  1. You get all that from one game? Go ahead and believe. I'm glad you're happy. But who's in a state of denial? I'm not doubting or believing at this point. I'm in a 'wait and see' mode. I can't deny how well the team played against Colorado. But I also can't deny how horrible the offense looked for 90% of the rest of the season.

  3. That's seems a little restrictive as a general policy, but research backing up ideas is always welcome in any debate. Here's another useful site that I'm sure a lot of you visit, but for those who haven't: http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/footballMenu.html
  4. Tell me about it. This is off topic but I agree with you to an extent. I think the way the NFL handles contracts is better than the way the NBA does it. We have a guy out here on the Jazz, Boozer, who has done nothing but sit on the bench with injuries since he got here and he's making something like $150,000 a game. He doesn't even travel with the team right now. I don't begrudge athletes making money, It's the market that drives it and I'm a good capitalist. I just think they should be held to performance standards to make their money just like all us regular guys. To tie this back into the topic.....I think Callahan will be gone in 3 years. Either fired because he stunk or back in the NFL because he was good. That was one of the reasons I was opposed to the hire in the first place. I wanted someone who was going to show some loyalty to Nebraska and stick around for a while. Nebraska shouldn't be a 'stepping stone' coaching position. But maybe I'm just too old school.
  5. On a side note...isn't that big COLORADO sign in the one end zone the stupidest thing you've ever seen? I think it was 87 when Kieth Jones had like a 60 yard touchdown run into that end zone and he ran all the way up to the top of the sign. I still chuckle when I think about it and how it probably pissed off Buff fans.
  6. Some people are just more comfortable there. There's less teaching in the NFL, no need to be a father figure either. That leaves more time for X's and O's, which is what some coaches want to focus on. Also, 1.25 million is not close to 5 million. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to make 1.25 million. But 5 million is a whole different lifestyle altogether.
  7. Please don't jump on me, I don't have a dog in this fight. But I thought I might point out that mathmatics dictate that there has to be some bottom feeders. When someone wins a game, someone else loses a game, and it all has to even out. So either you have everyone with a record around .500 (see big 12 North) or you have teams about evenly distributed among the top, middle, and bottom feeders. Without free agency like the NFL, it's really hard for the bottom teams to move up. So to say these teams don't belong in DI because of their records doesn't really work. You can say they don't belong because of their attendance or other factors. But if you kicked them out because of their records, the next teams up from them would most likely become the new bottom feeders.
  8. Nice. If you are skeptical, you don't matter and you're not a fan. That's ridiculous. Remember after the ISU game when the offense had "arrived"? Or after the Tech game when we finally showed heart and BC had turned things around? Here's the total yards by game this season before the Colorado game: 313, 234, 267, 467, 364, 350, 279, 283, 138, 334 Even with the good offensive day against ISU, it was a NEGATIVE trendline. As in we weren't improving. The game against Colorado is great, and I'm really happy about it. If you want to believe that BC is leading us back to glory and this game is the proof, then go ahead. I don't fault you. But don't fault people like me who want to see more consistency before we are sold. Great game. GAME. As in one. Now let's see how they build on it.
  9. I've said before that it was a great win. But it's not a trend until it happens over a few games. If they come out and put up 450 yards of offense against a good team in the bowl game I'll be closer to believing BC can get it done.
  10. CU fans have always been the worst. K-State fans have gotten pretty annoying over the past 10 years, but its always been like your little brother annoying you. Just bothersome but it doesn't really phase you and definitely doesn't worry you. CU fans on the other hand are downright nasty. I'm telling you, CU or Wyoming have the worst fans in America. I'd probably give it to CU just because there's more of them.
  11. I thought Rivals had us #10 and Scout at #23.
  12. I am as happy as anyone that we beat Colorado the way we did. But one complete game in 2 years doesn't mean everything's great. On this very board everyone was talking about how we had finally arrived after the Tech game, and then we went in the tank the next few games. The CU game was great, but I want to see it happen more often before I say thing's are fine.
