and now he is a head coach at a Division 1 school. Shawn Watson has a losing record as a head coach. Colorado was OVERJOYED at seeing him leave. He was a key cog in the most toxic staff to ever set foot in the Osborne Athletic Complex. And in the rebuilding effort, his charges have been found consistently wanting. I hope Bo has significant pull, because coaches, especially new, young, fresh guys, are a dime a dozen. And Shawn Watson has plague written all over him. Its not taking this long just because contractual agreements are being worked out. I can't believe I'm about to defend Watson, but here it goes. Just because he has been a bad OC doesn't mean he can't be an effective position coach. Remember that Callahan, while a terrible HC, is an excellent OL coach. I think Wats could make a solid QB coach. Listen to any QB he has ever coached and the guy will describe Watson as being an amazing coach and genius at the QB position. This doesn't mean these former QBs are correct, but the fact that they all - to a man - speak extremely highly of Wats makes me think the guy could be a good QB coach. Now please excuse me while I go scrub my keyboard after typing this Watson defense.

If I might chime in, the kind of offense were running in 2010 was going to be the stuff we saw in the Holiday Bowl, something which has been more or less confirmed by Niles Paul (and I think Watson himself spoke on it). Plainly, it is not the offense we actually ran in 2010. A change occurred and you could argue how major it was, I'd say it is fairly significant. Niles even said recently on 1620 (USC) that they were all set to run the Holiday Bowl offense this season until the end of fall camp, when the coaches (he didn't specify Bo or Wats) suddenly changed it to suit Taylor. It was obvious that Niles was pissed about this and how it affected him and the other WRs.

This is mostly trash. He makes two critical mistakes, IMO. First, he seems to be mixing the Sanders and Watson/Gilmore issues together, which is a huge mistake. Watson/Gilmore is about on-the-job performance; Sanders is about extra-curricular stuff. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard any offensive recruits come out and say they were mislead about the impending coaching changes on that front. Indeed, did not Jamaal Turner and/or Ameer Abdullah state that they understood coaching changes were underway? As for Sanders, there are many perfectly good reasons to keep things under wraps. For one, if you believe the rumors coming out about this, it appears that Sanders may have transgressed in a way that is embarrassing if not illegal. I think it's not unreasonable that Bo might have wanted to keep quiet about that situation. Should Bo have advised CJ that Sanders was likely going to resign and that they were bringing in a replacement? Probably. But this was almost a lose-lose scenario. If you tell him that Sanders is resigning, he's going to want to know why. If you don't tell him, it is going to look shady and he will think you aren't being straight with him. If you don't tell him anything and he finds out Sanders has left after he send his LOI, then he thinks you aren't being straight with him. So, again, it was a lose-lose. And, in any event, CJ has already indicated that the loss of Sanders has not impacted his decision to come to Nebraska. The second mistake this article makes is to suggest that anyone was actually injured in this. We all know Watson has been applying for every coaching position that's been open. And, as said before, no recruits other than CJ have indicated they felt misled, and even he is said that he would have come to Nebraska anyway. This makes this whole ordeal much ado about nothing. It absolutely could have and should have been handled better and I think Bo takes the secrecy thing too far for his own good, but it is being blown WAY out of proportion. Very well said. You just saved me some time in writing a lengthy post. Anyone who has followed Nebraska recruiting even somewhat closely these last couple of months has known for a while that (1) at least Watson was out, (2) the offense was going in an Oregon spread direction, and (3) the affected recruits were well aware of these changes and some of them even let it slip in their interviews. The article's author clearly didn't do his homework on this. I certainly don't think Bo handled this very well at all, but this is just sloppy journalism.

No clue, but the timing would be strange if true considering Brown is the Special Guest at a Nebraska Alumni event in March. Northeast Kansans 4 Nebraska I saw that and had the same thought initially, though I imagine he would still be a guest speaker draw throughout the state for the rest of his life - both because of his strong history with the program and his ability to captivate and motive a crowd with his talks. Dude makes me want to go tackle somebody whenever I hear him speak. So I don't think that scheduled event necessarily means he's staying on staff, though I hope it does. I'm inclined to agree with bournehusker here. Perhaps due to the rumored re-shuffling of the staff, maybe he's moved into a new office? It wouldn't surprise me if Brown is taking over the Recruiting Coordinator duties, therefore moving into Gilmore's old office? I have no clue on this but is Gilmore's office near the Compliance office? Pretty sure RC's have to keep in touch regularly with compliance staff, no? I hope you're right. I know there has been mentions on here about Brown retiring, though that thread quickly devolved into an immature argument about religion. Not looking for that to be revived here.

