  1. I have to agree, I still don't believe we have this great talent pool.  I have heard talk of our Dline and Oline being much better thru the summer/fall.  I did not see anything on our lines that even began to resemble what I saw on the Auburn and Oregon lines.  Auburn's were all 6.4 plus and right at 300 pounds and looked like athletes.  You can't make them in a year or two.  You have to recruit them it seems.

We have a win, enjoy it, we went a long time last year without one.  Hope that things improve, but after yesterday I would taper the talk of division champions and playoff possibilities some.

Setting here watching Middle Tennessee play Michigan, truly anyone can improve to give top teams fits.  Still a lot of games to make strides.  Hoping yesterday was just a bad day for our Huskers, but even with a bad day we got a win.  Remember that,

  2. A win is a win.  They all count.

I have never been a big Kool Aid drinker, so I am not quite as shocked as some are.

I thought Adrian looked slow, not quick, at some points almost plodding.   He was not the same player as last year for some reason.  Too much mass gain in to short of time period?

I agree on the hand shaking, with other players also.  Respect, a good trait to have.

  3. I think things are looking up, but I don't see us regularly being favored over Ohio State, Michigan and possibly Penn State.  Ohio State and recently Michigan seem to recruit with the southern power houses.  I see Nebraska being in the hunt on occasion, but not being able to maintain the flow like the other three.  Hopefully I am wrong on this, but you just don't go from 20-25 recruiting to top 5.  I think to be favored in most games that is the level it will require in the Big Ten's highest level.  It appears to me everyone in our division is making every effort to be good in football.

Just got our tickets for the Ohio State game.  Also attending the Chiefs game with the Colts the following week.  May go to Mizzou and Troy the Saturday after.  Have to come back for a wedding and decided to hit a few games.

  4. I don't think that would ever happen.  Oklahoma and Texas are a true rivalry.  Doubt Oklahoma would come with out that game being in stone.

As to rivalries, all that matters is if you think it is or don't think it is.  I feel Iowa has given us all we want for the last 40 years.  I don't really consider prior to 1980 being modern day football.  Actually 2000.  I know 1970-71.  I don't care who won in the 1800's.  Heck I wasn't even around then.  I went to my first game, I think in 1953, and it seems ancient even to me.  Nothing about it is the same

Since 1980 it is 7-6 with the Hawk Eyes winning the last 4.  Still feel we should be happy they consider us a rival, it shows respect for our program.  I don't care about trophies, I think most of them are stupid.  As to whether they are a rival or not really isn't important.  We need to start beating them if it ever is going to be.

Personally I would rather see us beat Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.  But after the last two years, any victory is good victory.

  5. I corrected it a little bit.  Just like all of you I want to see it be what I grew up in.  I want losses to be so devastating I can't think about anything else until the next game.  I watched my grandfather screaming his head off at Nebraska games and buried him in his Nebraska Red.  Love Nebraska always have, always will.

But I guess unlike most, I can deal with where we are, I can deal with other teams moving ahead of us as long as I think we are headed in the right direction and if it takes a few extra years, I hope to be alive to see it.

  6. Really not trying to piss anyone off.  I love the Huskers as much as anyone, and most likely have for a lot longer.  Realizing you are truly old sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

If you live in the past Iowa is not a rival.  I am tired of living in the past.  Today we are not a Blueblood, we are not on any top player in the countries top three list.  Reality.

Can we be again, too early to even think that way.  We are currently riding 2 4-8 seasons, with Nebraska's savior at the helm for one.  Will Coach Frost make us Nebraska again.  I think there is a chance, but nothing in concrete for me.

Iowa is so superior to us in modern day football (2000) it is ridiculous to compare them honestly.  We have one mythical NC appearance that we totally backed into and then got beaten like a drum.

Currently for me it is an honor to think anyone truly thinks of us as a rival.

  7. Well we have page after page saying we aren't concerned about Iowa being a rival.  Some seem pretty interested in this game.  How many years have they beaten us in row?  It might not be a rivalry in our minds, but I doubt they consider us one either.  We have done nothing to make them feel inferior lately.  Wisconsin the same.

Do I have a deep hate for Iowa, hell no, same thing, just on a different side of the Missouri.  Do I hate Wisconsin, no they just mange to beat us every year, may still be running the Jet Sweep.

Respect your competition.  You don't have to like them, but currently we are not near being a rival to either one of them.

  8. I can't think of the guys name, but on XM this morning, Andy Staples partner predicted Nebraska in the NC game.  Sure are a lot of high expectations for us.

I am not drinking the Kool Aid, but do expect to see a good amount of improvement.  I think we are couple of years away from that level.  I need to see improvement before I believe in miracles.

  9. I really don't care one way or another, but Texas coming to the Big 10 would help recruiting for Nebraska.  Two historic programs in our area would draw tremendous attention to the West, possibly putting it in the same thought as the SEC West.  Personally I would much rather see Nebraska play Texas or Oklahoma than Ball State or Troy.

I feel the Big 10 is lead well enough, no one is going to take advantage of them.

