  1. :wtf

What do Rodney Piccou, Leon Jackson, Marlon Lucky, Broderick Hunter, Barry Cryer have in common ?

    1. They are all "prize" gets for the 2005 recruiting class...currently ranked #1

    * nice job of recruiting :)

    AND

    2. They are all struggling to reach the requirements to enroll. How many of

these "studs" are never going to be on campus because of academic

reasons.... Meaning, a wasted scholarship offer and a "big" hit to our

2005 class. Don't you think that maybe the coaches may want to

look at how close an athlete is to the proper grades? I can see a

few kids, but at least 5 big time guys......common on

  2. :wtf

All of a sudden, even with the highly ranked recruiting class, I begin to wonder if it will be enough to plug the holes?

I was hoping some of these "hot-shots" could red-shirt, but hell, we may need most to play NOW.

With Pilkington, Fabian, and now possible LeKevin Smith (?)... Smith is not ready for the NFL..... Hell, he couldn't even take over a "series" last yr. let of lone of game.... He is not a "difference maker", but we need him

** Rumors saying that Boateng is headed to Florida

With all of this, and a month left of recruiting......What NOW becomes our priority in recruiting?

My Thoughts: (top 5 needs at this point)

    1. Reggie Smith: We need a tall, physical DB to replace Fabian

    2. Suh: (DT): If you can't stop the run, you can't win.

    * Plus Cryer needs to get the damn grades !!!!

    3. Chris Brooks: We need an impact player here.

    4. Brandon LaFell: See above (Listed behind Brooks, because I feel we have

    a better shot at Brooks)

    5. Adam Meyers-White: Another shut down DB to add depth

These are just HANC's priorities... If we could get all 5, I would be happy as pie :clap

  3. . Maybe I'm wrong but I think Bo will have to wait at least a year or two more to get a head gig. I could be wrong though.

You are right on target newearthhusker. I don't believe Bo is going to be given an opportunity quite yet. He needs at least another year under Stoops... I see Stoops as being the Hayden Fry of 2000's..... He will end up producing a number of very good HC from his staff eventually.

I think Bo will be a HC it time, but not yet

  4. Ok, does last night's showing by Oklahoma help or hurt Nebraska's chances with Smith...or maybe it has NO effect at all

Did Oklahoma lose thier elite status a little which helps Nebraska.... Did the youthful DBs make Smith think he may sit a few yrs....

    OR

Did he see how pathetic OU's DB's were and believe that he can jump right in and start for a top 5 team and "Stoop's" coached team?

    What do you think

I'm not sure, but if anything does, Fabian Washington leaving should have a huge effect on getting Reggie....One less DB to beat out.

Listening to 1620 the zone and Crabtree just talked about Smith

Said he is "underground" and no one has talked to him.... Did say that the OU game may have influence..(as I stated in other post)..... Said it was obvious that Smith could go to OU and play right a way, just like NU.

Crabtree also said do not rule out USC :wtf

He said he wouldn't be surprised if Smith change his mind and went with USC, but then said that OU and NU are still front runners and Smith may not decide until signing day

  5. OK OK I am not trying to spark "panic", just creating conversation

Did USC's performance in the OB have an impact on Lucky?

I know he has confirmed and recpnfirmed his commit and even told USC to stop calling, BUT....

They looked awesome....and sh@t, could the broadcasters "recruit" any more for those bast@$rds... They actually said, if they were a kid thinking about college football, that USC is a no-brainer ( paraphrased)

Warm weather, Pete Carroll, chicks in swim suits, home state, 2 time NC with a guaranteed #1 pre-season ranking, #1 or #2 Heisman hopeful, etc....

Do you think it swayed him?

I do NOT, I think Lucky is a Husker :horns2

    Just looking for opinions

  6. Ok, does last night's showing by Oklahoma help or hurt Nebraska's chances with Smith...or maybe it has NO effect at all

  7. thanks for starting the topic.....never get tired of speculating, that's the only thing that keeps us going.

Hoyamann....right on bse with you analysis of each team...

OU will slip a little, and I think that last night's loss may create a bigger "hang-over" than people might think

Texas should be favorite in south

T A-M: biggest disappointment in bowls (OU ?).... May have gotten my nod for

south next yr. until they looked horrible in bowl..Franchionne is better

    this team showed.

TT: Can't figure this team out....Week to Week, game to game

    North:

ISU: most returning starters in north....but I think they really over-achieved

Got on a roll and believed in the hype.... could make noise, but not good

enought to come into Lincoln and win...( I know.......I know...SMU)

KU: This is the most dangerous team in north....tons of injuries this season.

very talented and it scares me to have that game at Lawrence next yr.

