  1. There are few things I know, and since I haven't been to all of the cities I won't rank them:

    1. Minneapolis/St. Paul is a great city and area. The campus is not the best, but there's tons to do right next to it.

    2. If you want to re-live your college days, go to Madison. You can't help but get sucked in. The city itself is beautiful also - located between two large lakes.

    3. East Lansing (and all of Lansing for that matter) sucks.

    4. Ann Arbor is nice, but the stadium and everything else seems detached from campus.

    5. East Lansing sucks, but West Lafayette makes it look like paradise.

I don't post much and my opinion doesn't really matter, but I felt like it today, I guess.

  2. You're entitled to your own opinion, but mine is that they look pretty sweet. Especially if that's paired with the regular helmets, I think it would be awesome to see.

    Again, that's my opinion.

  3. I'd be happy to see Suh as a Lion. They did snap their 19 game losing streak last season! Even though they only won two games I think they are making the moves that indicate that they want to win. Stafford will also be in his second season. Detroit is a working class city and I think they would totally love him.

The Lions are up and coming man, im telling you. Stafford is the real deal and theyve made nothing but smart moves since getting rid of that clown Millen. Chicago is a wreck coming off the rails, Green Bay needs to find a defense, and Minnesota is busy being held hostage by a senior citizen. They get the Pats, Jets, Redskins, Rams, and Iggles at home and their away draw of the Bills, Cowboys, Dolphins, Giants and Bucs isnt exactly frightening. The Lions could suhprise people this year, no doubt.

The fact that the Lions can not only have a "pre-draft party" but also get 1,500 people to attend says something. The people are still somewhat excited about the Lions, and that's cool. Good for them. I hope Suh goes there.

  4. I know we lost Owa but look on the bright side: We could be Western Kentucky

    1. They just lost the most high profile recruit in their programs history in Carnes

    2. They have to play Nebraska, to whom they lost said recruit, at Memorial Stadium, to start 2010.

    3. They're nicknamed the "HILL TOPPERS"?

    4. Their mascot looks like the by product of an illicit affair between McDonalds character Grimmace

and a red bean bag chair.

Just coping with the Owa loss like everyone else. :wasted

I personally think the Hilltoppers mascot is one of the best in all of college sports. Also, their nickname is regional and historical. Isn't ours? Would you rather be a guy who climbed a hill in the Appalachians or a guy who husks corn on his front porch?

  5. It's worth mentioning that St. Thomas Aquinas was the top ranked team in the nation by pretty much every poll prior to their loss to Manatee.

Highlight films are highlight films. I'm not saying you can't glean information from film like this, rather that it is more indicative of what you are getting than your standard highlight film that shows only the positives without regard to the level of competition. It isn't apples to apples.

Few college quarterbacks would be providing footage from their encounters against Nebraska this past season in their personal highlight reels.

He would certainly be a project. You don't find many refined passers in the state of Florida as high school football in Florida is very much like football in the SEC. That doesn't mean that he lacks potential or that he wouldn't be effective operating a run heavy offense.

Good post ticks, and I agree with most everything you have said, but shouldn't toughness and competitiveness be numero uno on the list of things you are looking for when you disect a HS football players film? This is a serious question. I guess I don't know because I am not a coach or scout, but it seems to me that a player who shies away from contact in almost every instance is a big gamble. Of course there could also be other issues here that I am not aware of, like an injury that is affecting his play or possibly coaches who have made it clear to him that he is to avoid contact whenever possible. Overall I do trust this coaching staffs ability to recruit, so with that said I wouldn't complain about Carnes signing with us, but I would certainly be leery.

Toughness and competitiveness are intangibles, which means they cannot be measured. The problem with intangibles is that everyone from fans to announcers tries to measure them. We cannot measure a kid's toughness based on a little game film.

The kid plays starting quarterback for a good team in some of the best HS football in the country. If he lacked toughness/competitiveness he probably wouldn't be starting at QB.

  6. Why is Rex Burkhead so good? He is an undersized white kid from Texas and he is ripping it up at the running back position. He isn't the biggest or fastest kid on the team so why is he so good? I am not sure but I think he is so good because he has tremendous vision as a runner and he has a high football IQ. What do you guys think? What makes Burkhead so good? The deck is stacked against him but he still just rips it up.

The deck is stacked against him? Why? Because he's white? I don't get it.

