  1. For someone that looked like he would be a first round draft pick because of his physical attributes, he is THE MAIN reason our defense gives up so many big plays. I remember callahan saying he was going to be one of the great safties in the country. But the closest he has ever been to a pick was the Nevada game in 2007. And he dropped it. He doesnt seem to understand zone coverage, and although he gets a ton of tackles that stat is baloney because he gets them BECAUSE HE CANNOT COVER ANYONE. He proves why recruiting hype is overrated, and why people like Chris Brooks will never cut it. Remember Chris Brooks? he has never started a game. And he has 2 career catches.....And he was the best player in Missouri in 2005? Are u kidding me? And look at players like Helu, a 3 star. That is our best player. HE IS THE MOST TALENTED RUNNING BACK TO COME TO NEBRASKA SINCE 2000.

    Wow. Where to start.....

First on Chris Brooks. What in the name of sam hell he had to do with Asante, I don't know but I digress. Do you think that maybe Chris hasn't seen the field that much because Swift, Nunn, Peterson, and this guy named Maurice Purify played in front of him? Those are some damn good players. Since Cally didn't really practice the second string guys, maybe he didn't get that many reps .

Now onto Asante. I am going to preface this by saying I don't want my warning level increased, so I am treading lightly. It really burns me when somebody that is completely uneducated about defensive schemes in football makes claims that prove this. Asante is asked to do so much in this defense, and his responsibilities have been increased because OTHER PEOPLE MISS THEIR ASSIGNMENTS. Football is the ultimate team game. You have 11 guys all doing their job, and if they don't do their job the play/scheme/coverage doesn't work. I could get into specifics about the 2 deep zone coverage that you seemingly don't undestand, but I think it would be review for most others on this board and you probably won't be back on for a year so I won't.

Do me a favor, before you spout off at the mouth and tear a guy down on this or any other public forum, at least have an idea what you're talking about first.

  2. Ok, this is borderline ridiculous.

I'm 26 so I can see both sides of this argument.

    For the students:

If you are trying to make a point to a bunch of people who get up everyday, work hard, and keep this economy moving in order for you to be able to go to school, don't act so entitled. (btw, that's a bad thing) Don't bring up that your parents are doing better than them. Don't shoot off at the mouth so much about older people respecting you. YOU HAVE TO EARN RESPECT. It is not given, it is earned. In all honesty, if you feel like you deserve equal respect as your elder, I need you to tell me why? If you really need to study that much, then show some responsibility and DON'T APPLY FOR AND BUY THE f'ing TICKETS. Let some other student that doesn't have to that is on the list (of which there are thousands) get your tickets.

However, you guys did get screwed by TO and the Athletic Dept. Ridiculous that they moved you. I also agree with you about the standing thing. Sit on somebody else's shoulders if you want to(exagerration).

I don't remember feeling the same way as you in school, but some did. I grew up in a little town and was taught that you respect your elders and that you didn't deserve respect until you did something to earn it in the real world.

To the "older" crowd on here:

Come on guys, leave this alone. You have to agree, they shouldn't have been moved. If you have a problem with NU having a weak student section don't move it, enlarge it. Let more of them in, that will strenghten it. (and I understand the economics of it, just making a point) Also, I do believe if you don't like somebody standing in front of you, STAY THE f#*k HOME. I get so sick of these old farts tellimg me "down in front." Now I just turn around and stare at them until they turn their head. f#*k them. Don't give me this "unhealthy fans should be able to see, too" sh#t either. If they wanted to be able to see while sitting the entire time, watch it on TV. My dad has cancer and goes to games cheering his ass off and standing the whole time (until we score not matter how long that takes, big plays, etc.). He is dead tired at the end, but he knows he is PRIVILEGED to be at the game and many others aren't.

More than anything else, the argument that their would be a football team without students is absolutely absurd. Seriously, how the hell would a team full of student athletes representing a college (yes, they represent the university, which then represents the state) have a team without students? Think about that before you respond that way.

