  1. Colorado, while the athletic department is 3,000,000 dollars in debt, has found $35,000 to purchase 100 Dell Azim handheld electronic organizers as a reward for making a bowl game this last semester.

Are those the little beauties that automatically alphabetize the names of all the hookers you enter into them?

    :rollin

That is some funny sh*# ARHusker

  2. Actually, it wasn't an error at the scorers table. What was up for debate was whether the final stalling call that occured with about 10 seconds left should have resulted in another point. The ref didn't award the point and Nebraska appealed. Just like most appeals, it was denied.

It was an amazing contest. Going in OSU was ranked #1 and Nebraska was ranked #6. I think the Huskers may actually move up after that match. I think the most amazing thing is the Husker's heavyweight (sorry, can't remember his name) was able to avoid being pinned by Mocco. Mocco is a beast and actually had him to near fall a couple times and just couldn't finish it off.

I know the OSU team wasn't happy with their performance, but a lot of credit for that goes to the Huskers.

    Welcome aboard Pokes

I am not trying to argue with ya, but are you sure about the appeal?

My understanding from watching the match and the post-match appeal and reading the articles....is that the final stalling call should have resulted in a "2-point" call for Nebraska..... Penalty points are cummulative during the match and the OSU had locked his hands (1pt) and then was called for stalling (1pt) and then called for stalling again....in which 1 pt was awarded, but because it was the 3rd penalty point, should have been a "2 point award".......

I am a wrestler, wrestling coach and wrestling official.... I truly respect everything that OSU has done for Big 8 / Big 12 wrestling....they are one of the best programs of recent time.... Coach Smith is a stud and so are many of the wrestlers... I was happy to see Nebraska compete the way they did....Coach Manning has this program headed in the right direction

It is nice to see a Big 12 team on top....anybody but that fu$%ing Iowa...

By the way, even if Nebraska was awarded the proper points, the dual would have ended in a tie...... I reported in an earlier post that NU held the tie-breaker...This rule was changed this year, and tie-breakers only go into effect during "team dual tourneys" not during regular duals.

  3. So, NU lost.... that sucks

What a great match last night !!!! It was fun to watch

For those who didn't get a chance to watch, OSU won with a 19-18 score, but after the duel, it was discovered that there was a scoring error in the third to last match...

NU's Pascoe won the match by 7 points, giving Nebraska "3 team" points

In actuallity (sp), he should have won by 8 points (scoring error by head table). An 8 point win would have given NU "4 team" points

With the 4 team points by Pascoe, the final score would have been 19-19....and NU held the "tie-breaker", meaning we finally beat those guys from OSU....it would have been NU's first win over OSU in Lincoln since 1921....

Actually Nebraska won the dual, but a scoring error, that apparently is uncorrectable after the match is over cost the Huskers....Any way, great job by Caoch Mannining and the NU wrestlers.....Cudos to the crowd....sounded awesome on tv. :cheers

  4. Last year I called into a talk show and offered advice simailar to this....concerning potential playoff......Now, I am unsure of how many bowls there now are, so my numbers may be off

I suggested a 16 team play-off using the final BCS rankings to find the top 16... number 17 will be pissed, but hey, it's #17....

Use all of the curent bowls in existance, so no one gets bent out of shape....the cities keep their tourist attractions....

For 16 teams, you would need to use your "top 15 bowl games"...

The 3rd weekend in December play round 1 at 8 different bowl sites...Top 8 winners advance, losing 8 take the bowl payout and go home...(Winners get no $, except for travel expenses paid by bowl to help universities to absorb cost)

The final weekend in December, play round 2 using the next 4 highest ranking bowl sites..... once again, losers take bowl payout for themselves and conf. and go home....Winners take travel stipend and move on

1st weekend in Jan......Remaining 4 teams play in 2 of BCS sites for semi-final games.....losers get paid and go home

2nd weekend in Jan....Championship game at rotating BCS site...... Gauranteed payout for winner and losing school....

Under this scenario, schools don't lose money for extra travel, they still get bowl payout for revenue, bowl sites still get attraction, we get play-off

Now, this scenario used only 15 bowls, leaving maybe 20 bowls left..... Here is were you make everyone else happy..... during the 2nd week of December (after Conf. Championships and before play-off) let these 20 - some bowls select games from #17 - ? for a bowl game .....This would be a bowl site for the unfortunate who didn't make tourney (NIT of football)..... ESPN would make a killing on a complete slate of games during that week, and jsut as many teams get to play at a bowl destination and get some sort of pay-out

Just a thought, probably has a lot of holes....What do you think?

