  1. Maybe people with the "wait and see" attitude are fans of the University of Nebraska no matter who the coach, record, system. Osborne did things I didn't agree with so did Solich and so does Callahan.(like Cosgrove) But at the end of the day can any of us actually change what is been/being done? No we can't, so sitting around crapping and moaning about things instead of cheering for a win is pretty childish. The option is gone I think it is time to move on.

Oh and couldn't you say that some of the people with negative attitudes just want to see Callahan fail so they can say "I told you so".

So, the fans with the wait and see attitude are willing to, "man their ankles, and prepare to be boarded". You make the fans who are willing to wait and see seem like mindless automatons.

I'm giving him one more year. That's friggin it. I can't take anymore. Watching Big Red football with Bill Callahan at the helm, is like passing a stone. VERY PAINFUL. He just can't coach, bottom line, end of friggin list.

What has he done this year, anybody???

  2. If you consider yourself to be a Cornhusker fan. Do you?

This is what cracks me up. People say things to me like the afore mentioned quote, makes me wonder this...

Are those of you who are willing to take the "wait and see" approach with Bill Callahan, going to sing the same tune, if he buries our beloved football team? I'm inclined to believe that every one with an optimistic attitude, hope he does well, so they can tell folks like myself, "I told you so".

See, the whole thing is, our team does suck right now. When was the last time we were 5-5 at this point in the season? What was the last year where we were only playing .500 ball, at this point of the season. I'm willing to bet the farm that almost none of us were.

Until the "train wreck" of 2002, yes, we were all spoiled. But, is it wrong to expect a certain excellence from your football team? Or, is it ok to be complacent, and hope that things will get better, when at this point, we're going to hell in a handbasket, with gasoline pants on, and Callahan's driving the bus...

  3. I know Callahan's only been here a year, but he seriously needs to get his ducks in a row, or he's going to coach himself right out of a job. If he's losing kids now, no matter what the criteria, what does this say to the rest of the team? He can't coach, and he's a cancer to our team. Little by little, our team is wasting away until there's nothing left.

  4. QUOTE

um, for those of you kids not following along, the Nebraska Cornhuskers suck this year...

It's always good to see undying optimism from Cornhusker fans. If you consider yourself to be a Cornhusker fan. Do you? If so, how can you constantly remain so optimistic about this sorry joke of a season that we're putting together right now? I just don't get why you would say we're doing so well...

I have a lot of optimism. Only our coach bites, our D-coordinator bites, the WCO bites, and our AD bites.

  5. Aging recievers that wouldn't take a lesser role for the benefit of the team. I would consider that being a joker. Just becaue they are two of the greats doesn't mean they shouldn't know their role in the gameplan

See, every one talks about Brown and Rice on that Raider team, but they all forget about Jerry Porter. He didn't have as many catches or yards, but he did lead the team in TD's and was possibly the most explosive receiver on the team.

  6. Since i'm not out there in thick of all the "scuttlebut", do we have somebody on the squad that's capable, or actively recruiting someone who could run this horror show?

If Dailey is allowed to continue to run the offense, then this reinforces my point about Callahan being an idiot. He has no sense of "adaptability", if that's even a word, but you get my point.

Adding insult to injury, I think the Solich offenses (should be committed for saying that) were better than what we have now. Although, both Callahan and Solich have the penchant for wanting to call a draw play on 3rd and long which will forever baffle me.

  7. Just because Gruden knew exactly what Callhan was doing doesn't make Callahan a bad coach. Most coaches know exactly what plays are going to be run, but it takes the players to go out and execute the game plan. Bill took the Raiders to the super bowl because he got all 53 players to play together as a team and they had a great season. It takes more than one player to play good to get the team to a super bowl. Example: Corey Dillion with the Bengals.

Yes it does, because Callahan didn't change his game plan in the least. Unless you have the ability to "improvise, adapt, and overcome", you are going to suck as a coach, no matter what sport, no matter what level of competition. Callahan has shown, time and time again, his inability to make critical adjustments that could have an affect on the outcome of a game.

I wasn't comparing the turnover rate of players between the pros and college. I was saying that because the turnover rate of players in PRO is so high. It makes it really difficult for any coach (Gruden, Seifert, Parcells) to keep a team at the top of the league.

It's because once you get out of college, these guys become selfish, conceited bastards who make their money and lose their integrity, and only care about being on MTV cribs, or a chunky soup commercial.

For you to state that Nebraska is not going to improve, is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that we will get better because we have better athletes coming in. Athletes that want to win, athletes that have some fire in them, athletes that will step up and lead by example and express their voice. We do not have some of those things these year. We are taking the steps that need to be taken right now.

