  1. when you have your starters in with a 30 plus point lead, 69 points on the board, and its the 4th quarter. that is the very definition of running up the score. i'm not getting into if it was right or not. but no one can argue that fact. that is exactly what it is.

and I will also put forth this fact. TO never did that. he never had his starters in the 4th quarter.....ever.

Ahem: Nebraska 69 OU 7, November 1st, 1997. Not trying to be trollish, just saying...(and this Sooner fan sure didn't whine about it at the time; I wasn't babyish enough to think Nebraska's offense was obligated to stop itself).

We had our scrubs in before halftime of that game, as I recall. That game, much like NU/KU last week, was a case of one team simply being unable to stop the other team. Osborne wasn't running up the score - he was running his offense. OU just couldn't stop it, period. I know you're not trolling, I'm just saying that it wasn't a case of running up the score intentionally.

And quite frankly I don't care if Mangino had put in the KU Drum Line, we weren't stopping anyone Saturday. It has less to do with KU's offense - it has a WHOLE LOT to do with the fact that our kids have given up.

Let's stop blaming anyone/anything on the KU sideline for Nebraska's failures.

  2. I wish the national media would stop writing stories about Nebraskans and Nebraska Fans as if they know us. They don't know us, they have very little in common with us, and they couldn't care less about us unless we can sell their story. I've just about had enough of people who have zero idea what we're about writing stories about Husker Fans.

  3. Here’s why we have been dubbed – by OTHER fans, the media, etc. – some of the greatest fans in the country:

Memorial Stadium is a safe place for friend and “foe” alike. No matter the opponent, you’re safe in our stadium. Your cars will not be molested while you’re at the game. You will not be assaulted on our streets. You are far more likely to be given a beer than given the finger while walking through our tailgate sections. When you come to dinner at a local restaurant after the game, you are welcomed, you are seated when it’s your turn to be seated, and you will not have to worry about “extras” in your food. Your beer will be cold, your food hot, and neither will differ in any way from the food given to the Husker fans at the table next door.

Your team will likewise receive the same treatment. Whether it’s Middle Tennessee State or Oklahoma, we treat you with respect when you’re here. I work a block from the hotel where most visiting teams stay, and several Fridays per year I’ll see players walking around downtown. They are safe here. They are far more likely to suffer severe cases of boredom than to ever hear a denigrating word in their direction. When they get off the bus on their way to the locker room, there’s likely to be a little bit of good-natured booing, but that’s usually drowned out by polite clapping. They’ll get another smattering of polite applause when they come out for warmups, and throughout the game they’ll usually hear no worse than a few loud boos, and a LOT of “HUSKER!! POWER!!” It is our wish that they leave the stadium with ringing ears, preferably to cheers for our Huskers’ good play. At the end of the game, whether we win or lose, blow them out or get blown out, that team will walk off the field to a standing ovation. It happened to USC, it happened to Ball State, it happened to Iowa State and Oklahoma State. This Saturday Kansas State will leave to the same ovation. That’s who we are. That’s what we do.

There is no place in America that treats its opponents with such class. Truly, there is no place like Nebraska.

Now, are there idiots out there, guys wearing Husker Red, who say stupid things to opponents, our players and our coaches? Absolutely. To expect EVERY SINGLE PERSON wearing Husker Red to be “the greatest fan ever” is ridiculous. There are bad guys everywhere. Lincoln is no exception.

What makes us different is that those fools are not just in the minority, they’re damned near nonexistent. For every inevitable guy like that you can show me, I can show you 1,000 Husker Fans who know good sportsmanship and who exhibit it each and every day.

That is what sets us apart from the crowd. That is what makes us the Greatest College Football Fans in America. You can go across this country on Saturdays in Fall and find places with fans who are just as passionate, just ask knowledgeable, just as friendly as those here in Lincoln, Nebraska.

But you will not find anyone, anywhere who outclasses us.

  4. Talented players know how to make a tackle and pursue....these guys (okay, I'm focusing on defense) stand around and could tackle a grandmother walking across an intersection. I will say that we have a couple talented players...but for the most part, this is not a talented group of football players

Then if I'm such a "moron," why was Bob Stoops able to take players just like Nebraska has now and turn that program around to go 7-5 in his first year and win the MNC in his second year?

Is it possible... just possible... that you're speaking more from your level of frustration rather than actual knowledge? I'm going to go ahead and guess "yes" on that one, thanks.

  5. Look, I'm sorry if you people have no concept of what a football program should be beyond what you watch on TV every Saturday, but anyone who thinks this Husker team has no talent is an idiot, plain and simple.

Further, anyone who thinks that simply having talent will make up for an entire coaching staff's stupid philosophy is also an idiot. This team is fully of very talented players. Unfortunately, this coaching staff has no idea what they're doing, and that will negate talent 100% of the time.

Here's an analogy for those of you who don't know much about much: Let's say I'm baking a cake and making my own frosting. I buy all the best ingredients, but I put the cake flour in the frosting bowl and the lard for the frosting into the cake batter.

Still think it's going to turn out OK?

    Get it?

We have talent. Not tons, and we're not LSU or Oklahoma. I'm not saying that. I'm saying that there are great players on this team, on offense and defense, but no matter how good these players are this coaching staff will NEVER allow them to play to their potential.

And anyone who thinks it will take multiple years to turn this team around is an idiot. Look what Bob Stoops did with Oklahoma in ONE YEAR. He took a team that had three straight losing seasons and in his first year went 7-5 and went to a bowl game. Anyone care to guess what he did in his second year there?

