  1. Its college football and I love fans smack talk, its fun! That being said, ISU will probably lose to NIU, that is a bad game for them to open with, NIU is pretty loaded, they play good football and this is the kind of game that is a big win for them. On the road vs a BCS team that in all honestly they have a chance to beat. There is a chance that the line might be around 10 in favor of ISU. Its going to be a close game.

  2. Rivals is in the best position becuase they get to rank kids AFTER they have started to get offers and give verbals. It is really easy to not have a kid ranked or evaluated and then "hear" that he has offers from PSU, FSU, USC, Bama and then go "oh he is a 4 star"

Again, Rivals is good and does a decent job but they are like Biff in Back to the Future. They have the sports atlas that gives all the scores so they can win all the bets.

  3. That sounds more then solid. That kid is going to Stanford (good for him) unless the sh#t hits the fan and he cant get in. In this case, with a school like that and all the chances it offers a kid, I hope he makes it in.

  4. Bogus. These kids need to get as far away from the blacklisted place as possible. I don't care if they have to play at the University of Juneau for crying out loud. ;)

That, of course, is a bit of a stretch. But I personally would not want to play in a school where I know for sure I cannot play in the postseason for two years. It's partially because I'm a midwest homer, yeah, but it would still suck. But I could see why these kids would want to stay closer to home and play for the local powers. I was really hoping the Suh-Portland connection would help with Brennan, and continue to hold out hope. Kid seems like a stud. Let's hope we can convince him to come for a gameday.

Realistically, the post-season ban won't even affect the 2011 recruiting class. 1 year will be the 2010 season which they won't see, the 2nd year will be the 2011 season which they'll either be redshirting for, or riding the bench for.

The only affect it will have on a recruit is if they think the 30 scholarships will impact the school enough to put them in a down period for the next 3-6 years (which I personally think it will to an extent, but they'll still win 9-10 games).

Now...had the NCAA actually done something sooner, like back in February when they held the hearings...this would have had a much bigger impact. Henderson wouldn't be there, probably half a dozen other kids would have jumped ship before signing day, and USC would have ACTUALLY been punished. This is just a slap on the wrist for a school whose 3 deep is better than 90% of the nations starters.

This is a really good post. Also, lets face it, most of us dont look that far into the future and most 17 year old kids are not going to look 4 or 5 or 6 years into the future either.

  5. With Nebraska heading to the Big 10 how does the Academics look compared to Stanford and UCLA???

I dont think it will ever sniff Stanford, the only school in the Big 10 that is close or on par in some respects os Northwestern.

  6. Committed to OU per Rivals mad.gif

    Wow!

OU has 3 Rivals 250 DT's in this class.

    #9 Marquis Anderson

    #11 Jordan Wade

    #12 Jordan Phillips

Wow...but let's see what they do with them.

I am sure they will do very well with them. Its not like OU is known for having players go there and suck.

  7. I know this sounds crazy, but I'm not crazy about Green. Every time I read something about him he sounds more and more like what I call a "rivals diva". When the rivals100 came out he was clearly upset that he was not a 5*, something that wouldn't upset a "humble" football player. Rivals rankings are for the fans, not the players. And now he's planning out what his nickname could be if he played with this brown kid? Pump the breaks slick.

I dont know about that, first let me say that coaching football for the last 10 years I dont care about Rivals rankings and honestly, I have never met one coach in high school that does. But, for the kid, it is a big sense of accomplishment or maybe even pride. So while there is a possibility that he was upset that he was not a 5*, it probably has more to do with the fact that it was a goal of his that he felt he did not reach. There is nothing wrong with having a goal and there is nothing wrong with having a goal, not reaching it and being upset about it.

I understand that rankings can be a goal, but I think the reason he's upset is because he's been having people telling him he's going to be a 5* since he was a sophomore. But I think a lot of players get caught up in the "fame" and start thinking that they're a big deal before they even set foot on campus. It happens lots of players. For chrissakes, Jimmy Clausen walked out of a limo to the press conference where he signed his LOI. Same kinda thing happened with Owa.

Look at the article on Rivals if you have a membership about "players react to rivals250." Our other guys like Moore and Turner said that they were honored by high rankings, but they don't mean anything if they don't perform. And don't get me wrong, I think Green is a monster, but I think he might be the kind of kid who could have trouble with a coaching staff like ours who isn't going to give out any handouts or preferential treatment.

Maybe you are right. I guess we will find out down the line.

  8. What is that like, as a student at OSU, when they have football games but the school year hasnt started yet? I mean, are the only students there the ones that live close by, have an apt or live in the frats? The dorms probably arent even open, are they?

