing what he does best and then being able to refer to the NEW head coach he just hired. That might actually work out kinda nice in recruiting, don't ya think?
  5. OK, OK, I found one. and now... I am whole and huskerly again.
  6. OMG HANC... are we breathing and thinking in tandem or...As...One??? Are you hungry for t-bone and bud light right now??? You wrote that piece like you stripped it directly from my cerebral cortex! I couldn't agree more... BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT! If Turner Gill is half the guy I think he is, I would suspect that he would be VERY reluctant to leave Burfullo right now... Jeez, success, up 'n' coming, still young and developing HC skills, WHY in God's name WOULD he want to leave just yet? T.O. taught more than just football skills to all his players, he taught the importance of loyalty. I'd guess T.G.'s response after being asked to interview for NU was, "I would LOVE to, but I got it pretty good in Buffalo right now and the future is so bright I can AFFORD to set pretty". Or something like that... Maybe you could lose the whole 'pretty' part and 'bright future' thing... I guess it's not likely that T.G. was trying to write a Donna Fargo tune with his reponse... but you guys get the picture, right???
  7. Uhhhhhh, has anybody heard if NU hired Bo Pelini or not...?
  8. We are already stacked at QB, unless some of them bail. We need more defensive players than anything. You know what tho? I think if we take a minute and listen to Jason Peter (a defensive monster man who likely STILL haunts the nightmarish dreams of Husker opponents from the 90's) I don't necessarily think we had a bunch of weak players, just a few UNDER-MOTIVATED players on defense. I think you get a FIRE BREATHING defensive coach in there with skills of motivational speech, two good defensive team leaders and WHAM! you got yourself a group of guys that believe again. I watched those defensive giants that worked under Coach T.O. all through the 70's, 80's and 90's and the players played for EACHOTHER, for NU and for their COACHES. It was like watching blood drinking stormtroopers when they played. They had heart and they had drive! They got that initially (and throughout) their coaching sessions and then 'bought into' it and passed it around like a first cigar amongst a group of 5th graders. You watch ANY of those teams play defense from about 1965 to 2002 or so and they LUSTED for the defensive game. They reveled in the QB sack. LIVED for the 'dropped for a loss'. Remember this; much can be accomplished by the dream of one man, if only he can illustrate that dream to his followers. I say we had a good portion of the talent to be MUCH, much better on defense the past couple of years. Not bashing Coach Cosgrove or his assistants, I'm just saying... GO BIG DREAD! Bring back the BLACKSHIRTS!
  9. COME ON! I just got beat out on ebay trying to buy one of those old 'Mr. Ugly' Cornhusker ashtrays that have the Nebraska player in a 3 point stance and growling. Does anyone have an extra or know where I can find one??? I gotta have one! A now ex- family member stole ours back in the 70's and lost / tossed it. The one I lost on ebay sold for about $50 ($48.99). I'd pay that or better for another... HELP me be a man again! Randy
  10. I'm not a stat's guy so much... I think CU beats us, but I am hoping and praying that Ganz and Company and Octavien and Company play like they did against KSU and THAT means, playing ABOVE their heads. The talent seems to be there if it is turned ON, amp'd up and let loose. I would LOVE to blow CU out but what my eyes see is a pretty evenly matched set of teams getting ready to play. GO GANZ!!! GO BIG RED!!!
  11. OK, I gotta say it; JOE GANZ FOR PRESIDENT OF THE FRIGGIN' UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! Joe, you get out there and lead this team to a victory over CU and you WILL be one of the most highly revered Cornhuskers in the history of this team! Now, that being said, I've watched (mostly LISTENED to) alot of Nebraska Football games since I was indoctrinated by my dad in 1970, but Mr. Ganz you friggin' ROCKED last Saturday, you 70's stlyin' - sideburn wearing throwback to Jerry Tagge style QB! Thank YOU sir for restoring some order. Now, go beat CU for me, would ya??? GO BIG RED!
  12. I miss the NU football of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. College football seems to have changed alot since then. I watched this Misouri game Saturday (well, ONCE ESPN was KIND ENUFF to LET ME watch it!) and I think the NU team we saw was as good as they get. I think that was their highest level of play BECAUSE that is the highest level we can currently coach and highest level we can currently recruit. You don't make Big 12 Championship games like this. When we got beat by USC and then came back to a dismal win over Iowa State, I could tell the kids didn't have the fire we once had. Remember how it USED to be when we lost... my GOD! Whoever we played next was generally left battered, bruised and shaken, confused. Not so much anymore. That being said, I will also say that I am proud of all the NU players. I think they've tried hard all season and will continue to try hard for the rest of the season. One thing this team can REALLY be proud of is their ability to RALLY when down (OK, take away Mizzou, that was just a no-win situation). I can remember the days when IF Nebraska was down at any point in the game, it was a good chance that it was over. This team has rallied nicely in several games when evenly matched on the field. To me, Keller is AWESOME. I think our offense is much, much improved over last year. Defense is improved but something ain't quite right there. The kids seem to be faster than last year. Out of position less? WHY are we not seeing improvement then? We can all scream about coaches (I'm not a big fan of where we are right now either) or we can all scream about players (just remember tho, they are KIDS for god's sake, 20 year old KIDS!) but when it comes right down to it, we need to support them and let them work it out. BUT, god dang it!!! I still miss the option! "Tommy's under center, he takes the snap, he rolls right, he pitches (BIG GASP AND PAUSE....).
  13. OK, I'm red... Husker red. I've been guilty for almost 30 years of hoping for the best and expecting the worst. I gotta say, I think this team IS improved, VASTLY, over last years team. I watched the USC game. I saw confused defense, but not confusion EVERY play (improvement over last year). I saw out performed offense (but a more balanced attack and CERTAINLY an improved passing ATTACK and passing game). Yeah, we struggled, but USC is pretty good. I think, I can see enough talent and balance and promise in these young studs that they will go the rest of the season without a loss... WHEW! There, I said it... I'm serious, the only team that will challenge Nebraska MIGHTILY this year will be that juggernaut of OU and Nebraska itself. Lofty expectations? I thought so until I saw that twinkle of talent in Keller's game last Saturday. I think the rest of the year will be, "Holy GOD, where was all that talent hiding???". I predict we win the North BIG AND we play OU in the Big 12 champ game. I saw enuff improvement and 'catching on' to the scheme of defense and the offensive passing game that I have re-gained my hope. That being said, I don't think NU is playing 'west coast offense' football tho... I think it's developing it's own hyper-breed of MID-west football. OK, that being said, I will sit down and shut up now... GBR!