(Plus Mangino could win coach's wrestle-off in event of tie)...

    Agree with Touchdown Tommie

CU: sanctions will catch up.....but we play there

MU: Probably should be favorite again, but will Pinkel wake up in time ?

KSU: Should still be answering questions and self-doubting over this yr.

NU: Can only be better... Yr 2 of staff, system.....incoming talent....Have

a chance, but difficult road games (KU-MU-CU) make things unlikely, but

it will happen soon !!!! :cheers

  8. Could anyone let me what players from NU are playing in any of the games this year? And which games they are playing in. Thanks

    KC Husker

I read that Barrett Ruud is going to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

He is the only one that I have heard so far.

I doubt there will be anymore. I remember at the last game against Colorado listening to the Seniors being announced and I hadn't really heard of any of them except Ruud. This senior class just never materialized.

(And please don't start an argument about poor recruiting or coaching's sucking.)

I agree that he may be the only player with the obvious potential to move on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see

Seivers or Thomas get invited to at least one of the post-season games.

  9. Could anyone let me what players from NU are playing in any of the games this year? And which games they are playing in. Thanks

  10. Former Fan,

I can buy into some of the points in your post. I am a fan of the option/power/play action pass type of game that we have seemed to abandoned at all costs.. Maybe that is why I was so pissed at times this year.

On the other hand, athletes make the system work... Horses win the race... We had numerous dropped passes, errant passes all over the place, consistantly failing to scan the field..... These are the athletes not responding.... Let's give the system a chance with a "true" WCO qb, WR whom can actually run routes and catch consistantly, and linemen who are recruited to pass block (the line did pretty well considering).

In my book, the jury is still out on BC, but to compare him to Ferentz and Stoops at this point in unfair... Remember, Ferentz sucked it up for at least 2 years before he got "his type" of players.... Stoops hasn't always been a genius..evened used John Blake recruits to win NC... Both are top notch coaches and I would love to have either one, but who is to say the BC won't be near their quality when he gets kids to run the system.....

Coaches can't run, throw, block, catch, tackle,etc.... Only kids can do the job between the markers..

With that said, I think BC was dumb enough to lose a couple of games with his ridiculous play calling...ISU-KSU-SMU

How was that for riding the fence :woo

  11. I was unable to see the CaliFlorida game myself, but got many reports from kc husker (thanks man).... and it sounds like to the kid game play.... According to articles in the paper, he feels he has something to prove whenever he plays....He has many critics and he feels like he needs to silence them...(ala... Brett Farve)

By reading the posts and getting reports, I hear that he always seemed to know where the "OPEN" WR was...Man is that refreshing :clap .

I personally hope he will be willing to redshirt and learn th e offense, but many true freshman qbs have made immediate impact in college and at big universities....Chris Leak did fairly well at Florida....(not an easy offense to learn)...

So if he happens to be the best QB on campus next year, then let's play him.

Correct me if I am wrong (which I sure someone will), but he seems to be the most highly touted QB recruit since Frazier, and he turned out to be pretty adequate :smokin .

I know that Newcombe and Dukes were hyped quite of bit, but I don't remember them getting all of this attention....Hype doesn't put points on the board. Rmember POTENTIAL is the most wasted resource on earth, but this kid may be what BC and Husker Nation is looking for.

Just do not judge him right of way.... Let him get his feet wet...He will make mistakes!!!!!!

  12. It is hard to pick just one play. You guys have nailed all the great ones.

Fraziers Fiesta run, Backflash, Harris and Conneally meeting at QB in OB,etc..

One that hasn't been mentioned, and may not rank too high in recent time, but was huge at the time is the "Bounce Pass" from Gill to Fryar to Krenk... I am not that old, but was at this game and it was nuts.... Innovative at the time to say the least....especially from TO :horns2

  13. Just listened to a live interview with Fabian (1620 the zone).... very good interview...Fabian sounds like he has got it together.... states family as only reason he is leaving....Had very positive things to say about staff, recruits, and future of Nebraska..... Took all the blame for his "down" season... Said it was his fault he played poor at times, not the system/coaching... Also said it is very difficult to leave the program, but family concerns made the decision "easy".....

This guy has nothing to hide, no reason to "protect" the program, so I feel better about the whole picture..... Fabian said he has no idea why other players have spouted the bullsh#$@ that has been said. :worship

  14. Finally..... Although disappointing from a fan's perspective, it is refreshing to see a young man leave the program with good intentions.... News reports say that he made his decision last week after a long time friend had been killed, and also do to the fact that his younger brother lives in a gang infested area....Sounds like he decided that life is too short to put your dreams on hold, and that he would like to have the resources to help his family.....You have to admire that....Good Luck to Fabian and thanks for coming to Lincoln. :worship

  15. He decommitted according to Insiders. No Suprise! He is now considering several teams.

Thanks for the update OKHusker. Good work... I'm not surprised. I think he just got caught up in the hype of the official visit...

