  1. Nice post.. Makes me wonder if Callahan would even WANT to come back if he was asked at this point. Probably already planing out his next move and has his family moved out somewhere. Thanks! I don't think he is a quitter though. He may be other things but not that.
  2. If you think calling someone "clueless" is a personal attack worthy of a warning, you should see what's been posted about me - by Freemason, among others - in my brief time here. I didn't see anyone coming to my defense then. I shall not call anyone clueless again, however. Point taken. I agree with you FreeMason was out of line as well. Course he did have more tackles than you. Hey life should be fun. Be Happy all. Some Husker fans didn't wake up today. Hope all of you will for sometime. Yes, we both need to tone it down. I agree with that. I'm not looking for AR to give me a free pass, I'm just thinking the playing field should be level. But I did make my little "pledge," and I plan on sticking to it. No more Mr. Mean Guy from me. Like you said, NM - this should be fun. We are all Husker Fans, so no more bickering for me. Friend we are all in this together. Didn't seem to me that you had to take Juniors crap anymore than mine. We all get a little carried away sometimes but I think calmer heads are needed to make rational decisions don't you Junior? After all your Dad probably would of beaten my Dad up...but being the good Minister my Dad was you'd be the one paying in hell. J/K
  3. If you're a Husker Fan, you would be included in that "WE." We're all in this together. WE may not all have liked all of those decisions, but WE all have to live with them, especially if WE are going to continue to wear that big red N on our shirts/hats/coats/etc. Yes including me. But I understand how dumb the question was. Do you? Callahan isn't leaving one way or the other without some pocket money. If any of you think different then you probably couldn't count the socks or do a soil sample. If WE want him gone WEwill have to fire him. Callahan may be dumb as some have said but his agent isn't. Absolutely. I'm not making excuses for the reporter - that was a first-year-out-of-college question from a veteran reporter. He got the answer he should have gotten from that question. It just seemed by your answer that you were saying you didn't agree with any of those decisions and it was "all the other fans" who were wrong. It struck me as odd since the WE things you were saying were on opposite sides of the fence in the general discussion here. I could be wrong, though. Well I didn't agree with getting rid of Solich and I also believe that if TO had been Athletic Director he would still be here, and probably T. Gill as well. Sanders and Pellini maybe also. I mean would Osborn of forced Solich to make the old timers retire? Don't think so. As for Pederson didn't know much about him honestly but he was a Nebraska man so how could we go wrong? Well experience would tend to say we did as he aleinated the entire state and then some. As for my WE's I can see your point and hope my explanation explains that I'm in the WE. Even those who stand by silently and watch are guilty of being the WE.
  4. That is just ridiculous!!! This was undoubtedly a disturbed individual and in no way should it be ascribed to Pederson or any Husker fan. Regardless of what any of us think about Pederson, he isn't that kind of guy. It's an aberration and nothing more. It is not the act of a Husker fan! Dont get your Knickers bound up ,that was a joke !!!!! Not funny at all..... :asshat This is a serious matter. Don't make light of it!!! I agree. Just goes to show what happens with uncontrolled passion. I would say that some people need to get a life but they might take it that I mean "take a life". Seriously this has all gotten way out of hand.

  7. Hah guess Im as confused as his agent. Lets see the question was: Will he resign? meaning will he walk away from a Million $$$ because he lost games? Duh seems a pretty stupid question to me. Hi Agent Answer: Although I agree tackless does seem like a Forrest Gump answer to a Forrest Gump question. Stupid is as stupid does. IN a nutshell---WE hired him, WE gave him lots of money, WE extended his contract. WE want to get rid of him WE fire him and WE still pay him. AND his agent still gets his cut. WE being the University, WE being all those who wanted Solich replaced, WE being all that wanted Pederson, WE being all those demanding Callahan go. Coaches resign when they get a better deal to move on or get tired and want to retire or disgrace a program which voids his contract clause. NOT when they have a losing record. Just ask Paterno, Bowden, Spurrier, Switzer, Johnson, Carroll or Tom Osborn
  8. Hey thanks to all of you for participating in answering my question I posed. Some actually answered. I liked the "put Tom in a home if he decides to keep Coach Callahan" remark. Not that I agreed to it at all but it did make things interesting. I think its sort of ironic that the rally cry is for a defensive Coach now in Pellini when the crying before was for a pro -style offense. IMO,only, I feel some of our teams faults lie in Callahan recruiting more heavily on offense than defense. Just seems we are well stocked in QB's, RB's, WR's with good players riding the pine whie it seems on defense we are always short on either DL, LB, or DB's depending on the year. My basis for thinking Callahan may still be around next year is because of Tom Osborne. I've read his book "More than Winning" and encourage all of you to do so. Some of the strong points of emphasis Tom is for are 1. running a clean program 2. Discipline as needed while encouraging 3. treating all players the same. 4. Loyalty above all...to the State, players, and Coaches. I have not read anywhere that the players are dismayed by the Coaching staff or wish them to leave. I have not read about any players leaving the team yet because of playing time or because of the Coaching staff. I have read where the players have been affected and dismayed by the fans. Or at least some of them. I have read about recruits leaving because the Coaches may not be here. Some may say good riddance but honestly these are High School kids. I think the JC kids being older are able to understand more about the school and all its good points and badpoints. Fewer decommit anyway. The instate kids are going to stay because they can relate to the school more than the out of state kids. In short I believe Tom will be the Director that Devaney was and will not make rash decisions. He never has and never will. He will not do what others feel is the quick way out. He won't care what is said about himself. He will not knuckle under pressure form loudmouths, money changers, and politicians. He will do what he feels is personally the best thing for the School and the team. He already is. He will talk and discuss his reasonings. If he fires Coach Callahan he will have his reasons and none will be because he wants Turner Gill or Bo Pellini personally. I also feel if he keeps Callahan he will back him and support him and that will take some of the pressure off Callahan to win it all every year. As much as I want it and you want it to happen it is just not going to happen. Tom is a guy who beleives in "more than winning" and if he feels Callahan can fit this creed he might still be around. Hah course I've been wrong before.
