  1. We are all in Omaha and getting them to go to a bar to watch the game in Omaha is pretty much zero problem (except for one guy) but when it comes to getting them to go to Lincoln for a game, you think I was asking them to help me move my collection of pianos and anvils.

Anyone else have that group of friends?

The excuses range from ones that are okay: I want to watch it at home with my son, dad, whatever.

To terrible: I dont like crowds or I hate going

  2. So it was an online class?

By now everyone should realize I'm close to this situation, I'm not CJ or RP, and from my understanding of what's going on is the NCAA Eligibility Center made an error from the start thinking these were online/computer based courses and are now trying to say they don't think they were "core-curriculum" (last time I looked Alg, Spanish, and Physics were in the 16 core courses required for NCAA Eligiblity according to their website). Also in the state of Texas a student, depending on District, can take as many classes in the summer that the school allows for credit. Not to get into too much detail, it's all riding on the appeal from the school in question, Nebraska can't do anything. A good thing here is the School District is watching because it feels no wrong has been done. I know some will say "if CJ would have....." but that's not the point anymore. CJ woke up late like most kids and has done nothing but bust his ass to correct his mistake, IMO he has, and because somebody at N.E.C assumed his classes last year were online he gets heldup. Got to love America were murderers, rapist, and other prisoners can get a free college education from tax payers but some kids can't even get student loans or get cleared to attend college on a scholorship!

Yeah, maybe you mentioned online classes before and I missed it. Those are a slippery slope right now, not as "norm" as college credits taken online.

They will be, very soon. In fact it would not shock me if in the next 5 years we have a good % of high school students taking classes online, I think most homeschooled kids will switch over to it and it will also give high school teachers a great chance to earn extra money.

Right now though, at the high school level, those online classes are very new, same at the undergrad level. There is a lot of "gray" with them at times.

  3. I don't know who this bro is, but his first post in this thread is quite reasonable. And it's that exact reasonable stance that draws knee jerk reactions from several posters here who automatically assume you're taking the extreme opposite stance and want Bo's balls cut off.

Opinions on Bo's behavior at College Station last year vary, but if you look at the "body of work" of this poster, including his subsequent posts in this thread, you'll get a clearer picture of why people have reacted to him the way they have.

I don't agree with the name-calling, but I find the reaction to this person's several posts quite reasonable.

I also would be concerned with Endo's apparent misinformation about this softball game, as well as name-dropping the fact that he was invited to join by a Mod. Being buddies with a Moderator of this board does not give a person license to behave however they wish.

I would remind anyone that this is a Nebraska message board. It should come as no surprise that Nebraska fans would take it poorly that someone is cracking on their team, coach or players.

I'm completely aware that challenging the status quo upsets people. I don't participate in the name calling, and I find it funny that troll is so quick to be thrown out there. I do not give a damn about reputation and whether or not someone has a million posts or is in the teens, I can see a reason or two why someone would feel that way, but in the end it is a non-starter.

Bo is a fantastic defensive coach. His ability to be a step ahead of an offensive coordinator is something you just can't teach. There have been a ton of coaches who have learned his system but haven't been able to see the chess pieces like he does. It is a gift, and it is the reason that he is an excellent defensive coordinator. He has a system, he knows the ins and outs of it, he knows the adjustments, and he has surrounded himself with folks who by-in large are great teachers of technically sound football. In 2009, we had Suh, but the other guys around him, the way they played, was great. A few fellow coaches in the Big XII were saying that we had the most technically sound DL in the country that year, and another program in the conference singled Matt O'Hanlon out as our best defensive player on their scouting report, not ol' #93. That is high praise for a kid who earlier in 2009 was the scapegoat of many a Husker fan for his perceived gaffe in Blacksburg. Hell in 2008, I remember a text during a game about how lost #33 was and what a worthless player he was (kneejerk reaction sure). The point is he came a long long way under this defensive staff.

