  1. Big Ern,

I love the excitement. I just wanted to post before people start the "we still have 4 games left this year". I agree, the young talent in the starting lineup along with the depth is a good thing for Husker Football going forward. I think we are seeing those befefits already this year. I'm most excited for our offense in 2 years when these guys are in the system for a while.

Martinez (jr) better passer, hopefully bigger stronger

    Burkhead (sr) wow

    Green (soph) bigger and stronger

Heard (soph) assuming he makes it, bigger, stronger, faster

Enunwa (jr) I really like him

    Reed (sr)

    cotton (sr)

    NU's oline!!!!!

    A Rod (jr)

    Qvale, Sirles (sr)

Our entire 2011 oline recruiting class (rs fresh, soph)

It is very easy to get excited about the future; it definately looks bright!!!

ps. As long as Pelini is here, our defense will always be good to great with the rare occasional season in the middle of the pack. Nebraska is a "name brand" again IMHO.

  2. Some people have been saying since he came from colorado that he would want to end up back there

Some people liked Crystal Pepsi too.

I was one of those people, loved the stuff.

You're an old, rare breed my friend. For that I give you a +1.

Unfortunately I was 1 of the 5 total people who enjoyed it.

Loved the stuff when I was little.

Would CU consider the Offensive Line coach from the Jets? Can never remember that guy's name...

So, if my count is right, all 5 people that loved it are Huskerboard (myself included)! That either gives Huskerboard huge bonus points, or HB should just fold up and call it a day :corndance

  3. I disagree with the entire premise that players are so much "bigger and tougher" in the Big Ten.

That they are bigger is not an issue for opinion. Their RB's average 219 pounds --- our RB's for next year --- Rex (202), Aaron green (185) are much smaller. The B10 OLB'ers are 230 on average --- we have L. David at 205-210 or so) E. Martin at 215, S. Fisher at what 205? Their MLBers' are 250 on average. Compton is our heaviest and he is perhaps 230. No... there is no doubt that the B10 is a "bigger" conference. No opinion. Fact.

Tougher? Who knows.. But 20 hits a game to your QB when those hitting him are comparable in size up to perhaps 20 pounds heaver versus 20 hits a game against guys weighing 30-45 pounds more than your QB... that is quite a difference.

I think few would logically argue against the notion that the B10 teams that are much larger are more physical than the teams we lined up against, on average, this year.

Did you pull those numbers from thin air?

Burkhead is 210, David is 210 with only a few months in our strength program, he will pack on 15 lbs of muscle by next year. Compton is around 225 right now, Fisher is 235, Martin is 240, Whaley is 225.

If you look at the top 4 teams in the Big Ten (Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio State and Michigan State) here are the averages (took top 2 running backs at each school for the average)

    DE- 275

    DT- 285

    OLB- 230

    MLB- 227

    RB- 218

Here's what NU is looking at next year. Looks pretty close across the board, but we probably need a little more beef at DE. If David packs on 15 lbs our average OLB would be 230. In other words, you are WAY off base.

    DE- 263

    DT- 288

OLB- 223 (assuming David doesn't add weight)

    MLB- 225

    RB- 220 (Burkhead and Robinson)

Thank you, I posted a roster on one of the very first posts, thinking that would show that this thread is underappreciating NU's size. Making the question raised in this thread a "non-issue". Apparently it didn't get read.

NU is not small, they do have speed, they have a coach that knows the game. To sum it all up, NU may not win the Big10 next year but they will not be lumped with Minnesota, Indiana, and Purdue. That, though not a betting man, I would put money on.

  4. Cy,

I laugh at and enjoy your predictions, I laughed at and enjoyed your "Man Up" post, come to think of it, there is not one initial post of yours that I haven't enjoyed. You are a very valuable poster on Huskerboard, and if a person took offense to your "Man Up" post, they have not been around very long or don't appreciat good 'internet' humor...

