  1. Sup Topekahusker. I saw Fairbury hotdogs and Carl Pelini talking so that's all I need to know. Sounds like a good time and might have to drag my brothers down there since they coach high school ball. They might learn a few things from Carl. Anyways might see you down there man, thanks for the heads up. Northeast kansans for Nebraska article
  2. Nah I don't think we will blowout anyone and I don't think most fans expect a blowout. We just know we are better talent wise, depth wise, coaching wise. But we might have some bumpy times with unexperienced players. I also see some of these sunbelt teams being closer than I would like to see, but in the end I think Bo will have these guys ready for every single team we play. I have seen some videos of Pelini and his locker room speeches and it makes me want to put on a helmet and hit a 300 pound man when I only weigh 140 pounds. It's all muscle though
  3. Uh did you read my post or what man? 4 man playoff...the number 5,6,7,8 teams in the nation have the same record as the number 4 team. You don't think they won't cry about not getting in? 16 team playoff would add way too many games and then every game would not matter as much as it does right now. Don't talk about basketball...it's completely different. 1. Nobody cares about the regular season really. 2. The tournament has 65 teams so of course there is little doubt. But who is to say that this team wouldn't have beat this other team if they played? But the brackets aren't set up for those teams to play so honestly you never really know who the champion is. The champion could have lost to some other team they didn't see because they were in another bracket and got knocked off by someone else. Make sense? Any team can beat another team with the right luck...does that mean they are the better team in the long run? You think the Cardinals were the right team to be in the SuperBowl? They had a horrible record but made it into the playoffs when plenty of other teams didn't make it and they had much, much better records but didn't win their division. Playoffs are just as flawed buddy. You doubt that Florida was the NC last year? Let me put it to you this way...Nobody has thought up of another system that works. Don't try to explain a system to me, because you have no idea of all the factors you need to consider so I don't want to hear a system from me, you, or anyone else that is not a freakin genius. Like NASA type genius who thinks of every angle possible. Once again my advice to NCAA is to not listen to any of us. We have no idea what happens in the background and most people rush to judgements and mess things up with their emotional bias and haste.
  4. So, being an average team in a below average conference suddenly equates to playing "very good ball"? Really? Maybe the Huskers should go over to the Sun Belt and we'll see just how "average" our players really are. I am well aware that FAU has some very good players - specifically on the offense - but to make a sweeping generalization saying that FAU's talent is equal to or greater than our talent is ridiculous. You seem to be implying that because FAU went on the road and kept up with one of the big boys - although one could argue that losing by 17 points and not scoring a TD isn't exactly "keeping up" - that they should do very well at Nebraska. However, you fail to recognize the other two away games they had on their schedule last year in which they got totally annihilated (Texas and Minnesota). I do agree that Texas has superior atheletes, but Minnesota? This is a Minnesota team that lost to Kansas by 3 TDs; the same Kansas team we beat by 10. So, I think you are using information to your advantage by leaving out bits and pieces that would weaken your argument. I see talent because I have been watching football for a loooooong time and I know good talent when I see it. I'm not worried about what Callahan or any of the recruiting websites say about our players (well, I do a little bit, because when I haven't seen much of them on the field, it's all I have to go off of). After all, why would any of us believe what Callahan said about the talent of the team when it was clear he was out of his element as head coach (it became very apparent in 2007). Yes, any team can win on any given day, which is why none of us are arguing that our coaching staff and players cannot overlook any opponent this season. However, I think the win against Michigan was more of an exception than the rule. If Appy State truly had comparable talent to Michigan, it wouldn't have been on ESPN 24/7 for the week following their win (and months and months after). It would not have been considered an upset. And if Appy State truly had comparable talent to the "big-time" programs the team would be a "big-time" program themselves in terms of big wins. But they are not. Sure they have a pretty good football team, but when it comes down to it, they are still a Division I-AA school. So "pretty good" is relative. I do agree that it might be a close game, but mostly attributed to the fact that the Huskers - especially the young LBs, the new QB, the newly formed OL, etc. - haven't gotten used to the flow of the game. It takes a while to work some things out, but I feel that late third quarter is when we put it away. You pretty much summed up everything very nicely. Skersfan has lost a lot of faith it sounds like. (not knockin you Skersfan...I like talking football with you, just an observation)
  5. Everyone wants a 16 team playoff like everyone else has in every other sport or level of football. We don't want the present beauty contest/popularity matchup after a 40 plus day layoff! We want REAL football!!! Not everyone. I don't want a playoff. I like having every single saturday of the regular season matter. I don't like the idea of letting teams take games off. I agree with you Carl...a playoff is a horrible idea. Do you guys think that a playoff would really determine who is the best? I have always thought playoffs were a joke that also has the potential to not really get the best teams in the final game. All it takes is a little bit of luck and the best team could get knocked out by some lucky team like Utah. So lets say after Utah beats Alabama in their playoff game and advance to the championship game. Do you guys really believe that Utah wouldn't get destroyed by Florida? Who would really want to see that game seriously? Plus if you don't think it would ruin the fact that every game counts well you are wrong. You could lose a few and still make it to the playoffs and still win the championship game. But you have 3 losses and the other team only has that 1 to you. Does that mean that you are really the champion? And if it is 4 or a 16 team playoff there will be that #5 or #17 team with fans of the team crying, because they have the same record as the some of the teams that made it in. Someone will still be left out. The BCS does need to make some changes, but I still think they shouldn't listen to any of us anyways. We just have way to much emotion to judge the situation with prudence. I know if I was running the show I wouldn't listen to any of you. Haha jk or maybe I'm not?
