  1.

As porous as our D's been past couple weeks,

Okie State gashed us for some points, but Gundy knows offense like Bo knows defense. I did not expect them to be held under 21. I don't know when the last time they were held under 21. The fact that we got out of Stillwater with a win is a great sign.

Gundy knowing offense has nothing to do with our defensive line getting beaten like Brock Lesnar's face.

  2. Hey guys. I'm a Mizzou fan coming to Lincoln for the first time. Looking for a place to go after the game. A place with a good atmosphere, good food, cold beer. I've heard the of the Water Hole. I think that's what it's called. Heard the wings are awesome.

    Thanks for any responses.

Looking forward to a great game this weekend.

    Yeah the wings are good.

  3. In addition, if the officials call fouls for targeting defenseless players or using the crown of the helmet and the player is not ejected, the rules mandate a conference review. Furthermore, if the review by the conference reveals actions that should have resulted in a personal foul but were not called, the conference may impose sanctions.

So basically if it WAS an illegal hit, the conference will go back and do something about it. In that case, me and everyone who said it was a clean hit would be wrong. I'll eat that crow if it's served up.

I'm not holding my breath however.

EDIT: or maybe I'm reading it wrong and it won't be reviewed since there was no flag. They would review it in the NFL, I don't know about the BIG XII or NCAA. I'm willing to admit it if I read it wrong.

  4. Yes, I agree with that. It's not a legal hit, and it's more clearly an illegal hit than Martin's. But Martin's still falls within the definition of today's illegal hits - at least how the refs interpret them.

Umm... no. As I showed you nearly an hour ago on video, "the refs" saw Martin's hit quite clearly, and didn't flag it.

Your misinterpretation of this rule does not make your argument right. It makes your argument wrong for a reason you don't understand. Continuing to post the same thing over and over also does not make you right, it makes you wrong longer. Stop being wrong.

Haha I like that. I'm going to use that one.

  5. He was on kick return cover, he has to be ready for big hits. Its part of the game, when your on KICK RETURN. And yes it was flagged, but I dont see the point in attacking Martin for a good hit.

Again, please try to keep up. This has no affect on my argument, because I'm not arguing he was defenseless. He was fair game to be blocked. The block, though, was illegal. Or perhaps I should say the block falls into a rules interpretation that the refs will call if they see it.

And the refs decided it was a legal block so...

  6. Dont you want Taylor protected from getting his head punched? That call was right.

The point of your post is...what? That part is explicitly covered in the rules in that you can't punch/forearms/yada yada to the head. The point we're discussing is not explicitly covered, it's an interpretation of more general rules, which is why there is debate.

The point is why do you care about what happened to an OSU player, on a completely legal football play when OUR quarterback got uppercutted and his head slammed into the turf?

It wasn't a legal play, it was an illegal hit. And hit on Taylor was flagged, wasn't it?

The difference is the hit on Taylor was illegal, and the hit on the OSU kid wasn't according to... ya know... THE RULES. Which you are still ignoring.

  7. I do love a good knapplc-owning-people thread. I have seen too few of these in recent months. Or maybe I just don't lerk as much as I used to.

Except he's not owning anyone since he's convinced it has to be explicitly stated in the manual to be covered in the game. It doesn't, the refs interpret those rules all the time, which is why they try to add the rule interpretations. But they don't cover everything or every situation. I've posted an example from the rules that covers the Martin hit as illegal.

Again, you're grasping at straws and simply ignoring the rules. If it was illegal it would have been called. It wasn't, move one.

  8. That's debatable... Zac Taylor was pretty legit, and let's not forget Joey Ganz. And of course, Sam Keller.

But, honestly, I can't comment at this point in his career, but if Tay Mart can consistently throw like he did yesterday, he'll definitely be the most COMPLETE QB Wats has ever coached.

    Watson's words, not mine.

  9. Best fans in college football, sitting here justifying a flaggable helmet to helmet hit and then claiming it's only being discussed because they have a beef with the announcers. lmao

You're grasping at straws and simply ignoring the rules of the game. There's a reason it wasn't called.

