  1. Well, I'm a man. I'm 27. Don't pick on an offense that's done everything right. Blame it for ruinin' CFB because it did everything right.

God forbid we change for the better, I am so sick of this ridiculous view. I loved the option, and it will still work. I hated the wishbone, because it was OU's offense. If it puts points on the board, it is a good offense. You don't have to like it to appreciate it. It isn't ruining college football any more than rock and roll ruined society.

You don't like seeing the ball going up and down the field basketball style? So you hated the '95 team? It scored just as quickly as a spread team. As a matter of fact, the spread doesn't break big plays any more often than a regular offense.

I think you don't like it because you didn't come up with it in your generation, just like everything else that's new or improved.

Somebody as "oldschool" as you is rare to find on THE INTERNET!

  2. Hmmm....I could be wrong, but I think a "hokie" is an old, old, wooden ship used during the Civil War era...

Wow. Never ceases to amaze me. What cologne you gonna go with? London Gentleman, or wait. No, no, no. Hold on. Blackbeard's Delight.

Oh, no. She get's a special cologne. It's called Sex Panther, and its illegal in 9 countries. It's made with bits of real panther, so you know its good.

  3. People like this amaze me. Apparently they have never actually read the New Testament. How can you read what Jesus says about Love and forgiveness and act this way in the name of the Lord. They will be judged in the end.

I pray that they ask for forgiveness and Jesus Christ almighty will forgive them.

Please no one instigate anything, we don't need good people from Nebraska, or anyone else, being taken advantage of by these misguided people.

  4. I guess I find it hard to believe that some of us on here are uneducated enough in CFB history to not realize Penn State is a historical program that was a power and national title contender within the last 15 years.

Those comments make me feel really, really, really old.

  5. Showing a lack of respect for one of the most respected programs in the country seems childish.

Anyone that is terribly impressed with what Nebraska has put on the field at this time is living in la la land.

We are a lower level program folks, not worthy of high praise at this time. If someone does not want to spend money on watching a average to below average game it is their right

We have fans calling for the head of Cotton, that in a sense is calling for the the head of the guy that hired him, after two games. Never thinking that it could be a talent problem, only a coaching problem.

Thinking that we have some huge talent base that will rise up and win 12 games this year is a reach. Only the most sheltered fans could think that.

Wanting to see Nebraska football is what I think Oldman was saying. Seeing the game played like we used to play it was a beautiful thing. Maybe more to what we did, not basketball on grass.

Every fan has their right to disagree, but no one has the right to be disresectful to another poster. Some of your posts are bordering on that

I know all of us are on edge, or at least most. Some bought in hook line and sinker that this was going to be a BCS type team. Some of us did not. It hurts when the cupcakes give us a little better game than we thought. In honesty we are just about what I thought we would be at this time. Three weeks we will know what is under the hood. VaTech lost by 5 points to a very good ECU team. Maybe a lot better than most think. VaTech showed better than a West Virginia team that was ranked a lot higher. We have our work cut out for us. Some are just trying to prepare us for the reality of what we have.

The question is can some of you handle three straight losses. I know I can, because I feel we are not as good as the three opponents we must face. I do not feel the talent is there to win those games. But the real question is can the coaching staff do a better job than the previous one and keep thier heads up and move forward with the season. I think Bo can, but he is going to need the fans help on this and a lot more than we gave the past staff. These kids get down on themseleves it is going to be a rough season.

Fighting between ourselves leads to booing the team. Let's nip this in the bud and promise to be great Nebraska fans, even if we are not seeing what we want.

    :clap:clap:clap:yeah:yeah

  6. OleMiss/Clemson Syndrome - "the phenomenon by which fans of historically second-tier programs delude themselves into thinking that one isolated period of greatness ... is more representative of their team's rightful place in the sport's hierarchy than its other one hundred or so years of football."

    CNNSI College Football Mailbag

This was being discussed in Stewart Mandel's College Football mailbag today. Sounds eerily similar to something a lot of our Kansas and Missouri posters have on here. You guys should go and get checked, I don't know of any painless cures for this disease.

Is that similar to "the-good-ol-days-ites"? AKA- Nebraska Fever. Side effects for both "Nebraska Fever & OleMiss/Clemson Syndrome include diarrhea of the mouth. Requires those suffering to take in lots of liquids, preferrably kool-aid.