  10. USC RB Dillon Baxter has told his compliance dept that five schools illegally contacted him June 10

USC's Director of Compliance said Florida is one of 5 schools to illegally contact Dillon Baxter

USC says Dillon Baxter was contacted illegally by Florida, Oregon, Washington, Alabama and Fresno

    LINK

I didn't think they had a Director of Compliance. That is why they are in the mess they are in.

They had two actually, but only one for most of the time. Most big time schools with "big time" stars will have more then that. Especially when you have open practices to the public. When they get a new AD someday, they will probably have 2 just for football and 1 just for basketball and then a 4th one for all other sports. Thats my guess

  11. I dont think its "illegal" to call a student that is in college.

It might be "kind of looked down upon" but assuming the coaches have had prior contact with the kid, which they all have I would assume, they could just say that they are calling him to ask him "how things are going after all the big news at USC"

Now, don't get me wrong, I am sure they want him to transfer to their programs but I have a feeling that is what they will say if they are questioned.

Per NCAA rules, coaches cannot contact with intent to recruit college Freshmen and Sophomores.

No, I know its a rule, what I mean is that its not against the law. I mean, the cops wont be arressting anyone. Its not an actual law, its something that the NCAA is against. Thats what I meant. I dont think anyone could get a ticket for this.

  13. Soooooo, if KU was in the same position, you are telling me they would turn down this offer? Get over it.

You seem to think this should be about being loyal, so then I would ask, why werent the jayhawks ever loyal to NU when they needed some help with votes? Hell, are you trying to tell me that Bill Self doesnt bring in "prop 48" guys on that basketball team? I know he does, I am an illini fan for basketball and guess what, he got his "prop 48ers" in there somehow.

You are mad because you are going to end up playing in some weird conference, tough break. Bill Self is going to leave KU within the next few months or if you are lucky after this basketball season. He is pissed about this and will be taking off to coach Texas (if Rick Barnes doesnt get his act together) or Arizona, where they are dying for a guy like Self.

So in the end, you lost your conference because you never bothered to help NU and now you will lose your basketball coach because he is pissed.

You can read my whole thoughts on the matter here.... http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/43927-big-12-breakup-sucks-rocks/

I don't know where your venom comes from. If we don't agree with Nebraska on every issue than this is our fault? You sound like Hugo Chavez.

Anyway, I am not calling Husker fans anything. I said those fans who were gloating were not being very Nebraska-like. I stand by that comment. Sorry for having high expectations of Husker fans. I have them because most Nebraska fans give me a reason to. You can get the rest of my thoughts and pre-responses in the link...

    ok

  14. I Don't think any of us have a problem with hating Iowa

Sooo, I guess we can't just play football without "hating" someone??? Nope, the "classiest fans in college football" have to HATE.... THAT sucks.. sorry.

Wow, get over yourself. Its not real hate. Its kind of like when we say "I hope we kill team A" guess what, we dont really want to kill them.

  15. Soooooo, if KU was in the same position, you are telling me they would turn down this offer? Get over it.

  16. The tailgating in Lincoln is average at best, that might be putting it nicely. Last year for the OU game it was the best I have ever seen, EVER, at NU and that was still just okay. If you are in champions parking lot its better, if you are under the underpass its pretty good. But mostly, you will hit about 10 bars, drink outside at a few of them and then walk 10 minutes to the stadium.

  17. Heard he has 3 years to play 3 years which is huge. The kid was a big time target as a senior but lots of schools started to figure they couldnt sign him because of grades. It seems like right now he might be just a touch under the radar as most JC guys are or seem to be. On 1620 Crabtree said that he has not really been evaluated yet.

  18. He made his list by looking at commits to Texas LSU Alabama Florida USC ND and called it a day I'm not saying the 100 are not good but give me a break. :LOLtartar

There is a lot of truth to this. Thats the thing, these raters get to go back over and over and over and rerank. Coaches have to do it right the first time for the most part. A long time ago, Tracey McGrady (basketball) went from unranked to #1, how???? Think about that??

If you dont think who offers a kid has anything to do with ranking you are crazy. There is a reason that the teams that finish in the top 15 in recruiting rankings win NC's, its because rivals gets to rerank over and over!!! Hell, think how many offers are already out to kids that have yet to be ranked. Yet, somehow there are still people that freak out when our coaches (experts) offer a kid who doesnt have a lot of offers or doesnt have a lot of Rivals pub, because people think Rivals are the experts.

Rivals has the luxoury of waiting, seeing facts, then predicting. It would be like me telling you that "Guess what, Last night Dwight Howard will play a great game"
