  1. Since every great prospect is visiting on 10/15 UNL should just hire a party bus to drive around the country and pick these guys up.

This would be a great idea, however I think it is called Greyhound....

These recruits are 16/17/18 years old. I don't think they would be able to enjoy a "party bus".

Now if we would fly into their Friday night games with a "red" helicopter and pick them up at the "fifty yard line" after the game to fly them to Lincoln...

Offutt Air Force Base isn't that far away....

    You need a better source.

Haven't we already had this thread......

Oh well, if people put up more pictures of Erin and other up and comers, I'd be more than happy to live through it again. Afterall, I have low standards and think Erin Andrews is HOT.

  3. This expansion stuff is very entertaining. What would happen if Colorado and Utah are denied the Pac10? Would Colorado come begging back to the Big12 and bring Utah with them, or would they get stuck in the MWC or WAC?

I kind felt a kinship with Colorado when Nebraska joined the Big10, but now thankfully I realized it was just pity when the state of Texas tried to edge out the Buffs in favor of Baylor.

  4. *bump*

So has Bell be practicing with the DBs? What spot? How's he look?

Bell's at corner. I'm still not sure why he moved. If he's not a good blocker I naturally doubt if he's physical enough to bring down receiver that are bigger and taller than him.

Not all corners are physical, in your face type guys, either. As hard as it is to believe, as that's not the type of player Bo builds his defense on, but we've got room for one or two of them. I think a perfect example would be Asante Samuel (huge Eagles fan here), a sometime atrocious tackler, very fineses guy, but he still makes big plays in the passing game.

Not to compare Bell to Deion Sanders, but Deion was always thought of being a wuss when it came to tackling. That said, I think we all would be excited to have the next "Prime Time" on our roster. (huge Cowboy fan here :cheers )

  5. I'm no mathematician so I won't be embarrassed when someone points out what I'm missing, but how can these numbers add up?

    Category Pct. of 2009 Total

    Rushing Yards...............100%

    Passing Yards...............100%

    Receiving Yards.............86%

    Total Offense Yards.......100%

If we only return 86% of our receiving yards, how can we return 100% of our total offensive yards? Just a weird thing I noticed.

That said, I think we're poised to be better on offense, but to beat that dead horse, nothing improves until the line improves/gets healthy. If the line has the same sputtering play as last year none of the above numbers mean anything.

    Knapp,

I thought the same thing at first.

But after looking at game stats from random games, "total offense" is figured by adding "passing yds" and "rushing yds". "Receiving yds" although part of "passing yds" are not part of "total offense" equation.

I think I'm more confused now....

  6. Nothing to see here. (hopefully)

They have to prove B Jack got preferential treatment with cash, trips, books, etc.

This is the way I see it: B Jack became great friends with Blake while at UNL. (Blake was NOT part of Jackson's recruitment) When Jackson thought about going to the NFL he sought his coach/advisor on potential agents. Of course Blake would suggest Wichard (sp) whom he has known for years.

The only way this could impact NU is if Blake got compensation from his agent buddy to promote Jackson while on staff at NU or if Jackson took cash in front of his NFL career. I find it hard to believe that Jackson got special treatment while Lucky did not (after all Lucky was the "superstar" recruit).

I see this as a "nothing to see here" as long as Osborne, Pelini and staff don't give them an excuse to see something. The whole situation is on Blake and his relationship with an agent, thankfully, Blake was not here that long.

Let's all hope B Jack did not take a payment from anyone; he might have been promised the world in the draft but at least his eligibilty would have been gone (Since he made himself elibible for the draft).

My thought (and prayer) is that this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with NU outside of have a position coach with connection (friendship) with a person that makes a living off of athletes.

Sounds like a great time to start the Husker Prayer......

  7. KCHUSKER,

You would absolutely love Chadron State in Chadron NE. Tucked in the beautiful hills of NW Nebraska with a beautiful campus and great outdoor life.

I spent four years in Kearney NE and loved every last minute of it!