  16. Sounds pretty decent for SU. OSU now opens up to but I'm betting Gundy gets that.

I would have to believe that Gundy would be the front runner... Syracuse would be lucky to get Bo..... Wonder if Gill will pursue OSU job hard or not.....very familar territory for him.....OSU may een inquire about Bo is SU falls through...They would love to wrestle away Bo from OU

  17. [sounds like he's not a top 2 finalist according to a pitt paper I read. Between Rhoades their dcoordinator and interim coach kinda like bo was here and cavaugna (sp?) coordinator from pros. BUt it does say he's still in contention but don't think he got a second interview like other two did.

Heard a rumor that Pederson may have had something to do with Pelini not getting a second interview... Does anyone have anything else here? Pederson had no comment and neither did Bo....Could be old news, but I thought I would throw it out here.... I hope Pederson didn't hamper Bo's progress as a head coach. :wtf

  18. Horne gone... I agree, not the best PR move BC.... but if he keeps him and just doesn't give him playing time, then we will have to listen to Horne "rip" the program next year after the season... By the lack of playing time (12 carries or maybe 21 ?) it is obvious he wasn't going to be in the mix anyway. BC feelsvery comfortable with his stable of backs without Horne... This gave BC an opportunity to dispose of a guy whom he wasn't going to use, and at the same time he was able to make it seem like he will not tolerate off-the-field problems... Double win in BC eyes......Personally, I wouldn't have minded seeing Horne try his luck as a SE.

  19. I know Fabian didn't play great at times, but he always seemed to be the leader of the secondary. This is not good news guys... BC needs to really turn up the heat and land Adam-Meyers White and Reggie Smith....Leon Jackson on def (?).... Right now I am unsure of who the CB will be next yr... wait until signing day and spring ball. :(

  20.

I've said before that winning cures everything. And I'll grant that the players leaving could be whiners. But I don't care if we go undefeated next season - if the disgruntled player bit continues and it becomes obvious he's disrespecting the players (good or bad), he's got to go.

    IRISH!

Good points, I don't agree with all, but most.. Winning does cure everything, especially in Lincoln.... Don't you expect some of the disgruntled whining to continue a bit? I expect that we will see a few more 'defectors' after next season too... I believe that a few more of "Frank's recruits" may become frustrated when BC brings in his own players and they see the field much earlier than some of the veterans... If BC's own recruits start defecting, then I totally agree with you, a change will be needed.

  21. Agree with you DJR313. Next year will be a measuring stick to see the direction bC is taking this program...Don't expect much improvement, but we definately need to see PROGRESS. We didn't see that this year. Look to see BC play many young kids (his own recruits). He showed this year that he wanted 'his guys' to play, even if they weren't ready... If no progress is shown, it will be time to worry.

Response to KC husker: Huskers Are National Champs

A little fanclub started on campus in early '90s...

Bring back the glory baby! :horns2

  22. and the list keeps growing

New WR coach from Miami Dolphins?

Marc Trestman, currently the WR/QB coach of the Miami Dolphins -

    Proile: http://www.miamidolphins.com/lockerroom/co..._trestman_m.asp

    , ,

Wow. What a hire this guy would be. I would assume he would be hired as the QB coach and Norvell would move to recievers?

To me, this hire makes the most sense as the Dolphins are currently in the process of turning over the regime to Saban and Trestman will most likely be in serach for a job. Also, the Dolphins, as we all know, are NO WHERE near the playoffs, so he could be hired as soon as the season ends this week. Just as obvious are his ties to Callahan and the WCO system.

Proven coach with a great track record. Sounds like the guy we need to develop Harrison and Taylor and further progress Dailey and Adams.

Great stuff Nebr. Bob. From an fans perspective, based on this info. I agree that this would appear to be a great hire for NU. The guy's track record speaks for itself.

  23.

someone will have to help me out here but I cant remember the linemens name that wanted to leave he was from big 11 country. But Callahan went and talked to his parents about staying. So I wouldnt quite say the Callahan does not care. It seems like fans from other schools are the ones that are so worried about what Callahan does.

Happy New Year KC husker... That player you are asking aobut is Chris Patrick and I believe he is from Michigan... He was leaving the team, but BC talked him and his parents into the kid staying in Lincoln. It has been reported that Patrick's parents saying that BC has been "very good" to Chris... I think that BC does care a little bit, either that or this kid is a stud and BC is kissing some butt so he will stay :cheers
