  1. You guys are such babys. You have been rubbing peoples noses with all of this Husker BS for 40 years and now you are getting a dose of your own medicine and can't take it. Just think what it would be like if you were an Iowa State fan or a Missouri fan and have had your ass handed to you most of these past 30 years by the Cornhuskers. That would be something to cry about or want to forfeit. You so called great fans have a few bad seasons and you can't handle it. Grow up and start spreading your interests a little more. There are more important things in life rather than obsessing over what some 20-21 year olds do on a football field on a Saturday. Idiots!!! I wouldn't use the same language, and I probably would have nixed the "Idiots!!!" that was thrown in there, but I've got to generally agree with what this guy said. For being "the best fans in college football", I have been anything but impressed by the way you guys have been acting and the things you guys have been saying over the past 3 weeks. Welcome to reality, folks. Your program will certainly find its way back to national relevance, and probably sooner rather than later, but you're never again going to be as good as you were in the 90's. That level of play isn't possible anymore, so I'd suggest you get used to losing back to back games every now and again. It happens. Sticking with your team through losses is part of what being a fan is all about. I'm not a Husker fan, I'm a Sooner, but allow me to take a crack at a response to both you and "Huskerhater" above. You see, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa State, Baylor and the rest of the traditional Big 12 bottom dwellers have never had a tradition of excellence as long and as storied as either OU or Nebraska. It's simply not the same thing when a Colorado or an Oklahoma State has a long dry spell like this, because no one really expects much from them in the first place. Nor should they. Face it, teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, USC, etc., have a tradition that stretches back generations, and that's why people care so much when one of these traditional football giants stumbles for a few seasons. No one really gives a rip when a CU or Oklahoma State or some similar East Popcorn State type football program goes through years of losing seasons. Sorry, but it's just that simple. Thanks you for putting it so eloquently. And to HuskerHater and the CU guy. WTF are you doing wasting your time on this board. Oh yeah, you have NO hobby (a least for me, following Huskers is a hobby) and you have teams with NO tradition. So getting your asses kicked is not that big of deal to you. If you want the cheer the Huskers downfall the season, I don't care, go do it. It is your right. Just go do it on your own teams boards. I didn't go to a single CU board last year when you went 2 - 10 and lost to a Montana State, and any Husker fan who did to rub it in is as classless as the two of you ass hats. Alright, that's it! Gloves are off, it's GO TIME! (Mandelbaum, Mandelbaum, Mandelbaum!!!) First and foremost, to the Sooner fan, I'd hardly lump Colorado in as a "traditional Big XII bottom dweller", as Colorado has won the Big XII North just as many times as Nebraska has, and has a Big XII title to boot. Baylor and Iowa State... okay, that's legit, but I wouldn't even call Mizzou a regular bottom dweller in the Big XII, as they've been consistently in the running for the North title for the past 7 years or so. And just for a moment, humor me, let's cover CU's so called lack of tradition: The University of Colorado started playing football in 1884, 6 years before the University of Nebraska started playing football, and 6 years before the University of Oklahoma was even a University. The Buffs rank 16th on the NCAA's all time win list and 22nd in all-time winning percentage. Colorado has appeared in 27 bowl games. Colorado holds 26 conference titles for football, including 5 Big 8 titles and 1 Big XII title. Colorado has won 1 National Championship, and come within a game of winning 2 more (your Huskers ruined one of those "close" seasons in 1994). There are 4 Colorado Buffaloes football players in the College Football Hall of Fame. We have a Heisman Trophy on campus. We also have the greatest mascot in all of college sports. Now, I'm not going to sit here and say that the Buffs have had as much success as the Sooners or the Huskers, because clearly they haven't (thought I'm sure this post will solicit at least 10 "hay, how many tittles do u hav? Oh yah, 1. We have fiVe!!! LOL!!!"), but to say that Colorado has no football tradition is a bold faced lie. Of 119 Division I-A college football programs, 103 of them have fewer all time wins than the CU Buffs. That, in and of itself, is a mark of a storied program with or without the presence of all of our conference titles and bowl game appearances. And really, just so we get this perfectly clear, THIS is EXACTLY why so many people are fed up with Huskers and Sooners fans. It's not because you're impolite (you're not) or because we're jealous of your schools (we're not) it's because you're so egregiously arrogant about your programs. We're all willing to admit that the Huskers and Sooners have had more success than our programs (with the exception of ND fans, who won't admit anything), so why are you folks so afraid to admit that our schools have storied traditions too? Or that our schools mean just as much to us as yours do to