  13. Callahan makes around $1.25-1.4 million ayear. He made about $800,000 a year as Oakland's head coach. Nick Saban was making 1.65 million with LSU. He now makes 5 million with the Dolphins. Spurrier was making 2.1 million at Florida, he made 5 million with the Redskins, and is now making 1.25 million at South Carolina. Norm Chow made 500,000 at USC and now makes 900,000 with the Titans. Granted, these are examples of higly coveted coaches, but the average NFL head coaching Salary was 2.5 million back in 2003, likely it is higher now. He's not going to get 5 million unless he really has some success the next couple of years, but if someone comes offering 2.5 or 3 million, and BC already has NFL inclinations anyway, why wouldn't he take it? Not saying it's going to happen...just isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
  14. There's two reasons guys jump back to the NFL: money and less headaches. Hear me out on this one. Only the biggest of the big in college can compete with the NFL money wise. What is BC making right now? He could probably double or triple it if the NFL comes calling again. Also, a lot of coaches prefer the NFL because it is simpler in a lot of ways. Not the gameplans by any means, or the amount of time put in. But NFL coaches don't have to deal with recruiting or to babysit their players (at least they shouldn't have to). They don't necessarily deal with the character development of their players and without school, the players can devote all their time to football, making it easier to implement whatever schemes the coach wants.
  15. Yes, that sounds right. I hadn't thought of that. Darn it, I really wanted to play Michigan, and I'm positive the Outback Bowl will take them like you said. So I was hoping that they would slide down if OSU didn't make the BCS.
  16. I, for one, would love to play Michigan. It would be a fun game because we've only played them 5 times, with the last one coming way back in the '86 Fiesta Bowl.
  17. You're right that it all depends on who the bowls want, not necessarily the standings. And that's why it will come down to who will fill the seats more. That's why I don't think it will shake out the way you have listed. Of course Penn State gets the automatic BCS bid. After that the selection goes as you listed #2 Capital One #3 Outback #4 Alamo #5 Sun #6 Music City #7 Motor City Again, the order is not the standings, but the order the bowls get to chose. If Ohio State gets an at-large bid, the Capital one bowl would select Wisconsin because they are the highest rated and travel reasonably well. The Outback bowl would then surely snatch Michigan, followed by the Alamo taking Iowa and the Sun taking Minnesota. Northwestern would fall all the way to the Music City bowl because no one else would want them. The Motor city bowl would have to go elsewhere to get a team because the Big 10 only has 7 bowl elligible teams and they are all used up if OSU gets the at-large BCS bid. This means we get Iowa. If OSU somehow doesn't get the at large BCS invite, the capital one bowl would take them, pushing everyone else down a slot and giving us Michigan.
  18. They also won at Wisconsin and beat Minnesota and barely lost to Michigan and at Northwestern.
  19. My whole thing is to hold people to the same standard. Frank was fired for a 10 (or 9) win season because it wasn't all about wins and losses. It was about how the team performed and the direction of the program. Well, if that's the truth, let's stick to it. Yes, we won more game this year than last year. And if wins are all that matters, then good, we're improving. But apparently, wins are not all that matters, it's how the team performed. Up until the Colorado game, except for stretches of some games, we have looked really bad all year. If that game was the start of something big and finally turning it around, then great. But I'm not sold yet. As I said in another thread, the bowl game will show a lot. I still think it's ridiculous we couldn't win the north the past two years with how weak it was. Yes we have more wins than last year. But are we that much improved? We'll see.
  20. That was a great game against Colorado. Made them look absolutely silly. That's what we should have been doing to the entire big12 North all year...so it remains to be seen if we've turned a corner or not. The bowl game will show a lot. With the last two wins we should get to play a better team than expected (most likely a team that would have won the big 12 north). So if we beat them or keep it respectable, I think that will mean that things have finally clicked. Becuase honeslty, we have won games this year, but up until last Friday (with the exception of stretches of the ISU and Oklahoma games), we have looked pretty bad this year. If we get blown off the field, I'm more inclined to think the CU game was an aberration. We'll see. But regardless of what happens, I agree that I can't stand Pedersen. It really burns me to see him out taking credit when the team plays its first complete game in 2 years, but up until that point, he was hiding under his desk.
  21. Don't worry...I don't think it'll matter which way you go.
  22. The rumors are flying around here that Patterson from TCU will take Snyder's job at Kansas State. If that happens I'm afraid to say the Mildcats won't miss a beat. He's an excellent coach with great offensive balance. Uses the tools he has on the field brilliantly. What's the deal with Patterson and purple, anyway?