That said...please don't worry about pissing off a few posters with a "whole hearted", "attention worthy", "full of content" post. Most people on here wish they had the posting ability that you have.

    Thanks for posting!

I don't think you're giving enough credit to the size of NU's linebackers. Fisher is close to 230lbs (he is just freakin' tall), Martin is in the range of 235-245lbs, Whaley is in the 225 area. I don't have a roster in front of me, just going off of memory. I will see if I can find a current roster and post. If anyone has one saved, please post. I may or may not be wrong :dunno

    My link

We are not near as small as you make us out to be. D. Robinson is 6-1 230lbs, we have size at RB if we need it.

  6. No. 17 Oklahoma State 51, No. 21 Baylor 44: In no way is this a joke. Come back later this afternoon for a video of me explaining my pick.

Colorado 27, Kansas 20: This one is by far my least confident pick. That comes with picking Colorado to win on the road, where its suffered 26-, 33- and 42-point losses this year. But here goes. Rodney Stewart has a big day, and Cody Hawkins hits Scotty McKnight enough times to halt the Buffaloes 15-game road losing streak.

No. 7 Nebraska 38, Iowa State 20: Iowa State's pulled off a pair of wins nobody thought it would at the season's start, knocking off Texas and Texas Tech. But then again, neither team has been anywhere near as good as most thought in the preseason. Nebraska is considerably better, thanks to Taylor Martinez. No passing necessary in this one. The Huskers' don't reach the double digits in pass attempts and roll over the Cyclones.

No. 8 Oklahoma 30, Texas A&M 28: Consider me a believer in Oklahoma's struggles on the road. It's probably unfair to say it necessarily struggled on the road last year, it just played much better competition. This year, though, the Sooners were a muffed punt return away from having a real chance to lose to a bad Cincinnati team and one bounce of the ball away from possibly going into overtime against Texas. Both sides of the ball fell apart in the fourth quarter against Missouri. The Sooners lead 27-14 midway through the third quarter of this one, but hang on late. The Aggies will miss Christine Michael dearly. Cyrus Gray is very good. Michael is better.

Texas 21, Kansas State 20: For all the curves Oklahoma State and Baylor should bring, this game's bringing the hairy moles. Kansas State and Texas might play the ugliest game of the year in the Big 12. Somebody's got to win, and Garrett Gilbert engineers a late drive, continuing his maturation process, and bringing along freshman receiver Mike Davis.

No. 12 Missouri 34, Texas Tech 24: Missouri won't blow out the Red Raiders; it is Lubbock, after all. But it will win comfortably if corners Carl Gettis and Kevin Rutland continue their solid play. The offense will move the ball consistently for 60 minutes, but chalk the Tigers up for an inexplicable turnover in one of the toughest places to play in the Big 12.

Ummm... Ubben, what more would you like Nebraska to have done? Yeah, we had a brain-fart game against Texas, but we've rolled over everyone else this year.

This begs the question: Exactly how good did you think we'd be this preseason? The second coming of 1995 Nebraska?

Pretty sure Ubben is referring to Texas and Texas Tech. He is downplaying ISU's success and saying that ISU doesn't stand a chance against a much better Nebraska team.

  7. If indeed players (one or all) read any of this:

Congrats on a win and keeping it going for 4 quarters even though some mistakes were made, you faught and came out the tougher team. You guys DO have our support! Don't let a few dumass fans piss you off and take that sense of pride away. You are not only Pelini's team, you also play for the University of NEBRASKA. You play for the "N" on the side of your helmet, the N stands for NEBRASKA!!! UNK has an 'Antelope', UNO has an "O", YOU HAVE AN 'N'!!!! You are NEBRASKA!!!! And Nebraska is you. Most of us just wish we had a chance to be on that field with you, that's why it can hurt so much for us. You don't know us, probably never will; but you are our sons, we want you to be your best. As do you.

You guys give many people a "break" on Saturday. You relieve us for a few hours. I just wanted to say congrats on the win, and let you know that win or loss you give me a much needed "break" for a few hours and I very much appreciate it.