  5. I believe the secondary will be:

Bowman and Grixby at the corners

    Bullocks and Shanle at safeties

    L. Jackson, D. Defrand and Wilson to see a fair amount of playing time

    Agreed

I really think that this will be the starting group

    Bullocks is a given

Grixby has a ton of potential

    Bowman is highly touted

    Shanle faired well last season

**Defrand can do the job, and played more and more at end of last season

** If Jackson qualifies, and accepts a move to the def., look for him to make noise early !!! , possibly giving Grixby a run at CB

** I am not sold on Wilson yet, but he may be a player

    :cheers

  6. Without seeing next year's team on the field, I am hesitant to predict much yet...

Going into it blind, I would like to think that we can win the 1st 4 at home, add Baylor ..... and probably beat KSU in Lincoln (hell, should have beaten them in Manhatten this year)........ I could see a 6-5 season and a BOWL GAME to follow...

No matter what bowl game, expect fans to flock to any destination....YOU DON'T KKOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT UNTIL IT'S GONE.... theory

TT, OU, KU, CU, and MU will all be extremely tough to get..... KU-MU-CU on the road are difficult anyway, but especially the way things are going.....OU is still in a class by themselves, and TT may be a toss up game....

I think we beat Pitt and ISU at home !!!!

  7. [

He had to get out of OU though. He would of always been 3rd on the food chain under Stoops and Venables(sp). I hope he didn't tell any of the kids that he recruited that he was going to be at OU for awhile.

    Agreed :horns2

Bo did show that he is able to run an effective defense at NU..

but, at OU, he is just going to be identified as the "Co-D Coordinator", which means that ..who really knows if it is Bo or Venables doing a good job...

This move is a great move for Bo ( has the move been finalized, or are we still speculating?)....... If he is successful at LSU for a few years, then he will be the next "hot thing" (Urban Meyer).

  8. Personally, I am glad to see that most of the posts support JD.....

Granted, his play at QB really cost NU at times last year.....but that doesn't necessarily make him a horrible player or person !!!!!

Simply means that JD wasn't ready or able to run the WCO....He came here expecting to run the option 1st and throw 2nd.....

Absolutely NO PLAYER ON THIS TEAM put more time and effort into making this thing work..... He poured his soul into learning the system.... and to "run the kid into the ground" like some people have is just plain unfair !!!!!

Joe should enter Spring as the #1 QB ...... and be given the opportunity to show improvement...

I personally do NOT think that he will WIN the job, but the right thing to do, is to give him a chance....

Hopefully he will do well, and be in the mix....if not, I hope that he will be positive about a position change..... or will transfer to a school that gives him a chance to succeed....

He is a good kid.....He stood firm and took most of the blame for losses last year....NO EXCUSES.....He has great character and leadership skills,.....just may lack the tools for WCO

  9.

    Former Fan and AR Husker:

Thank you for the entertainment !!!!

I think you both have very valid arguements....

I understand "working your way up the ladder", but I also understand that if a guy is head and shoulders better, he may climb the ladder skipping a couple of rungs..

Joe should be listed #1, and none of this "co" sh#@....... No one put more effort into this team than he did last year....Yes, he sucked it up at times, but it wasn't lack of effort or intensity... I am assuming that no one on this board was perfect at his/her job during thier initial training phase....

Taylor may be the best guy for the job.... Once the coaches see him in practice, if they feel that he is one of the best (which they already do based on film), then they should vault him ahead of Gantz, Stuntz, Davis, Goodman,.....remeber, they have already have had a long look at these guys....(I know, they will get better just like JD)....

I am saying that he should start lower on depth chart, but if the hype is correct, and he can play, he should climb the chart RAPIDLY.....

Anyway, I have enjoyed reading the verbal "jousting" between the two of you.. I was laughing out loud reading both of your arguements.....BRILLIANT :cheers

  10. This kid had better be as good as advertised, or we are in deep trouble at DB...

Elamassian (?) has already shown the inability to coach... and if these guys aren't as good as their billing, it could be a long season .......

I look for him to start and have a great season....and probably leave early

  11. No one would be happier to see this NU beat the sh#@ out of Stoops and Co. , but aren't we jumping the gun a bit....

Yes, we will be improved to some extent.... Can't expect young kids, even juco kids to turn this around in one year.

but, last time I checked, OU has a top 5 program ESTABLISHED, and they just added a great recruiting class, that included guys, who WE THOUGHT WOULD BE SAVIORS IN LINCOLN (Smith, Harris, Granger)....... Combine this with their great classes the past 3 years, it is RELOAD time in OU

NU will be improved, OU will not be AS strong, the game in Lincoln will be beter than this year's game, but OU is still class of Big 12 ( :steam ).

  12. You are right on KCHusker

Ross was the only positive on on offense

    BC loves this guy

If every player had Ross' heart and guts, maybe we wouldn't have lost a few of the games we lost

Lucky-L. Jackson- B. Jackson will be battling for #2

People who honestly believe that this recruiting class is going to turn things around immediately are fooling themselves......and are sitting themselves up for a hug let-down....