you? Arrogance, as they say, is a nasty smelling perfume. Now, to answer the Husker guy's question, I'm on this board because I like getting all angles of information on the teams in the Big XII. I'm a CU fan first and foremost, but I'm also a college football fan, so I use these boards to keep myself informed (I regularly check the message boards for all the teams in the Big XII, even Baylor, so don't think you're getting special treatment here). I tend to only post when I feel it's either going to be funny or relevant, and I think if you look at the posts I've made in the past you'd agree that's exactly what I've done. As far as this current situation is concerned, I have not been at all impressed with Nebraska's fans over the past few weeks, so I stated that plainly. I wasn't kicking at your program while it's down, nor was I dispensing any sort of ill-mannered smack, I was just stating what I've seen: The so-called "best fans in college football" acting like children, and providing their players with all of the support of a fishnet jock strap. Look, if Bill Callahan was my team's coach (god forbid), I'd be calling for his head too, but you guys have been talking about walking out on your team, leaving your seats empty at Memorial stadium, and as I understand it have been mercilessly booing your own players. Would this be happening at every other school in the country under the same circumstances? Probably, but you're not supposed to be like every other school in the country. You're supposed to be the best fans in college football, so either forfeit your title to someone else or START ACTING LIKE IT. I have spoken my peace. Go Buffs.

  3. I don't mean to hate or discriminate here, but I have a hard time understanding the logic here... or at the very least, I think the logic that's being used has a big hole in it. Sure, recruits will eventually be attracted to the fact that the university is moving the football program back in the right direction, but I don't think that will start taking place until the 2009 recruiting class starts throwing out verbals. You've got to look at the mind of your common recruit. First and foremost, he's going to want to play for a school with adequate facilities - you guys have that more than covered, so there's no worries there. Some kids care about tradition and location, while others don't, so let's just leave both of those out of the mix for the time being. But ALL kids want to play for a coach who runs a system that they'll fit well into, and they ALL want to play for a coach who they like as a person, someone they feel comfortable with. With Callahan acting as the resident "Dead Man Walking w/a Headset and/or a clipboard", and the future coach of the program existing only in the form of speculation, these kids you're going after this year have no idea what the identity of your offense is going to be like going forward (or your defense, but anything's an upgrade over your current situation), nor will they have any idea what your coach is like as a person. With the exception of Osborne, the football program has no face, it has no one prospective players can look at and say "yep, this is the guy that I want to play for". Dr. Tom is one hell of a guy, but there aren't many kids that go to a school to play for an AD... Osborne may be a massive enough icon to pull that off, but I doubt it. Of course, if Callahan steps down in the next few weeks and a new coach is named immediately, well... then that's a whole different story. But as is, I don't think there are going to be too many non-Nebraska bred recruits jumping on board until the dust around your program settles a bit.
  4. Actually, I was deployed last year with a Army Guard unit out of Boise and a number of the top brass in the unit were friends with a some folks in the AD. The scoop was that it was Hawkins who was to convservative and Peterson who was the mastermind behind there success. Hawkins goes to CU...wins what...2 games. Peterson leads BSU to the first BCS for a WAC school. Yeah, he can't coach. Anyway, he would be somebody to strongly consider. First off, Hawkins wasn't the author of the Boise State success story, they've been churning out solid head coaches for well over a decade now (Houston Nutt and Dick Koetter were Boise's head men before Hawkins, and I think there was someone else in there too). Comparing Hawkins to Peterson, I've always heard that Hawkins was the more exciting personality, the stronger recruiter, and the more persuasive leader, whereas Peterson is a better X's and O's guy. That's not to say that Hawkins is poor with X's and O's, or Peterson can't recruit, their strengths just lie in different areas. Personally, if I were a fan of a team looking for a coach, I'd definitely be excited at the prospect of bringing in a guy like Peterson... HOWEVER, I'm not sure that he's a good fit for Nebraska. I feel like the Huskers need someone who specializes in lining the hogs up and running the ball down the other team's throat... someone who can meld well philosophically with Osborne, you dig?
  5. Try PM'ng her. a buff fan and a gore supporter hooking up would be something special I think "something common" would be a bit more appropriate.
  6. Poor thing must've not had good enough grades to get into CU. Oh well, even though she's a Husker I'm pretty sure I just fell in love with this girl anyway. Seriously, I'm not kidding. Someone get me this woman's phone number, we need her on The Hill.