    :LOLtartar

    :clap:clap

It also causes programs with huge following to spend tons of money on facilities and invest in regaining national prominence. For most of such programs, return to greatness is inevitable.

  7.

...I think I am losing some of my passion for NU....

...But they will never contend for another national title at least in my life time....

Wow...I hear Missouri and Kansas are accepting fair-weather fans on their band wagon. Do let the door hit ya'...where the good Lord split ya'!!!

No kidding, I heard ECU is winning. Go be a part of butt-Pirate Nation if you're so sick of the Huskers.

Of course, this is a guy who is ranting about an offense he is bored to watch (the spread) and yet enjoys watching West Virginia one of the most classic spread offenses around. TTU and other pass happy offenses are a variation of the spread.

  8. I like how Swift just chuckled. What do you think this CB will do with the 5" height disparity between our WRs and their secondary?

Yes, he's 6'0...I did not realize Nate Swift was 6'5.

He isn't, but TP is 6'4" and Holt is 6'5". There other three DBs are under 6 ft. I was talking averages, that would be why I said secondary not just one player.

  9. If memory serves me correctly, it was none other than Mason and the Jayhawks who could have ruined our NC run with a tie choose to go for 2 points in order to either win or lose the game because of their respect for NU than to ruin it with a tie. Keep on bashing the Jayhawks, but they've shown us none other than good will over the years. It's not like Mangino is circling us on his calendar and telling their fans to be as nasty as possible.

But he might be circling us on the calendar and saying. "Man I's can't wait for some o dem N Zone wings!!!!"

Do you think he just eats an entire tray of Runza's at halftime and washes it down with a case of Pepsi?

    No blackshirts yet

"If Mangino was a hot dog, and he hadn't eaten in 12 seconds, would he eat himself?"

  10. Yeah, it's a new staff and they've only played two games. So we should give them a break? Not. Block, tackle, stay set till the snap. Hardly revolutionary football concepts, and yet this is where our mistakes are being made. The basics. I never, ever thought we would be contending for a Nat. championship in Bo's first year, but if things don't improve quickly we are going to be looking at back to back blow outs, at home, from Va. Tech and Misery and hoping for a .500 season. Six weeks into the season is too early for me to start dreaming about 'next year'.

Look, I have alot a confidence in Bo and his staff, but I think even he would tell you we haven't been getting it done.

I would agree, they are mental mistakes. Things that will hopefully be shored up. The penalties were huge. Its awful hard to run on 2nd and 25.

If these mistakes aren't fixed by the end of the year, this is a valid argument. Just not after 2 games. Let them teach the kids. They needed a "fastball or two" as Bo said to get something on tape to teach with.

  11. So we should be a bunch of stepford wives and pretend everything is hunky dory? Not this fan. And I am a fan by the way. Being critical of what is happening on the field doesn't make anyone a bad fan, it makes them a realistic one.

I couldn't have said it better myself. :clap

Being critical after two games isn't realistic.

    :yeah

you might need a bigger body of work before you make this kind of judgement

"Being critical of what is happening on the field doesn't make anyone a bad fan, it makes them a realistic one."

    ...or an uninformed one.

If everything was Hunky Dory, we wouldn't have Bo. We know it isn't, just give him more than 120 minutes of football to judge his entire staff on.

  12. You're statistics are totally misleading...

There aren't my stats they are ISU's under Barney-ball. If you can't look at the stats what can you look at? Rushing yards a game have nothing to do with the passing stats that Meyer and Blthye milked the first few years until they hit their peaks and teams figured them out. I listed RUSHING YARDS and you tell me they are misleading by throwing out Meyer's PASSING YARDS. You also said you can't count the yards lost from a sack, I say BS because the discussion is about Barney's coaching and didn't he coach the OL at ISU? So aren't sacks usually because of crappy blocking?

Like I said before nothing ANYBODY says can change my view of Barney and his lack of coaching skill. He is Cosgrove without the success. Look at the stats and you will see what I mean. The won't mislead you.

Great...then I'm going back in time and pulling out...say...5 of Hipp's games, or Redwine's games or whoever....just gonna throw them out and pretend they were injured for the same spell that Stevie Hicks was back during Cotton's stay at ISU.

