  1. Combine this with the fact that Grobe is already making 1.5 million which is more than what TO wants to spend. I highly doubt Grobe would take a pay cut to come to Nebraska.

Just because Sipple wrote an article doesn't mean it is true. Bargain-shopping with the future of the program in the balance would be really stupid. They wouldn't be interviewing guys that already make nice money if they weren't prepared to spend. I'm not saying budget isn't an issue but I'd bet we are willing do dole out up to $2million per and a buyout if it will get a HC that is a proven winner.

  2. Don't forget Hawks was in Atlanta yesterday, dude is one of the dept's major bankrollers. The buyouts depend on the boosters IMO, if they like a guy they'll pony-up to get him.

Maybe Bo and Gill are back-up choices. I don't know. According to the rumor-mill Ark already made a hard play for Bo(their AD totally wanted him when he was at Pitt). Either that is false or Bo thinks he is getting this job.

Maybe TO is waiting for the post-Army interiew with Johnson to make a decision.

IMO Bo better put the wood to Tenn this weekend. It would make a statement for the locals and potential employers.

  3. I'm not saying Gill is my top-choice. I rank several, more experienced, guys above him. But do you think a big-name coach would be doing any better at Buffalo? I doubt it. What did Bobby Ross do at Army? Nothing. Buffalo's whole non-con schedule is BCS-conference teams that outgun them. They managed a winning record within the conference(teams you can expect them to have a real chance again). If it was just luck Gill wouldn't be the first guy ever at Buffalo to get over two wins. If Gill wasn't a solid coach Buffalo would be the same absolute trainwreck he inherited.

  4. Cowher is night and day from BC.

He would fit great into the Nebraska-mold of hard-nosed, highly-motivated football.

I have thought about him but never considered him a realistic option. But if he was interested in college-ball Neb would suit him to a T.

If he is actually interested it would be a crime not to interview him. I guarantee you boosters would come up with the extra $$ it might take to pull him.

  5. When Prince came to KSU he looked to me like another John Blake, a first-rate line-coach/recruiter that was over his head as a HC. He was meh when promoted to Virginia's OC. Ya there is the rare Bohl that is a better HC than coordinator but that is the exception not the rule.

A better-coached team would've played us way closer. Why the hell wouldn't you have Freeman running the read-option that everyone else had been tearing us up with? The 3-4 was just a bad idea, by the second-half of the season everybody had it figured-out and was gouging it.

IMO they should've used Snyder's input on potential candidates more. They could've had Gary Patterson for piss-sakes. He is an old KSU-guy.

  6. Boosters were just tired of Ga Tech being at the same level every year. Every year they are a decent team that makes a bowl but they never made the jump to contender. It wasn't THAT long ago that Ga Tech was a major program, they want to get back there. When you consider that the ACC isn't that tough and Wake has passed you in it I can see the move. Gailey is a first-rate assistant-coach, he'll probably be snatched-up quickly by somebody.

Jon Tenuta would be a hell of a hire at DC, been thinking about that since they started talking about Gailey being gone. Since TO is in Georgia anyway he'd be smart to get a meeting in.

Paul Johson or Chris Peterson with a Jon Tenuta leading the D could be nasty.

  7. Up through 2002 Frank had the staff that TO wanted there. Mack probably wouldn't have had to carry that burden, a definite plus. But Mack's big thing is recruiting and he is in the biggest recruiting hot-bed in the country. It would be harder here. He probably wouldn't have had VY here and VY carried that team on his back. I don't know if Mack would have done any better than Solich.

  8. Pelini's D was obviously not good yesterday but I don't get the knee-jerk hate.

I don't see how Peterson to here would be a lateral-move. Boise is an elite non-BCS program but they are still a non-BCS program. Personal ties may keep him at Boise but I don't see where Neb wouldn't be a career-forwarding move.

I don't know if Calhoun would leave AF, being that he was a NFL-OC and left simply because he is an AF-guy. But I think he would definitely be worth looking into.

  9. 1. Kelly from Cinci

    2. Peterson from Boise

    3. Calhoun from Air Force

    4. Paul Johnson

    5. June Jones

    6. Bo

    7. Jim Grobe

    8. Gill

    9. Bud Foster

    10. Gary Patterson

I hope Sipple's $1million per year thing is just something he made-up. Maybe he meant it like Frank's package was, his base-salary was modest but his total income came-out much higher.

IMO we should hire the most-qualified guy that will come for fair market-value.

  10. So TO gave BC zero support before because he wasn't sure but now he will give BC another shot but still isn't making any public displays of support? If TO keeps BC he has done a crap-job. If BC had a real shot at staying he should've gotten some public love from TO so the rumor-mill could be kept in-check and guys wouldn't be decommiting. This firing talk is all over the place, whether it is TO's "style" or not that situation demands you be pro-active and make your support known.

