  1. Curt Freaking Dukes. That kid might have been one of the first ultra-hyped recruits when recruiting was just getting big. He lived in the weight room, benched 400 pounds, straight A student, crazy QB stats and built to run the Husker offense.

That was around, what, 2001? I think he even came in early to NU.

  2. i dont thinks its really all that close. hell gabbert is the only player they have left!!! they will likely be worse than they were last season and they lost to fricken NAVY.....and it wasnt close.

count me in as not worried...

Sometimes I think you are the most uninformed poster on this board. Quick to poke your nose in, but you never know what you are talking about. God I hope you are just trying to be smart, please tell me this is not serious. FWI B, Mu had the youngest 2 deep roster in college football last year. They return nearly everybody. Last years team was extremely young. Just because 2 of the 3 players you happen to know graduated, doesn’t mean there is nobody left.

    Melscott,

There has been talk about changing some of the things in the system, specifically the running game and using H-backs and two back sets. I hope its true, but I will hold back any excitement until I see it on the field.

Returning players is great, but returning players that are average at best is not always a great thing, last year the Illini returned lots "great" players on offense and look what happend. I am worried about mizzo but I am worried about every big 12 team, NU is not at the level where they are just going to blow teams out. I think that some of us Husker fans are getting ahead of themselves.

NU returns pretty much everyone on offense, so using your theory the NU offense should be freaking amazing but lets face it, they will probably be average at best.

  3. Wow, Wow Wow, did someone really say they dont beleive in bad play calls?

In middle school, maybe but in college well its the play callers job to try and be one step ahead of the defense, so yes, there are bad play calls, lots of them.

This is a good thread, its funny, its fun and its great to poke fun at BC.

  4. It was the BCers and BRBers that said he couldnt recruit. It appears they have no legs left to stand on.

I hate the "BCers" label. I know a few members here who despise all things BC . . . but still were concerned about Bo's recruiting.

I would hate the BCers label too if it was on me. Having a concern about someone being bad at something before you have any reason to be concerned is just insane.

Look, if you drive home from work and get home safe and sound, do you concern yourself about it? Nope. But if you drive home and get in a car accident then you concern yourself about and think what you could have done differently, right?

Well, Bo gave no one any reason at all to think that him and his staff would not recruit well, so why be "concerned" as you say. 99% of the people "concerned" were BCers, plain and simple. Now, you might be in the 1% but it still seems odd that you would be concerned BEFORE you were shown what Bo and his staff could do.

  5. Yes, but I will just be getting out of class at which point I will go streaking from Ferguson to Schramm if he is N

Man, that brings back memories, only I was streaking back to the Beta house to eat and usually start drinking, assuming it was Friday of course.

  6. If he commits to WKU, all signs point to NU not recruiting him anymore, solely because he won't qualify academically. So instead of having him commit and never get here, we might be able to snag a late O Lineman. As of now, there is no indication that he would pick WKU, other than that reason.

Carnes academic situation is not an issue for the coaches, at all.

Reason being we had Fajardo lined up and ready to commit the second an offer was made. And yes, Watson would have given his left testicle to get Fajardo as he was in love with the kid. But we called off that visit due to conversations we had with Carnes.

If Carnes goes elsewhere, it is solely because he wanted to go there. But I'm pretty sure he will be pushed rather hard the next few days, so we'll see what happens. :)

But if we lose Carnes, it's simply because he wanted to go there and the WKU coaches knew exactly how to work him. Nothing else.

Well if that's true we now know where the split was and I wouldn't blame Carnes for not choosing to come to Nebraska when the Head Offensive cordinator is voteing for another recruit.

Though the rumor was Godfrey not Fajardo so that would make Carnes, Watsons third choice if any of this is true. <_<

even if it were true that carnes wasn't watson's first choice of the remaining targets (and that's a mighty big if), how on earth would carnes know? in any case, it's pretty clear that carnes is the one we wanted most, and i would be awfully surprised if bo overruled watson on which one to go after.

Well if Willie is to be believed that is what he is stating happened.

    He is going to WKU.

  7. I am really good friends with the starks, he pretty much said from the start of SP's short lived AD position that SP was not a great guy, rude, short, mean, backstabbing. I have heard some stories that would make you go, WTF>

  8. I think that like Crabtree said, in the end most kids, when they are up in the air about a school, tend to stay closer to home. I think that is a fair statement and I think that it would apply in this situation as well. If he is having this hard of a time just giving a verbal to a school that is far away, which we all know means very little since you can still change your mind, then I think in the end a school close to home will win out. Not trying to be a debbie downer but I am just trying to put myself in his shoes and take the "fandome" out of the equation.