How about we all just talk about football, how we are going to get 9 wins this year, and how Bo is going to win the National Championship next year just like Bob Stoops.

Had to finish on a high note!!!

  3. Did anyone on here attend the Big 12 Championship game in '06 against OU? Those a$$hole$ drowned out our band everytime we started to play anything. They also, as you know, play Boomer Sooner evertime they get a first down or any kind of defensive play. They are the most annoying band in the entire NCAA.

Part of this hatred could be because I was so damn cold that night my eyelids froze open!

  4. Gotta be honest. Watching our offense makes me sick. Bubble screens, misdirection.....do we have any fullbacks???? I really think we need to utilize the fullback more instead of double tights. Lucky needs one additional block to bust loose. Anyway, that's why I am staring at a screen and not scripting plays.

I don't like Watson's offense. I just don't. I am old school and I like to pound the ball and mix in some passing. Offense seems too complicated. Never liked Gilmore either (maybe because of the callahan relationship). I felt after yesterday's game that watson could be gone. Just had an eerie feeling.

Friggin bubble screens!!!! I posted before the OU game that we would have a DB jump the route. And look what happened! We aren't fast enough to run that crap.

And will someone please beat the crap outta TECH!!!!

Scoring 45 pts and having over 500 yards of offense makes you sick?

That makes a sh#t load of sense.

  5. I just got tickets to the KU game, I will be freezing my a%$ off, but it will be worth it.

Also a question- does anyone know if row 68 in section 36-B(in the north stadium) is at the very top or more toward the center

The North stadium goes into the nineties in rows, so you're closer to the middle

  6. ....and games will last 100 years whether or not the country wants them to.... Although the technology is out dated and antiquated, we'll make sure that we run all rugby scrums supporting people who are in a different sport than us, rather than free ourselves from "foreign" football......Touchdown signals from referees will no longer be two arms in the air but two thumbs below shoulder high a.k.a. John McCain....

Sorry that last part was low, but come on. Its over, if we want to fix this country we need to stop the divide. Not saying you have to agree with him. Just don't dismiss him before he even takes office, "my friends"!!!

  7. Hey, some agreed with me, some didn't.........and over 50 hits, not a bad topic.......

Someof you guys need to relax a little, being "over-defensive" shows a little bit of "you may be right, but we hate BC so much that we are afraid to admit it"...

Being mad at a call by an official on the field........ by the way......is APPLES TO APPLES......not as the pulling a gun in different circumstances example from "left field"....

BC gets mad at a call, does a "throat-slash" and is called under carpet

Bo gets mad at a call, gets a crucial 15 yd penalty and consistantly looks like an a$$ game after game , yet he is called passionate...... By the way, obviously TO thinks that Bo needs to cool it, because Bo came out and said that for the image of the program, he would "cool it"..... but I am sure some of you will say TO is wrong too.

This is a "double standard" like it or not !!!! Same situation...sidelines in a game, mad at a call !!!!!!

Wow, totally missed that one. Sorry, I guess I only paid attention to the traditions talk.

That one could be, but every one is pissed at Pelini as well. At least that's how I've seen it.

Besides, I agree with BC. Oklahoma is a bunch of f'ing' hillbillies.

    :box

  8. HANC,

I think what is being missed here is that the actual term "double standard" cannot be used unless all aspects of the two comparisons are exactly the same. They are not.

I would tell you that if the defense looked as bad in 2003 as it did in '07 and BC came in and didn't hand out Blackshirts, every single one of us would back that decision.

I am frustrated that you continually post the same thing, that you aren't comparing coaches, you're comparing situations that DIRECTLY INVOLVE THE COACHES IN QUESTION. You cannot seperate the two. The reactions of people are unpredictable and opinions are formed based upon full grasp of the parameters of the situation. Of course if you had a sheet of paper and wrote down the things that each did, a similar reaction would be shown. Once you educate someone on the situation surrounding the decisions, it is completely different.

This argument is asinine because "double standards" don't exist in these examples.

If you kill a person, you should be punished, right? Blanket statement.

