  1. Being a Nebraskan formerly stationed in New York (state) and California...NE is already regarded as backwater. My advice to Derek Starling is be Derek Starling, not "Bubba." That way you'll be a headline, not a punchline.

You get one of these

  2. To think that we could have all freshman returning kicks and punts kind of makes a guy nervous.

Yeah, but we are coming from Niles Paul who seemed to be the perpetual freshman when it came to mistakes...

Really? You are a troll my friend

If everyone who's ever griped about Niles and his ham-fisted ball carrying ways is a troll, then about 3/4 of this board are trolls.

See topic for thread, see the good conversation about backs, look at random bash on a player that played his ass off and made some mistakes, if that post in this thread is not troll worthy then I don't know what is

  4. Actually, Diaz requires attention as well. Sometimes he inexplicably takes an ugly fade away hook shot, but he's also backed guys down very often. Without Diaz on the floor, this team would not have 7 conference wins. He may be frustrating to watch, but that doesn't change the fact that Nebraska needs him. Look at the KSU game - NU lost a close one to a really good team. Why? Because Diaz was unable to finish. When he is able to finish, Nebraska wins more often than not. Do you really think Doc would continue to give him 30+ minutes if he had a better option?

Exactly. Nobody thinks that Diaz is a dominating post player. He's a big guy that uses his length to score the ball. And look at the improvement from last year to this year. He busted his ass in the offseason to gain 25 pounds (lets see any poster on here gain that much muscle in a year). If he can do that again, he'll probably improve some more, which would be nice. He's no Alex Maric, but the team still needs him. Saying that the team's 2nd leading scorer is a problem area for us is a bit ridiculous.

    +1

Finally some people who actually understand schematics and the game of basketball, not just sweet dunks and behind the back passes. Yes those are fun and happen and create momentum. Diaz is the second leading scorer and should be on the floor when at all possible. I like the new look with both big men, they can clear paths. Rebounding aside Diaz plays well for what he does, good role player, and he plays good defense and keeps his man in front of him.

  5. I know that bball dude and others so go to the games, as do I. I was going nuts like I do every game in section C1 up close to the top with visiting fans behind me. For those who do not go the games, you have no right to ever comment on the crowd unless you are there. I'll tell you exactly why people don't get pumped up, it is because the students are forced to sit behind the hoops in a small section which is almost nearly impossible to fire up the crowd, they do help,, they are loud, and they sure get on the refs right in their faces. If you watch good teams, they have students along one whole side of court going crazy the whole time. It helps, it looks amazing on TV, and sure gets on the other team when the whole length of the floor they are hearing it. The *$($#'s in the A section should not even be allowed into the game, they do nothing, and what is worse is they stand DURING THE TIMEOUTS, and not during the game, what the *%&$. That is what pisses me off, let me who has had my tickets for 5 years in the same spot toward the top, who is freaking out the whole game, move down so I can tear Frank Martins face off with great comments (no profanity), but good stuff. That is still why I think TO sucks as an AD, and basketball will never get better unless the student support is appreciated, not some old a-hole that won't go nuts when we do something awesome. The other thing that you all some of you on this board should try is Cheering for your guys instead of always finding something wrong with what happened, so what? The other team did something good, cheer for your team, do not berate someone because their rebound numbers are low, because they missed 2 open threes in a row. This is half of you, and how half the crowd cheers. If you just would cheer for our team instead of complaining "about what they did wrong" (remember most teams make plays too) the games would be loud. Its like that rule is you don't have anything good to say about the team then shut your bleepin mouths you cowards. Ya Diaz didn't have a rebound, he also had two sweet baskets in the run that put us way up, so shut it. Section C1 Row 24, I am the nuts guy near the isle. Scripted

  6. Here I will try to give some facts:

If we win all four games to end the season we will be ranked in the top 25 going into the conference tourny and will be in the NCAA even if we lose in that. Our RPI would rise into the mid to low 30s

If we go 3 of 4 and two of the wins are against Mizz and KS then we likely be in without having to win in the big 12. We will have 5 wins over the top 50 RPI and 4 over the top 30 which would clearly put us in the tourny. Most bubble teams boast maybe 2 big wins, we could possibly have 4 and it would be really hard to keep us out.