Like other posters have said, it is all about the people you spend that time with. I've had more fun in cornfields by a bonfire outside of Minden, NE than I've had at bars in downtown Madison, WI. However, I was with friends in the cornfields and my sister in Madison. Although I must say, Madison was pretty fun!

I've done plenty of bonfires, and don't mean to knock UNL too much. Figured I'd start a "lets all get hopped up on :koolaid2: and fight kchusker party". I personally am a big fan of Raleigh and the surrounding area. NC State was small but pretty nice IMO. And IMO Chadron State has neither a beautiful campus nor much of an outdoor life. If you want to shoot things, or rope some cattle it might work for you - but that's about it.

You are right though, it's all about the people you spend time with. How much time are these recruits spending w/ their friends when they visit campus? They might get paired with a couple players but that time will be very limited...and regardless they are outsiders at that point anyway. So that argument is irrelevent when trying to sell the campus to a recruit. They may very well enjoy it after being there for a while...who wouldn't it's college. But if I walked onto that campus, or drove around the neighborhood...I would not consider UNL that spectacular. It's perpetually under construction in some shape or form. You've got crap highways, train tracks, vacant buildings (almost all of O street these days). If you want to go some place nice you end up clear down on 40th...and you better not plan on getting there on a subway or a bike. Bike trails are rare, public transportation doesn't exist.

Reference Wayne Lyon's questionaire (which he based on other recruit's) he gave coaches. He asked about 1) transportation, 2) diversity, 3) weather, 4) large airport/commute from said airport, 5) lodging near school, (ghetto except for cornhusker) 6) jobs, 7) neighborhood within 5 mile radius, 8) shopping

We don't stack up too well against most of the BCS when it comes to a number of these items. Just my opinion.

Sorry KC I didn't mean to come to your "gang up on KC party". I represented my point poorly. Chadron/Kearney are my opinions, I wasn't implying that you would like them.

What I was trying to say was: Everybody has different opinions when it comes to looking at campuses whether it be transportation, architecture, layout, etc. But what everyone enjoyes is good company. The best way for a person to find good company is to find a culture one enjoys. If that person enjoys the culture that Bo Peline has instilled (hard work/business/hopefully winning) he will find Lincoln very attractive.

  9. Oh come on. Hitler was real. It happened. Hell my grandmother is full blooded german and lost family members during that war and was snuck out of the country in a potato bag in the back of a truck. I don't see why it's so stupid or offensive to mention Hitler.

You proved in your own statement why it can be very offensive. You are correct, Hitler was real and the Holocaust/WWII did happen. If he was a cartoon or some character out of a twisted book, the comment would not be offensive.

I don't recall people being murdered or being smuggled out of Austion after a football game or press conference.

  10. If you don't agree with his point just say so. Don't try to devalue his point because his reference supposedly offends you.

Mack Brown has backed up his talk. He has won Big12 Championships, he has won a National Championship. He puts together great recruiting classes every year. He is a guy that respects the integrity and respect of Tom Osborne, whom he has known for years as a coach and administrator. His team has not been in trouble with the NCAA. To me, that is backing up is talk. When you are as good as Texas has been under Mack Brown, you can talk. But yet he remains respectful to NU and has good things to say about our team and coaches.

His talk is definately not cheap!

  11. Before you get your pitchforks and torches out, Mack Brown said some very respectable things about our program.

So what, Hitler had some great things to say about the U.S. before 1941. Talk is cheap and I prefer to judge a man by his actions.

So far I'm not real impressed with Texas or Mac Brown's. :hookerhorns

    WOW!!!

Did someone just make a comparison between Hitler and the Nazi Regime to Mack Brown and the Longhorns?!

    just....WOW!!!!

edit: Mods, If I get banned for personal attacks, am I still allowed to browse but not contribute?

He wasn't comparing Mack Brown to Hitler he was just using Hitler as an example of how talk is cheap.

