  1. We may lose the title of "greatest college football fans in America" after this season.

I agree. I think that this season has showcased a swath of poor fan behavior on our part. I wouldn't be surprised to hear people talk about how our fans have grown bitter and unfriendly.

What have YOU done that is poor behavior? What have YOU done that is bitter and unfriendly?

I'm guessing nothing. I'm guessing that you have continued to be the cool, friendly fan that you've likely always been (I'm assuming here, but I'm probably right).

So if YOU have always been, and continue to be, that great fan, what makes you think the vast majority of the rest of us haven't? And when you say you think the vast majority of us are more than likely the same good fan you are, it's not a great logical leap to realize that we're all really good fans, and it's only a tiny minority of people who are doing these stupid things.

I'm going to keep harping on this until I convince every Husker Fan in America that we're still good fans. Just because a few nitwits do dumb things doesn't make the rest of us bad fans.

And I'll say this for the 1,000th time - it does not matter what anyone who is not a Husker Fan thinks of us. As long as we stay cool, we're going to be OK.

  2. If TO really is going to hire Bo Pelini (and I'm not convinced of this, I'm just playing along here), shouldn't Husker Nation hope for at least one more loss by LSU this season?

My thinking is that if Bo is the guy, he can not and will not take the position until after LSU's bowl game. This would definitely be the honorable thing to do, and I would hope we wouldn't be going after a coach without a personal sense of honor.

However, if LSU isn't playing for the Mythical National Championship, I think it becomes far more likely that Bo would accept the position after their last regular-season game. Doesn't that make sense? That way he could get a jump on finishing a recruiting class, and getting his staff together.

    Here's LSU's last three games:

    11/17 - @Ole Miss

    11/23 - Arkansas

    11/30 - SEC Championship

I think they beat Ole Miss unmercifully. However, they could very possibly lose to Arkansas, or if they beat Arkansas they could very easily lose the SEC title game. That would certainly put them out of the MNC hunt, and make Pelini far more likely to be available.

Does that make sense to anyone else?

  3. However fair or unfair it is people will associate these jokers with ALL of Husker Nation. You really can’t pick and choose who is a “fan” of your favorite team. Crap I don’t want to be associated with half the people on this board or a lot of the people at the games. (Definitely the goofs in Row 70 seats 8-12 of the section I sit in) The point is the people that are making these calls or saying the crap that is being said are “fans” they are just disillusioned “fans”. You may not agree with what they are doing or saying and I DON’T but I believe in their minds they aren’t doing anything wrong. We are all not the same type of fan, some cheer for everything, some complain about everything and some are just plain stupid. I think these people fall under the just plain stupid group.

I really agree with you, newearth. Frankly, I don't care if ESPN or SI or anyone else thinks less of us because of this. I want you and me and all the other Husker Fans to know that we're still cool. That's all I care about. Outsiders to the program - couldn't care less what they think, good or ill.

  4. Someone else is going to take you to task for the Columbine comments, and I'll let them because I don't have time right now.

What I will say is that criticizing the job Cosgrove and Callahan have done here at Nebraska is NOT wrong. It's OK to criticize, as long as it's done correctly.

  5. The same blame could legitimately be put on TO, though, couldn't it?

Had Tom fired Callahan and Co. when he first took the job, we may still have given up a bazillion points to KU, but at least the soon-to-be-former coaching staff wouldn't be here to get this kind of flak. That's as legitimate as the Callahan-is-to-blame statement.

The bottom line is that there is one person ONLY who is responsible for this ignorant situation, and that's the twit who made the phone call. THAT GUY should get tossed in the clink, and the rest of us Husker Fans shouldn't have to suffer for what he's done. Period.

  6. I could see TO talking to Barry Alvarez about current coaches and his thoughts on who would be a good replacement. No way no how would he be in serious talks about hiring Alvarez? The only conclusion would be that Barry misses game day and is dipping his toe in the water. I think we need to either name tom ad for x number of years or tom needs to get his guy in to give prospective new coaches and idea of who is going to be their "boss" along with 1.7 million of us. Word was nobody wanted to work for PUD

So many things to agree with here...

Yes, I believe TO would have talked to Alvarez to get his opinion, but certainly not to offer him the gig.

TO would be a great AD, and if he would consent to take the job he could have it for the rest of his life, IMO.

I also believe that Pederson was not making himself a very attractive boss, and that was one of the main reasons he had such trouble hiring Solich's replacement.

  7. :lol::lol:

knapplc, enough. If you can't post without the personal attacks, either find a new board or don't post at all.

If you think calling someone "clueless" is a personal attack worthy of a warning, you should see what's been posted about me - by Freemason, among others - in my brief time here. I didn't see anyone coming to my defense then.

I shall not call anyone clueless again, however. Point taken.

I agree with you FreeMason was out of line as well. Course he did have more tackles than you. :) Hey life should be fun. Be Happy all. Some Husker fans didn't wake up today. Hope all of you will for sometime.

Yes, we both need to tone it down. I agree with that. I'm not looking for AR to give me a free pass, I'm just thinking the playing field should be level.

But I did make my little "pledge," and I plan on sticking to it. No more Mr. Mean Guy from me. Like you said, NM - this should be fun. We are all Husker Fans, so no more bickering for me.

Friend we are all in this together. Didn't seem to me that you had to take Juniors crap anymore than mine. We all get a little carried away sometimes but I think calmer heads are needed to make rational decisions don't you Junior? :)

After all your Dad probably would of beaten my Dad up...but being the good Minister my Dad was you'd be the one paying in hell. J/K

My dad's not a minister - but he has been an Elder in our church for 20+ years. Our dads would probably meet and suddenly break into a Bible study. :)

  8. I think that would be cool and i think the B****** of memorial stadium would be cool if people would stop being so stubborn about it.