If we win at home and lose on the road we will have to win 2 in the big 12 to get in.

  7. I have a few points I would like to make.

I don't think a NU hockey program would kill UNO. I think they could both have successfull programs. The recruits would come to a successfull program. Lincoln and Omaha are different markets with little fan crossover besides football. I could see it as Creighton NU in both basketball and baseball.

This rink is not being built for a hockey program. It only holds 1500. Could a hockey program practice there and play games at Pershing? I don't know, possible.

Hockey is coming to the Big10. You don't have to be a genius to see the Big10 network driving this to happen. PennST will make 6, who else will join? A lot is going to happen in the next 4 years.

This is not true, first it is being built for the club hockey team and the university. The arena as I understand can be built to hold more fans in need be. Second they don;t build 18 million dollar arenas to not hold a program. I have first hand knowledge because my old roommate in college was the captain of the club team when they brought it back in 04. He played all four years and was involved in securing the donation for the arena. If possible the University would have a team if they can get another womens sport, and this case it probably will be womens hockey. And the club team has beaten some of the scholarship teams. UNO and UNL each having a team would not be a bad thing. The Mavs would not lose recruits, because they have a great coach and fans, if anything it could pump up both programs. Being in the same university system has nothing to do with Lincoln not getting a team. And a 1500 fan arena in a small venue could be awesome and great fan experience. The university could charge a lot for ticket. Look I have first hand knowledge of this, it will be a sport soon after that rink gets built. And to who ever called me Bird, I'm gonna kick your anonymous ass, because obviously you must know me.

  8. Absolutely no chance UNL gets a hockey team when UNO's is so successful and competitive. Remember, they're both part of the University system, there is seriously no a chance in the world that they would be on board with that.

    Thank you.

And now you have made me do my research, because your wrong. Here you go

    My link

And here is another one, gosh the University would never think of doing that....ooooo damn

  9. Yep 7 for 8 and 14 points, we better not see that reoccur, that would be just terrible. God he better shoot better then that, because if he doesn't then he is just not good. Really dude either watch the game and count some makes or bring a stat sheet to fill while the game is going on, sometimes our other guys get rebounds he has tipped to them or is going for. He is consistent scorer down low, get over it, your wrong.

Disagree. It's well known CU's weakness is inside, frankly it was expected the bigs have a good game against a team like CU: loaded on guards, no inside presence.

You want to talk stats, how about this: 85-151 (.563). That's Diaz's stat line on the season. Last year he shot 52%. 56% is not terrible, and Diaz has stepped it up a little bit. This certainly isn't the worst percentage in the league, BUT if you look at teams with strong inside game (which is the sole reason Doc plays JBD, he wants to run his offense starting on the inside), those teams' big man almost always shoots over 60%. Also, a lot of those guys (Morris for KU) will shoot 15 footers and even 3's, JBD doesn't shoot past 5 foot. (Almeida shoots 66%, just for comparison)

Here's the stat that's really alarming: Rebounding totals.

    Walker - 93

    Diaz - 85

    McCray - 80

    Jeter - 71

Diaz should be dominating the boards, but he's not. I have no clue why.

I'm not going to completely rip Diaz, because I think he's better this year. It's just so frustrating to watch him sometimes. If he throws it down instead of laying it up even half the times he has the opportunity, he'd be shooting at a much higher percentage, and if he'd aggressively crash the boards he could easily get 10 a night. This is the guy who went for 20 and 10 against Cole Aldrich last year, that's what's so frustrating.

It funny your quote about 60 percent, why don't you take a look at the stats in the Big12 there is only 2 that shoot over 60 and they are both pros, and where is Diaz, ohh that's right he is 9th in percentage in the league. And second that stat isn't alarming Walker gets rebounds, why is that bad? He gets rebounds and scores, but since Diaz doesn't get them its bad? Sometimes others get rebounds to.

