Long time Rangers fan here. We have thrown money around for years and nothing. Built new stadiums, signed big time players to monster contracts.....nothing. Only happened when they finally decided to put a good skipper in charge. It has been BRUTAL!!

When the season ended with four losses and a thud, I was ready to leave Husker football behind for a bit. Call it a cooling off period until I could get the juices flowing again. And I wasn't going to care about recruiting. And blah, blah, blah. And now, well, here I am waiting for some grand announcement. Sure is funny how we do this to ourselves. But here we go again. Got to love fandom.

I was there too my friend. I swore off of them. Threw away some husker gear, cut up my flag. Guess what? Off season comes and now I am buying all new stuff, reading blogs like the bible and texting everyone I know about what is happening. My kids are like dad "We all know Nebraska is a volleyball school". I started body slamming kids after that statement. Haha! It stung a little to hear that.

  3. Honestly, getting him would be a big win. But any QB we get would be a huge upgrade over what we had last year. I am still liking Purdy. We get some decent lineman on both sides and a QB that doesn't have butter fingers and can at least read part of a defense and make throws, we pick up 3-4 more wins.

I can only imagine the amount of pressure on this kid. My pipes are bursting just reading all the updates. Whoever gets this kid will have him 1, maybe 2 years. Then he will go full blown Kedon Slovis/JT Daniels.

I’m thinking the only fault in the Sims thing is the lack of a QB specific coach. Easily the most important skill specific position. But yet we have a TE coach. I feel for Sims to come in to a highly scrutinized position at a high profile school without a Shepard to guide him. So I guess that’s Rhule fault. But that’s ok-just a misstep in a rebuild season.

So you need a QB coach to tell him to not fumble? Hold onto the ball? That is basic football 101.

  5. Offense looks good. D struggling. We will see if halftime adjustments are made. Why can’t we have a complete game in all three phases. We usually have good O, and defense sucks. Then vice versa. Or, special teams drops crap on the initial roll out. Just put together a complete game. Puuullleeeaaase!!

In the post-game, Rhule said the pass was a corner route which was read by the defender on Coleman who came off him picked off the pass.  Slot corner passes can work great, by design, but the execution on this is poor.

    1) Kemp doesn’t get enough depth in his route which would put him in a 1 on 1 matchup with his defender.

    2) Coleman runs a poor route and doesn’t run a hard slant inside his defender and doesn’t clear enough space for the slot-corner route to work.

    3) Purdy throws a flat pass at the goal line putting it deep in the corner giving Kemp a chance to run under and try for a catch.

This play sums up a lot of what is wrong with the offense.

    1) Kemp hasn’t been healthy to practice much, but they want to throw him into games.  His timing and route-running isn’t as crisp as it should be to be effective.

    2) Fans say “throw in the young WR’s like Coleman so they can get experience” but this route by Coleman shows why he wasn’t getting many reps ahead of more-experienced WR’s earlier in the season. Yeah, Coleman can look great running free in open space against NW, but he dropped a well-thrown ball by Haarberg in the first half, and he ran a poor route on this play. Having to count on young guys will get them experience, but it may also cost NU wins for this year. So fans have to understand both sides.

    3) Fans have been calling for Purdy to get a series in games, what can hurt? Well, he’s not getting many reps in practice. So, yes, he can look good in a few plays, but look confused and not run the offense as called/designed on others. He was confused coming out of the huddle and burned a timeout earlier in the drive. He kept the ball on first and goal, when he was told to handoff. He then throws a poor pass into traffic on 3rd and goal.  With every possession being important, coaches can’t just throw in a guy for a series because they can’t trust to run the offense.

Now, I actually agree that Purdy is the healthier than Haarberg right now, so he should get the first-team reps this week. Sims makes too many mistakes to ever see the field in a meaningful snap.

This. Sims should never play another snap again. He is the worst QB I have ever seen play football on any level.