    Examples for talk is cheap:

Terrell Owens (you know the history)

Pac-Man Jones (telling Goodell that he is changing the morning after he was at a strip club)

GW Bush (declaring victory, but we are still there)

    B. Obama ("I'll fix everything"; it's still broke)

Dan Hawkins ("10 wins", need I say more)

Pederson ("I refuse to let NU slide into mediocrity")

B Callahan (I'm a great coach in all areas)

Do I need to keep going? Comparing someone to Hitler, in whatever context, is disgusting. I'm pissed when people do it to our Presidents, for reasons much more important than college football.

  13. I know what it says on Huskers.com, but have (had) the Sports Illustrated from after that game, and I am pretty sure that there was pic of Coneally, C. Peter, D. Coleman, possibly Troy Dumas all engulfing Stewart in that SI. I am pretty sure that it was the pic that the statue was made from.

I bet one can find many pictures of Blackshirts engulfing offensive players from other teams in that 3-4 year stretch. But I have to believe a website ran by the Athletic Dept. knows exactly what they are talking about. They are the ones that saw the picture, hired the artist, and paid the bill for the darn thing!

  14. yeah very nice young man you just dont see that to much anymore for kids!

You can see it a lot if you look for it. Kids to great things all the time, but the newspapers only write articles on the kids committing crimes.

There are just as many self centered adults (aged 25-50) as there are self centered kids (5-24). I've seen many cases around town (Omaha) where a couple high schoolers help people in need while adults walk by the situation with a "what the hell are you kids doing?" look.

    Good job Prince!!!!

  15. I agree 100%. The only thing that has me worried is the fact that it is an away game on the west coast, in a stadium where fans are buying into hype. This is the kind of atmosphere that makes Lincoln a tough place to play.

I really don't see this being a "marquee" match-up at all. Not even close to NU vs USC or NU vs VT for recent out of conference games. Nebraska fans should be very worried about what the rest of the season will look like if this is a close game at all.

  16.

I dont see washington being as tough a game as everyone else thinks I think that we will be up by 10-14 points midway through the 4th quarter. I wish that we could play texas tech and oklahoma state more in the future to get even with them for those bs losses that we have had rescently to them.

I agree completely. I would put the Washington game below every Big12 game except Iowa State and Kansas and that is considered a 3-way tie. Some people put way too much into the fact that the Huskies beat USC; that was an ugly game and USC gave it to them, not quite as much as the Huskers gave one away to ISU but close.

Nebraska came close (probably should have) to a win at V Tech. Washington's atmosphere might be rockin', but I see halfway through the 2nd quarter that the stadium will be calmed down a LOT. Nebraska wins going away!

  17. Worst case scenario:

The Big 12 doesn't want to lose the TV revenue so they put these games as part of the Fox or ABC/ESPN games so they won't lose part of the Husker TV revenue to other sources.

If the above doesn't happen, Nebraska sells the rights to the games to the Big 10. The Big 10 takes the revenue to put towards making Nebraska "whole" as they enter the conference.

    My .02

  18. iowa st. would be better suited in the MAC, then they would be more competitive. they will never be a relevant football team, and that is just the way it is, we shouldn't feel bad, nor should they. they were lucky to be apart of the big 12, they had a good run, and they were a drag the entire time. conferences aren't charities and they need to figure that out.

Talk about prima donnas. Your views towards Iowa State reflect the arrogance you husker fans have. You are looking at one sport.......one. And in that sport, a very average ISU team beat Nebraska in Lincoln 9-7. That makes you very average. In other sports, you are pale in comparison. Your mens basketball team is the armpit of the Big 12, and every Big ten team now has you circled on their calender for an EASY win. Other sports, same scenario. I never thought Tom Osborne would run away from competition, I always thought he would do what is right. I was wrong.

For the record, I bet you don't win a title in the Big ten this decade. You are going to get your red rumps handed to you. Good riddance. Let the other schools of the Big ten find out what we have known for years. You're a bunch of unfounded prima donnas. Even Northwestern will kick your butt.

This is directed to only CYGUY and other ISU fans that spout trash about the game last year.

Please remember, Nebraska beat ISU 35-17 in a season that got a Nebraska coach fired!!!

I appreciate all fans of all teams, that is what makes sports fun to go to. But if you are going to be a butthead, try to be good at it!