"Oh, and don't forget one thing, WE'RE F*****G NEBRASKA!!!!!!"

Keep up the good work guys :horns2

  8. It looked EXACTLY like the hit in my avatar... clean, and a thing of beauty.

Instead of reading the next page and a half, I will just say this: WOW!!!!!!

    I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!!!!

Careless incidental contact should and will be called. Flagrant will be called and player ejected. Martin's hit was not flagrant, and it was not careless; he knew who he was hitting and where (OSU player's head went into Martin's as a result of contact), it was not flagrant for the reason I just stated.

    :bonesflag:

  9. First off, I hated that fact that Nebraska "dropped" (sorry had to) the game to Texas, I found myself cussing at the TV several times. What made it better?:

Eleven months ago my wife and I were blessed with triplets, 2 boys and 1 girl. I had to go to Lincoln to pick them up at their grandmothers and tagged along in a caravan from a nearby town with many people going to the game dressed in RED. I told my wife I didn't want to do this because I wanted to watch the game; she left me no choice! (she worked the night before and wanted to sleep and reminded me "it's just a GAME") But I showed up at my mother-in-law's and she had the kids ready because she knew my intention, "get back home to see the start of the game."

I got back home with plenty of time to unpack the kids and make them a much needed bottle. They finished the bottles shortly after the opening kickoff. This left me with THREE satisfied and happy babies!

Throughout the course of the game I cussed (in "Barney" language) when Texas did something good or Nebraska bad. My one son found it amusing, so he laughed hysterically everytime Nebraska did something bad. My other son, however, cried with the outbursts (he's the Husker fan). My daughter whined and cried the whole time because we weren't watching "Finding Nemo"!

When the game was over, Texas won, Nebraska lost, but I found myself completely satisfied because I spent 3+ hours with my children watching a game I love. I know they don't know the difference but I certainly do. I was tempted to add to my "honey-do" list with holes in drywall, but my one son kept giggling with every "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!" This made me realize that for every disappointed "Huker Fan" there is a happy "Texas Fan."

This is just a game and on to the next one!!!

    GO SKERS!!!!!

  10. This is COMPLETE AND TOTAL BULL****!!!!

I wish Niles and his family would have beat the snot out of these pukes. You know they could have, the douchebags were probably 40 year old, overweight, drunken dirtbags that didn't even play football during recess!!!!

Remember Missouri last year(He was the hero), Niles helped Nebraska win the Big12 North. Yes, the ISU & TT games had bad plays, but he did NOT lose those games. Remember Arizona, remember the hometown Husker fan that had opportunities to play at a multitude of places but CHOSE to play in front of US!!!!

This kid deserves so much more than what we give him.

It hurts me that he isn't playing for US anymore. He's playing for his coaches, team, and family. A group of a**holes took that away from us.

Everyplayer that suited up for the game or practice prior to, deserves to be treated like a HUSKER!!!! It makes me sick that we take more pride in cheering Texas (or whomever) off the field, but feel it's OK to taunt our OWN players in the parking lot.

    WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

What a sad, sad, sad, SAAADDDD life some people lead!!!! Worse things can happen, anyone who watched the Rutgers game knows that losing a game or dropping a ball is far better than some outcomes.

    GROW UP PEOPLE!!!!

    (caps lock off)

  11. ...and the scarey part is that Bo says he is still learning the system. He is definitely an animal...:bonesflag:

PLEASE...don't get me wrong here! I Love (yes, with a capital "L") Lavonte. But he was a front runner with Fisher and Compton, Whaley and Martin (whom I also enjoy) were 2nd string / "or" players according to our defensive geniuses in the Pelini's.

I know Fisher is done, but how scary will it be when Compton and David are behind the defensive front. We will have speed and size along with a player (Compton) that has the defense down pat. This will allow David "to play" and have Will be the "brains".

I would not want to run a credit card through that DEFENSE!!!!!