  6. I think the mods know about this guy. He will be gone soon. No one else on the other sites can stand this kid, because all he does is pull this crap. I feel bad for him, because I am pretty sure he has no friends and he seems like a pretty weird kid.
  7. I love these uniforms, but I will miss the N on the helmet even though it is just for one game.
  8. Have my eye all over it. Thank you hskrnokc...I don't like to complain about other posters, but I had to deal with this guy on ESPN and LJS. I am trying to get away from those types of people lol.
  9. Yeah I already have him on ignore myself. Only problem is when people quote him...I can still see what he said in previous posts by that quote.
  10. Please to all who read this...DO NOT respond to Nebraskan4CU. Only reason he is over here is because everyone on the espn and LJS sites have ignored him. Trust me...just ignore him and he will go away. I beg all of you to just ignore this kid no matter how much you want to run his head through a plate glass window.
  11. Hahaha. I spit up my water I was drinking when I scrolled down and saw that picture. HAHA Classic.
  12. I think we will see more pressure this year, I kind of got the impression early last year that the coaches didn't entirely trust the secondary and LBs to hold their own if they let the line cut loose. Unfortunately, they where proven right on that one a few times. That was my impression as well Tim. It seemed like we held back on blitzing more than what we saw Pelini do in 2003 or at LSU. I think if our secondary shows they can handle coverages better then we will see a lot more pressure. LB's and safeties...I think we will see a lot more pressure being generated from those guys.
  13. This article is trash in my book. Not because Nebraska is too low or anything, but Alabama being #3? 2003: 4-9 2004: 6-6 2005: 10-2 but with scandal 0-12 2006: 6-7 but with scandal 0-13 2007: 7-6 but with scandal 2-11 2008: 12-2 The textbook scandal is dumb so just looking at their win/loss even without the forfeited wins doesn't really impress me. In no way, shape, or form should Alabama be at #3...I'm sorry. Attendance is one of their categories for basing this and really that only favors teams with the biggest stadiums and they don't even sell out their stadiums. Recruiting is another where they take Rivals.com's word for who had the best recruiting class. And then they give us 4 national championships which we all know is 5 so that's another thing that makes me say this is crap. The article was clearly way too bias so it's tough to take trash like this seriously. Alabama still has a lot to prove just like Nebraska does...they don't deserve to be #3.
  14. Relax...Carl said this was just for kicks and that's all it is.
  15. Nobody said should...we said could. Yeah we had a lot of mental errors in that game, but Virginia Tech really didn't impress any of us and we had a chance to win that game even with how we played. Edit: I guess I should have read the other posts...Newearthhusker said we should have won. I still believe we could have won that game if we didn't make so many mistakes, but that is why they play the game I guess.
  16. I would say VTech as well. Oklahoma and Missouri would be tough wins even if played like we did towards the end of the year. Texas Tech was a heart breaker, but I still feel like Virginia Tech was a game we could have won. So that would be my choice. Texas Tech was a turn around moment and it was a great learning game on how to really combat pass happy teams so I don't think I would change that as it was a defining moment even though we lost.
  17. Lol all right man I will indulge you a bit here. The post was to rank our 2009 games according to how tough the game will be and whether or not we might win/lose. Most people are saying we can beat TTech and they think they will be a good football team but we can still beat them. Not really sure what UT and TTech playing has anything to do with our rankings of teams on Nebraska's schedule. First you say "YOU folks are marking it down in the AUTO-win category!!!" Then you say, "when tech will be PREMATURELY RANKED, before NU, OSU, Baylor, and OU all DESTROY THEM!!!" I am so confused on your post man...are you saying we shouldn't put them in the auto-win category? But then you go on to say we will destroy them? Just trying to make sense of this because all we want is what teams on our schedule will be the toughest games put into a ranking. I apologize for my other post...I was just messing around but reading back on it that was in bad taste so sorry about that man.
