  1. Black Friday is here and the Huskers are up against the Darth Vader of collegiate football...the Hoks.  Forget everything that's transpired so far this season.  THIS is your destiny.  To destroy the Covid ridden Death Star piloted by the evil racist emporer Kirk (all my kids work for me so I don't have to give them an allowance) Ferentz.  We need the utmost effort from every Husker player, fan and cardboard cutout to free the Midwest of this evil plague.  If Skywalker could do it, the Huskers can...hell...you both have guys named Luke.  It's obviously a sign.  And Jo Jo is pretty close to Jar Jar.  Another sign!

Anyway, the Sqwaucks deserve to lose.  Why...Kirk Ferentz has been threatening to postpone the game because he doesn't want to play on "black" Friday...and the Steelers want their uniforms back.

you guys clean Iowa's clock and we'll kick longhorn butt and the world will be a happier place.

Probably just celebrating a bit too hard after the win today. In Ames, I can only imagine that involves binging on engine degreaser and hitting each other over the head with frozen turnips.

Natty Lite and sniffing ethanol at the local Kum & Go actually...

  3. It's Friday night...traditionally the night for high school football...and we have two of the biggest high school teams on FSN1 tonight.  It's the Iowa Minnesota matchup.  The winner gets to take home a metal pig (as chosen by the other cheerleaders).  So let's sit back, relax, and make fun of the Hawks and the Gophers shall we?  By the way...Kirk Farentz is a racist.

  4. You should have made a bigger play for Matt.  He brought a staff that develops players.  Frost and his staff doesn't seem to have the ability or interest in evaluating and developing recruits.

Before you all go off the rails on me, hear me out.  I hear a lot of bragging about all the talent Nebraska has and how highly ranked the recruiting classes are but that's not translating into success on the field.  Matt Campbell and his staff takes their 3 star recruits and turns them into exceptional football players.

    Breece Hall...3*

    Charlie Kolar...3*

    Brock Purdy...3*

    Mike Rose...3*

    David Montgomery...no stars.

Here's goes after hard playing, fundamentally sound players and develops them into legitimate All Americans.  And he does it at Iowa State.

  5. Okay, I'll be serious

The defensive front was stout.  Stuffed the run real well with the exception of one or two plays.  LBs are heads above where they were last year.  Line needs to get better pressure without relying on blitzes.  A good coach will pick up on that and pick it apart.

DBs need to learn to wrap up.  Lots of shoulder hits that didn't knock anybody down but allowed the ball carrier to get a couple more yards.  Noticed as the game went on, the cushion got bigger.

On offense, the running game (other than the QB draws and scrambles) is nonexistent.  Need to get back to the basics in the run game.  Get a fullback back there to open a few holes.  If you can't execute a basic running game plan, don't get cute with trick crap.

Frost needs to pick a QB and stick with him.  Luke seemed to have better velocity and aim today.  Give the guy the next start.  It isn't going to help either guy switching them out game to game.  You'll never get team consistency if the rest of the offense doesn't know which guy they will be dealing with from series to series.

Run blocking is harder than pass blocking so if the line sucks (and I'm not convinced they do) use a few two tight end sets or get a lead blocker into the backfield.  I watched some dives into the middle today but not much to the edges.  What happened to the option?  Pulls the safeties up and loosen up the middle.  Do something, anything, to get the DBs pulled in to give the WR a chance.

Play calling was predictable.  Defense isn't fooled by three guys in motion.  NW knew it would be a 5 yard out or QB draw.

Referees were consistently bad for both teams.  No favoritism I could see.  No targeting calls or official reviews so at least the game was over fast.

  6. My take aways:

    1.  Glad you chose Frost and let us keep Campbell.

    2.  If you are a prospective RB recruit, look somewhere besides Nebraska

    3.  Neither of your QBs look impressive.

    4.  NW is bad.

    5.  Kirk Ferentz is a racist (which has nothing to do with Nebraska but I like to      keep pointing it out)

    6.  Footballs bounce real high when you throw it at a helmet

    7.  Kansas looks better at this point in the season
