Anything?  My experience seems to be a little different than that usually.

I was even smaller than these two as a teenager and LOVED to hit...But I still hurt sometimes from when Jay Novacek ran over me as an oversized QB at Gothenburg on his way to becoming an NFL TE. I think he was even 6'4 235 at the time.

Edit:  Carriker mentioned Marvin Scott tonight...Played varsity as an 8th grader, Dead lifts 295, Benches 405#  Maybe that tweet video didn't do him justice...

    That can't be right.

We've tried to ride that trend the last 17 years and the results haven't been great.  Maybe go back to valuing size and power and see what happens?

It's not like we're obligated to value the same thing as the rest of the country.  Tom never did it that way.  He had some pretty good success, if I recall correctly.

I'm a little confused.  Are we talking about specific positions here?  I remember having a lot of sad January's as I watched our Huskers get destroyed by faster Miami and Florida State teams.  Tom finally decided to get faster guys, specificially on defense, and the rest is history.

  3. I googled "peter gammons bo pelini" and all I found was a tweet from Gammons stating Bo was "going off" on the Starling family.  That's a long ways from doing cookies in their yard....though I really like that story.

My biggest worry is if colleges starry paying athletes, then they’ll have to pay all athletes. And if they have to pay all athletes then sports like baseball, softball and wrestling to name a few will get cut in order to keep the bottom line as close to what it was as possible. Sure due to title nine a lot of women’s sports will have to stay around, but for so many kids that aren’t football or basketball players their opportunity to get college paid for by competing in a sport they love and have spent years honing their craft in may get taken away. We really need to take a step back and look at the whole pie here. I understand and don’t necessarily disagree with the thought process behind paying athletes, but with as cut throat as the NCAA is and by proxy these schools are, I don’t think risking all these other kids opportunities in other sports are worth it. Remember just a short time ago how Nebraska Omaha lost there stellar wrestling program and competitive football program in order for the school to move up a classification. And that was D2 kids who weren’t on a full scholarship and we’re already paying for some of the costs of college. People were pissed about the situation, and a lot of kids suffered. I’d hate for the situation to become widespread across college athletics

That's my worry, too.  But with that said, they can go to a model where they break even.  $10 for a seat.  A few bucks for TV telecasts.  But we all know they won't go there.  Saban isn't coaching Alabama for 55K+benefits.

Think about this.  In a lot if not most states, the football coach is the highest paid public employee by a wide margin.  I just googled "highest paid public employee alabama" and the top 2 are.................................Nick Saban and Gus Malzahn.

What's to stop schools from literally bidding for the top recruits? The new perennial power houses would be Texas, Michigan, and other schools that have a ton of money. You'd literally have teams buying players off of other teams. Again,it would just get too messy.

This is college football and not the NFL. I mean s#!t man, if that's the case, you might as well pay these damn kids in middle school and...... f#&% that..... kindergarten if we're so damn concerned about them getting injured or getting their "just dues" early.

When they start charging big money for seats at middle school games and the middle school is getting millions in TV revenue, I will expect the kids to get compensated as well.

Bo was a good Defensive Coordinator - in 2007 through about 2010.

Then people figured out his defense, made changes to how they attacked it, and he couldn't adjust.

A good DC doesn't get gashed on the ground year after year after year after year. They diagnose the problem in their scheme and fix it.

If it's a matter of personnel - that's on Bo, too. He's the coach, he's recruiting these guys.

This.  The Jet Sweep is his kryptonite.  I still have PTSD when I see Melvin Gordon.

From who? Who are you referring to that is giving him that praise erroneously?

We all know he didn't call plays. Nobody is arguing that he did. That doesn't mean he wasn't a great OC. That's not the only job of an OC. It is a huge managerial position day to day, which is over position coaches, gameplanning, film, practice habits, installing plays, identifying fronts and weaknesses from the press box, and so on.

Do you have specific knowledge of how good or bad Helfrich is at all of those things?

That is THE job of the OC and he didn't do it at Oregon or Chicago.  Chip controlled everything at Oregon and that's why there was such a dramatic downturn when he left.  For the Bears, he was the OC in name but was really the  run game coordinator per the Chicago Tribune.  As I stated before, his "success" at Oregon as the OC was really Chip and his "success" with Tribisky was really Matt Nagy.

Not trying to be a smart a$$, but you don't do what he did statistically (TD's, completion %, total yards) without some serious talent.  In listening to talking heads, he grasped the scheme quickly and can process incredibly fast.  I still think a lot of his success was Joe Brady.  Having a scheme designed around your talents didn't hurt.  Neither did the talent around him.

It will interesting watching how he does next year.  See if he was a product of a perfect storm at LSU.  His statistics were significantly better in 2019 than 2018.  Looked like a completely different guy playing QB statistically....

    Games/Attempts/Completions/Comp %/Yrsd attempt/Ave yards attempt/TD's/INT's/QB rating.

    *2018 LSU SEC JR QB 13 219 379 57.8 2894 7.6 7.9 16 5 133.2
    *2019 LSU SEC SR QB 15 402 527 76.3 5671 10.8 12.5 60 6 202.0

Joe Brady factor looks pretty positive.

Those are video game numbers.  Amazing.

I noticed that too but couldn't help but wonder if that ultimately hurts his NFL career. You don't get those same favorable matchups in the NFL.

Teams with an excellent receiver have these opportunities with their #2 guys.  When the Steelers had Antonio Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster had a ton of one on one opportunities and definitely took advantage of them.  Now as a #1, Juju struggled mightily. He was injured which may have been the culprit so we'll see next year if he can be a legitimate Batman or just a really good Robin.

  10. On a serious note, I enjoyed watching Burrow the past two games.  He recognized one on one opportunities and threw the ball allowing for his receiver to make a play.  So many college QB's look for guys who are open before delivering the ball.  Having good receivers helps, but he did what he needed to do.  It's a team game.  Let your teammates do some work.

What's the point of having an OC at all? Frost calls all the plays. I mean come on man the OC still does alot of work helping Frost accomplish what he wants to do on Saturdays.

I didn't say we didn't need an OC.  I'm wondering why people want Helfrich to be our OC.  As I've stated before, Helfrich gets a lot of praise for work done by others.