Wow...the Cornhusker rushing average per carry sucked once I did that! I'm surprised you could win at all, let alone a National Championship...with an average like that. The OL coach must have been a total ass!

Want some fun...take away Lucky's stats from the first four games last year and then work out your per rush average for 2007 and see what you get. Makes a little difference when the guy you expect to be your leading ball carrier gets knocked out for a few games huh?

:sarcasm Welcome back Cy....seen your Cyclones won Saturday...how many times did you have to short chain to get a first down for them?

Wow, kinda splitting hairs, aren't we?

    1. How about the fact that almost all of those runs by Lord were DESIGNED QB RUNS that the line created a SPECIFIC hole for the QB to run through. Kinda like a RB, don't you think? There was also the fact that Cotton was also the OC that year. He had help on the Oline and more responsibility that just that.

    2. If you take away the best runner from any team, their stats are going to drop. Don't you think a great team would do better than ISU? Do you really believe the backup to the starter, regardless of his talent to somebody from 10 years ago (I still don't know what the hell that has to do with anything in this argument), is going to be as talented at ISU as say Texas or OU?

    3. Can you for one second stop the bashing and think about this? We have played two games with a bunch of guys that are trying to completely change the offense. If you go back and remember the offensive coaches re-designed the blocking schemes from last year on the run game. They got the receivers and tightends more involved at the request of Ron Brown and changed the Oline's assignments on many plays because Barney and Watson didn't like Callahan's ideas. That's right, Callahan. We keep forgetting that he is an OLine coach. That's what he is in the f*ckin' NFL, for christ sakes. (along with running game cooridinator which sucks for Brett Favre!) You don't think he had some input to the blocking schemes?

Bo said that they are 1 guy off on many plays. 1 guy off is everything in a run play. Let's give them more than two weeks and a slew of injuries before we start the "my buddy works for Time Warner and they disconnected Cotton's cable" bull sh!t.

Be proud, be loud, wear red. Go Huskers

  13. Accept that if we are playing in a BCS bowl every 2-3 years, we are a very good program.

    NO, I WILL NOT!

I refuse to accept anything like that. Part of what makes this so special to everybody is that we EXPECT greatness. OU has been to 5 BCS bowls in 6 years. Why do you think we can't do that? What makes you think we can't be top 2 in the conference every year? There are 4 legitimate big money, big tradition programs in this conference. OU, Texas, aTm, and Nebraska. Notice we are the only ones in the North. The Big 12 setup actually helps us in this. We won't be back if we allow that pesimistic attitude to become the norm in this state.

I don't think this thread was meant to annoint us to only a top 25 level team. The author does not expect this to happen, but he has fears about it. You always have fears about anything you love. All of us love Husker Football, but we cannot allow ourselves to slip into any other level of expectation except the best. If our coaches and players work hard enough, they can and will be dominant again.

Nebraska Football will be back because that is what this fanbase demands. Plain and simple, we will not allow for us not to return to our rightful spot at or near the top of college football. WE LOVE IT TOO MUCH!

  14. I have completely stopped reading the World-Herald's football section. I am subscribing to the LJS, mainly for Sipple but also for their better reporting. The World-Herald has lost its edge.

I would love to see a running attack, and hope to see that edge that our OLines used to possess.

    God I love Nebraska Football.

Isn't it f*ckin' great that we only have 9 days?!?

    GO BIG RED!!

  15. I can't think you mean effort, but generally I feel that what is called "saving" things for certian teams is actually the fact that the trickery hasn't been installed yet. The coaches won't put those particular plays into the gameplan for that week, because they don't feel they'll need to. Don't get me wrong, a good coach always prepares for the worst but usually you don't need a triple flea flicker in week 1 in major college football.

I for one an excited to see the secondary, I hope they can be inspired by the Pelini/Sanders team just like in 2003. I feel there is talent there, and Marvin Sanders said he has more talent in this secondary than the previous one. That saying something, considering there were 4 NFL players in that secondary! They had better go all out.

  16. I don't think its a bad idea, but it will never be the entire stadium so it shouldn't be done. The Athletic Dept will have to give away shirts/announce ahead of time.

If everybody doesn't do it, it should't be done.
