  1. I don't see why he's doing this now. Wait until you get that fat NFL paycheck and then drive drunk all you want...up until that point, keep it vanilla.

Foolish exaggerations don't make your point, they make you look foolish.

    Just sayin'.

Not to most people, its clear he is joking, it is basically satire. We have talked about this before, I am not sure why you either do not see humor in it or realize that it is humor. Either way, you should still get it.

Now what looks foolish is your post about it, because everyone that read it probably rolled their eyes.

  2. I know there is a love watson and hate waston divide right now, but I am starting to think that its not so much that the scheme is bad, you can win with any scheme if its used well (personally I like what the Ducks, UF and WVU run) but it seems like the other coaches in the league took about one year to figure Watson out.

I know he called plays at CU but perhaps there was more influence from Barnett of what to call and if you really look at the numbers the stats were never great.

I think what we might be seeing now is defensive coaches in the league who have looked at game film of Watsons NU offense for a year and now they are simply shutting it down.

It could be that those coaches have adjusted and that Watson has not.

  3. I don't see how being a 4 star in Illinois would make him a 5 star in states with much better all around talent, but he definitely looks good. He's one of those guys that you just look and say "that dude looks mean." I hope we land him.

Well, I think there is a bit of a bias when it comes to rankings for kids that are from certain states. I could very well be wrong but lots of times it seems like the state the kid is from or who just offered them will affect the stars.

  4. If this kids grades are good then he will be the very best player in the NU class if he decides to play at NU. I would go as far as to say that he would be the very best player in almost any class in the nation.

What makes you say that? He looks good . . . but what makes you think he is THAT good? (I think rivals has him as a 4 star and the 17th best safety. . . and his measurables are decent.)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, the area he plays in simply plays some of the best football in the state of Illinois. The conferences that he is in and around are flat out tough. High School football in Illinois is for real, I have a feeling that if this kid was in Cali, Texas or Florida he would be a 5 star guy. The school he goes to is/was terrible but the schools they play are very good and spend a ton of time with football. Many stars in IL have a hard time academically and end up at JCs and then go D1, that is why for a very long time College of Dupage, a JC, was basically the best JC in the nation each year.

This is a kid that could end up being a 3 year starter at almost any school he goes to.

  5. This is the type of kid that HAS to see the field early and often, if this offense makes things to freaking complex so that this kid doesnt play for 3 years then this offense is doing a poor job at helping NU win games.

This is a Noel Devine type player, which means he needs to be catching screens, returning punts, kicks and getting the rock on handoffs. They need to find him 10 touches a game.

  6. Its funny, I have seen lots of threads and read lots of posts about how NU should be running a unique type offnese so that it would be harder for other teams to prepare and becuase recruiting would become simple.

Well guess what, NU currently does that, look at the top 10, hell look at the top 25, outside of USC does any top 25 team run the WCO?

Some people might try to say "bama, but they are just a power running team.

    God, I hate the WCO!!!!!!!!

It just doesnt work well in college, to many plays, to much to learn, to much emphasis on EVERYTHING but being athletic and making plays.

USC's WCO isn't as complicated, they have a true freshman QB, a true freshman WR that gets playing time. NU isn't running their offense. NU doesn't have the WRs for it to work or the big time blue chip 4-5 star pro-style QBs. NU should be running a run/gun with true reads and options along with some power-I.

I totally agree and also, thank you for responding to my thread. Good lord people, almost 100 views and only one response!!

  7. Dude, the old "would you bet your house on it" is the worst line ever. Come on, its a bet/gamble, so there is always a chance that something freaky could happen, so yeah, most people arent betting their house on it. Like with USC and Stanford a few years back, weird things can always happen.

Secondly, you mention that parents migth not want their kid to play for a coach that "acts like Bo" really? Come on, Bob Knight got great college players, Coach K, who rides refs more then anyone gets great players all the time. Stoops is a total jerk to refs and reporters. Parents want their kids to be happy and if their kid is happy with Bo, they will want them to play there. They want their kids to learn to be accountable and to become a man or an adult, they dont want to hear about taking an easy way out, or getting into trouble or cheating.

Are their parents that wouldnt want Pelini for their kid, of course there is, but 99% of the time parents dont say "I dont want you to play football and go to college for free because of coach X"

By the time you are 18 most parents are letting the kid make the choice.

  8. Its funny, I have seen lots of threads and read lots of posts about how NU should be running a unique type offnese so that it would be harder for other teams to prepare and becuase recruiting would become simple.

  9. check out this quote from Mike Leach "There's two ways to make it more complex for the defense," Leach told journalist Michael Lewis, writing for The New York Times Magazine. "One is to have a whole bunch of different plays, but that's no good because then the offense experiences as much complexity as the defense. Another is a small number of plays run out of lots of different formations. That way, you don't have to teach a guy a new thing to do. You just have to teach him new places to stand."

It makes a ton of sense, the first guy I coached for who I still believe is the very best coach in the state of NE said something similar to me 10 year ago. You dont need a lot of plays, you can just formation defenses to death running a lot of the same things from different looks.

  10. I'd be willing to bet UCLA, Tennessee, Washington, etc. all have pretty decent recruiting classes even though they've been horrible. I don't buy into the concept that recruits only go to the top ranked teams.

UCLA and Tenessee are all about location. Tennessee especially, its not totally south and its not totally midwest and its not totally north, so they get a good pull of kids from all over.

Washington is an odd one, they tend to pull pretty good classes, I think people underestimate the location to Northern Cali and then of course they seem to have a great connection with samoan players.

  11. I think these are the things that really hurt recruiting.

    1. Having a boring time on your trip.

    2. NOT seeing fans at the game, empty seats

    3. Having lame coaches that bore the kids.

Thats really about it, by the time the kid sets up a visit they already know if they are interested in the offense or defense that the team runs. They just want to see if they fit in with the players, if they make some friends, if they have some fun and if they can see themselves being with those coaches for the next 4 years or so, 30 hours per week.

  12. And by your best friend, you mean...you. Keep hating - it makes it all the better when we win.

    Sincerely,

    The loss against Texas Tech.

Hey, are you a TT fan? Or are you a bigredboard poster or just a BCer? I can't tell.

If you are a TT fan, thats cool, you should rip on NU fans right now, I know I would make fun of TT fans if NU had won. IF you are a bigredboard poster or a BCer well then, thats just funny.

  13. My wife's friends son was at the Texas Tech game being recruited. He told his mother the fans were booing the team. He had no interest in going to Nebraska and other comments I will not post. Not a good trip for him or Nebraska to say the least.

I'll just get it out of the way. "We don't need him then." :sarcasm

Tell him good luck trying to find any freaking fanbase in the world that doesnt boo at a game. If the kid plays high school football, he has heard the boos many many many times. Tell him that he better wake up from his dream world. If he wants to go to a place where he wont hear boos, then point him to a non D1 school, where there are no fans and no one cares.
