Riley may be a bad coach.  He may make poor game decisions.  But....I fail to see how he has been toxic.  We've seen toxic coaches.....before.

I know what you are saying...but toxic doesn't have to mean "bo-like"

Toxic can mean having a culture of being okay with being average...it can be even worse.  Now, I don't think that MR is toxic, yet, but if he keeps underdelivering and if the fans and administration are "okay" with 7 and 8 wins...that is toxic.

Bo actually created a toxic culture of the 9 wins...they (I think) really thought 9 wins was "good enough"

    Dang it!!!!  NOOOOOOOO

  2. 3 years ago:  Any monkey could win 9 games at NU...9 wins are pretty much built into the schedule!

Current times:  The Big Ten is a meat grinder, winning 8 games is tough enough, if Riley gets to 7 wins I say he should get another year...maybe even 6-6

That, and if Riley does anything close to serviceable this season (read: 7-5/8-4) before bowl season, they'll probably keep the staff on one year longer to throw to the proverbial wolves of our 2018 season. It's not a schedule conducive towards success for a new head coach and staff.

Then if we go 6-6/5-7 next year, then we'll see Riley get the boot and a replacement come in.

This is just how my brain works but if I am the new AD I think to myself...

I am going to give Riley one more year...if he does great, I look like a stud...if he does bad, well he wasn't my hire!  So I can him, hire a new guy and I get 3-4 more years of my sweet salary.

I'm not sure 9-9 is completely out of the realm of possibility.  Penn St, Ohio St, Rutgers & Illinois are all winnable road games.  Not saying they will win any of them, but all four of those teams are projected to be pretty bad this year.  If they can win a couple of those and pull a couple minor upsets at home they could finish in the .500 range in conference.

I agree...I do think this will be the best PSU team that Chambers has ever had but still.

Rutgers is a year away from being average

    OSU is hurting

Illinois is going to be playing about 65 freshmen

Indiana is going to be a bit of a mess this year

MSU is loaded and will probably only lose 3 conference games

    Purdue will be okay

    Minny is loaded

MD is sort of loaded but not really, tough one to figure out this season.

    NW could be solid again

Michigan is Michigan, they have such a great system and their coach is a top 20 coach in the country

    Iowa will be pretty good

The frustrating thing about it is that I'll bet Riley & staff coach the game of their lives and we somehow beat Penn State or Ohio State.

We beat Illinois, Minnesota and Northwestern.  Lose to Wisconsin, Purdue and Iowa.

That has always been the frustrating  thing about him...win a game you shouldn't and lose a bunch you shouldn't.

I couldnt watch the game yesterday, so I recorded it and watched it today. I really wanted to know what was going on with this team. I tried to get updates via the board, sorry you guys are all wound up game day. I mean that with respect. :).  I watched a couple series and quickly realized two things. Pad level. We are, what my dad used to say "titty fightin" Way way too high at the point of attack.  Secondly, too many missed tackles. I was baffled, so I continied to watch. Lee is rattled. Needs to be sat down and relax. The stage is too big for him right now. Also, he needs to maybe check out of plays when he sees LB's creeping up.

Like I said. I didnt see the game live. I am not bashing or being negative. I was completely confused watching the recording. If I am wrong, call me out. Defense played well. Had no idea we had another pick 6. He threw into triple coverage. Wow!

    GBR!

I guess the stage was too big for Lee at Tulane...cause he had the same stats

I could cut to the chase and settle this whole deal for you all but I'm not sure I could dumb down the explanation enough for you to understand due to your particular genders.

    I find this offensive...I think.

That still isn't what "mansplaining" is.

"Mansplaining" is not "when a guy tries to be helpful and the gal takes offense."

For one thing, it happens enough that I think most women just let it slide off of them. There isn't enough time to take offense every time.

For another, the purpose isn't that "a guy tries to be helpful." It's a guy lecturing a female on something he assumes she doesn't understand because she's female.

Lastly, the guy is acting like an ass if he assumes a woman doesn't understand something because she's a woman, but that doesn't mean he's an ass in general.

But your post and my response are a good example of why people shouldn't throw the word around. It can be used for what you're describing. It can also be used to try to shut a guy up or win an argument without arguing.

And before anyone chimes in, ya, I'm kinda lecturing above, but I'm not doing it because tfree32 is male. I'm doing it because of the words he typed that I'm responding to. In fact I don't know that he's male but it's probably a good assumption.

Mine too. I preferred that part. I'd prefer if this topic was split in 2.

I 100% love this!  When I talk down to anyone it is not because of anything other than the face they did something dumb.  Just like 99% of us.

    Thank you for this.  #NotAboutGender

I love that this thread has gone so many different ways, has still for the most part been respectful and people have kept an open mind.

Shoot, we could list the names of people that would be super lame to party with.
