Of course, but I wonder if he might be a little... behind the times with what teams are running these days? I remember shortly after Diaco was hired, there was a quote from McBride that said "He knows way more about pass coverages than I ever did - we just didn't face these kind of modern passing offenses back when I was coaching." Guess it depends what exactly is expected of him in his position...

Looking up some info, it looks like he hasn't coached in ten years?

I think for a lot of people, their view really boils down to "I've come to view mediocrity as normal. It's not that I like it, but I see mediocrity as the rule for Nebraska, and not the exception." They've internalized the suck, and made peace with it.
Still makes me sick to my stomach, though...

The only asserting statements made were that Zac Lee was a passing quarterback (use your deductive skills to understand this to mean a non-dual threat, pass first type of player), and that he was a good passer when he was healthy.
We did let him run the zone read though! And when he kept it, whoow doggy, he did make some plays...usually because nooooooobody would ever believe he was going to keep the ball!
I remember one game when he ran it and got clobbered. They had a camera on him, and he had a big ol' smile on his face when he got up.

There ain't a single person that owns one of those boxes that wouldn't give Osborne a seat in theirs.

On a side note, I'm glad they decided last year to bring back the script Huskers logo and get rid of this abomination:

I think Nebraska should make these 97-throwback uniforms along with the 1962-throwback uniforms part of a permanent rotation when we want to do an alternate uniform game.
I could live with a regular rotation throughout the season of jerseys like these that are relatively minor variations on the standard theme, and not wildly-different 'alternates'.

^ Really, though, it's only a few years until the 50th anniversary of those teams...

I'd like to hear him call out his own coaches on that, too...
That thought crossed my mind too. But I don't think he is in the habit of calling out individuals. He never specifically called out Banker or Reed last year but he did repeatedly talk about the need to be better in their areas.
Something like "we as a staff need to improve and put them in a position to succeed" would have worked without calling anyone out specifically.

I just watch at a sports bar where the local UNL Alumni Association hosts their watch parties. Even if I have dinner there a few weekends a month during the fall, it's still cheaper than a cable plan with all the channels that Husker games are shown on.

I hope the mesh holes aren't too big. They should be kind of subtle if these are going to be worn every week.
Pretty sure this is a throwback/alternate. The normal game jerseys look the same
Dat baseball champs shirt, tho!

So in your opinion, AD's have one shot to get it right if the person that hired them is no longer around. Forget all other Athletics, they have one shot to hire a guy who can win championships in Football or they are fired along with that guy.
I'm not disagreeing that this happens. I'm not disagreeing that this could happen to ADSE. I am disagreeing that it's automatic.
I have always thought that was a pretty idiotic way to look at your AD.
Fans who think it should be like that are only looking at it through emotional fan base eyes.
No, it's looking at it from the bottom line of the business. Football pays the bills for pretty much everything in the athletic department, if that disappears then so does a lot of other things. If the manager can't keep a business's moneymaker going, then he's failed at his real job, no matter how great he is as a person or how much he supported all of the other parts of the business that aren't making money.

Huskers' Trophy Room
You know, they do still give the crystal footballs (AFCA Coaches' Trophy). Wonder where they'd put it...

Ultimately, SE was not hired to fire Bo and change the culture. SE was hired to grow the brand and success of Nebraska football.
The guy who hired SE is gone, though...

I consider 8-4 a failure
It boggles my mind that any Husker fans would feel otherwise about an 8-win season...

I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic about the season as a whole and overall future outlook, but wary about the near-term because of all the transitions this year and inexperience at several positions.

The RBs are actually pretty good. It's not their fault that the plays called for them don't favor their strengths. That's on the OC & HC.
That, and a weak OL. The backs are there for a good ground game, but I'm less than convinced that we'll see it anytime soon.

^ Probably just overlapping, like 2 on Omaha or something. Anyone wanna look up the towns?
None in Colorado or Minnesota would seem to be a statistical oddity.
Or Washington.

So he had enough to be a partial qualifier at Nebraska, but that wasn't good enough for him? A PQ is kinda like a forced redshirt, isn't it? So I guess if he wanted to play this year instead, he gets to be a starter at... Arizona Western.

That's probably true of most major offensive schemes. There's the option, of course, and spread offenses. But it's also true of the West Coast Offense that so many revile and say that it requires elite players. Bill Walsh didn't have a QB with a cannon for an arm or speedy receivers that could get downfield quickly, so he developed a system that emphasized short, precise, horizontal plays instead of going vertical so much.