  18. I don't understand your comment. Beyond the first phrase, your whole statement talks about how over rated PirateTech is. The last five games are the only ones I would be shocked if we lost, as the first two games if we win. Baylor and PirateTech will be close games but I am fairly confident that we should win. It's Rkhufu huKSer...don't pay any attention to him. I don't think he has ever seen a Nebraska game or made any sense in any post I have read from him.
  19. We are just fine on the line. 61 combined starts for our o-line and that's the best in the north by far. WR I also say will be fine. Somebody will step up and get the job done, but what I like the most is what we might do with Mendoza. If they make him a slot guy he will be very tough to match up on. Our TE's will be great this year and they are always a nice safety option for a new quarterback. Solid line, solid running game, solid TE's...I am liking our options even though we are inexperienced at QB and WR. I remember people saying the same things about losing Purify and Nunn after 2007. They were questioning if Peterson and Swift could get the job done and I would say they did. Just like I think Holt, Paul, Bell, Mendoza, or Brooks will get the job done. Other thing I have to say about our WR's is Will freakin Henry...6'5" and 220 pounds. Just saying I like the size of some the young guys.
  20. Actually it was the end of one platoon football (same players play both offense and defense). The Bob-father wanted a way to identify players on defense from the offense, so one of the assistant coaches went to a local sports store and the only color they had enough of was . . . tah dah . . . black. Thats right they went back to two platoon football. Been a while since I have read all that stuff and yeah they wanted contrasting jerseys from the first string defense and the offense...I mistyped that part. Thanks for pointing that out huKSer. I cracked open my old husker book and it said it was around 1964. So lets just say early 1960's and run with that.
  21. Yeah it was in 1961 or 1962 (can't remember exactly which year it was) Bob Devaney wanted to differentiate between the first string defense and the rest of the defense. So he had them put on blackshirt practice jerseys. The name really caught on in the late 1970's when our defense was one of the best in the country. I want you to go check out www.coachpelini.org-it is a fantastic website that shows the history and tradition of Nebraska and what Pelini is doing right now. Once you get to the website there is an intro video which is what we show at the Husker games for the tunnel walk. Same music and everything, but it is much more intense to actually watch the tunnel walk in person. You can skip the intro or watch it, but once you get past that there is a log-in...type in Guest and password=guest...watch the video that comes up with Pelini talking and there are some locker room talks that he does. Then after that you can read about the blackshirts, traditions, current huskers, and all sorts of things. Great site. www.coachpelini.org username=guest password=guest Enjoy Kiwi
  22. If they use mendoza correctly (which I believe they will) then oh boy. Every other team can doubt our receivers or our quarterbacks but this kid is so fast that he can come around on a jet sweep, get the hand-off and then throw it 70 yds. for a touchdown to himself. Fact is this kid will be in the slot and he will be very tough to match up on. Like SoCal said, that will then open up other guys. And I wouldn't worry too much about Lee, because if he just throws to Mendoza he should never throw a pick. I mean just lead him about 20 yds. and he will catch up.
  23. Well that kind of sucks. Part of me is like sweet we should have a much better chance of winning. The other part of me says when we beat Kansas I would rather have their best guy out there on the field so there are no excuses. I guess we will have to wait and see if it is just a rumor or maybe Steele had some insider information...could be why he put them at #4 in the north.
  24. Agreed. Was it just me or were the penalties against Nebraska pretty one sided? I'm not saying we didn't deserve some penalties, but I saw many plays where the other team did the same exact penalty not more then 2 plays after ours (2 plays is a bit of a stretch but just threw a number out there). I don't want to see football get to be like the NBA where there is a penalty every 5 seconds so I have to say I don't mind them looking the other way sometimes. But at least even it out...the officiating was horrible all across the country in my book. Tom Osborne is right that we should be able to sit out crappy officials if we so choose.
  25. Bo likes to go with the 4-3 package, but with all of the high powered offenses we face in the Big XII he is going to a nickel hybrid so we can take care of pass or run in the same package. In 2003 when we had Pelini he liked to put Demorrio Williams (our best linebacker that year in my opinion) on the line and he would just explode past the o-line. Pelini likes to blitz, but he emphasizes a 4 man rush with our D-line. His theory is if you can pressure with 4 guys then you free up everyone else to cover and make interceptions. He mixes up his coverages quite a bit from what I saw so I am not sure what he favors as far as zone or man to man. Our secondary is questionable at times (they are young and still learning a new sytem) so I did notice he tried to blitz with caution. Plus the Big XII is pass happy. I expect we will see a lot more from our defense this year and we will probably see more of what Pelini wants to do on defense. We might not be as stacked as our blackshirts of the past, but we will see quite a few hints of the old blackshirt defense. It's a pretty exciting time right now.