  9. Knowing Dr. Tom as well as I do from watching and listening to him through the years I two do not feel he has made the decision to fire or keep Callahan as of yet. I would put the odds close to 50-50 right now. As for Toms recruiting yes he didn't always go for the 5 star but it wasn't because he didn't try for them. Names that come to mind Grant Winstrom, Tommie Frazier, Turner Gill, Nate Turner and the names of those he missed most of which I can't recall recall the names of ; OU QB the year we got Gill and then turned him down since we were only going to take 1 QB that year and then he went on to lead OU to the NC as a Freshman when Aikman went down, Emmitt Smith who played a recruiting game with us, the California QB who wanted to come here but his mom wouldn't sign the papers. I think Tom geniuse was in recruiting players with potential and low stars though. The Steinkhulers, Neil Smith, Trev Alberts, Rathman, half the pipeline thru the years, etc. As for Coaching you don't score 70 points on any Div. 1 team without having some good athletes and being able to Coach. Football is an emotional sport. If you don't have it you cannot perform to the best of your ability. If you have it you can play above your ability.
  10. I'm just wondering what everyone will think if Dr. Tom decides to keep Coach Callahan? I'm not asking for an argument or saying it will happen but I'm just wondering what the talk will be if he does. Given the fact that he is legend at Nebraska if not all college football would you 1. stand behind him and his decision? 2. call for his resignation since he didn't take the popular view or at least your view? 3. turn in your season tickets? 4. become a fan of another team? I think these are honest questions since I would say right now its 50-50. I don't believe Tom has made any decision since I truly feel he is a man of his word. I also believe Tom knows exactly what Callahan is going through right now since he knows more than most how it takes just a few people yelling and screaming and whining to get the masses against you Following Tom, which Callahn and Solich did, cannot be easy. Sort of like Tom following The Bobfather. I also think if Tom backs Callahan the masses will as well or they won't be heard as loud. I wonder if Tom would of been around to win 3 Championships if Bob had not supported him as well as he had. In my saying all of this I'm not saying I'm pleased with all Callahan has done or said. I'm not pleased with the defense either. Greatly discouraged in fact. I also feel that the fans demeanor has also went a long ways in hurting this team. I will also go on record right here and now in saying I trust the Dr. to make the right choice whatever it may be.
  11. Tragedies like this usually bring a family and or team together. Mo will be there one way or the other. Physically or emotionally.
  12. Stories like this reminds me that there is more than Football and more than winning at all costs. I liked Coach Callahans statement on Mo and whats important to him. I know other Coaches would say the same thing but its comforting to know "ours" did. May God Bless you Mo and your family and friends.