If you have a gun pulled on you in the middle of a war and you kill the person, should you still be punished?

Human beings can rationalize, we don't think in concrete terms. If we did, we wouldn't be on the internet talking. We'd be using smoke signals.

  9. It's impossible to rekindle the thing unless they play every year.

not saying this isnt true, but to me the most important factor is that both teams are GOOD. if both teams were undefeated I dont think this conversation would be happening

Exactly. I think the formation of the Big XII has hurt the rivalry with its new scheduling format, but it's also important to note that NU killed OU throughout the 90s, even during Big 8 play. This rivalry started to dwindle when OU went into the toilet, and then it was finished off when NU went in the toilet. '01 was probably the only 'good' NU-OU matchup since the 80s, right?

'00 and '01 were both good. In '00 we were #1 and they were #3, opposite in '01 because they won the NC. Those two years that game decided who played in the NC game. (Although not directly in '01)

  10. You're kidding me, right?

No, absolutely not. He isn't playing in the NFL. He can't make the throws. I don't know how you think he has the arm strength to beat an NFL safety in 2 deep zone on a flag route. No way.

Joe Montana didn't have a great arm, but he was above average IN COLLEGE. Ganz isn't even that. You don't have to have Brett Favre's fastball to be great, but you have to have above average arm strength.

Too many great QBs this year. Mizzou's backup is a better prospect, and Josh Freeman is a prospect scouts are drooling over.

Daniel will get a shot, why wouldn't you give him one. Late rounder though, if its even a draft pick.

Cassell backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC. They both won the Heisman trophy that year. For all we know he was the 3rd best QB in the country at that time. That "never started since HS" argument doesn't hold water.

  11. Hypocrites! You can drink the red kool-aid to help you believe that you will beat OU this weekend, and not too mention the ridiculous 10/11 win season that was expected by some of you. Yep the skers are BCS bound this year... but we cant drink blue kool-aid cause we are just kansas fans???

I will support my team no matter what sport they are playing just like the big red fans will support the NU basketball even though they have no tradition.

What do you expect when you come onto a site called HUSKERBOARD?

  12. We get 6 wins, we go to a bowl...why you might ask? Because of money. Bowl committees know that Nebraska fans follow their team to the bowls and will spend money. An added bonus is that they see themselves as playing part in our comeback if we were to win. So, you can count on some bowl, even with only 6 wins.

Still think Nebraska is the center of the college football universe, don't you?

    Why go there on him?

  13. some of you guys are just foolish. If you would have posted the full quote you would have seen he was refering to a NC and undefeated season. He went on to say the only thing that matters is our next opponent. The only thing any Tiger referred to last week was Colorado at 5:30.

So i guess since he is just focused on his next opponent and trying to win for his team and his school that means he is awsome and MU will stay good forever. Better than those little b*tch husker players who are going to focus on there next opponent and are not concerned with winning the north or NC's, they "just want to improve week by week"

"game by game we get better and better" what a little b*tch saying. To bad they dont play for NC's and for their fans

Listen to yourselves. Seriously, I know this is a husker board but some of this has become what you all say you are above. There is a select few of you that are practically KU fans in husker clothing. I have stated that I like coming here for the coversations and have moved away from places like Tiger Board because of this childish crap.

Trust me guys, nothing sounds more pathitic and seems to be laced in envy than a group of fans nit picking and complaining/poking fun of/trying to downgrade a team which has kicked your ass the last few 25 years. IF the shoes were reversed and others where saying this about NU, you would just claim they are envious. You looking pretty sad and I am missing the posts that made me register here in the first place

The shoes were on the other feet for years, decades actually. We did hear this sh#t for that long, and we think its funny when Missouri fans come onto a Husker site and act like this.

You are Missouri, do you understand that?

You have never won anything that means something.

    NEVER

Show me a trophy that signifies your position as one of envy. We do not envy you, we wouldn't trade programs if it meant a guaranteed NC this season. AND THAT IS A FACT

Even if it meant we never recover to elite status, I wouldn't trade with you because it would take away 40 years of dominance for 4 years of being a little better than average.

