  1. Suh_fan:

Soooooo many memories...good and bad...the bad one's tend to be memorable too, just not as fun.

But, 1983 sticks out to me... Down in Norman in the rain. I was about 12 and was sitting with my cousin behind the Sooner Bench. Our parents sat somewhere else. After the clock expired, I stormed the field at age 12 and tried to get Mike Knox's towel. Thing is, I got lost and the stadium was almost empty when I accidently ran into my dad in the concourse. He was pissed and I was in a panic...got an a$$ chewin' but it was worth it.

This one HANC. 4 of my college (freshman) buds and I had gotten okay from parents to attend Orange Bowl - all we had to do was win this game. We had car (borrowed from my dad), reservations at some dive in 'Lauterdale' and the number of the UNL ticket office on a piece of paper... god, what a game to watch!!!

  2. I don't think I can handle another huge disappointment like I've seen over and over for the past few years. We've got to win this one. If we don't, I won't be able to function  (at least if it's like any of the heart-wrenching losses over the past two years, excluding Texas Tech I guess).

Welcome to what the season ending Nebraska/Oklahoma game is supposed to feel like my friend!

  3. ultimately, we're just rodeo clowns

    ???

...putting on our own show, pulling attention away from what's really going on.

(let's review last year, with all the season's venom directed towards Zac Lee, stupid coaches, and his (unknown) busted up elbow, shall we?!)

this is all a hoot, but like I said, I trust the coaches... if anyone is tasked with truly knowing what's best for the team, it's them.

okay, that was a little snotty, but god, we're trashing this kid in this thread...

  4. It sure is easy looking back and only remembering the good stuff. How did TMart do against SDSU and Texas? In fact against Missouri and even though injured, A&M? I am sure that Pelini isn't going to put up with much more of this crap if the rumors are true. To be honest with you, I'm starting to look at him a bit different myself.

:yeah I really do trust the coaches to sort this thing out (either way)... ultimately, we're just rodeo clowns.

  5. Ed Cunningham says yesterday that it was a shame that he wasn't on this list. Probably the best kicker in NCAA history. I don't know for sure but that is a pretty huge compliment from a guy that isn't a NU homer. Franklin pretty much agreed with him. Most NU fans had the TV on mute and prolly didn't hear those kind words. Congrats Alex. You will be rich very soon. 2nd round pick for sure.

    :yeah Scoreboard. screw the awards...

  6. Ahhhhh.... Nebraska vs Oklahoma for all the marbles.... This is the way it is meant to end.

I am 41 years old and can only remember "so-far" back, so for you older members, please forgive me, but what a great way to end. I am a football purist.

Over my lifetime, I have spent countless games in Lincoln , in Norman, or in my living room watching this historical rivalry. I remember all the games from about 1975 until present.

I have yelled, danced, drank, partied, cussed, and even cried throughout the years. As a young boy and even in college I "HATED" the Sooners with a passion. Then, Barry leaves and Tom leaves, and along come the 'wannabees" (KSU and CU)....

It wasn't until after college and I became a coach myself that I realized what a special rivalry and a great amount of respect that there was between the two programs. Yes, I still want to BEAT OU more now than ever, but I can honestly say that I RESPECT their program.

I have traveled to Norman countless times and have seen Neb. win many and lose our share, and have usually been treated well....of course, in my younger days, I (and buddies) probably brought a little bit of mistreatment on ourselves.

I hoped for this match up ALL YEAR... and I will be in Dallas rooting my a$$ off for my alma matar, but if we should lose (not planning on it), I can say that I will be able to sleep that night, knowing that this was HOW IT SHOULD BE... NU vs OU...

Good thoughts HANC, I would add that the couple of years when OU guys would come up from our same house in the 80's we always had a great time showing them the town, and they just loved the upside-down margaritas and the original side track (where the college kids had to 'steal it' from the bikers every week on Friday afternoon), sandwiches and schlitz from the caboose, and a bunch of other things i can't remember (!) It was a blast... they were our favorite visitors (it was a drunk mutual-respect society).

