  1. it isn't very glamorous and little has been said about the kicking game, which was pitiful last year, but this kid could win some close games for us as a freshman...i think we will be damn glad we got him hunter
  2. as long as bc is here, coz will probably be along for the ride too. i say it will be 2 years until we have the chance to get substantially better, but if 3 to 4 years from now, we are still not performing to blackshirt standards, then i think bc will feel the pressure from the fans to drop coz like a hot potato........and it would not surprise me to see this happen, i just don't think coz is right for NU, for some reason in my mind, he doesn't fit.....could be wrong though, hope so..... hunter
  3. the thing that bothered me most was jd never showed any significant improvement from the beginning until the end of last year......i can understand a rocky start based on an offense he didn't grow up in, but we should have seen some flashs of brillance along the way, but only witnessed inconsistency. i just don't think the wco is for him, but he does have some talent, maybe for another position as others have suggested.........also solich didn't see too much in his play either, like it or not, that is why he never started ahead of Lord, because i am sure frankie felt the pressure to open up the offense, but just couldn't see it in the other qbs that were available hunter
  4. a little behind on the coaching situation at NU, but can someone tell me who are the special teams coach(s)? whoever they are, they need to look real hard at the new guys and work on this aspect of play, because we were horrible on ST's last year. Punt and KO returns were dismal and defense on ST was not good either. hopefully they will look at everyone who may be able to spark the punt/KO returns so our opponents will have to respect that aspect of the game. hunter
  5. there is no question that we better get special teams play back to at least average or above. we have to have the whole package to be a contender.......although there is nothing worse than a fumbled punt, bc needs to look real hard for someone who can break a runback and all special team play must get much better, soon.
  6. once again, to win some games, we will have to get some help from the defense, while we patiently wait for the offense to gel, with all the new players that will start on the O-side of the ball.....the real question is, for me, can Coz get the boys together (lots of newbies here too)? can he get them to play zone part-time and man-d the rest of the time effectively? i think if he is smart he will try to simplify things for the defense ( i would rather see them in zone 80% of the time), the same thing BC should have done for the offense last year......you gotta learn to walk, before you can run!

    NU vOU

i will give my opinion after NU plays 4 -5 games in the fall.....we are all hoping for much better, but it takes a lot of chemistry and good coaching and some time to make real progress....remember, most of these guys that will play together this year will be doing so for the first time, with little more than 30 days to "get-it-togehter".......so don't expect too much too soon hunter
  8. thanks for the replys......i agree with both posters and their thoughts...time will tell, but most of the defensive talent was the same as the year before, i am still just trying to figure the "fall-off" in play........it just seemed like the boys were confused with the defensive philosophy.......it was just painful to watch what i considered would be at least their strong point with some consistency......sure the oposition had talent, but we just seemed to be standing around out there so many times, with a look of confusion IMHO....and that is indicative of a coaching prob.. lots of good defensive players coming on board this fall, so if the results aren't better, we may indeed have a prob with BC's buddy.........hopefully I am wrong ........also a good coach will coach/play his guys to their strength, (zone or MTM)not just to his system (at least not until the talent arrives to make that scheme work in his system) if he wants good results NOW.......i think both BC and KC were a little more caught up with instilling their "systems" whether the talent was available or not, which probably cost NU some wins, in the short run at least.... Hunter
  9. i am just wondering if Coz is the right guy for defensive coach at nebraska. he sure had trouble getting his guys to buy into his system last year, IMHO. sure Pelini was popular and the guys liked him, but i am wondering if Cos can relate to college players like Pelini could.........anyone see it different? hunter