If you had all things equal and were not a fan of any school for the most part, wouldnt you pick the school that was nearest to you, assuming that it had the things you wanted?

  9. the longer he takes the worse for us. i said if this isn't decided by Monday, our chances dip immensely. after thursday i thought 99% N. now that this report on HI came out.. i'm down to 50%

This is almost always true with out of state kids, the longer it takes the more likely they are to stay at home or closer to home.

  10. Don't forget to add in the Bowl Game. As funny as it sounds, NU's shot with Brion may come down to just how smooth his trip up to NE goes. He has never flown before and flying into Lincoln isn't the best trip. Need a good overall weekend in all aspects. How is the weather out there right now?

This is exaclty right, the trip, the actual trip is what will make or break it for him. Bad flight, delays, lots of snow or ice and its over. When you already like something else a lot (USF) it dosent take much to convince yourself that everything else is bad.

  11. To be honest the more I hear on Owa the more I like our chances.

Honestly, the more the corey cooper decision drags on, I get the opposite feeling. The kid just feels like he will not end up N. One would think if he really wanted to be a part of the special thing we have going here, he would've made up his mind by now. I'd rather have a kid have NU be his "dream school" as opposed to his "best option."

I know what you mean but if you were just waiting for kids who felt NU was their dream school then the NU would be hurting!

  12. See, Carnes seems to have done it the right way, he bought into the school not just the coach. That is what recruits need to remember, coaches come and go.

On a side note, I hope the staff shows Owa and his family the video of Suh accepting the Outland Trophy, that was a great speech!

  13. Well, I think he lived in Iowa for a year, so mabye if he does get a scholly it wont piss off the BCers to much since he has not lived in Nebraska for his entire life. Lord knows this staff doesnt know what they are doing and the message board BCers do.

I think the board would be better for us all if the "BCers" talk would stop. It's divisive and unnecessary. We're all happy Bo is here, and I think we're happy with the direction the program is heading. Classifying everyone who questions a scholarship offer (Cotton, maybe Marsh?) as "BCers" is immature and probably unfair to the posters who may have legitimate complaints about recruits. We're fans. What should we do in the off season besides question coaching/recruiting decisions? Perhaps we should all sing Kum Bah Yah and rejoice about how perfect our coaches are.

There is a HUGE difference between ripping a 17 or 18 year old kid and the coaching staff simply becuase there are not enough stars next to a name and actually questioning an idea.

Example of a question: "Recruit XYZ hurt his knee this season and I know the staff is still very interested in him, I just hope that XYZ's knee heals up quickly, I would hate to see something happend like what went on with Chris Williams, where the recovery just took a toll on the kid and it didnt pan out, what do you guys think, should the staff still be after XYZ?"

Example of ripping: "Why is this Nebraska kid getting a scholly, what a waste, this is so stupid, make him walk on and earn it, Rivals has him as a two star with no other offers, this is a huge mistake, god I bet TO is behind this just to try and unify the fan base, this kid will never be more then a special teamer"

Dont you think there is a difference? Questioning is one thing, ripping is another and lets face it, if Marsh gets an offer the ripping will begin. You know it will, as all the fake coaches come out of the woodwork.

Similarly, there is a difference between arguing what a given recruit offers to the program (when he is slighted by posters) and attacking posters as being supporters of Bill Callahan. Don't you think there is a difference?

I am not 100% sure what you are asking. I am not trying to be a jerk I just dont think I know what you are asking.

You're suggesting that people shouldn't just arbitrarily rip on recruits because of their stars, or their parents, or whatever. I'm comparing that to you lumping those same posters together as supporters of Bill Callahan. Both seem wrong to me. Sorry for not not making that clearer.

Ok, i know what you mean now. To me, the difference is that the coaches are "experts" in evaluating the talent, or at the very least are much better at it then we are, so it would seem to make sense to trust their judgement on who they recruit. So what I am saying is that if the coaches see it as a good idea to offer a certain kid a scholly, then I trust them because of their track record. I feel they are more qualified then most of us, so ripping them doesnt seem to make sense.