  7. Apologies for interloping, but this seems like a moment where a CU fan's input might be beneficial... You're absolutely in the right to have heavy reservations about Watson. Although I won't knock him for his performance in 2002 (getting an offense to score any points with a kid like Robert Hodge as your quarterback is an outright miracle, regardless of the surrounding talent), the results that CU produced in 2001 could easily be attributed as much (or more) to the talent on the field as it could be to anything that the coaches did. Remember, that 2001 CU offense featured Daniel Graham (who's now generally accepted as the best blocking tight end in the NFL, and a great receiver at that), two pro caliber running backs in Chris Brown and Bobby Purify, one of the best blocking fullbacks in recent NCAA history in Brandon Drumm, a great WR tandem in DJ Hackett and Derek McCoy, and the best offensive line CU had seen since 1994 (highlighted by Andre Gurode, Wayne Lucier, and Victor Rogers, all of whom were STUDS throughout their careers). He also lucked into a great string of performances by back up quarterback Bobby Pesavento who, while not being the most technically sound quarterback on the face of the earth, was a solid game management QB on the collegiate level. Once all of that talent was gone, CU's offense ground to a halt. Watson would call the same vanilla run/run/pass (usually followed immediately by a punt) offense over and over again, but the offense just wouldn't produce anything. Basically, he didn't seem to know how to get anything accomplished without a wealth of talent. Now, I don't know if that's a huge worry as far as Nebraska is concerned, because you guys still have a bunch of talent (albeit underachieving/uninspired talent currently, but it's still talent), so he may work out for you... but I can tell you that in Boulder you can still find people who will defend Barnett, but it's awfully hard to come across someone who'll argue that we need to bring Watson back.
  8. Just for the record... I think most CU fans want to see the Huskers come back to "where they're supposed to be" (personally, I disagree with that language, but that's how most people are putting it) within the next 3 to 5 years or so. Simply put, the day after Thanksgiving is a lot more fun for us when you guys are in the top 10 (and it's especially fun, though a bit more nerve wracking, when our Buffaloes are there as well). Of course, I'd be lying if I said the city of Boulder hasn't REALLY enjoyed the past two weeks (with the obvious exception of our game against KSU), but just know that we're rooting for you to get back on your feet soon... not right away, but soon.
  9. Why don't you go take a flyin' f u c k at Buffie?!?! Who or what is Buffie? How does one "take" an effing eff "at" something? Why are you so quick to defend Ohio State? Sweet Maria, your rebuttal is confusing on so many levels.
  10. Wouldn't you guys have to pay your players more than anyone else to be the Yankees of college football? I'm pretty sure Ohio State has that honor locked up pretty tightly...
  11. Yep, he went on to start at linebacker for Miami.
  12. Right off the bat, let's get 2 things straight: 1. Yes, I am an alum of the University of Colorado. 2. No, I'm not here solely for the purpose of bothering you Husker folks, nor am I going to pepper your boards with an army of posts that start and end with "AHAHAHAHA" and are written entirely in caps lock. Now that we've gotten those two points clear, one of my fellow Buffaloes on netbuffs.com (username Euclid, to give credit where credit is due) has done some digging around in the archives of the Chicago Tribune and found a pretty interesting tidbit on Bill Callahan's past. Maybe some of you folks were aware of this info, but I certainly wasn't, so I thought I'd pass it on... enjoy, or don't enjoy... really, just do whatever you want with this: “According to the 11/12/1993 Chicago Tribune, the Big Ten Conference has "taken action" against a Wisconsin Badger coach who was caught snooping in an Illinois private booth at the Illinois-Purdue game played in West Lafayette on 10/2. Bill Callahan, the Badger's offensive line coach, was sent by Wisconsin to scout the game since they had the week off. Callahan was sitting in the open press box during the game. The Illini had a private booth on the same level where they had their game plans, playbooks, communication equipment for talking to the on-field coaches, etc. After the game, the Illini coaches left the booth to go to the locker room. Callahan was discovered rummaging through the Illini material by a student manager who walked into the booth and asked him to leave. This does not directly violate any NCAA rules other than being highly unethical. Neither the Illini nor the Badgers had any comment.” So that's it. I'm sure I'll see a few of you in November, but until then do your best to knock off the Jayhawks when you get the chance... the city of Boulder would certainly appreciate it (of course, somehow I doubt you guys are too interested in doing favors for the city of Boulder... oh well, it was worth a shot).