  13. I can't believe your truly a fan of the Big Red. Hah we win big against a team who always plays up to us our defense did a fine job even scored a TD and your calling for a firing squad. We are not going to be dominant in every game anymore. Teams who were not dominant this week include USC, OU,Texas,Wisconsin, Penn St, Cal, Oregon, Florida etc etc is fact most of these teams lost. Several lost at home. Each team gave up more points than we did. Compare Iowa St and Cu. Compare Iowa St and K St. I feel to get better we need to stick together not become the issue. If it does become more than you can handle I still need tickets. I mean honestly why do you need them? The games seem to be tearing you up inside. What possible enjoyment can you be getting watching this team? I remember standing and watching the 1990 Fiesta bowl vs Flo. St.. We lost and lost big. I enjoyed just being there rooting for my team while sitting amidst of the FSU fans. They thought I was nuts and I probably am but my son and I told them all we will be back. I don't remember anyone wanting Dr. Tom fired or his staff. I feel the "New" fans, after 1994 arespoiled. Thats when I personally saw Husker fans come out of the woodwork. I remind you I'm not from or in Nebraska but my parents were. I watched the Huskers win it all in 70 and 71 and waited and suffered 23 years for another. In that time I was able to grow up with Dr. Tom. He gained more respect by persuvering and always trying to get better while maintaing his loyalty to his players and his staff. From my observance of Coach Callahan he runs a tight ship. There is "more than winning" on his mind. This was the Husker Way and should be still. I'll be calling for Callahan's firing when he becomes shady like some other squads i know. When winning is the only thing that matters. Ex. Miami, OU and at times CU. I'll jump on the "fire bandwagon" when Coz and his crew run the Husker athletes down in the media or give excuses why they lost without accepting any blame. Until then I'll be patient, always watchful and always dam proud. As did Dr. Tom at times. Especially early on against Misouri. I still think he made a mistake in 83 against Miami. Not tha he went for 2 but that he didn't go for 2 the TD before. If he had and missed he would of had to go for 2 for the tie at the end if he had made the first then the kick at the end would of been all he needed. Hah but I forgave him. All I ask is give this group a chance. 4 years is nothing. Callahan is a good coach IMO but he will get better over time. Who was Osbornes Defense Coordinator? Did he always have the best defense? Did he eventually? First of all, when did ISU start playing up to us? They've beat us like what 4 times in 4 decades? ISU has had a couple of decent teams in the past 6 or 7 years. However, I think it's pretty naive to believe they're going to have much success in the Big 12 this year. IMO, they will finish either dead last or second to last in the Big 12. They are 1-4 against the likes of Northern Iowa, Kent State, etc. They plain and simply are not a good football team. Ball State easily beats ISU this year. They're more comparable to Nevada, IMO. Of the teams you mentioned not dominating, Cal played Oregon. They were ranked like #6 and #11, so who would really think either team would dominate the other? Florida lost to a team ranked preseason pretty high that really is a good football team other than some offensive letdowns this year. Penn State has been overranked all year. They were exposed a week ago against Michigan. There is simply no excuse for what happened to OU. No one wanted TO fired as Head Coach? Did you sleep through the 70's? There might not have been message boards on the internet (because there wasn't the Internet, Al Gore hadn't invented it yet) , but there was just as much disgust with him. He nearly took the CU job because of the pressure at NU. There were a lot of people calling for TO's head. I had the same attitude about having patience and giving time once upon a time also, but that was ruined 4 years ago. IMO, BC has 6 years to get it done. If he doesn't get it done in that time period, he should be canned just like the last head coach. When I say get it done, I think he needs to win the Big 12 Championship to accomplish this. Pud promised we would not surrender the Big 12 to OU and Texass. We must beat these teams and win the Big 12 in order to make Pud's promise come true. If it is not realized, get someone in here that can! I never said Iowa St is a good team. I said they play up to us meaning we get there best game ala Cu vs OU,K St vs Texas. I don't think its our most emotional game. Facts are NO team can be up every game just ask Ou and Texas who I believe was looking forward to this weeks game. I think most teams play up to us. CU has forever even bought rings for thier win against us. USC made sure they had an extra week to prepare for us just like Misouri is this week. Beating us still means somethng. At least to all our opponents. Beating us puts other programs on the map. Makes other Coaches the up and comers. Mack Brown was only highly thought of by some until he suprised us and gambled on the 4th down on his side of the field. I would add McCartney, Shelemberger, and Mr. Stoops to that list. If a Ball State beats us that IS there season. Same with Iowa St. They could both go 1-11 and they would remember they beat Nebraska. Just like Cu will about beating OU this season. As for Oregon and Cal ok your argument is they were both highly ranked and then said Penn St was over ranked early. Michigan may have been over ranked but what if they win out? Beat Ohio St. etc and win there Bowl. Could it happen? And as for me sleeping through the 70's if you had read any of my other posts or even the one you responded to you would notice I mentioned I first became a fan in 1970, seen our first Championship our second as well and yes heard blowhards like yourself want to run Osborne off because he couldn't beat OU then the big games. I do not however remember people saying he should of be run off in 1990. The reason I think of this is that fair weather fans like yourself had already left to enjoy the flavor of the month while myself and others remained and saw a decent man reach the pinnacle of college football success. I for one have been a fan long enough to see 5 championships, the many fricken heartaches along the way made it just that more sweeter. I'm mature enough to understand one season or one game does not make a Coach. Is Bowden that much worse, is Paterno, is Stoops is Brown? Patience is only one thing you need to remain a fan of Nebraska. Class is another and if you can't get that well like I said I need tickets and Cu and KST always needs more blowhards. Have a nice day.
