Doctalk with Rob Zatechka gave his opinion of Chin. A good listen. Chin doesn’t understand the intricacies of the 3-4 and how to attack with it.

Chin needs to visit the Steelers and Ravens in the off-season.  Both run a 3-4 and are traditionally two of the best defenses.  Some simple zone blitzing would really be beneficial.  Especially with Iowa who uses tightends over the middle often.

Culture is culture. You can't wait to only develope it when you are winning. The hope and plan is that the right culture will help you win games. However, the inmates don't get to run the asylum at any point. You don't make exceptions to your culture to appease young guys with lots of stars behind their name. It doesn't work that way. Anybody that's not onboard with that... don't let the door hit ya in the a$$.

And what exactly is this culture?  He's a young inexperienced coach.  Maybe these kids see a culture that's not working and being a part of.

The mentality Nebraska played with today was good. They played hard and had a chance to win the game in the end. There are two things in the way, from a mentality perspective, from winning consistently and that is how to bring it on a weekly basis (like today) and how to finish off games for wins.

The record isn't going to show, but Nebraska football is making major strides this season in getting back to winning games. Once the issues that I have outlined in this thread are overcome the wins will be popping up regularly.

This is a team that could easily have 3 wins on the season, not 1.

Haha the flip side is they could have zero wins.  If PSU's OC doesn't go full retard in the red zone, we're looking at a goose egg right now.

Frost blaming the snapping issues on Iowa clapping in the first half is some weak stuff.  Jurgens has struggled his whole career

Jurgens has pictures of Frost with a sheep.  There is no other excuse I can come up with why Jurgens still plays.

I was thinking about this today. Our pass defense probably makes them look great.

Iowa had a few 3rd and 2's today where one corner played press coverage and the other was 12 yards off of the LOS.  All I could do was put my hands into the air lol

Edit to add we had two deep safeties in said situation.

Firing Frost today would not be too quickly.  Literally the only reason he still has a job is he's program royalty.  On merit he has zero business coaching another game.  Moos' job security depends on the football program's success, period.

The third season is too quick for a program that isn't royalty anymore.  We're not present day Alabama, Florida, etc.  Hell, we're not even Oregon.  This is a rebuild.  Don't get me wrong, I'm as frustrated as the next guy and I called Frost a failure last year.  But the reality is we're not going to get the players we need by firing coaches every three years.  Those early firings force us to start over with upperclassmen leaving for other opportunities.  We gotta be stable for at least another two seasons.  If it's still this bad, then we jettison the whole staff.

Maybe that's the problem.    Moos might be the most incompetent AD in program history.  The idea that he's shown he's competent is hysterical.

Moos' primary job is to bring in money and build facilities.  It appears he is doing exactly that.  He brought in Frost which is exactly what we all wanted.  He's safe and rightfully so.  Frost is safe because his buyout is far too large and firing coaches too quickly isn't a recipe for success.  Let's just hope these young coaches are humbled and begin looking at their shortcomings.

Interesting.  I did not realize many Duck fans did not like Frost.  I am all for patience, but Frost needs to give the fan base  at least some hope.  His teams have gotten progressively worse from year 1 to 3 which is why I think many fans have lost their patience.

Florida wanted Frost when we got him, and had he yielded similar results or even .500 results, Florida would have fired him by now.

They associate Frost with Helfrich and Helfrich let the program slip.  Of course, they forget that Helfrich didn't cheat like Kelley but I digress...

If you're in the fire Frost or fire the majority of assistants camp I hope you're ready for more years of suck if that happens.

There is not a scenario where we fire a lot of people and come out next year with a winning record. You're now reteaching these kids again.

This isn't the type of team where changing assistants or head coaches makes a lick of difference in 2-3 years.

Then we need to bring Chinander a mentor to teach him what to run in specific situations.  There is no need to have 2 deep safeties against Iowa.  It's not that they're just a run team, it's they can't throw very well either.  Make the adjustment.  Overwhelm their offensive line by outnumbering their blockers on third and long.  That earned most of my yelling today.

Frost and Verducco need to teach Adrian to trust his receivers more.  He seems to only throw to guys who are wide open.  Throw balls to guys who are one on one and make them make a play.  You can also "throw guys open" with back shoulder throws.  He had a throw today on third and long to Warner that was woefully short because he was wide open.

Yes I think if Frost stays he needs to do a lot of self-reflection and reconsider all that he thinks about his offensive and defensive philosophy if he wants to remain a coach in the BIG.  It's obvious his schemes are not working in the BIG like they did at Oregon or UCF.  Good coaches are willing to admit failure and try something new.

This scheme looks nothing like Oregon because we don't have enough speed on the field and the QB isn't reliable enough.  Chip Kelly's offense started with fast backs who would get 6, 7, 8 yards on first down and open up the passing game.  We don't have those backs yet.  So I want to remain patient, but I'm also reminded by my Duck fans friends that they celebrated when Frost left.

