I know the list itself is meaningless, but it simply reaffirms what all of us already know: that Bo has surrounded himself with a group of assistant coaches that are either not pulling their weight, or are inexperienced and learning on the job.

The only NU coach who came close to being on the list was Rich Fisher, who is probably my favorite assistant coach as well, along with Terry Joseph.

So with the offseason upon us (sort of), what specific coaching changes do you want to see after the bowl game/NSD?

    I'll start:

-We need a new OC. It's time to find a proven commodity as OC who won't continually sh#t the bed as a play caller. If I'm Bo, I go find my guy who runs the style of offense that I want to be run and then let him choose his assistants, with heavy recommendations to keep Garrison, Brown, and Fisher.

-Get rid of Barney. He does nothing. I find it as no coincidence that he just moved from OL coach to TE coach, and this season the OL is as good as it has been in a LONG time, and the TE position was flat out underwhelming.

-To go along with the last one, with the spot on staff open from Barney, hire another offensive assistant. Whether they pass the TEs on to Fisher/Garrison and hire a QB coach, or create a position elsewhere such as a dedicated special teams coach who knows what the hell they are doing.

-Like I just said, find someone who can develop a quality special teams unit. I don't care how it's done, but our ST's are absolutely abysmal.

-With the defense, I'm not opposed to finding a proven DC, but with the direction that this young defense is headed, continuity is key IMO. Keep the staff together on that side of the ball and stay the course.

What say the rest of you?

Hire Mangino as OC, fire Cotton, hire Ganz for qbs.

  2. Bracket sprawl happens. Not only will we be to 8 teams but probably 12 or 16 teams ten years from now. At sixteen teams they put in eight conference champs plus eight at large. Then the Sun Belt and MAC whine and the field is expanded to twenty with ten at large teams.

  3. I disagree that it's classless. Most voters didn't watch that game, they'll only see the scoreline. Make every win as impressive as you can this year, while it's still humans deciding who's number 1. I wouldn't be upset if Bo did the same thing against teams we should out class. In games that could be one or two pointers though, I'd go for one.

  4. KSUcks message board in meltdown mode. They cheered when he returned now they want him gone. They're choice as replacement: Gary Patterson

Looking at the posts on their board I'm really glad Osborne got out a few years early than stayed a few years too long.

  5. Biggest thing to come out tonight is Valentine starting. Sounds like it will end up being Valentine and Curry getting most the reps with Randle getting the starting nod because he's been here and worked hard for it, but only getting 30 snaps or so. Val and Curry are the guys going forward.

What makes you think Randle will only get limited snaps? Just curious, I hadn't heard anything that would lead me to think this

His knee for one thing, gotta keep him healthy for depth. Just things I hear. Having a relative play on the team has some advantages.

I knew you were Barney Cotton.

Drum roll, please: Kicking off my 2013 bowl projections. Keep eraser handy. « Big Ten Network http://btn.com/2013/08/26/dienhart-kicking-off-my-2013-big-ten-bowl-projections/?cmp=user+shared+twitter …

OK....so....I'm assuming that if we play OSU in the conference championship game and they win and go to the NC game, we then go to the Rose Bowl? That's the only way I can see his prediction working out.

If we lose to Michigan and they lose two weeks in a row to tOSU, and we're ranked higher in the BCS rankings, could we get the invite over Michigan?

  7. Oklahoma 60

Missouri 20 (I felt like the Booger, Gabberts, etc. stepped it up some)

Colorado 10 (I get crap on a weekly basis out here)

    Iowa 5

    Wisconsin 5

 I guess I still harbor a lot of angst towards Iowa fans since I was living there during the Callahan years and had to endure non-stop sh*t talk from them

I didn't list them for the same reason I didn't list Colorado - it's not a rivalry if it's made up. A rivalry has to be born, it can't just be declared.

I'd say our rivalry with Oklahoma was made up for the last twenty years we played them. Based on feelings from the 70's and 80's not what was actually happening on the field. Maybe it wasn't made up to you, but I think you kind of need someone creating propaganda or the fan base will pick several or no rivals based on where they live.