Yes, it is my opinion, but one I strongly believe in, due to the fact of the ineffectiveness of our current coach. We can have the best athletes in the world, but unless you have a coach that can get them to utilitze their potential, then their just mediocre players.

Are you saying we've got kids with no fire? Some members of the defense from the year prior to this one, might have something to say about that. Now, these are the same kids, but under a different coach. If anyone disagrees with me, look at the way our kids played in 2003, and then the ones that carried over to this years team. Tell me then that our kids don't have fire...

  8. He got the team to the super bowl that we are suppose to watch. That should mean something. If you are going to point at the fact that his next season was 4-12, it holds no water. With free agency in the NFL, parody is common. Tampa Bay didn't get back to the playoffs the year after they won the super bowl. Is Gruden a bad coach then? What about Carolina this year? Is their coach bad? No! The turnover in players is way to common in the NFL and it is just too hard with salary cap restriction to be at the top of the game for that long. New England has done an exceptional job but their run may be ending soon. Coaches need some time to get their system in place before the records start to show improvements. I see a ton of people are trying to compare Callahan to Stoops, but maybe a better comparison would be to Franchoine of A&M. He was suppose to do wonders last year and he didn't meet those expectations. But this year the record shows that he is improving that team. He does not have them where they want to be yet because it takes a few years to get there. Lets give Callahan a few years to show us what he can do. If at that time he has shown no improvements, then lets go a different direction, but not until then.

Then apparently you don't remember the game. At one point, sometime during the first half, John Lynch walked over to Gruden and said, "they have run everything we expected them to". And the game reflected that. Callahan kept calling pass plays that managed to put the Raiders deeper and deeper in a hole. The reason they got to the superbowl was that Gannon was playing on another level all season. By the way, look up the word "parody", becuase 4-12 is NOT parody.

And as for trying to compare the turnover of players between the pro and college level is moot. You know, on the average, kids in college will be there for 4 years, and somebody in the pro's could be done after 1 season. This is essentially the NFL's "developmental league", so there is no way that what you stated earlier is remotely connected to the ability, or lack there of, of the coach

Giving Callahan a few years is going to be the end of us as a respectable force. Not like were remotely there right now, but I digress. These few years are going to drive us into the ground.

Ok, say we beat colorado, we're 6-5, and hopefully going to a bowl. Do you realistically think that next year we're going to improve? That we're going to recruit well enough, or that the players that we have will improve enough, under Callahan's tutelage, that we'll go 8-3 next year? If you're sold on that, then you might be in for a horribly rude awakening when were at the same place next year, that we're in right now.

His recruiting prowess means nothing when you can't motivate your team to come out against your arch-rival and make it remotely look like a game. That 30-3 loss was more demeaning to me that the 70 pts that the Red Raiders put up against us. This is Oklahoma. This is one of the most storied rivalries in college football. If you can't get your team to out, and look like they give a damn against OU, then you've got no business being a Nebraska football coach.

The worst part is, we proabably have to keep Callahan, because which coach out there, would actually be able to come in, and fix what this idiot has broken? None that I can think of. So, thanks to Pedersen, we're as doomed as doomed can be.

  9. QUOTE (walksalone @ Nov 15 2004, 01:48 PM)

Nebraska people are a spoiled bunch

A wise man once said, if it's not broken, don't fix it.

    Well, it was broke.

Well, what was so broken about it? I mean, here's your chance to either look like a genius or, a nitwit...

How has Callahan enriched our team, our style of play, and our winning tradition? Oh, wait, this is where you say, "he's not even been here a full season". Well, so far this year he's managed to get beat by Texas Tech, Southern Miss, Iowa State, not too mention, almost losing to Pitt and Kansas.

We're lucky we're not 3-7. Would you be singing the same tune if that were the case?

Finally, Callahan has set a precedent. Usually you hear about one of the kids on our team getting rowdy, and getting into trouble. Now it's the coach making an ass out himself, when he's older and should know better. You don't say anything to the a**hole OU fans, but you make it a point to pound the sh*t out of them next year when they come to Lincoln.

  10. Callahan sucks. Pedersen sucks. Cosgrove sucks. Solich Sucks.

Let's give him a couple years so he can really bury our program. Let's let Callahan coach until Baylor is a more respectable team than we are.

Callahan sucks as a coach. Now, if you want to defend him, watch a replay of the Bucs/Raiders superbowl, and that is a perfect example of the sorry son of a bitch that's coaching our team. The man can't coach. If you would have hired him as a recruiter, I would have been fine with that. But no, he's going put our beloved football program over the proverbial barrel...