I am a Husker fan, and I was encouraged to join by a moderator. I wasn't coerced or anything of that nature. I was simply told that I might enjoy the group and to take a look. I dove in head first, I'm not about sugar coating anything, but nor do I have an agenda against Bo. It is the opposite, I'm actually very much pro-Bo, but I'm not blinded to his faults or problems. Like anything, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, that same analogy applies to coaches. A coach is only as good as his weakest qualities. As a head coach, there are times where you have to go out in public and do a sell job for the program. Like it or not, that is part of the job of a head coach, to schmooze with some boosters and in return, they scratch the checks it takes to keep you employed. You conduct yourself professionally and not embarrass the program, and those checks keep rolling in. Whether you like that reality or not is another discussion altogether, but that is how big time college athletics works. The other side of the token is true, you piss off enough people who scratch those checks and you find yourself without a job. At the end of the day, nothing good comes from alienating yourself from the very people who can potentially save your program and some of the same people who are partially responsible for you having a job in the first place.

Okay anyone else check out huskeronline.com and think that this is Jawbreakingsafetyplay? Same drawn out long answers that say nothing and pathetic "I am a Bo fan, but..." sentences. Only difference, he doesnt have his two or three boyfriends over here to protect him.

  4. The softball thing never happened, never even close. Two reasons, one is that I know, two is that we have these thingies called cell phones, those phones have cameras and video functions. If you think that not one parent at that game would have taked a picture or vidoe of that, you are crazy. Period. Think about it, if Pelini goes to a Burger King there are pictures of it, but he "freaks out" at a softball game and there is not one picture?

    Just stop it.

Secondly, the reason some people, not all, but some husker fans dislike Pelini's "actions" are because they seem to still be invested in a former coach.

  5. I know one guy who says he'd be a bigger fan but he can't stand that constant whining or gloating that comes after each game and doesn't want to be associated with those fans.

Personally, I get a little turned off by the extremists as well - I may think all those things, but I have the restraint to keep it to myself because usually a couple weeks later you realize how ridiculous it would have sounded if you'd said it aloud. However, I probably piss a lot of people off with my extreme highs and lows during bball season, so I can't say a whole lot...

    100% true

Being with super fan while out at a game or bar is one thing, being with super fan who has to "educate" all others on all things Husker is lame.

  6. I dont know who will be a better linebacker coach but just because you did not play the position, doesnt mean you can't coach it or lean it very well.

I never play WR but it is probably one of the positions I coach best, I have a very hard time coaching DB's though.

  7. I thought this would be interesting.

I lived in Able (1144) a room for 3 people during my freshmen year. I have never talked to either of those two guys again, ever. I did not hate them or anything like that but I have just never talked to them or even really seen them again.

From my Frat house I am still in touch with two guys, we talk all the time.

From my off campus house, I lived with 4 other guys, I am in touch with 3 of them still.

  8. Sometimes people act like Bo is some kind of "special needs coach". Of course he did well, its a 15 minute presser.

The thing is, Bo doesn't exactly have a history of stellar press conference performances. But he realizes it's part of the job. And he's getting better at it. At least he didn't bite anyone's head off. Or act ticked off at stupid questions.

Yeah, I know but it is still sooooo condecending in its tone. There is a difference in not liking the fact that he has to do them and not being able to.

I dont like painting houses but I can do it. I dont really need people standing over me going "Good job, who's doing a good job, thats right, you are doing a good job"

I think we're all just breathing a sigh of relief that Bo didn't portray the same image he did in his 2008 pressers. Or on the sidelines of aTm last year. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean.

This season can't start soon enough!!!

  10. For all the criticism Taylor took about the whole 'be a leader' thing, imagine being a freshman anything where leadership is expected. Now imagine playing under a veteran like Suh. Suh's doing something, and since you're supposed to be a leader, you're supposed to 'get after him,' 'encourage him,' 'lead him.' Replace Suh with any upperclassmen you like. Tell me what you'd say to those guys when you're three or four years behind them and green as wetland grass? Most guys would keep their yaps shut.