  10. Anything could have happened last year.  Top player lost for the season against Akron.  Who knows?  Nothing we can do or say about last year that makes a bit of difference.  We all believe that Coach Frost is doing everything he can to make the program what it was.  We just have to wait and see how it all works out.  I feel certain things will be better this year, and truthfully that is all I ever ask for.  Coulda shoulda does not matter, unless it is used to fill a post because it is the off season.

We do have a lot of believers out in college football land.  I am hoping they are all correct.  Oh by the way, the other day Rick Neuheisel, gave us a glowing report for the future and called the Nebraska fans the greatest in the country.  Pretty nice comment from a guy that Nebraskans seem to hate so badly.

  11. I am wondering what the feeling will be about the conference if we should happen to win it?   Will it continue to be (in some Nebraska fans mind) a below average conference with a lot of bottom feeders, or will it magically change to a tough road to get there.  We don't have to play in the SEC west, but I doubt there is an overall tougher conference to play in.

Tearing your competition down just makes your wins less important.  You can not have it both ways.

We came from the easiest conference to win in for many years, normally referred to as the Big 2 and little 6.  We moved/became the Big 12 and things got tougher.

Lack of respect for our competition is what got Nebraska into this giant tail spin.  You would think we could learn from our mistakes.

Football now pulls the train for college sports, not just at Nebraska, Alabama, LSU, Clemson and a few others as it used to be.  With 50 plus million going to the universities of the Big 10 they all want to get better and are spending the money to do so.  Winning the Big 10 is going to get tougher in the future.  It has always been tougher than the conferences we played in.

  12. No one knows what will happen.  But if Nebraska was ever going to return to prominence, we needed a great hire for head coach.  I think we got it, but I don't think it will happen as fast as some think.  I expect improvement this year, but not really sure we will be as dominant as some seem to think.  Other programs are making strides to improve, and all have the money to do it now.  No excuses for the conference. We will have tough fights to win, but I have faith that Coach Frost will figure it out.  Still think patience is needed.

  13. Out of the box thinking is what this program needs to be competitive.  Not a lot positions are more important than the lines.  Making them the stars of a camp is a great idea.  Excited to see how this plays out in the next few years.  Getting the kids on campus always helps.

  14. Coach Osborne and Coach Devaney both faced tough competition during their reigns.  No question.  But playing in the little 6 plus 2 was a lot easier than what Coach Cook faces every year.  He absolutely has to play the best of the country on a regular/weekly basis.  Getting to a National Championship requires playing the best.  Back in the day, at times football was decided on the field, but not always.  Coach Cook's NC's are all valid and without question.

I am pretty sure though, that without Coach Osborne or Coach Devaney, the rise to volleyball elite would have been a lot tougher.

I rate them as equals, other than the fact that Coach Cook is still building his legacy, which may end up being much better than the others.  We still are a Volleyball School.

I don't put Coach Frost in that category at this time.  Need to see it on the field not in the prediction threads.  Seriously doubt he will ever acquire the level of Coach Osborne, but know in my heart he is the best chance of it ever happening..

  15. I don't think the predicted win over Ohio State is a real comment on Nebraska, but lower expectations of Ohio State.  Seems to be a lot of people jumping off their band wagon.  QB may live up to expectations and if he does Ohio State will be just fine.  I really do not think we have the talent to beat Ohio State, but new coach and lot of new starters makes it possible I guess, but i am in the same thinking of Show Me.

Having once been an 18-year-old guy I can tell you with some certainty that he likely was not thinking at all when he sent this, just reacting.

    Shortly after the Mayflower landed.

Innocent until proven guilty.  Need to wait until both sides are known.  I don't agree with the try on a message board.  Kids will be kids, I know he turned 18 and is considered an adult, but most of these kids are not adults, pampered, sheltered, idolized, their thought process is not always spot on.  I want Nebraska to be a clean program, and I think Frost will do things right.  I do remember that we had a fair share of kids that weren't perfect under Coach Osborne.

Let's wait and hear/know all the facts before we hang the kid.

  17. He committed as a walk on, it means he wants to be here and didn't bargin around for something better.  Welcome the kid and quit trying to run him down.  This kid does not appear to have had the easy path.  He does not appear to be the prima donna, if I don't get what I want I am outa here type.  Frost is looking for guts, desire to play for Nebraska.  This kid has it, we need him.  He is a freebee, never look a gift horse in the mouth.

I realize we need 4 and 5 star players to be competitive with the elite in the nation.  We need gutty hard working kids to make the first step towards that.  I think he fits the bill

  18.

I don't think there is any proof of it not being necessary for the last 10-12 years.  What was done at UCF is history, just as the TO run.  Thinking that Coach Frost recruiting in the mid 20's will bring NC opportunities is homerism for sure.  It could happen, but highly doubtful.  I am just hopeful he makes us respected, gets us to the big dance on occasion.  If he does we should be very happy, if it doesn't happen and we win the ones we should I will be happy..  Being in the playoff is a dream.  He is a great fit at Nebraska, he has won some major games but he has not established that he is a great coach.  I think he will, but not necessarily by counting NC.

Currently the difference between the top 15 programs is gigantic.