Expecting this class to win immediately is really unfair for the recruits....Be patient and give them time to succeed....They will take us to the top, but it may be a few years.

  13. As a coach, I look for the following things for a quarterback,

    1.  Must be a leader

                - able to handle responsibility

                - Doesn't get to "high" or too "low" drung game

    2.  Must have the instict to be a play maker

                -  ability to make something out of nothing

    3.  Must be one of "football" smartest guys on field

                -  2nd "coach" if you will

    4.  Decent arm and escapability speed

    5.  Good decision making skills

These are what I look for, but then again, my teams haven't played for many high school championship either

    Good list HANC.

I would add toughness to that list too - need a guy who can take a hit and still get to his feet without being all swimmy-headed or intimidated. Someone who can make the pass even with a DE in his face at full tilt and not take his eyes off the target.

One thing I would change in your list though - it's hard to know who's a playmaker and who isn't unless things break down. However, a QB that sees the whole field, recognizes an opportunity, and then goes for it without hesitation is the kind of guy that will make plays out of nothing. So, I think I would put vision, decisiveness and alertness in lieu of "being a playmaker" just because it's easier to see and measure.

    IRISH!

We are on the same page Irish......

Good and correct (in my opinion) addtions to the post.

Let's hope NU has one of these guys in their stable of QB's :cheers

  14. As a coach, I look for the following things for a quarterback,

  15. :woo

Just saw on "harrah's sports sound-off", Sean Callahan (Husker Ill.) says that Smith will announce on Wed. , but everyone he has talked to says NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.....

We will hold our breath....come on Smith

Just talked to a relative in OKC, and he says reporters feel down there that it could be NNNNNN

  16. I see that rivals ranks this guy as a 2 :star ..... the fact that we are losing Mickens, who is ranked as a 3 :star .. isn't good news, but not necessariy bad either. Mickens is a hair faster, but Wilson is a bit biger.

Wilson has 3 yrs of eligibility left ..... sounds like an athlete.... Did anyone else want this kid? Rankings don't make the player..... BC must have sensed that Mickens was a "soft verbal" so he acted quickly..... He must have liked what he saw with Wilson.

  17. :cheers

I am game for the Royals Night out and/or the Spring game. KC Husker and I already tailgate together..... it would be good to get together so we could put faces and names to board members....yes, even formerfan :thumbs

Anytime is a good reason to drink and talk Huskers BABY !!!

  18. :cheers

I'm telling ya, this class will go down as one of the best recruiting classes ever at NU...... This is even after a sh$%y season....

Let the coaches get a few more classes to join these guys, and the BIG RED will be back at full force before long....

I agree with the JUCO route.... I think they have done a nice job of bringing in a good percentage of guys who may be able to contribute right away...(ala KSU), but were smart enough to load up with high school talent that will now have a little time to develop !!!!

We will finally have decent depth and good competition for PT.....something we have lacked in recent years !!!!!!

  19. :clap

We now have two 4 :star WR to go with a 4 :star QB, to go with a 5 :star RB and another 5 :star "athlete"......If for some reason SUH plays on the OL, we would then have a 4 :star OL man to go into the mix.....Throw in a 4 :star kicker and we have a lot of guys with POTENTIAL coming in on the offensive side of the ball..

    HOLY sh#t, I'M PUMPED

COME ON AND JOIN US REGGIE !!!!!! :worship

  20. Who cares...he never would have qualified anyway...let someone else waste a scholy on him

    :horns2

Exactly..... and if scholly is freed up to give a guy like Tomerlin (TE), then I am happy that he decommitted....

The DL has picked up enough......if Jones stays committed, we may have not pursued Suh as heavily...... Suh will be much better than Jones, and he will qualify academically

I wish Jones the best, no hard feelings, but did he ever screw up !!!! He will be Sooner and Horn ass, while the Big Red will be rolling in a few years. :cheers

  21. I agree with the guys who are projecting somewhere around 7-4.....

We will win the ones we are supposed to, we will beat ISU and KSU and Pitt at home.

The recruitment excitement is understandable....HELL, I am stoked !!!! , but if you HONESTLY believe that one class can make a difference, you are kidding yourself, and are setting yourself to be pissed off all next winter too.

The ship is beginning to right itself, but in college football these days, it is a process to rebuild.....Let's face it....We no longer reload (at least for now), we REBUILD......Rebuilding takes PATIENCE......

Let's be realistic, if this team can finish with a winning record, it will be a start....by setting too high of goals, you are not giving this staff a chance to be successful.

NOW, if we don't go bowling next year, some heads should roll !!!!!!