As I've said before, Taylor's situation was ridiculous. Usually QBs are at least redshirt sophomores before they start seeing significant time at major programs. There are plenty of exceptions, obviously. What people sometimes neglect to think about is that being a leader is like being a quarterback, a coach, a teacher, a marine, a X, a Y, a Z––you get better at it as you go along. You get better at it as you get comfortable with it.

    Exactly!

It still amazes that people don't get this!

  11. For the last two weeks (or more) its been pretty doubtful he'll be joining us this fall. I think the class he took last summer which was recommended by his HS advisor actually fell outside the list of approved classes (or so I'm told) that would help improve his grades in his core GPA. Sounds like he's going to fall just short because his academic advisor is a moron. They're still trying to get the class approved by submitting the class syllabus and curriculum but its a long shot.

Okay, this falls a bit outside my knowledge but if the poster above is correct and the high school is accredited and if the curriculum is state approved and either an elective that falls in a core subject then there CANT be a problem with that part of it. So it might be, like Da said, a class that was outside of the approved list the problem is, I have never seen that list, the NCAA doesnt give you a list of classes it gives you a list of rules. So that could be the issue.

To the question about taking to many summer classes? Some states differ on that, I know, but as far as the NCAA, not that I know of BUT it could red flag a kid, sometimes it looks a bit odd.

  12. The problem I have with what Michigan is doing is that they seem to be taking a system and forcing it on the players instead of taking the players and creating a system to fit them.

It is not that Robinson cant be a WCO QB, its that you are now taking away his amazingness. Now, can you still run him, sure, but to take out his nastiness just doesnt make sense.

It would be like running QB draws at the start of the year with T-mart and then just stopping it (Oh wait, Wats did that)

  13. Have any of you purchased a home recently? I have been looking at tons of short sale homes, bank ownded and HUD properties. I know how the process works for all of them, my agent is great and loves low-ball offers on homes like this, but I was just wondering if any of you had a story.

I have a bid in on a HUD home now, the bidding time expires in about 4 days.

  14. HAHA!

Usually its really not an issue at all, so it tends to take something big to cause problems. Hurricane Katrina displaced tons of kids and thousands of schools records were either ruined (you would be shocked how many at that time were still done on paper) or never made it to the new schools.

So if it is something like that I can see how and why there would be so many hold ups but in this case, its probably just some weird class.

I would use my will power for something like, winning the lottery or maybe winning the lottery twice! That way I could be like one of those guys that spends all the money really fasy and is broke, but then I just win it again!

  15. Just speaking from a teaching/education standpoint, there is nothing the NCAA can do IF any class was taken at an accredited school, Junior College or online institution.

Now, if it was not one of those, then there is a gray area.

I was told where Jackson took the courses they are accredited.

That is a good sign then.

When you say "there's nothing the NCAA can do" what do you mean? There's an obstacle here that I can not disclose unless the family allows me however I feel you might know something that might speed things up.

No problem, if a student attends an accredited high school, JC or takes classes online from an accredited high school (there are not to many but some high schools work with students) or JC, then the NCAA has no way to hold things up. The NCAA works WITH accredited schools, not against them. The NCAA has issues with what has been coined "Diploma mills".

These are the things that you would check into.

    1. Is the school accredited (you said it was, so thats good)

    2. Was the class taken at his high school (classes taken outside the students school will get a red flag OR be very very delayed in getting reported to the new school or NCAA, this is totally common)

    3. Was the class taken in an area that was required (The NCAA has some new rules about core classes)

    4. Was the class graded or was is pass/no pass (this can cause a hold up sometimes)

That is all I can think of right now, if it is nothing that falls under those things then I would have to know what it was to have an idea of what the issue is. The safest thing to do is talk to the principal or superintendent of the school and have them deal with the NCAA.