So does this game play into the decision? I can't believe BC could go 5-7 and keep his job.

  11. No and HELL NO.

Are you aware that the OC's at Meyer's previous schools both got HC-jobs with meh results? The guy at BG has done OK, well-enough to keep his job but not enough move-on from the MAC. The guy from Utah, that was over Mullen, has done squat at UNLV. Other than some better recruiting-ties why would Mullen do significantly better? Florida's O works because they mastermind of that system is the HC, Meyer is what ultimately makes that O work.

Say what you will about Bo but you can't say Frank and Les were the reasons he succeeded. While Beamer is a more defense-oriented coach he still hasn't had the input on Foster's D that Meyer has had on Mullen's O.

IMO Mullen would be a significant risk. If for some reason he'd be OC I'd be interested, but HC? No way.

  12. Osborne is not telling the players what he's going to do. Also, if he had already decided to keep Callahan he'd make it public to stop the constant questioning Billy C is receiving in regards to his future. Who knows, he may keep Callahan (doubtful), but he certainly hasn't shared that with anyone.

Gotta agree. Don't tell anything to the players you would be afraid of getting out to the public. Ya if TO does actually plan to "forgive" this season why the hell wouldn't he give BC some public support? If he is really that big on BC he has handled this situation piss-poorly. Not even for giving BC a shot but for letting the rumor-circus run-amuck and big recruits to decommit. Should've at-least given the staff the old "vote of confidence". And don' give me any crap about that not being TO's way of doing things. He is the AD, if the coach he is keeping is getting barraged with firing-talk he has to step-up and make public statement to the contrary.

  13. Peterson is getting a fair amount of talk for the UCLA-job, him and Leach.

Hawkins is working with the results of a transition-class and the date-rape-scandal classes. Not much talent there. He'll improve IMO.

Plus Peterson was the guy running the offense that has been destroying for the last several years. He was a big reason Hawk was winning at Boise.

  14. If BC had a $24million buyout I'm betting he'd be getting a "vote of confidence" too. That ridiculous extension to kill rumors of Weis leaving will likely cause their AD his job.

Plus while Weis's current season is a joke and if he didn't have the huge buyout he could be gone Weis first two seasons were better than anything BC has put out there. Real success tends to get you more benefit of the doubt in bad times. In 03 we canned a staff that went 10-3, BC has only gotten within a sniff of that once.

  15. Foster is a hell of a coach. It is weird that is his name doesn't come-up more, not even for an average job like a Minnesota. I'd imagine somebody would pull their head out of their ass and hire him sometime. His D isn't on-top that much by accident, losing him could be devastating to Va Tech.

Kelly would definitely be a money hire. Wouldn't surprise me if Mich makes a play for him given his championship history at two schools in the state.

I love Peterson's offense, it is very well-balanced and gets the most out of talent. It has been money every year. Gotta be impressed with the Fiest Bowl, schooled Stoops.

I like Muschamp but would rather have Bo since we saw what he quickly did with our boys before and the way he got a pissed-off team together for the bowl.

Grobe is a good coach but he already shot-down Bama when they were interested. May want to stick with his baby and retire from there a local hero.

  16. :bonez:hellloooo:hellloooo:bonez

One point was forgotten; 8-8, 9-7, 10-6 and 11-5 can get you into the playoffs. 10-6 and better are considered good seasons. In college 2 losses and you are out of the picture as far as the national championship and on your way to the Garbage Can Bowl in early December that is shown on Lifetime, the Women's Channel. College is pressure football, every game means something. You can't afford to lose and you can't afford to beat Ball State by one point. BC just didn't get it.

    ...T_O_B

    :bonez:hellloooo:hellloooo:bonez

Beat Ball State? Hell they beat themselves by missing the tying extra-point and dropping the winning TD. Just think, is anyone pimping keeping BC if Ball doesn't piss that game away? I think not.

Ya in pro-ball you can afford slumps as long as you make it into the playoffs and are clicking when you get there. In college every game means something. Several losses doesn't get it done, not at Neb anyway.

BC not adapting to the college game-teaching technique and hitting regularly, is a big culprit in our inconsistency and defensive mediocrity. Like Sarkisian said you have to approach practicing in college differently.

  17. 1. TO admits he should've handled the LP-situation differently. He ended-up tarnishing the program for a kid that just went-on to more thuggery(that wasn't the goal of-course but obviously the end-product)

    2. TO gave LP another shot because he figured getting LP back into football was LP's best chance in life. TO will be looking at what is best for the program not what is best for BC.
