  1. 2-3 mil doesn't go very far if you blow a knee or need tommy john. Not to mention living expenses in some baseball cities. If someone else is willing to pay for your education you let them. He should take a lesson from guys like Suh & Amukamara. Both could have been first rounders as juniors but elected to finish school. Get the education, and let whatever happens in sports happen. It's a pretty good life when a Bachelor's Degree is your backup plan.

Suh and Prince only had one year to go, really just one semester I think.

2-3 million will get a bachelors degree at most all schools. If he breaks his leg in baseball then we can bring his money and get a college degree.

    Totally agree!

Look, while you are playing, even minor league ball, you get a stipend each day for food. So you dont have to worry about meals or places to stay since he could probably just shack up with a few guys on the team.

I guess I dont understand the odd pattern of thoughts, college is not going anywhere. Heck, he could take classes online WHILE playing baseball, I worked full time teaching/coaching and finished up my Masters online, taking 3 or 4 classes at a time. I am sure he could do the same thing with a Bachelors.

  3. Speaking as a teacher, take the money now. You can always go back to college if things dont work out but you cant always make 5 million dollars for signing your name on a paper.

Take 1 million of the bonus put it into a 3 month CD, roll it over ever 3 months while you are playing (and still getting your pay, remember we are just talkin about the bonus) then in 3-5 years if baseball doesnt work you still have that CD around with lots of cash. Not to mention the rest of your signing bonus (after taxes and agent fees) assuming you didnt spend it all.

    Then, go to college.

yes, this is what he should do.

Makes no sense to put more than 250k into a CD since FDIC will only insure that amount in case of bank failure, and the bank will not pay you jack sh#t for interest in the interim. CD's make no sense to invest in because they will pay you much less than stated inflation, and next to nothing compared to actual inflation when you take into account the Fed's money printing operation.

Well I would not be to worried about the FDIC, I don't think the bank will get robbed and if it goes under there are bigger issues! ha ha

But yeah the CD might be a bad idea but I really don't know much about investments so I was just giving an example. I figured a short term CD could get about 3%???

try 1 1/2%.....there are much better places to put that kind of money to work, which are unavailable to the average petty investor.

Yeah, I know that people with real money get better rates, I think that my point might have been missed, I was basically just saying there are easy ways to make that money last.

  6. Highest regarded high school receiver prospect for us since...?

Niles Paul was a big prospect, wasnt he?

Its funny, the lame posters over on HI (Jaw of course) is freaking out about how bad recruiting it and how the coaches still dont know what they are doing and blah blah blah.

  7. I grew up right by his school. Its tiny, maybe class 4A out of 8 classes. They dont really play the "cream of the crop" in the state. Not saying he isnt good, just saying that might impact his "stars" but I have no idea.

His team won the state championship in 5A last year. As you said IL has 8 classes. He plays in a private school conference so there is probably some good talent but its probably not as "ethnically diverse" as some of the other chicagoland conferences. I'd say 3 star is about right.

You hit the nail on the head. Now, the private school in Chitown (Mt. Carmel for one) get some super stars, but the cream of the crop tend to be the 8A class kids, Downers Grove, Naperville (this place is usually loaded with players since they have about 5 high schools all with over 2,500 kids in a small area), Bolingbrook, Aurora, East St. Louis.

Montini was down for a long time, and recently has had some major sucesess, due impart to kids like Jordan. I have no doubt that he will be very good though.

  8. This time of the year, the prices are always so high. People want to get the tickets now so that they can make their plans for the game.

If you want to know a little trick, go to some bars in Omaha, older ones. Ask if they have tickets for sale, TONS of regulars ask the owners to hold their tickets and sell them to other bar patrons for them.

Thats a good idea, but really how many people are willing to sell their tickets to the tOSU game for less than a ridiculous amount. Last year, I found a pretty good deal on Texas tickets before the season started, considering the hype and everything for that game.

Chances are slim to get a good deal on them, thats for sure. The thing with checking into bars is that they give them to bar owner the week of the game, usually around wednesday or Thursday. So you can usuually get them cheaper. Some UT for face value last year.

But, most of the time you will still have to pay more.

  10. Enhance, no problem!

I did hear that he had to "throw away" 66 passes this last season because no one was open, that is a HUGE chunk that would kill his %, if that is true or not I dont know but it would really change thigns. I am sure you could argue that he threw them away because he has bad pocket presence but who knows.

He did play the wing-T but he was not brought to Washington to play that, at least I dont think he was. Wasnt Ty Willingham the coach when Locker got there or was it Neuhisal? Either way, neither of those guys run anything like the high school wing T.

On a side note, coaching against the wing T is SUPER ANNOYING!

  11. I totally disgree. Locker played with basically the worst players in the Pac-10 if not the worst players in all of the BCS conferences for most of his time at UW.

The reason NU made him look so bad is because Pelini is that good and the players that NU has are really good and the players that UW has are terrible.

Locker, while I don't predict will be some hall of famer, will probably end up starting 100 career games, assuming he stays heatlhy.

He will be playing in a league that protects QB's at all costs, he has a pretty good Oline already and a good RB.

I am not saying he wins 12 games each year, I just think he will start a lot of games.

Now with that being said, had he not been so in love with his home state he might have went to USC, he might have won a Heisman and had crazy stats and ended up like Leinhart. So who knows, maybe he will be a bust.

Come to think of it, I guess I dont totally disagree at all, I just think he could be good. This really turned into one of the worst posts EVER. I should be banned for a day or two!

  12. So there seems to be a HUGE divide on if T-Mart should start of not, I think he should and I think he will be a very good QB. Now, with that being said I have been wrong lots of times about lots of different things. But, its just my feeling. So, what are your guys predictions for him this season?

    I think he passes for 2,300 yards 15 TD's and 9 Ints

I think he rushes for 600 yards and 12 TD's

I also think that he completes over 60% of his passes, I really think you will see a ton of flare outs and swing passes to the RB's. I think you will see te RB's with a combinded total of 75 catches.

  13. Well, look at the timing. Say Jim gets canned, when would that happen? Maybe around June or July? Now that means interm coach for the year )probably) and nothing to even consider about until the end of this season.

It would be much easier for OSU to talk to Meyer that entire time then Bo.

  14. It is ABC/ESPN night game, unless of course both teams or one falls flat, like NU/UT last year.

Yeah, better not be any of that nascar crap pushing this game to 2:30. This game is easily one of the top 5 CFB games next season.

    God, I forgot about that!
