Nope...
But then again I don't get uncomfortable about most things. Except for those companies that put the tags of shirts on the inside of the shirt near your hip.

I love that Tosh chimed in! His show and stand up are both great.

Years ago, me and some college friends had a dog. The dog got out and a few days later we called the Humane Society...they said a dog matching the description was there and we could come and pick up our dog, Wallace.
We got there and it turns out the dog had been hit by a car and was dead and frozen.
They never told us on the phone the Dog was dead...but it didn't change the fact that it was.

DuBose was good and bad. But he was coaching with a big reduction is scholarships from Stallings' tenure. Plus Bama found out he was sleeping with his secretary.
Franchione was a good hire but then bolted for A&M. Bama offered him a 10 year contract. He left due to scholarship reductions from DuBose's tenure.
Mike Price-Hookers and blow
Mike Shula was an emergency hire due to Price getting the boot. Not that he was great but he wasn't ready. He was a QB coach when he got hired.
And Fran sort of ended up flaming out at AM, didn't he?
DuBose had a few good years at Bama.

And before Saban went back Alabama wasn't doing very well as a program. He was hired in 2007
2003: 4-9
2004: 6-6
2005: 10-2 (vacated 10 wins according to Wikipedia)
2006: 6-7 (Appears wins were vacated as well here)
Their last national championship had been in 1992 until they won it again in 2009.
It appears to me that Kelly did more with less than Saban with those recruiting rankings. If we pulled in a Top 15 class here on a regular basis, we're basically in Indy every year with the right coach.
Yep!
Bama just hired lame coaches...Shula? DuBose? Good lord they hired Mike Price for 10 minutes...They were just a mess for a decade or so because they kept hiring crap.

Alabama was nearly dead in the water when Saban showed up. He built it to that level - it didn't start like that.
They weren't dead in the water...they had hired lame ass coaches. He didn't need to build he only needed to pull the cord hard enough to get the engine going again.

Their paths look similar - their approaches do not. Especially in regards to recruiting rankings.
Saban:
#3
#3
#4
#1
#1
#1
#1
#1
#1
#1
Kelly:
#30
#12
#12
#14
In regards to where they were/are both coaching at...that is basically the same ranking.
If Chip is at NU and pulls in 4 top 15 classes in a row...watch out.

I emphatically disagree.
I don't care who you are, you have to take recruiting serious and be committed to it. Even Urban and Nick know how important it is and work hard at it.I meant this.
Coach Nobody: Hi, I am coach nobody and I would like to recruit you to Nobody U
Coach Kelly: Hi, I am Chip Kelly, here is what my offense looks like
His name, his offense, it gets him in the door of every QB (non-statue) in America, every RB (non huge powerback) in America and every WR in America. Doesn't mean he will close but the groundwork is done. The hard part of recruiting, which is being a known quantity or coach...that is done for him.

From what I’ve heard he would fit right in with the culture that was around with some past coaches. He liked the younger ladies while in Eugene.
Ha...Good for him...especially if they liked him back.

You are only doomed from the start if you are a crappy hire and then proceed to be crappy at your coaching gig.
If BC came out in his first season and went 10-2...people would have been happy.
If Riley came out in his FIRST GAME and managed to beat a team that lost its best player during the game...it could have helped.

I agree. Honestly, Chip Kelly would be a larger home run hire than Frost.
For sure!
First off they would dominate the division next year. Secondly, he doesn't like recruiting (I think that is overblown) but I also think he is about the point where he doesn't need to recruit like some brand new guy. His name and offense is the recruiting.

Do we honestly believe Chip Kelly would come to Nebraska?
No clue but that would be about as big of a hire as a school could get. I think sometimes people forget just how freaking good he was/is.
Some people cry about him not fitting the culture but you know what fits every culture? Winning.

yeah....because all of those people's lives are just peachy when you're failing at your job. Fans are idiots. It's taken out on kids at school. It's taken out on spouses....etc.
yes...you are cashing in a big pay day. But, unfortunately, the families of the people involved in Lincoln right now is not pleasant.
Sure, I agree...that is why I want the biggest lotto ticket I can get. Because we all know how it ends...for 99% of coaches it ends with them getting axed and s#!t going bad. Might as well get the big check.

You wouldn't be concerned about getting fired personally, but you do have a family to worry about and a staff and players that are all greatly affected if you fail.
But the family is set for life (assuming you get that sweet deal). The players are only there for 4 years as it is (5 tops), and the staff, well those guys are all in it for the same reason, to be a HC some day and get paid.
I don't mean I would try and do a bad job once I signed the lotto ticket, I mean that the most important thing is the biggest lotto ticket you can find.
-
Maybe it is just me but if I am in the shoes of a soon to be HC I am not worried about getting fired, not at all. Why would you be, you are getting paid no matter what. So with that said, all I am looking for is the best deal for me. Because it is (probably) a one time lotto ticket and I want the best/biggest lotto ticket I can get.

Something that has been on my mind recently.
During the end of both the Callahan and Bo tenures, there were various large donors making statements in the press.
These people have been very very quiet during this. I find that very interesting. Typically, that would tell me they know what is going on and are OK with what is happening behind the scenes.
Hmmm, That is interesting. It makes sense too, if they are okay with what is going on they wouldn't be yapping to the press.
With that said, are any of the big donors "Riley guys"? I don't know.

You pay him millions of dollars to GO AWAY!!! Who cares about the money, and how it's spent. Yes, he's well-liked and a nice and classy guy, but if you kept him around the athletic program, it would hurt the next coach. You would have players that were brought to the University to Riley, and who probably think that Riley should still be their coach, and if Riley is kept around they may want to be loyal to their coach.
The University needs to move on from Riley. It's been a failed 3-year experiment, and MOVE ON!!!
Maybe he could work in Old Father Hall or be an RA?

I think some posters are going into labor

Sadly, the person Riley needs to replace is himself. This is his offense it is the same offense he has run for 30 years. I can't stress this enough, when there is no QB run game at all...it makes the life of the opposing DC so easy.

I don't think that is the attitude he should have. It's not about being better than Riley it's about getting a guy we think can build us back up into CC contenders yearly. If not we will be repeating this same process 4 years down the road. If we can't land Frost or one of the other top 10 canidates, holding off may not be a bad idea. Replacing Riley with a marginally better coach would be more damaging then giving Riley one more year imo. In any event, firing Riley is a good move if there is a solid replacement lined up. If there isn't, I wouldn't fire him.
I get that but I look at is as this...if you can get better...you get better.
-
I don't think it is even so much about Frost. If you are the AD you sit down and ask yourself "Can I find a coach that I think is better than Riley" after you think about it for .0001 seconds you nod your head "yes, I can"
I am trying to think of a current head coach (at a power 5 school) that I would say is worse than Riley and honestly, the list is short.
That dude from KU
The Rutgers coach?
Maybe Fedora?
Lovie Smith?
I mean...it is a short freaking list.

Lost me there. Damon Benning lives in his own quite twisted version of reality.
Benning is full of himself but he is also one of the most connected media guys in the area...I have no idea how far that reach goes though.

Wow.
Yikes...
I would say that maybe the Big Ten is a lot tougher than the Pac-12 but it seems like Riley is basically having the same "luck" in that conference as he is in this one.
Is he going to finish his career at NU with an under .500 overall record?