  10. No, as you can see in what I quoted, they EJECT players for flagrant helmet to helmet hits. They only call the ones like Martin's.

And yet they didn't call the one in question. Which makes it hilarious we're even discussing it.

  11. Thanks for posting that video. It's clearly an illegal hit due to the helmet to helmet contact coming from the high nature of the hit.

But it was not intentionally illegal, hence there should be no suspension. It should have been flagged, though.

I'm shocked that so many don't feel this is an illegal hit. Yes, the contact is incidental, but that does NOT matter in this case except to say the hit was not malicious. The hit was up high and the other player wasn't ducking down or doing anything that could put his helmet suddenly into the line of contact. If you make a hit like that and your helmet slams into the other guy's, it is an ILLEGAL hit.

wtf is wrong with you people?

    /facepalm

  12. There's literally dozens of helmet to helmet hits in every game. Yet there's only a big uproar about it when it results in injury.

Like that helmet shot Niles took on that weird option play that was reviewed. Nobody made a peep about that.

All this controversy about helmet to helmet contact is just based on knee jerk reactions to injuries.

If that kid Martin hit got up right away, we wouldn't have heard a word about it. Hit's like that happen all the time on kick-offs. But it's only a controversy when someone gets hurt? Gimme a break.

And yes Matin's hit was clean. This controversy is based on the announcer's idiocracy.

  13. Very happy with yesterdays game compared to last weeks as far as play calling. What I would really like to see is more roll out's for Martinez. The few times we've rolled the pockout out Martinez we've gained big yards, a few of those long gains have been called back by penalty. I would love to see more roll outs. Get Martinez out into space giving him the option to throw or run.

Agree 100%. Those defensive ends will be exhausted chasing around Martinez all day.

  14. Nebraska is going to beat MU. And the defense is going to be fine. You have to love the comments on this board. Everybody buried the team after the Texas loss. Now, after watching MU top OU...it's the same talk as last week. Of course my favorite comment was that Coz was back as DC. Pelini's crew gives up some points against a team with a track record for scoring a TON. And we are all ready to say it's Pelini's fault. Nice. Maybe we should fire those guys and hire Wade Phillips. I hear he's a really good defensive coordinator.

Haha at least we'd get some linebackers on this team if Wade was running the defense. He is a great defensive coordinator. Just a terrible head coach.

I know you were just joking but he is a much better defensive coordinator than Carl Pelini. Let's not kid ourselves, Bo was running the defense the last two years.

Hmm.. Wade Phillips... I think you're onto something...

  15. The thing that people need to realize is the VAST majority of helmet shots are incidental. Everything happens so fast out there you can't always control what happens. A guy jumps higher than you think, you hit his head, a guy goes lower than you think and you hit his head.

There were DOZENS of helmet shots in that game, in every game, but they're barely ever mentioned unless a guy get's hurt. A guy happens to get hurt and all of a sudden the guy making the hit is a dirty player or a head hunter? That's BS. Go watch soccer if you can't handle it.

Finally, Martin's hit was clean and legal. The announcers were idiots.

Right, because no one get seriously hurt in soccer...

    -----my point-----

    -----your head-----

People get hurt playing golf. That doesn't make it a contact sport.

  16. Taylor Martinez is our biggest playmaker on offense.

Basically I just want him to mature, and our offense will be fine for the next few years. He showed yesterday he has the potential to be a true dual threat.

I agree about seeing his potential, it was nice seeing him get his feet under himself in the pocket and checking down to receivers and going through the progression of all of his receivers.

Haha whoops, I thought you were asking about next year, not next week.

I just want us to remain balanced like we did this week. Whatever the coached did to coach up the receivers..... DO THAT. They had a great game.

I loved the play action out of the zone read look. That will open it up for Martinez, Helu, and Burkhead to run. We got to keep this Tiger defense off balanced.

  17. Missouri has better lineman on both sides of the ball. 9 times out of 10, that means they'll win. I have a bad feeling about this game.

Plus our offense had a great day against a HORRIBLE defense. That means next week they be believing their own hype and fumble 6 times. Mizzou has been playing better defense than us all year. MUCH better.

And I don't know if you guys have heard........ but it's a home game.