    :bonesflag:

  12. BTW Worse call of the game.... putting Green in at QB on the 1 yd line.... seriously? After what happened in Washington?

I disagree. Cody is a man at running the sneak. That's why he went into the Texas game the way he did. He can get you 2-3 yards of breathing room easily. Green is 6-4, 230lbs; Martinez is 6-1, 195lbs and not as strong.

Green's fumble was a week ago, Martinez' fumbles were in the same game.

    IMHO

  13. ooooooh...., do I feel sorry for SDSU!!!!

Perfect timing by Bo in my opinion. After a good game that the defense shut down a "great" QB and offense. But before a potential heartbreak game (no matter how well they play, people will expect more). The Blackshirts given mean that the defense will make certain that the Jackrabbits do NOT make them feel like a subpar team.

This way, the Blackshirts are fired up and destroy SDSU and feel they are deserved, and take that feeling into the Kansas State game. I feared if they were given the week before Big12 play, the D would feel they have arrived and possibly be over confident going into the big games. This way, the "entitlement" is gone after a "cupcake" game, and it's time to get back to business.

Defense: You now are BLACKSHIRTS, do NOT let them leave your locker!!!!!!!!!

  14. Wow, it is late in the day after a long one. I was reading your stat leaders as the anticipated Washington game performance. I was getting ready for a game of a 63-56 score.

Thankfully, I read the whole post and it clicked that you're using season stats. So, instead of blasting the post, I whole-heartedly agree.

    :cheers

  15. Washington

    Jefferson

    Roosevelt

    Lincoln

All wearing Husker helmets and throwing the bones!!!

Yeah, with an upside-down Lil Red as a blimp tethered to the mountain.

    This thread is hilarious. :)

And a smaller callahan as well. Gotta have something for the pigeons to poop on

yes, yes, I like it!!!! A statue of Cosgrove at the entrance letting everyone drive right on by.

  16. Rome is one of the best sports guys out there imo. at least i havent found a better one.

    Colin Cowherd for sure.

    :sarcasm

I agree if you remove the "insert sarcasm" emoticon. I would rather listen to 3 hours of "The Herd" than 5 minutes of Jim Rome. Collin has intelligent conversations, Rome pukes out leftover Sportcenter in an "Allstar Wrestling" voice!

I know, this post will NOT be a hit!!!

  17. 10/1- @Wisconsin

    10/8- Ohio State

    10/15- Bye

    10/22- @Minnesota

    10/29- Michigan State

    11/5- Northwestern

    11/12- @Penn State

    11/19- @Michigan

    11/26- Iowa

Wow. There must have been some maneuvering on our part to get the easier conference schedule rotation for 2013 when we play non-con Wyoming, Southern Miss, and UCLA. Can you even imagine that non-con with that conference schedule?

Pretty elite strength of schedule there.

Next year's non-conference schedule is Fresno State, Wyoming, and Washington... That's not exactly a walk in the park either.

Next year's schedule might be the toughest we've ever had... Play the true freshman this year. We're going to need them ready to go.

OK. Throughout all the QB threads I've seen Martinez referred to as a true freshman by several people. I'm not sure this post is stating that, but it made me want to comment on the other posts.

If you, the poster, thinks Martinez (or T-mart, or T-magic, or Crouch Jr) is a true freshman, please remove yourself from the discussion of who the starting QB should be. If a poster cannot read a roster, how in the world can that person assess QB talent.

    end rant!!!

Hercules...the only reason I picked your post was because "freshman" was singular, but you did have "them" as a plural. Again, not attacking your post, just the people that think Martinez is fresh from high school.

  18. I want them to run the wildcat with Burkhead the first play of the game. That would put a smile on my face.

I've read/heard this over and over again. It would be fun/funny, but what I would do is bring out Ron Kellogg III (scout team player of the year) and soak up 80,000 fans saying at one moment: "whaaaaaaaaat"!

    Now THAT would be funny!!!!