Frost said both QB’s completed 81% in practice. That tells me they are being setup for success in practice too much. Do we ever go good on good?

Our corners play 10 yards off the LOS.  It's no wonder they complete passes.

Do you really have any faith whatsoever that this team will pull it off? I don't.

I actually did at that moment.  I liked what the offense was able to accomplish for most of the game.  Martinez had a lot of time for most of the game, but eventually Iowa sent 6 against our 5 and Martinez had no chance.

Iowa sucks as much as us so it’s no surprise that it was a holding call that ultimately led to our demise. We don’t do well trying to chase points.

but I do like some of the things I saw today and even some of them on offense.

The offense looked better today.  I'd like to see Martinez throw the ball downfield to his receivers even when they're not wide open.  On one on one situations, let your WR make a play.

Nope not impressive in the least bit. The fact of the matter is frost is going to get 2 more full seasons in my opinion. The only way I see him

gone end of next year is if moos demands changes and frost doesn’t and still sucks.

    25 million dollar buyout, right?

got home in time for the first fumble , no offensive grrove whetever the hell that was. and then that...which is why I just dont prioritze watching this garbage anymore

It was better in the first half. Then half-time adjustments happened and you know how well that works out for us.

But we've never had money problems, so whatever we would get from playing in a favorable area and climate would be plenty. The whole idea of moving to the BIG for TV money and academics was a hoax concocted by somebody in Wisconsin. For one thing, it killed our baseball program. Really bad move.

Around here, there have been plenty of articles blaming the lack of TV money for the conference's woes in both football and basketball.  That money pays for things including coaches.  Obivously better coaches want more money and that's elsewhere at the moment.

The downgrade of UNL's baseball program is a bummer.  I enjoyed following my Beavers and Huskers on the diamond.  OSU's baseball program is following Nebraska's with the retirement of our coach I fear.

If we're just in it for the money then going to the PAC would be the money decision. We have as many fans in Arizona and California as we have in Nebraska and we'd still be able to recruit the south effectively with prospects knowing they wouldn't be playing in a blizzard on the Arctic tundra. I'm sure the west coast TV revenue would provide us with all the money we need as well. I thought it was weird when Colorado went that way, but it's no weirder than us flying to the east coast to play Rutgers and Maryland.
Would we still get the fumble calls on forward passes that we get from the 70 year old refs of the BIG? Hard to say about that, just as it's hard to say why old grey haired geezers are still out there calling the games? The style Frost wants to play would sure be more likely to succeed in the PAC.

The Pac 12 has money issues as the commissioner has done a terrible job getting TV contracts like other conferences have.  The Pac 12 Network is not on Directv and that has been a big issue.  Pre-covid, the Pac 12 gave each school 29 million.  Compare that to the 56 million Nebraska got from the B1G.

The offense can't score points when they are giving the ball away.  Illinois scored 24 points off turnovers.  We will not win a game with a -5 turnover margin.  Blaming the defense for the loss against Illinois is like blaming a gun for a homicide.

Two of those turnovers came on fourth down.  Illinois was going to get the ball anyway.  Let's not make excuses for the defense.  It's not good.  Illinois had a lead in their previous games for a grand total of three seconds prior to this weekend.

The B1G plays big boy football. What happens in the other conferences is cute,, but the level of play top to bottom here is usually pretty high.. Nebraska should find a way to compete, but coaching ineptitude is a big obstacle.

The second obstacle is Ohio State. They recruit and gain talent at a pace that only two or three teams can compete with. There is no amount of weight lifting, heart, hardwork or development that will catch Nebraska up to their level.

All we can hope for is the once every two decade perfect storm where Nebraska is unreasonably good and Ohio State is unreasonably bad.

I'd settle for competing for the West title.  OSU hasn't been on my radar.

  20. Turns things around?  We can start with a much more aggressive defense with press coverage.  I'd like to see just how much talent our corners have instead of letting them languish 10 yards from the LOS and making tackles after a simple pitch and catch.

On offense, I'd like to see more sophistication.  In short, I want the Oregon offense.  The real one.  Begin by establishing the run and build from there.  We start by getting a guy who can snap the freakin' ball into the hands of the QB.  It feels like we've been dealing with timing crushing snaps forever.  Teach the guy to do it right or bench him.

No, Riley went 9-4, with a 62-3 loss to Ohio State. SIXTY-TWO to THREE.  Also got boat-raced by Tennessee, a coach that would also get fired the next season. Our fired coach was one of the worst of the fired coaches. (Is Scott doing better now? No. But he might...?)

That was also his second season playing with kids who weren't recruited to play a pro-style offense.  it's funny to listen to people who say give Frost a chance when they didn't say the same for Riley.  With that said, we're stuck with Frost and I hope he can turn things around.