  10. Yep 7 for 8 and 14 points, we better not see that reoccur, that would be just terrible. God he better shoot better then that, because if he doesn't then he is just not good. Disagree. We have enough people on this team that can shoot. We need Diaz to get rebounds and be physical. The points just come as an extra. If you are the tallest person on the court you should be getting more than 2 rebounds a game. Yeah he had 14 but how many of those points were from posting up and playing stronger than the other guy??? Maybe 2 points out of the 14. The rest were because of nice angle passes set up by someone else.

Who freaking cares if he posted up and scored or didn't, he scored, we have not scored significant points for a long time. He did haven't to get his own rebounds because he made the basket. Sure maybe he missed a few rebounds, but he scored 14, you can try to say what you want but I will take 14 points and 2 rebounds from him every game. Comparing him to Morris in that other post is asinine by the way. We need points, other guys get rebounds, we are averaging more offensive and defensive in league play, so who gives a $@ who gets them. Seriously go to a game! Guarantee I have gone to more. Watching someone score 14 for us is a big deal, he shoots 56% I mean seriously shut up. Who cares about the passes and how he scored he scored.

  11. Yep 7 for 8 and 14 points, we better not see that reoccur, that would be just terrible. God he better shoot better then that, because if he doesn't then he is just not good. 12. yeah, they really sucked it up on the road in manhattan, winning by what, like 10? they sucked when they couldnt shoot for crap against OSU and still hung 75 points-thats a lights out night for the big red. its classic NU bb so far this year, we saw the one game a year where Doc's style somehow surprises a top flight team early but cant finish against kansas. until this team figures out how to score points in the paint with regularity its .500 or below all over again.

    im angry too.

I never said they suck away from Boulder, I said they are a different team. Other than New Mexico (at Las Vegas, not in the Pit) and K-State, CU has not had a tough road game; they have had a couple tough home games. So with these stats I'm about to show you, you can't say "well duh, that's because they scheduled cream-puffs for home games and traveled to tough venues." At home, Colorado is winning with an average score of 89-67. What are they away from Boulder? They lose by an average of 76-78. And again, these numbers aren't that skewed by easy home games and a few tough road games. If you don't believe me, go look at their schedule. Say what you will about the altitude being a factor or just an excuse, teams do get winded up there and CU definitely takes advantage of that.

You talk about Kstate and OSU. OSU hasn't beaten anybody yet this season, other than Kstate. And speaking of Kstate, they haven't done much yet either. They beat VaTech, Gonzaga, Washington State - none of those is mega-impressive. They were smoked by Duke and Florida, and have lost to UNLV, OSU, and CU. It's impressive that CU has beat KSU and OSU, no doubt. But let's not make it out like they've beaten Ohio State and Syracuse.

As for your statement about Doc's one game that surprises a top flight team - give me a break. First off, that KU team knows how Nebraska plays by now, they weren't caught by surprise. Second, Doc has never had a game where his team went to a place as tough as the Phog and lost to the #3 team in the nation by 3 points. Don't even try to compare that to beating a #20 Kstate team at the Bob, or going up 4 on KU in the middle of the first half only to lose by 15. This game was different than any of those in the past.

The fact that you call this classic NU bball tells me you don't watch NU bball. Classic ball under Doc would be hanging in the game until 8-12 minutes left, then giving up a 19-2 run and eventually losing by 13 or more. That happened all the time the last few years. That has not happened once this year. This is not "classic NU bball," not even close.

Actually this is exactly what happened during the Vandy game if you watched.

  13. What I think is odd is that his dad Casey Martinez, was the one who sent the letter to the media. Like what was mentioned on the radio today, it's hard to take a letter personal and serious when it wasn't even written by the person who supposedly wrote it!

How in the {:content:}amp;#* would you have any idea who wrote it, you have to kidding me with this. His dad sent it, better make some stupid crap up about how didn't write it, get over yourself dude. I fairly sure Taylor wrote it.

And I can reverse this and ask you...how do you know he didn't write it? Funny how that works, isn't it? May I suggest we take a casual stroll to the smack room?

And so could his friend/mom/coach can't anyone just believe stuff, tell them to send me the password. And I will crush your hopes and dreams.

LOL ok internet tough guy, whatever you say.

I was just having fun, now you made it not fun.