And even if Sipple knows more than anyone else, he has to weigh the fact that he can't go and publicy say anything that Bo doesn't want him to say and piss Bo off. He would get cut off and I don't think he want's that. I don't think it's so much that Sipple doesn't want to piss Bo off, and more the fact that any sources he has are probably off the record (meaning he can't print), or only as strong as the rumors you see on here (meaning he can't print). I think anything those guys have that is strong enough to put in print, they do. If Sipple was simply too afraid of Bo to write anything, you wouldn't have seen an article where they cited anonymous sources concerning contact with both Frost and Warriner. Right. As Kevin Kugler has frequently said, Sipple doesn't say something unless he has it on very good authority. I don't always agree with Sip's opinions - especially on Wats - but I really respect how careful he is about what he reports. So when Sip says that he's hearing that Warinner is falling off the radar, I take that seriously. Who's hating on Frost? Or do you consider pointing out that Frost has much less experience than Warinner to be "hating on him"? No. But I think it's uncool to call him greedy or unloyal for wanting the coordinator job. I'll agree with that.

Im guessing it depends on who is hired, their could be some resuffling of current staff to different positions. If Warinner gets hired I could see Barney moving to TEs Brown moving to WRs and Warinner coaches the Oline, with Beck coaching either RBs or QBs, or both. Its really tough to say right now, with it will sort itself out. That's true. And it sounds like at least at first Bo was trying to get Frost to come over to be the WR coach, though apparently Frost didn't bite on that. Maybe your reshuffling idea is Bo's plan B.

Not to get us off topic on this thread, but with all of the speculation about potential OCs, has anyone heard any names of possible for the WR position? Kind of surprising how that hasn't really been discussed much, especially with the expectation that Bo will unveil all of the new hires at once sometime next week.

Reesing definitely wasn't turtle-like, but granted he was no Martinez or Turner. Just because he had Reesing at Kansas doesn't mean that's the only kind of QB he can work with. Remember that he also coached at Army, Air Force, and Illinois. He's worked in offensive systems with various kinds of QBs. I doubt Bo would bring him here if he refused to play more athletic QBs and only wanted guys like Reesing running his offense. Remember also that he didn't exactly have his pick of the litter in recruiting for Kansas. And even then KU had a very prolific offense. I'd take that any day. I'm not belittling Frost in any way. I just think NU fans shouldn't be too quick to shoot down the benefits of Warinner being OC or co-OC.

Good point. And note from his bio that he has coached O-lines at a bunch of run-happy schools. And he has done it effectively. That would align with Bo's apparently desire to move even more to a run-oriented version of the spread.

Warinner isn't going anywhere. He is happy at Noter Dame. Frost is definetely a leading canidate. I haven't checked on Jason Phillips in a few days, but last time I checked, he was a priority. I wouldn't count out Warinner so quickly at all. He has a past connection to Beck and tangentially to Bo through the Mangino-Ohio ties. And we know that Bo and Carl have a ton of respect for his offenses. I doubt Warinner is happy staying a position coach the rest of his career. I'm still skeptical that Frost will leave UO, though I think it would be exciting as hell having him on the staff in some capacity. I just don't know if Bo is willing to give him the offensive authority Frost wants. But in the last 24 hours we have seen reports from the LJS and OWH that talks with Frost and now Warinner have slowed. Probably just part of the negotiating process, like when talks between the Yankees and Jeter "broke down." I would say the smart money is on Warinner.

Wonder if that means Frost is on the line? Not sure, but Mitch Sherman suggested that talks have slowed recently between Frost and NU, though it sounds like the sticking point was the level of position offered. By the sound of it, it really doesn't seem like Frost will leave UO to be NU's OC, either because Bo isn't offering enough responsibility or because UO will do whatever it can to keep him in Eugene. Of course it's still possible, but it just seems like an uphill battle that I don't know if either side with willing to fight.

I doubt if they posted the job to collect resumes. This an open valid job at the Univ. of Nebraska at Lincoln. Actually I was wrong. The VALID job description is not from an ATS. It's a job descrition most likely posted through their HRIS/ HRMS. That's not true. Sadly, there are a handful of jobs that I have applied for in the last several months where the employer has contacted me to notify me that they have already hired another applicant, but the posting is still up (stating "open until filled"). And these are university jobs I have applied for. I highly doubt they would forget to remove the football assistant coach application 3 weeks after the hiring is announced. You think the minute they hire someone its gonna disappear just like that, before its announced to the public. Considering how much attention it has gotten today they will probably let linger on their for a couple days after the decision is made. Then after the big press conference, they will take it off. As I said before on this thread, I think Bo has already made the "hire" unofficially. I think this posting will disappear in a couple of days - however many days it needs to be posted in order to meet the university's HR requirements.