This pompus bullsh!t has got to stop from Missouri until they win a championship of some kind.

Some of these Tiger fans are just Kansas State fans in Missouri clothing.

I was being a sarcastic a**. Taking what was said before my post and twisting it. Sorry you didnt get that

BTW, tell me what YOU have ever won. The day you show up with your national championship ring, I will let that crap you talk stand without dishing it back. My bet, you aint won sh*t in your life and all hopped up on Mountain Dew.

Oh, and thanks for the history class :dumdum

I actually have won, I was a 2 sport college athlete. Conference Champion in track, albeit it was a 4x100.

What the hell that has to do with anything, I don't know.

Thanks for the unneccessary personal attack, pal.

  14. Dontrayaveyous Robinson

    Will likely redshirt.

If Mendoza was going to be THE guy, he would be getting more snaps than Helu right now.

I know, just like typing his name. Its like a drill in keyboarding.....The quick brown fox jumped over the...what was it?

    Oh screw it.

  16. Most D-I running backs are great athletes; what makes you think he will make a great linebacker? One running back translating into a great linebacker doesn't mean all will.

Castille just needs to take care of the fumbles. We're not going to have a lot of depth next year at RB. There's no sense in having only one RB next year with real experience.

Because most schools recruiting him were going to use him as a LB. He was rated higher as a LB than running back coming out of HS. Because he looks to hit people with reckless abandon and forgets he's running the ball sometimes therefore fumbling.

That what you want from a LB. Speed, intelligence, and agression.

However, let's see what Bo and Carl think about it. I am of the opinion that these two are very gifted defensive minds. It is like poetry when this defense executes, albeit rarely. Getting more and more consistent every game.

I'm under the impression that we dont have a choice. :thumbs

    Excellent point, sir!

and let me say I am totally comfortable with that. I am VERY happy with the coaches so far

    Yes, as am I

  18. This team is just so...average. QB average, WR's average, OL average, DL average, special teams average, RB's a bit above average, LB's average, secondary well below average. SAD!

LB's average?!...That's giving them way too much credit....the most athletic LB we have is running around committing blatant personal fouls....

joe ganz is average??? I dont think so same goes for lucky

    Joe Ganz is average.

This team is average. But it's the Huskers and they're always, always, fun to watch and follow!

Ya, Joe Ganz is average in the Big 12. Which makes him excellent. Do you even watch these games?

The team is average right now, but they won't be at the end of this season. They are improving drastically. They will be above average, go to an average bowl against an average team and blow them out.

Marlon Lucky is far from average.

  20. Their game ball goes to the refs. Don't even try saying the refs didn't bail them out at least three times.

Guess you didn't see the BU-NU game a few years back when they let a former NU QB give NU about 4 or 5 mysterious pass interferences that ended up costing BU the game? Refs didn't even bail BU out this game. What are you referencing? The punt that "hit off Bryan's foot"? Because it didn't touch his foot. The spot may have been bad, which I think it was, but the ball didn't touch Bryan's foot. Kick-catch interference? No. He was pushed into the guy by an NU player. I'm neutral. I love Baylor, but I'm going to Nebraska and my roommate is on the team lol. Refs had some questionable calls, but does that not happen in every game?

    NU: Swift.

    Baylor: Griffin.

How about Todd Peterson getting his jersey pulled on a deep route that he scores on, no call. How about them breaking the huddle with 12 men several times and not getting called.

    NU: Swift

    BU: Griffin

Griffin showed he doesn't have, yet, the ability or desire to beat you with his arm. He is not very accurate, and he is also not effective if he has pressure and can't escape. He had a great deep throw that was dropped, but other than that nothing beyond 15 yards was even close. Also, when he went DEEP into his back pocked for the one pass, it was a short high pass that should have been intercepted. He should have been picked off 3 times in that game. He is not a passer, but neither was Vince Young when he was young.

We'll see but as for right now I think he is a little overrated as a QB. As a receiver he would be electric. Could you imagine him as a returner?