Don't tell me it'll take years and years to turn this team around. It's been done before and it can happen here.

  6. All of the above, sadly.

It's important to note that the "Husker Power" we all grew up with is gone. When Callahan came in he brought in his own Strength & Conditioning coach, and just like everything else he changed, the change worked for the worse, not the better.

Combine that with this joke of a defensive staff we have, and the staff-wide Pro-Style concept of no contact during weekly practices, and you have a recipe for disaster.

  7. Come on, Doom & Gloomers! With the right coaching staff in place this team can seriously make a 180-degree turn in one season. We have a LOT of talent on the field. Do not blame the players for this coaching staff's inability to properly utilize them.

You watch - next year, with the right coaching staff, this could be a scary good team.

It will take more than a year to put in a new system. The players that are playing now, will have to be deprogrammed and retrained in basic fundamentals. This is not a one year fix.

Maybe it'll take two years. But it's not going to take another four, that's for sure.

I can guarantee you that this team will be remarkably better with the same players simply by changing coaches.

The bottom line of what I'm getting at is that it's not the players' fault. It's the coaches' fault. Getting new coaches will make a world of difference.

  8. Nebraska never "ran up the score" on Kansas, and they weren't "running up the score" on us.

It's simply a matter of the defense being completely incapable of stopping their opponent. For 40 years it was Kansas. Now it's Nebraska.

We've seen enough of this to know what's going on, Husker fans. Let's not let pride and sour grapes get in the way of a fine performance by Kansas and an equally poor performance by Nebraska.

  9. I seem to remember when we beat Minnesota 84-?? back in the 80's we kept most of starters in until the forth quarter...

After this drive, then YES i agree they should have there 2nd or 3rd string in the game...

You're not remembering that game very well. We could only take a limited number of players on our travel squad. That game was a worse track meet than this one. We were up and down the field on the Gophers. We had our second string in sometime early in the second quarter, our third string in before half (what we could bring of them), and we kept our second and third units in until the fourth quarter, when we had to start bringing our first string back in because our other players were tired.

I think we had like 7,000 yards of offense in that game (and that's only a slight exaggeration).

The only reason we played any of our first string in the second half of that game was to give our backups rest. No lie.

  11. If anyone had told me we would score 24 points on Kansas in the first half, I'd have been ecstatic, and I would have expected to be very much in the game.

I would love for Coach Osborne to - just this once - go back on his word and fire that abomination of a Defensive Coordinator as soon as the gun sounds on this game.

  12. I have to say, both these guys are great fighters and outstanding leaders/faces to our programs for these past three years. I couldn't be more happy that we have had Taylor, Keller, and now Ganz.

Sadly, I think Keller would have benefited from just one more season and wasn't completely ready. Taylor was much improved in year 2 over year 1. Taylor was a great player and one of my recent favorites.

Let's see...Taylor got two full seasons to play and Keller just 9 games. Don't think one can really do a fair comparison. If I remember correctly from another thread, Keller's first year numbers are better than Zac's, so if Keller had a second year, he might improve even further.

I like both guys, but in the end I probably would probably go with Taylor just because of the toughness that we saw from him...again, Keller really does not have the opportunity to make that same kind of impression.

Some great replies to the question up there. ^^^ I would liked to have seen what Sam could have done with a second year, but even still I'm not sure he would have surpassed Zac. Taylor is a special guy, the kind of QB you don't see very often.

In the end, I'm just glad both came to play for Nebraska.

    NEITHER!!!!!!!!!

There both rejects or drop-outs from other D-1 programs.

They couldn't cut it there but here there a starter.

You really should state ahead of time that you're a blithering idiot before making posts this stupid. Not only can you not spell, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Thank goodness you're not indicative of the average Husker fan.

  13. Without Keller we would have never been able to score on that 1st drive. Ganz was able to run the option on the 3rd & 6 and then that 3 yard TD run when the pass broke down was great.

Our offense is doing great, our Defense just sucks.

This is very true. Keller is a good QB. It's just possible that Ganz is better.

I will not disrespect the heart and guts Sam Keller showed in his brief time here.

  14. I have the game on tape delay to edit out commercials and I just got done with the first half. That was at the same time the best and worst half of football I've seen us play all year! ! ! ! ! !

Offense - GREAT job! Ganz is a dream! A couple of drops cost him some numbers, and he's thrown a couple of dangerous passes, but overall he has been remarkable. I am SO happy with him.

Defense - That was perhaps the worst defensive half I have ever seen, Texas Tech included, and I don't ever even want to hear the name of our future former DC again. The man is a complete fraud.

What is perhaps most shocking is that the first half featured what may have been the best single effort by an NU defender this year - Andre Jones' tackle where he fought through the WR and tackled the screen man for a loss. Amazing play.

The sad thing about that play? We used to have 5-10 of those every game.

I would like to see T.O. fire our DC right now, before the game is even over. That would be awesome, and only what the man deserves.

  15. I have to say that I'm a smidge concerned about this right after the Texas loss. Maybe there's a bit of a hangover from the Texas match, but we've lost more games in the last two matches than we've lost in the previous 30 matches combined!

This is not the worst time for a slump (pre-tournament), but it's not exactly a GOOD time for one, either.

Does anyone know if Jordan will be attending NU. If there is one family that knows and could teach the rest of this team about what it means to play football at NU it would be the Makovicka's. It looks like we probably will see numerous other Makovicka's wearing the "N" as there are already 5 grandsons.......WOW! I can't wait.

    God bless the Makovickas!!! :clap

Any time anyone from that family wants to suit up, I say we let them.