He really isn't undersized at all, when you think about it. I don't think anyone would say Marlon Lucky was undersized, but Rex is one inch shorter and ten pounds lighter (which is still 200 lbs).

  7. He's good for the same reason Boise State is good. He just wants it more than anyone else. I read an interesting article on ESPN the other day that was talking about why 3 star recruits often times make better college players than 4 and 5 star recruits. It's simple. It's heart and desire.

That's fine, but Rex was a 4-star recruit last year.

  8. Let's say Bo does decide to replace Shawn Watson.

Who do we replace him with?

    Larry Porter - LSU

    Rob Ianello - Notre Dame

    Ed Warinner - Kansas

    Reggie Mitchell - Illinois

    Norm Chow - UCLA

    Brian Polian - Notre Dame

Can we go after any of these top names?

Larry Porter has taken the head coach job at Memphis. I like Chow but don't see him as fit here. Illinois? No thank you. Ianello should get interviewed...great recruiter and the offense was not the issue at ND. This guy has worked well with skill players and could get some top QB's, RB's, and WR's in here to play. He'd be on my list.

Didn't Weis take over play calling before this guy started? I don't think that is a good idea, we need an experienced play-caller to come in or somebody that was around when TO was calling plays. I wonder if we don't have a good candidate on the staff, however I am not sure it fits him as well.

Watson and Gilmore are let go, Frost and Ganz replace them, Ron Brown as Offensive Coordinator? Like I said, it is a pipe dream. I am not aware of Brown as a play caller at any time in his career but he is a fantastic coach and I'm sure would work with TO to figure it out.

Again, don't crucify me for this, just a thought that probably wouldn't work. However, the Frost/Ganz upgrade would be nice.

Not going to crucify you, but there are a couple things I question here.

This is NOT Tom Osborne's team. If it were, he would be the coach. He is not Nebraska's Head Football Coach. He does NOT (should not) run the team. That is Bo Pelini's job. Therefore we do not need somebody that was around during Osborne's time.

Ron Brown is a fine person, but he has no experience running an offense. He has experience teaching receivers (whether they be WRs or TEs) how to block. His unit was not incredibly strong this year. The idea of him at Offensive Coordinator is scary.

If you want a new coordinator to run the offense, its going to take more than just finding old Nebraska people and plugging them in. Saying they have "more passion" does not make them good fits for certain positions. Is Watson the answer? I don't know, but he's the current OC, has the support of his HC, and therefore deserves our support.

  9. Maybe I missed something (and if I did someone I'm sure will correct me), but when have the coaches said that they're going to stick with this heavy-sets run oriented offense? Watson has been quoted as saying he wants to get back to the offensive style from last season, just that there wasn't enough experience at QB and OLine. He wants to run, sure, but I don't think he wants a revert to 1990s era Nebraska football either.

It seems to me that we're doing an awful lot of assuming.

with the other recievers you really can't know, because they could still be used...especially Bell, and if we go to a heavy run offense why don't we split Kyler out wide as the main reciever...he'd be a mismatch in terms of blocking downfield as a reciever on a DB.

To me, this is a completely wacked out view of WRs. We favor mismatches in blocking rather than pass-catching and playmaking ability? I hope not.

  10. Appreciate the words. I suppose most of the calls were OK, aside from a couple pass interferences where receivers weren't even looking at the ball. It was the non-calls (all year really) that were more frustrating. The fact that Suh and an absolutely dominant D Line gets 0 holding calls all game long is astounding.

Anyway, I don't dislike you or most of your fans, but I do dislike your coach, QB, and the conference that your team runs.

  11. While LB is always a position of need, don't forget we have some good youth there right now in Fisher, Compton, and Martin. Maybe the biggest playmaker to come out of there next year will be Chris Williams who redshirted this year due to injury his Sr. year of high school. He was a huge get at LB last year, so don't be surprised if he makes an impact early next season.

  12. What did Eric Martin do?

    :dunno

Jumps around like a madman (which he is) before special teams plays . . . pumps up the crowd . . . etc. I'm not condemning it, I think it is entirely appropriate for a defender to act that way. It's a great mindset. I was just saying that he's more vocal than Asante and probably more of a self-promoter/talker.

While doing that stuff does help him and he's doing it to make himself more pumped up, it helps the team also because they can feed off his and the crowd's energy. Not to mention when he's pumped like that he is capable of making some big plays on D and special teams.

Calling someone a "self-promoter" seems to have a negative connotation.