  14. As did Dr. Tom at times. Especially early on against Misouri. I still think he made a mistake in 83 against Miami. Not tha he went for 2 but that he didn't go for 2 the TD before. 15. Bumping to keep it going. Vote every day I enjoyed looking at the geographical area that voted for her as well. BIG RED RULES.

  17. My reply to FATIRISHHUSKER : Hah. If I was a recruit my take on the game would be 1. (offense recruit) Wow what an offense I could really see myself scoring some points here. I can be a star. 2. (defense recruit) Wow they need me, want me. I can be a star 3. (Coaches) Wow so many. 83,000 of them. Hmmmmm maybe I should just stay home since I'll never be all they want me to be since I know I can't please everyone.
  18. Since the new generation uses and explores the internet in their everyday life I agree with your statements. If a recruit hasn't seen all this his friends have and surely have copied it and emailed it along to the recruit. There was mention of a player attending the Ball State game for an official visit. I have not seen any mention of his reaction to the team and the fans that were there. I think it would be interesting to here his take on the boos and the defense. Did fan reactions cost us a commitment already? To the recruits who do read this post I'd have to say most Husker fans are not fair weather fans. During your young lives you have heard loud mouths nowitalls who stand out no matter where they are. Some just like to talk "trash" and want everyone to think they are the voice of the masses. In reality true fans would love to shut them up but do not want to make "buttocks" of themselves in the same manner. I recently attended a Minor League baseball game Pawtucket vs Buffalo. Great game that went into extra innings. Just one loud mouth there. Seemed to want to be the show since he not only ridiculed the Ump from the first inning but players from both teams. Funny thng to me and the only funny thing was he was wearing a Pirates cap and the teams playing belonged to the Red Sox and Cleveland. Perhaps many of these disgruntled fans are CU Buffalo or K State Lurkers? Its really the only sensible thing I can think of. Surely not Okie's or Texans since they one group can't type and the other is always holding up their 2 outer fingers signifying second place.
  19. Hmmmmmmmm should this list not include UCLA? I mean an average Mountain West Conference team beat them ...bad. No mention of Notre Dame? Hmmmmmmmm maybe they were supposed to be as bad as they are. Didn't see another PAC team called Arizona, Coached by a Stoop beaten at home by another Mountain West Conference team, UNM. Sounds to me this writer has very a very selective memory if not bias against certain conferences and teams. Gentleman thats why its called football and thats why they play the game. A game of emotion not just talent and on any given day odd things happen.
  20. I'm new here. I have viewed this board and Huskerpedia for several years as a fan who cannot get to Nebraska and watch them on a weekly basis. I have had the opportunity to attend only 2 live games both bowl games which I had to buy visitor tickets since none was available. I wore the Husker Red both times and lived thru it. Could care less what the other team thought but mostly found them to be pleasant and welcoming if you can believe that. My family is originally from Nebraska and I began watching them when I was 10 years old during the first two National Championships. I am and always was a Tom Osborne fan and still am. He is a person I have a deep respect for. I remember the days when many so called Husker fans all most drove him away, with his staff he was loyal too. All because they could not beat Oklahoma. I spent over 20 years wishing he could win a Championship for Nebraska and himself while so called Husker fans talked crap about him and others. I would honestly say this was only a few people. I saw him maintain his loyalty to his staff thru thick and thin. Wins and losses. This to me was the Husker way. I saw Frank Solich be ran away from the team in favor of a new way. I didn't understand that then or now although there might of been better Coaches in time I felt he also would acheive great things. I have no beef with Coach Callahan or his staff. I would expect him to be loyal to his staff and team and learn and build. The players are young men striving to do there best on a daily basis. I beleive that because of those behind them itching to take there spots. I do now have a beef with some of those select few who wish to decide to QUIT this team. Yeah quit! I never thought Nebraska fans would act this way. Totally shameless. People like you would of ran Osborne off in his first 4 years. Did run Solich off with your bickering and whining and I expect to hear in the next few days or months that this attitude ran off some new recruits and others on the team. The season isn't over and the results are not complete. Why drag your team down now. Many teams would of taken a victory last week. Right or wrong this team earned theres as well. I was dissapointed in our game the other day but mostly I'm disapointed in the likes of you. Perhaps some of you need to get a life. Although, I am a Husker fan thru nd thru I do have better things to do than set around and wite and say garbage about athletes playing for Nebraska. And to those have quit on this team. Please let me know how I may purchase your game tickets. I can only afford the most resonable offer. My family and I would cherish the opportunity to attend one home game. Just one!! We will need 10 tickets please and yes I am serious. The opponent does not matter.