I'd participate in a B****** if it wasn't 97 degrees and humid as all get-out. Sitting in the North Stadium with that sun blazing down on you is pretty uncomfortable if you're wearing black.

Maybe in November - IF it's cloudy.

All of these items will get you flogged repeatedly.

You know Bill, some of us like getting flogged repeatedly.

Didn't you ever watch Exit to Eden?

    :)

  9. Your missing the point. We are all guilty by association, it doesnt matter that we are not responsible for his actions and that we shouldnt take the hit, but we will. The news media will blow this up and say "look NU fans are just like everyone else now". It doesnt matter that it was one isolated incident, because that is all it takes...example Lawrence Phillips, anyone who isn't an NU fan only remembers TO for letting LP play in the 95 NC. Now we are going to be known as the fanbase who calls in death threats, formerly known as the "Greatest Fans on Earth" and YES WE did hit rock bottom about two weeks ago when KU hung 76 on us. I thought that was as bad as it could get.............evidently not, now we have people calling death threats in on our coaches.

Anyone who thinks that this guy may not be a Husker fan has been drinking way to much kool-aid. Why would anyone from another fanbase go to the hassle of getting Cozs phone# and making the call? Just so he can try to make us look bad. That is way to big of a stretch, just connect the dots. We lose by the worst margian in school history and that night a coach gets a death threat. So dont try and pass this off as it not being an NU fan, because that is insulting everones intelligence.

No, no - I get your point. Why you care what the national media thinks of us is beyond me. I couldn't care less. I don't care if they subjectively brand us "the greatest fans of all time" or "the worst fans of all time." It doesn't affect me either way, because they're not Huskers. They don't know and don't get what we're about, all they want to do is sell their newspaper/broadcast/website and they'll do it any way they can. They're going to publish the most salacious accusations against any program if it sells.

Let me ask you this – how many people in the State Pen or in Tecumseh do you think consider themselves Husker Fans? None? Most? All? Do we share in the guilt of their crimes, too? Of course not! So this guy who got Cos’ number is probably a “Husker Fan,” but he’s certainly not the kind of fan you and I are. He’s more likely the kind of fan the guys in the Pen are, the only difference being his crime will have been directly at a coach.

They’re all criminals. They’re all Husker Fans. But we are not all the same.

Don’t sweat what the national media calls us. They’re just selling stories.

  10. Remember, this is the same ESPN that can't spell Osborne's name right, and can't be bothered to check their facts about his coaching tenure or his bowl appearances, either.

I'm guessing that their guesses won't be all that accurate.

  11.

Like I said, if you personally attacked him, or his family, you should be emailing....but if you are criticizing the job he has done....no apology necessary.

    :yeah

Well said. Although I don't think it would be out of line to wish him well in the future, even if you were one of the people who criticized him. I want Cosgrove gone from Nebraska like NOW! but I also want him to continue to work and feed his family and raise his kids.

  12. Did anyone else hear that insesent tearing noise and then a loud crash?.............That was us ripping through what we thought was rock bottom and then crashing into the basement. Thanks to the jack@ss who just put our fanbase into the same conversation as Miami, Colorado, and Missery. Thanks for nothing you no talent @ss clown. Was drinking beer and beating your wife and kids not fun enough anymore you D-Bag? I hope they catch this a-hole and make him eat $hit.

Why? Because of one guy who claims to be a Husker fan but who instead did something that goes against what makes someone a Husker? WE did not hit rock bottom, HE hit rock bottom.

I get your frustration with this situation, but don't lump all of us into this guy's stupidity. We are not responsible, and we should not take the hit for this.

  13. Greatest fans my ass. Even if it is just one person, sheds a bad light on all of us AND given that every fan from here to the high heavens are whining and complaining for the past 4 years about every single freaking thing from calls on the field to what the coaches say to the clothes that they wear to what they eat for lunch...

I think we lost the distinction of 'greatest fans' a long time ago folks. We just haven't realized in our own minds yet.

We are not entitled to anything. Doesn't matter what we think. We are not. We are no beter than anybody else. Our fans have proved that.

We are entitled to watch our team, support our team. That's it.

Here's what you do: YOU go ahead and believe that this guy somehow represents YOU. YOU can mentally lump YOURSELF into the same category as the kind of person who would do this. YOU take responsibility for this, YOU castigate yourself for this, and YOU can go right ahead and consider YOURSELF a bad fan because of this.

I'm going to keep my belief that the fans of the University of Nebraska are today the same fans they've always been. I'm going to continue being a good fan, and I'm going to continue to disassociate myself from these kinds of people.

Don't throw me and every other good Husker fan under the bus because ONE GUY did something that is totally against the values of every other Husker fan.

What amazes me is that someone would even need to be told this kind of thing.

  14. I caught this on the radio just now while driving, and I absolutely KNEW that when I came back here there would be someone out there ready to knock us off the fictional "greatest fans in college football" pedestal.

What a shock... there it is. ^^^^

I mean COME ON!!!! Are you freaking kidding me? Some nut job gets ahold of Cosgrove's phone number and leaves a stupid, stupid message, and WE are all thrown under the bus for that?

    Are you kidding me?

Here's what I'm going to do. Every person who says this puts all Husker fans in a bad light, I'm going to write down their screen names, and then I'm going to go out and speed through my neighborhood. When the cops pull me over, I'll say, "Oh, don't write me a ticket officer - write [insert name here] because I represent him. Write him the ticket."

I'm certain that'll get me off the ticket, won't it?

That's the logic being used when you say this idiot represents Husker Fans.

    Think about that.
