Why? Honestly curious.

The Rhules have changed! Go Big Red!

The best part of this process right now is that it's going to be over in a week (at least the head coach part) and we can end the speculation and begin overanalyzing the new coach.

I believe as far as having trust in Trev to make the right hire. In my mind, it really is having trust in the firm doing the work. They have proven to be very effective at their job. That is what is giving me the most hope. Nebraska hasn't had a true coaching search yet. This is the first time it has happened. This means everyone is going off of old past patterns and pulling names out of their a$$ based on that.
It would not shock me one bit that it was a Fickell or Kiffen. I go back to the USC hire last year. That came out of nowhere, and there were a lot of talks that Lincoln's wife didn't want to move either. (or maybe I'm imagining that???)
So, let's sit back and enjoy the fact that we have actual professionals conducting this coaching search, and then if the results don't speak for themselves then we can break out the pitchforks and torches.
I think this is an excellent post.
...but I'm keeping the tar warm just in case.

Maybe, like Trev said, he would talk to a lot of folks. Get input. Maybe Rhule is there to give advice on how to go from dumpster fire to bowl eligible in one year. How he scouts talent and develops it. Maybe he comes on as a non-paid consultant. Just throwing stuff out. Like you said, it's still anyones game to win.
At one time I might have been terribly offended to imply that Nebraska football had become a charity case.
That time has passed.Hand me the damn cardboard sign...

I would have a hard time believing that Sanders would be a good fit for Nebraska. Exceptional athlete, and may be a great coach, but it would likely be a pretty big culture shock for all parties if he becomes the next head coach at Nebraska.

I have no idea who it will be but there has to be a few mandatory KPI’s.
1- Proven track record of rebuilding a program.
2- Developing players with a focus on line play.
3- Recruiting.
3b- Ability to assemble a quality staff and coordinators.
Is that all…

Maybe Ruhle would allow us to do this so we could go spend 2.5 million per coordinator.
If you wanted to "shock the world" this would be a way to do it.
We're in the sad state where we've been bad enough for long enough that it would seem like a miracle for a coach to bring us back to prominence.- 1

Assuming it's Joe Brady https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Brady_(American_football_coach)
Thanks! Seems like that would be a great combination. Rhule and Brady with enough MJ to keep all sides (at least most of them) united. I'm in.

I wonder what position MJ would fill on a Rhule staff? It seems like it might be a bit challenging to have "two" head coaches and every time there's a bad situation, the fan base will be hoping for the second string head coach to take over.
And who is Brady?- 1

Mickey Joseph is going to be the feel good “Rudy” story of Nebraska football. If Trev wants another coach, he’d better hope for some loses.

Ed O was on a podcast recently and he's spending his time partying in Florida with a 20-something blonde that he dragged from Louisiana. I think he's doing just fine living off the LSU buyout. The guy is 61 years old, so I don't know if he would have much of an appetite for a "challenge".
A 20-something blonde woman for a 61 year old man is enough challenge.

It's not so much even running the ball.
I remember when our O & D lines were just beasts. That's what I thought our identity was. The O line just doling out pancakes, and the D line so mean that linebackers didn't have to blitz.
Stupid PED testing. Ruined everything...

What is a "national coach"?

Well, Frosty is gone, the team is 1-2 with a couple horrible looking losses, and OU is coming into town.
If the whole "No fear of failure." ever would have applied, it's now.
We don't fear failure! We're confident in our ability to fail! We have a body of work to suggest that we can fail (though not by a huge margin) more consistently than almost any team in the nation!
GBR!!!

I bet the blackshirts step up and hold OU to less than 1000 yards total offense. I believe in them.

Who wants to go back to some sort of the option?
I really do.
If we're going to lose, we might as well lose playing a style of football that I really enjoy watching and have become somewhat unreasonably emotionally attached to...

I don't regard this to have any clout at all but with everything going on, I've been told that Nebraska is in a bidding war between the Big10 and SEC.
FWIW. which is probably zero
Are we having to pay a conference to take us now? Crap!

Some Big Ten fans posting things that Rutgers and/or Nebraska would be the top 2 choices to be kicked out IF the Big Ten was looking to get rid of some teams to add more.
Interesting.
We currently, and recently, suck at football, but we're still pretty good at attracting eyeballs, so I don't think we're in danger. Illinois, Indiana, Purdue???
Thank you Mickey Joseph
