JFC, will this please stop? The bolded was not done for, nor was it related to, the recruitment of Dylan. Donovan was the only assistant whose contract is set to expire after this past season since he was retained on his original contract that had 1 year left. Donovan is clearly doing a good job and Rhule likes him a lot and wanted to keep him, thus an extension and a raise to recognize the good job he has done this year.
—edit—
It has also been reported that Donovan’s extension was done a few weeks ago, before Dylan came back into the picture.
He's also currently sitting at #6 on 247's recruiter rankings.

Was shocked to see the number 2 recruit in all the nation only bumped us to the 23rd ranked recruiting class.
Here's the thing to understand about recruiting: there's haves and there's have-nots. The have-nots take 4- and 5-star guys when they can get them, while the haves fill the majority of their classes with them.
Nebraska basically sits at the high end of the have-nots. But the thing is, even in a good year, that doesn't mean that we're particularly close to being one of the haves. We'd need to start bringing in blue-chip guys at about double the rate that we currently do to really join the upper tier of college football recruiting, not just one or two more per year.
This is kind of a downer of a post in a really happy thread, but...

I wouldn't hate it if this actually happens... Thompson would've been a decent upgrade over any of our QBs this year. Could this mean HH going back to TE?
Sounds like he met with Rhule today, and it's happening.

Yeah, Kemp was a sixth-year senior, his previous five being at Virginia.

So who's in town besides the Raiolas? They didn't just get into Lincoln tonight...

HH shouldn't be in the conversation as a starter
If HH is even in the conversation as a QB, we have a problem.

Somebody leaked pics of Raiola's commit video being shot. From the angle, it had to be somebody up in one of the boxes in the stadium. Can't we just have a little patience and let him have his moment? And maybe a little privacy?
(Though this does make what I heard earlier about the commit vid being released Sunday seem more likely...)

Georgia is having a last-minute in-home visit with Dylan Raiola. All of a sudden, the lights go dark and Sirius starts playing as Donnie walks in from the kitchen.

1. Nebraska told Kyle McCord no thanks.
Farrell’s take: FACT
With 5-star QB Dylan Raiola seemingly coming in, Matt Rhule and company wanted to focus on the young guy and build the offense around him. While McCord was tempting, balance in the QB room would be off with McCord wanting a guarantee he’s the starter and Nebraska excited about Raiola playing as a freshman. This just wouldn’t have worked out for all parties.
And an observation from Farrell after posting the above article...

Poor guy has to go incognito now that Raiola is N. That, or he's given up on football and he's decided to take up a new career by following in Arik Gilbert's footsteps.

Off topic but I guess as of now Kaelin's still N.

Saw one claim that the commit video will drop on Sunday. Maybe trying to bundle the hype with the volleyball championship? IDK, think I'd rather just let vball have the day. Guess we'll see...

Wasn’t Baker Steinkuler (SP?) a five star? He was ok but again never a difference maker.
Baker should've been left on OL (which he was 5*'d as) instead of being moved to DL.

What’s the real story here as we have conflicting ones. If McCord’s dad didn’t want to compete with Raiola then we should hear that Raiola is N, right? Also if Raiola is OK competing are we still looking for a QB that fits more of a bridge role?
Yeah, Raiola is N. He'll be arriving for his weekend OV soon, and they'll be shooting a commitment announcement video when he gets there.
As far as the competition side goes, it sounds like Raiola is OK with not being guaranteed the starting job this year, he just wants a legit chance to compete for it (probably not happening at Georgia if Beck comes back). As for the McCords, I think they (and particularly his dad) were OK with a QB competition until they saw who the competition was going to be. Dad got panicky and started making more demands, and apparently it reached the point where Rhule threw up his hands and said we're not gonna be able to do this.
As far as another 1-year bridge guys goes, I haven't heard any names. But look at that tweet I posted about Cam Ward - he didn't just name drop us out of the blue, you know? Rhule is probably trying to get in the ear of any top portal QB who will listen, with whatever dollar figure 1890 can provide.

If we let McCord walk out the door because Raiola might possibly flip, get ready.
If the rumors are correct, Kyle and Dylan were both OK with whatever arrangement Rhule was proposing. It was McCord's dad, who thinks he knows what's best for Kyle better than Kyle does, who threw a fit...