  7. For the most part I think the Big 12 officiating has been bad all around. That said, I find it rather uncanny that we don't get ANY holding calls against opposing offensive lines. Most of the time, I see blatant holding all over opposing offenses yet it goes uncalled. They got one right in the ISU game because it was so obvious there really is no way you can't call it, but when your defensive tackles are heading back to the sidelines with tears all over their jerseys, something is up. They obviously wear some pretty tight jerseys these days, but come on. I'm pretty sure Crick had to change jerseys during a game once because it got torn to the mid sternum.

We talked about the lack of holding calls last year as well. Excluding our Sun Belt games, our opponents had 366 pass attempts last year and were called for holding our D Line, which included Ndamukong Suh, 11 times. This included ZERO holding calls against VA Tech, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arizona. In contrast, Nebraska had 252 pass attempts and was flagged for holding 13 times.

It's not just this year that this is happening, but there are DEFINITELY a lack of holding calls against our D Line. And there are ripped/shredded jerseys to attest to the fact that our guys are being held.

    Whattayagonnado? :dunno

Our players seem to pretty much be taking this in stride during the game. Do you think the coaches are using it as a motivational tool? "Okay guys, over/unders on how many screwed calls we gotta overcome this week?!"

  8. my two cents…

I will tell ya guys, this is nothing new. There are berserk games, to be sure. Always have been. In the 80’s, the stadium shook for Oklahoma, UCLA, and whoever the latest Big-8-pretender was that year… But on the whole, Nebraska has always been a fairly workmanlike place when the game is in hand.

I remember some coach (can’t remember who?) describing the Huskers like business men, who would show up, open their briefcases, proceed to kick you’re a$$, and then pack up and go home. Wasn’t TO famous for telling his guys to “act like you’ve been there before”?

In the early 80’s, as a college student, I remember going to a game in ‘The Swamp’ in Gainsville… it was Western Kentucky, or somebody like that. I remember thinking at the time, “How the hell can these guys stay completely nuts over every little thing, in a game that was never in doubt, and didn’t mean a thing?” To me, it smacked of ‘bush league’, compared to my Husker home…

I like berserk as much as the next guy… Henry’s 57 yarder against CU will always rank as one of my favorite few seconds in this life, but c’mon, all games are not all the same. It should be about real emotion – not a manufactured event.

    :rant

  9. Surprised no one attacked the It's cold here deal. I am sure it is way colder in Nebraska than it is in Texas. I am in Houston and it is 70 degrees out, yesterday the high was 60. NOT COLD, sry Aggiegal2005. Cold is when you walk outside and your face freezes off, snot turns to ice on you lip. Nebraska is cold, not Texas!

oh yea, we are excited about the big 10, you have fun trying to get that $20 million from Texas in the Texas 10! I bet within 3 years your in the SEC conference.

...she's an ex-pat "living in big ten country".

  10. Speaking of statistics, consider this earthshattering trend:

Bo’s record in months beginning with a vowel: 58% (7-5)

Bo’s record in months beginning with a consonant: 86% (19-3; regular season games only)

Clearly, we should quit scheduling games in October. And August too, just to be safe.

    (Aren't statistics great?)

so does it have something to do with oysters? (love the stat!)

  11. University is just wrapping up formal selection of the design team. Should see something developing soon - very tight time frame for design & construction.

    Like months ya think?

I'm thinking the project will have to really start taking shape soon after the first of the year - at least its essential elements. I've heard the design time is 'extremely' constricted.

  12. I'd say it's mostly misused. I see it most often as a weapon against "those who don't think like I think" when it comes to Husker fandom.

Second most often is when a Husker fan doesn't act nice as pie around a non-Husker fan.

I wish they'd quit blasting that 'greatest fans' line over the lousy sound system at games - just doesn't feel right, every time I hear it. (It's like somebody bragging about how humble they are).
