  1. 10-3 is a good season under any standard.

But his new staff on the offensive side brought us our worst offensive production in 50 years. Our recruiting was so far down we needed a phone to reach it. Our depth at all positions was so low that we could never compete with a team of any talent. Speed could only be referred to in drug relationship, as Nebraska had turned into a herd of turtles. Training and conditioning, our hallmark, was seen by Finoti and Villawalldrop looking like they were nailed to ground in the Rose Bowl. Both had put on at least 40 pounds prior to the game. That indicates a lack of attention to detail by the staff.

I like Frank, but Frank was not dealt the wonder program that all think he was. There were many problems, no more Big 2 and the 6 dwarfs. Coaches that had grown tired but were promised to be kept. Laying all the blame on Frank is not fair, but to think Pederson did the wrong thing is just as bad. I do not like Mr. Pederson, but it is obvious he did the right thing.

This horse has died, been beaten to a pulp and propped back up at least 100 times.

The only answer that I need, is if Frank was the wonder coach and qualified to be at Nebraska, why did it take him a year to get a job at a lowly MAC conferenece cellar dwellar. Explain that and I will agree with you. No other major team or conference had any interest. They are hired to evaluate coaches and their potential. None moved and where Frank ended up was a last gasp. Tell me why and make me understand it. I like Frank and always have, but he was in over his head from day one.

  2. I believe we are if the staff is as good at coaching as they are recruiting. I think they are. But if they fail with this talent, the door will close very quickly on them and the recruits that are now considering us.

  3. Hoy,

I agree completely. But to have Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa State or any other team last year from the North playing for a conference championship is ridiculous. It hurts the credibility of the conference. Just a freak situation but lets say that Oklahoma had a break out of the flu on game day. Colorado wins. Would any one feel they were the best team in the conference? I think that happened to us against Texas the first conference championship game. Do it on the field. There was not a team in the North last year capable of finishing 4th in the South. I just do not see that changing. We are now the 6 dwarfs of the conference. Something needs to change, but I doubt it ever will.

  4. I could care less one way or the other, as long as other large conferences are the same.

If this coaching staff is not successful it will not make any difference anyway as the south will be so far ahead in talent no one in the North except possibly Colorado will ever be competitive with them. The south feels the North is no longer a true competitor. I tend to agree with that idea. The only reason we are looking at possilby being competitive is the fact that we have this staff and their recruiting ability. If they are not able to coach to the level they recruit in my opinion this program is done. Too much time lost and no real recruitng pull compared to the Texas schools and home state loyalty. Colorado on the other hand if their coaching staff is cleaned up has a tremendous recruiting draw, but it will take a few years for that to come back. I agree with them in the fact that a 6-5 playing for the conference championship is a joke. But most Nebraska fans were all for it last year. Do it on the field every week and you have no problems.

  5. We get back to winning and we will be on TV more. I saw most of the games last year it seems. I live in SoCal, of course I had to pay for them, but it is worth it to me to see any game I can.

It is not the all the fault of the Athletic Department. Sometimes you just can not get the deal worked out. Sometimes people back out at the last moment. You look for something to fill the void. I would prefer a better game no question. But we need to understand that games are not always under our control. I am very proud of the University to have scheduled USC. This is a major battle that will reap big dividends next year if we win or even play close. We can complain about the schedule this year, but next year we will have one of the toughest in the country if not the toughest. Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Kstate should be back, if Oklahoma wins the south and we win the north, that is four teams that could be ranked in the top 5 when we play them. You will get your share of tough games next year. Eat a cup cake and shut up!!!! Just kidding.

  6. I still think the defensive problems last year were the results of three different DC in three years. The fact that Pelini continued to talk to the players and voice his opinions did not help. The idea that some just did not buy into the change in any way. They will have another year of learning about each other. Overcoming shortfalls or misconceptions about certain ideas or players. This is a two way street. It takes both sides to want it, for it to succeed. It sounds like there is better harmony on the team this year.

Last year was a learning year for both sides. I will give them another year or two to see where this coaching staff is at.

Some think the corner has been turned and we are on our way to a NC and heisman trophy winner already. We still have a very long ways to go to be competitive with the top teams in this conference let alone the nation. It takes time, we need to give the coaches the time. If they fail, we move on. You can not live in the past and judge against the past. This is a different day in college football. We are no longer in the Big 2 and the 6 dwarfs. Out of conference teams are better every year due to parity. Give it time. I think we have a good staff, but who knows.

