  1. I just wouldn't want the Oregon offense, but I'm sure Scott could of been and still could be a great asset to the staff. I'm not sure if he is ready to be and offensive coordinator, but he would be a great position coach.

These kinds of posts drive me nuts. Why isn't he ready to be an offensive coordinator? Because he's a receivers coach? What, he's not smart enough to change hats? This is football, not rocket science.

Chip Kelly didn't play a down of football in his life. He was a DEFENSIVE coordinator early in his career. He was then a positions coach on offense for four years before becoming an offensive coordinator. He was an instant success as OC setting records at New Hampshire. Here at Oregon, he reminds me of the glory days at DONU with 500 yards rushing and 50 points a game. But why would anybody at Nebraska want that?

  2. - Line needs to quit pulling, and play a hat on a hat. No more of this pulling, fancy crap. Barney - enjoy your new job this offseason, whatever cushy office job they hook you up with.

    - Beck, LOL. No matter how much Northwestern kept selling out to the run on the early downs, and no matter how much Taylor was incredibly accurate today, Beck showed little to no faith in Taylor on early downs until the 4th quarter. When he FINALLY did, we moved the ball consistently. This was a HORRENDOUS Northwestern defense, and yet we struggled.

    - STOP WITH THE FREAKIN' OPTION. Our line cannot block for it. Our QB and RB both struggle with understanding spacing. All around, WE SUCK AT RUNNING THE OPTION. Even more, if Beck is determined to run it, STOP WITH THE SHORT SIDE OPTION YOU FRANK SOLICH WANNABE. Good lord, I wanted to kill another kitten watching that BS.

    - Going in even more, where is the Diamond? We torch Ohio State with this formation, and have rarely seen it since. Um, Beck, hello? Want to try it when we are struggling?

    - Ron Brown needs a reality check about whether Rex is really Superman. That kid was beat up, and running with little explosion today. But still yet, we put him out there and ran consistently with him. We recruited those 3 RBs behind Rex for a reason so when another RB got worn down, we would go to another horse in the stable. When Rex was limping, and showing little burst, that should have been a hint to Coach Brown to get him some rest. Instead, we stuck with him. I love Rex as a player as much as anybody, but that game last week sucked the life out of him, and it showed today.

    - Credit to Taylor. Kid played his a** off today and you won't hear me say a SINGLE word about his effort, or his passing today. He did everything in his power to keep us in it. Respect to him for that.

    - Anyone notice who had the defensive playsheet? Last week the gameplan was tremendous, and the defense showed extreme effort thanks to Bo. But just a week later Bo's defense, that he gameplanned and set up, was completely overmatched. It's a reality that our defense lacks talent, especially in our front 7 - but there is only 1 person who overlooks EVERY offer that goes out, and plans this. The buck stops with Bo about how much talent we have, and how our defense performs. If this wasn't a wakeup call to Bo that he needs to go get some absolute studs (JUCO or otherwise) who can play day 1 next season, then he needs his head examined.

    - Clock management at the end was terrible. In the end, because we didn't get the onside kick, it didn't matter. However, if we had, and we only have 17 seconds remaining because of Bo's mismanagement, then I would be absolutely LIVID. Still, it's an issue because it shouldn't happen regardless.

    - Ciante, I would bench you for the rest of the year for your effort on that 4th down play. I understand playing your lane if it's the 1st quarter, but in the 4th quarter on 4th and short, you take that QBs a** out and force him to make a difficult pitch instead of standing there letting him cut inside of you. That was almost as bad as watching Joe Dailey run out of bounds against USM on the final play of the game down near the goal line with the game on the line.

    - Tackling, anyone want to take this defense back to basics?

    - Baker, damm nice game out of you. Been waiting for that for a long time.

Probably more I forgot, but oh well. Time to drink.

Throw in something about penalties, dropped passes, getting outcoached and the embarrassment of being pushed around by Northwestern and you've covered everything I thought of during the game. I, like you, was livid with the offense. They ran with a tired back on obvious running downs and passed on obvious passing downs.

I still cannot figure out by the Pelinis will not blitz the QB. Why do they continue to think they can get enough pressure on the QB with four down lineman?

  3. To any Nebraska fan, Nebraska vs. Oklahoma is WAAAY bigger than Big Ten vs. Pac 12. I mean, everyone loves the Big Ten so far, but the one thing we all miss, and will always miss, from the Big 12/8: Oklahoma.

I would hope Big 10 fans would realize this too. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is not only a Nebraska tradition...its a College Football Tradition. Now that this games is going to be played VERY RARELY, you take advantage of it whenever you can. Who cares if it disrupts the Rose Bowl and the B1G vs Pac 12 tradition. Nebraska vs Oklahoma is bigger and more important than that. The Rose Bowl could hypothetically play B1G vs Pac 12 every year for the next 100+ years. Nebraska vs Oklahoma might happen 2-3 times the next 100 years. You play NU vs OU in the Rose Bowl.

Then put them together in the CarQuest Bowl. The Rose Bowl is between the Pac 12 and Big 10. Period.

And keep this in mind. Oklahoma DUMPED us as a rival when the Big 12 got together. They kept their rivalry with Texas.

  4. Did I miss them talking about Taylor hurting his hand or did they miss it? I noticed Pelini checking it out and then saw Taylor handing balls off the way Carson Palmer did a few years ago when he hurt his thumb.

  5. We finally found a QB that makes our defense look good. If Miller didn't get hurt, we're all crying in our beer(s)...

this might be true, but our 'd' was turning it around. he got injured on a sack, after all.

No he did not. He got injured trying to cut up field.

  6. Geez, I said this about Boise last year and got ripped. It was in regards to Nebraska wanting a 2 for 1 home and away with Boise. I defended Boise for saying no. Good to see others agree Boise is better than DONU right now.

  7. Would you care if people were blaming you because your OC forced you to do things you weren't good at without giving you a chance to actually do what comes natural?

Well to be fair, QB's are supposed to be able to throw..

Go back and watch some video of Tommie Frazier. He wasn't a good thrower and he threw some bad picks himself. It was very helpful to him that he played on a team with a really good defense and really good o-line. These are things Taylor Martinez does not have.

We can blame this loss on Taylor all we want, but that doesn't explain the odd play calling and the defense giving up nearly 500 yards.

Let's face facts and realize that this team isn't very good. At least not as good as we had hoped going into the season. Hopefully it can get turned around.

  8. While you're watching that highlight tape of Carnes, think about how Western Kentucky was his best offer before DONU snagged him the last days of recruiting last season.

As for Bubba, hearing that the all star game playbook had to be dumbed down for him was all I needed to know. If he can't figure out an already dumbed down all star game playbook, what makes you think he is bright enough to run DONU's offense? But who am I kidding? He's our next Carl Crawford. I wish the kid luck.

Whine all you want about Martinez, but he was great prior to getting hurt. His passing motion needs TONS of work as it is way too slow to be effective on a consistent basis. He also needs to learn how to hold onto the ball and when to throw the ball out of bounds.

Green seems like a really nice kid who isn't good enough to play QB at an upper echelon D-1 school. He's a poor passer and slow footed.

Nobody knows what Turner and Spano can bring. Spano wasn't highly regarded out of high school and can't stay healthy. Turner wasn't recruited as a QB except by DONU.

Our QBs all have major flaws. Hopefully a few of them can develop into good college quarterbacks. I have my doubts that any of them will be good enough to get us into the NC.