  7. I know this kids attitude is going to be missed this year. What a team player. Hopefully his dream comes true very quick. Most do not have the work ethic and desire he displays. I think it will happen and soon just like Demarrio.

  8. First would be Maine, followed by Wake Forest, then Pitt and on and on. No bigger game than the next one. Quit living in the past as if our future to win NC's is a given. We have a long hard trip back. Just win the next one. I will miss Maine, but will be at the Wake Forest and Pittsburgh games. Then I will be able to look forward to the next big game. Every one, in our situation is a big game.

  9. No comment on talent, comment on principles. Ruud had them the other three did not. I just do not buy the crap of not liking the coaches so I won't play. Football at the Nebraska level should never be about liking or not. If you come to this program there should never be a question of wanting to play or not. Maturity, loyalty and dedication should not have to be considered by the coaching staff. If you signed a letter to play, you do so to the best of your ability no matter who coaches you. It is a matter of principle period. Ruud had the character to play through the changes, the others did not. In my mind he will be the only that makes it. The others will be gone quickly.

  10. I wonder if BC had any input to Gruden on Barret? Could be starting a pipeline to Tampa. I think it is great if BC is working to get the kids on to the next level. Thanks to Barret for a great career and one who will be missed.

  11. Irish,

It has been painfully clear since Joe played his first series at Nebraska, that he did not have the talent to be a Division 1 QB. I doubt in 2003 he played more than 8 minutes. He was recruited by Frank to be a more balanced attack QB. He did not have the body type to be a dominat option QB. His passing skills (lack of) were evident in 2003. Nebraska had the worst offensive production in over 50 years in 2003. If Frank felt he could run his offense or Barneys offense do you really belive he would only have seen the field for as little as he did? Frank knew he was not what he thought. He was along the lines of Jammal, just not as strong or durable. He had two NFL coaches working with him for over a year. He never developed the skills to be a passing QB.

He got every chance, and even in his own words felt he got a fair chance. I stated last year after the spring game he would not survie and he would not lead us to a good season. Mechanics, decessions, footwork, tunnel vision. These are things that can not be changed. I truly believe Norvell and BC worked with this kid every chance they could. He just does not have the ability.

I like Joe and feel he should leave. He loves the game and he needs to go somewhere he can play. I stated last year I thought he should be at a Division 2 school. That is where is talent lies. Heart, dedication, loyalty, character he has in spades. The ability to run any Divsion 1 program is not there in my oppinion and never was.

  12. AR,

That is not possible, the staff and Pederson are only here to destroy the program. They would never do anything honest or positive. You have not learned a thing from FooFooFan. I am so disappointed in you.

  13. I do not think Ohio is an alternative. I think he should look at a division 2 shcool. He did not fit Franks offense then and Frank wants a more balance offense at Ohio. He just does not have the skills to run either at this level. I really like him after what he put up with last year. But if he wants to play the game in college he has made the correct decession. I just hope he does not set his sights to high. I see him in an Ivy league school.

  14. I disagree totally on Joe having a great game last year. I posted from that day forward we had real problems at QB( on BHF). Have not been here that long. He could not look off a DB, tracked from the snap and always threw behind the receiver. Could not hit a deep route. Joe had a descent game made by the coaching staff.

I do not like the way the spring games have been played the last two years. I feel the 1st teams are loaded with anyone that might be a 1st teamer. We need to see the 1 vs 1 to know where we really are. I doubt it would have been as pretty as it was. Not saying I am disappointed with Zach by any means. He did a materful job and looks like he will be the man. I would just rather have seen talent against talent. I am concerned about are lack of running ability with this Oline against the 3rd and 4th teamers.

All in all though I think we are much better this year than last at this time. It seems the team is meshing together and the staff knows more of what to expect from the players. It appears the players are beginning to understand what the coaches expect and want from them. I have heard the Daniel is becoming a leader on the defense, this is a far cry from last year. If he truly has bought in this year the defense will be much better than last year. I can hardly wait for more of the JUCO's to get here and the Freshman. I have much better feelings about this team than last years.
